  • What alternatives do I have if I want a distributed multi-master database?

    I will build a system where I want to reduce single-point-of-failures, and I need a database. Is there any (free) relational database systems that can handle multi-master setups good (i.e where it is easy to add and remove nodes) or is it better to go with a NoSQL-database? As what I have understood, a key-value store will handle this better. What database system do you recommend for a multi-master (cluster) setup?

    Dear All, I need to parallelize a CPU intensive Java application on my multicore desktop but I am not so comfortable with threads programming. I looked at Scala but this would imply learning a new language which is really time consuming. I also looked at Ateji PX Java parallel extensions which seem very easy to use but did not have a chance yet to evaluate it. Would anyone recommend it? Other suggestions welcome.     I am creating a multilingual site that will need to support at minimum five different languages, including Korean and Chinese. The site language is ColdFusion, so Java is the native language. I want to make the site as easy as possible for the next programmer to update, and for third-party translators to use tools that will work easier for them than digging through a SQL database.     Hi! Is there an easy way to get the relative compliment of two sets? Perhaps using LINQ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complement_(set_theory) I have to find the relative compliment of a set A relative to B. Both A and B are of type HashSet but I think the algorithm could be made more generation (IEnumerable or even ISet)? I could use a solution in either vb.net or C#.

  • powershell.exe tab completion - list alternatives?

    I've never really used PowerShell before, and playing with it a bit, it looks like it uses cmd.exe's style of tab completion (fill in the first likely candidate, and then you can use tab to cycle through other alternatives). I'd much prefer the way e.g. bash works, where if there are multiple candidates, it shows a list of them. Is there an easy way to turn this on, by any chance?

    I was hoping it was as easy as referencing my existing libraries to use them with WP7. However, it complains about not able to load them because of .Net CF when I actually use them. Do i need to recompile them to .NET CF or something? I thought the big plus of WP7 was: leveraging your existing codebase...? How can I leverage my existing codebase if I need to strip everything out of it and maintain multiple versions?

    Tagged PDFs allow for the easy reflow and accessibility of PDFs. It seems like this would be a natural use case for using LaTeX, which advocates content over style. But as far as I can tell, there is no way to create a tagged PDF with MikTeX 2.8. Does anybody know of any tips, tricks or techniques to get a tagged PDF through LaTeX without resorting to the commercial version of Adobe Acrobat?
