building website with menu without using frames

With Dreamweaver, I use frames to define a left column menu, and clicking on each menu tab would change the html page displayed on the right frame. However, webdesign tools such as kompozer do not support frames. 1 - What is the best way to design a html personal webpage with such menu bars, without using frames ? 2 - If html is not enough, what other scripting languages would you recommend to learn for someone with Java background and have basic knowledge of html and css. 3 - What web-design tools would you recommend to build a personal website ?

A PHP Function that verify code language

Hi, I have a form with 2 textareas; the first one allows user to send HTML Code, the second allows to send CSS Code. I have to verify with a PHP function, if the language is correct. If the language is correct, for security, i have to check that there is not PHP code or SQL Injection or whatever. What do you think ? Is there a way to do that ? Where can I find this kind of function ? Is "HTML Purifier" http://htmlpurifier.org/ a good solution ?

How to make IE and Firefox display hidden elements the same (IE shifts visible element)

jQuery and HTML visual glitches on table cell .toggle

I have table that gets dynamically created. When using jQuery and toggle, everything works. I however get a small visual glitch - it seems the HTML sometimes get selected. How would I disable this on a faulty drag or mouse operation? Is there a difference in the DOM between text in a cell and 'not text' or buffered space in a td? Thanks in advance.

Can we change <input type="file"> style?

I tried to change the HTML form, input type file. Here is my code: HTML, form id = form <input class="upload_file" type="file" id="file" name="file" /> .CSS I tried both: .upload_button{ background: url('../images/upload_btn_bg.png') no-repeat; width: 200px; height: 40px; } #form input[type=file]{ background: url('../images/upload_btn_bg.png') no-repeat; width: 200px; height: 40px; } None of both of those methods works. I did see from some website, like facebook, youtube, google or twitter, they have different style. Wonder how they do it.

Having trouble applying style to SVG using JavaScript upon object creation

Hi, I have a function which creates an SVG text object using JavaScript. As soon as the object is created, I want it to have the style attribute which in CSS would be text-anchor: left. Currently, it doesn't work. I have tried many variations, and I also read that when using styles in JavaScript you must remove any '-' dashes and format the attribute name in camel casing (is this true?). div Height: 0 problem in IE

to clear: both my content i use this: CSS: .clr { clear: both; height: 0; /* i have tried 0.001em to */ line-height: .001em; overflow: hidden; } HTML: <div class="clr"> </div> it works perfectly in every navigator. But in IE 7 & 8 the div still have a height of a few pixels. How can i avoid this?

Resizing to page width for print style sheet

So I've got a page that shows an image with some absolutely positioned text on top of it. I want to write a print style sheet for it so that: the image is resized to fit the width of the page the text is repositioned and resized to maintain relative position and size with the image behind it So I know I can do (1) with just max-width: 100%, but I'm not sure how to accomplish (2). I'm okay with using some javascript if necessary, but I wanted to know if there's a way to do this in pure CSS. If I do need to use javascript, what can I hook to check for the pixel width of the image in the printed page? Just use the calculated width as normal? And yes, this question might be more appropriate for DocType, but I've yet to get any help over there.

How to hide overflow in this example?

Why are IE6 and IE7 not completely showing this div?

I'm having problems in IE6 and 7 with a div that doesn't complete the bottom padding that is attributed to it, so doesn't appear to finish the div down to the white content area like required. Here's the coded homepage with the problem. http://qwibbledesigns.co.uk/preview/Softwear/ The div house's this content: Services : Design, Xhtml, Css, Flash Client : Newsletter Entrepeneur I've tried display it as all sorts, clearing the div, and so on. Div that follows scroll (not position:fixed)

I found it sometime ago and now I can't. I want to find something like the shopping cart at the apple store, it's a div thats not positioned absolute nor fixed, for instance, let's say it's at the center of the screen, and only when you scroll down it follows the scroll only to not disappear, when it reaches the border of the browser header... I'm not sure If i'm being clear. I've searched but all I found is the css position fixed stuff. Can you help me with a link or something? Best Regards

How can I get rid of horizontal padding or indent in html5 search inputs in webkit?

In webkit only, the text in a search input is indented from the left side. Here's a demo. Even after stripping all padding, text-indent, and setting -webkit-appearance to textfield or none, the text is still indented. It looks to be around 10px or so, but the inspector doesn't show any CSS rules (even browser defaults) that seem to apply this style. Any ideas? <input type="search" value="Search"> -webkit-appearance: textfield; border: 1px solid #ccc; padding: 0; margin: 0; text-indent: 0;

Using TweenMax to fade in div with background pattern and z-index not working

I'm trying to do this really simple fade using TweenMax for this div I have. Here's the css for the div .aboutBg { background:url(../images/pattern.jpg); top:0; right:0; left:0; bottom:0, position:fixed; border:10px solid red; z-index:10; } TweenMax.to('.aboutPage', 0.5, {autoAlpha:1}); What's happening is the border would fade in nicely but the patterned bg is not, it just pops up at the end of the tween. If I remove the z-index everything works, but I have to have set the z-index so it's on top of my other content. Also I'm not tweening the z-index, it's set before the tween, so I'm not sure why it's not fading correctly. Anyone has any idea? Thanks.

Is there a way that I can make it start on the same line as the icon? I did try float left on the paragraph but that makes it go before the icon.

<a> with an inner <span> not triggering :active state in IE 8

I want to style the :active state of a button that is represented by an <a> tag. The <a> tag has an inner <span> (beacuse I want to add an icon to this button). I notice the :active state is triggered properly in everything but Internet Explorer 8. In IE 8, it appears that the area around the <span> (the <a>’s padding) triggers the :active state, but when clicking directly on the text within the <span>, the :active state is not triggered. font-smoothing not applied to buttons

I have used this snippet to prevent webkit from changing antialiasing when using CSS transforms: html{ -webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; } This works fine for most cases, however I noticed some weirdness in chrome when playing around with Bootstrap using this HTML: <button class="btn btn-inverse">John Doe</button> <a class="btn btn-inverse">John Doe</a>? This is how it looks in OSX/Chrome: Fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/hY2J7/. In fact, it seems that it is not applied to buttons at all. Is there a safer technique to trigger the same antialiasing in webkit for all elements?

How do I execute a sql statement through a variable (dyname sql) that tries to do an insert into a variable table?

If I do what I wanna do with a TEMPORARY TABLE, it works fine: DECLARE @CTRFR VARCHAR(MAX) SET @CTRFR = 'select blah blah blah' -- <-- very long select statement. this returns a 0 or some greater number. Please note! --> I NEED THIS NUMBER. IF EXISTS ( SELECT * FROM sys.objects WHERE object_id = OBJECT_ID(N'[dbo][#CTRFRResult]') AND type IN ( N'U' ) ) DROP TABLE [dbo].[#CTRFRResult] CREATE TABLE #CTRFRResult ( CTRFRResult VARCHAR(MAX) ) SET @CTRFR = 'insert into #CTRFRResult ' + @CTRFR EXEC(@CTRFR) The above works fine. The problem is that several databases are using the same TEMP table. Therefore I need to use a VARIABLE table (instead of a temporary table). What I have below is not working because it says that the table must be declared. DECLARE @CTRFRResult TABLE ( CTRFRResult VARCHAR(MAX) ) SET @CTRFR = 'insert into @CTRFRResult ' + @CTRFR -- I think the issue is here. EXEC(@CTRFR) Setting @CTRFR to 'insert into...' is not working because I'm assuming the table name is out of scope. How would I go about mimicking the temporary table code using a variable table?

How to remove space under images?

So here's my problem, there's a small white space showing up under the pictures on my tumblr, but the space only shows up under photosets, not under photos. I have on my CSS: #post{padding:10px;} #post img{display:block;} And then on my html: {block:Posts} <div id="post"> {block:Photo}<img src="{PhotoURL-500}"/>{/block:Photo} {block:Photoset}{Photoset-500}{/block:Photoset} </div> {/block:Posts} But the photoset adds a 3px space under the images, turning the padding to 13px for no reason. Can someone help me figure out this?

HTML to automatically hide text depending on scrolled size (like in Gmail)?

Look at your Gmail inbox. You have 3 main columns contains the Sender contains "THE_EMAIL_SUBJECT - THE_EMAIL_BODY" the date the email was sent on I note that when you resize the window, the Gmail web client automatically resizes the displayed text in the second column. It basically just truncates the text so that it always can display the sent on date to the right, and the sender to the left. It is a pretty neat effect, and I would like to have that effect for myself. Does anyone know how to do this in HTML/CSS/JS?
