• OOP Structure for web application

  Ok so I have a website in which users complete tasks to earn points. When they earn enough points, they rise in rank. The site from my understanding is very basic and only executes one query or two queries at most a page. There is a user table, a support ticket table, and an orders table. All of these contain a relational row for username. Our class was familiarized with OOP back in highschool with Java but that was for video games and I could grasp the concept on why you would need a class player and class enemy. However I don't understand it's web application. At least not in my situation. I understand the user class might contain stuff like: getUsername getPoints getEmail setEmail addPoints (does this belong here? OR only things the user can manipulate should be here?) etc.. But I'm at a loss with everything else such as user registration. Can you help give me a wire framework that I could wrap my head around? Pointing me to a good eBook would help greatly

• Value gets changed upon comiting. | CallableStatements

Here is the pset Query with dummy but appropriate data: putCover(1,10,0,80.000,80.000,'F','Cut',0.000,0,15.000,'4x2',1.5,'A',10.000,5.000) As you can see everything is fine just when I write to the DB instead of 10 in the second parameter a 3 is written. I have done the following: Traced the id_color value to the create method, still got replaced by a 3 Hardcoded the value in the DAO create method, still got replaced by a 3 Called the procedure from the MySQL Workbench, it worked fined so I assume something is happening in the create method, any help is really appreciated.

  The top image is the output of: git reflog. The bottom is what GITK in GIT GUI (msysgit) shows me when I look at all branch history. The last few commits do not show on GIT GUI. Why do they not show on GITK (at least as a branch or something)? How do I merge them into master? I gather this happened when I checked out tag 0.42. Why is that not the same as master? (I had tagged the master in its latest state) When I click push, why does the remote repo claim to be up to date.. shouldn't it try to update these commits into whatever branch they are in? The first of the questions is important - I would like to begin to understand what GIT is thinking. It's more oracle than logic at this point. If it makes a difference to see the earlier history, the project is a [pretty powerful] JS color picker that can be viewed here in its entirety.

• Database cluster... without Master/Slave?

  Hi there! I'm wondering if it is possible to have a set of SQLdb servers to which data is written and have them replicate, avoiding conflicting information. I imagine that a Master/Slave structure would be mandatory, I would like to know if a system where servers have no hierarchy could support replication. Currently I'm using MySQL, but I would be happy to move to another database if needed. Any ideas? :)

  When creating a disk image (.cdr or .dmg) from a physical CD or DVD on Mac (using Disk Utility New Image) one can choose between 'CD\DVD Master‘ and 'compressed'. Apart from the obvious fact that a compressed image will be smaller, are there other differences? Will a compressed image for example not expand to an exact copy of the CD or DVD?

• Can a BIND server be a slave to a non-BIND master DNS server?

  If I have a master DNS that is not bind - can bind still slave to it? (ie does it use the DNS protocol or something else?). Kind of related - but do people still do this or do they use some other form of data replication to keep DNS records in sync to the slaves (ie file/database copying)? I would like to have the slaves refreshed as fast as possible so I am thinking normal slaving with is expiry/poll based might not be optimal?

  I had to restore some production databases to a different drive on the same Microsoft SQL Server 2005 machine. That worked fine and the application using the databases is back online. However, i have not restored the system (or default?) databases that SQL Server creates on its own (model, master, etc.). My question is, what is the role of these databases? and how important it is that i restore them?

  I've registered xdebug in php.ini (as per http://xdebug.org/docs/install) but it's not showing up when i run "php -m" or when i get a test page to run "phpinfo()".   I am implementing a MVVM pattern in my WPF application. My application main window is divided into four parts: Main Menu On the Top Outlook Navigation Control on the Left. A List View on the Middle. Another List view on the bottom. The Navigation control shows different setting (configuration) controls in the Tab items. All the four above are user controls which are placed in the main window. And corresponding to each user control there is separate view model which is bounded with a view model in the XAML of each control, however the model class remain the same between all the view model. And a MainWindow has a seperate View Model which is also bounded with a view model in the XAML of each control. Please help me out in framing a design in which each view models of all the controls above will interact with each other. Please let me know if my question is not clear to you!!

  I have a client who has a sort of data warehouse stored in DB2. For a variety of reasons, the data must remain on this platform. The client is considering implementing an open-source CMS (Drupal) which runs in MySQL. The client needs to be able to execute a bunch of pre-defined queries against the DB2 database from the remote application. Drupal appears to interact well with XML data from other systems. It was suggested that we use something like XML-RPC to execute the queries against DB2. I am very familiar with SQL Server and pretty familiar with MySQL, but I have no experience with DB2 and no understanding of its capabilities or limitations. Is there any way that we can use something like XML, XML-RPC, or even http to initiate queries against a DB2 database? Any ideas are appreciated! Thank you!

• Cannot iterate of a collection of Anonymous Types created from a LINQ Query in VB.NET

  Ok everyone, I must be missing something here. Every LINQ example I have seen for VB.NET anonymous types claims I can do something like this: Dim Info As EnumerableRowCollection = pDataSet.Tables(0).AsEnumerable Dim Infos = From a In Info _ Select New With {.Prop1 = a("Prop1"), .Prop2 = a("Prop2"), .Prop3 = a("Prop3") } Now when I go to iterate through the collection(see example below), I get an error that says "Name "x" is not declared. For Each x in Infos ... Next It's like VB.NET doesn't understand that Infos is a collection of anonymous types created by LINQ and wants me to declare "x" as some type. (Wouldn't this defeat the purpose of an anonymous type?) I have added the references to System.Data.Linq and System.Data.DataSetExtensions to my project.   Hi! I have people, companies, employees, events and event kinds. I'm making a report/followup sheet where people, companies and employees are the rows, and the columns are event kinds. Event kinds are simple values describing: "Promised Donation", "Received Donation", "Phoned", "Followed up" and such. Event kinds are ordered: CREATE TABLE event_kinds ( id, name, position); Events hold the actual reference to the event: CREATE TABLE events ( id, person_id, company_id, referrer_id, event_kind_id, created_at); referrer_id is another reference to people. It is the person which sent the information/tip along, and is an optional field, although I sometimes want to filter on an event_kind that has a specific referrer, while I don't for other event kinds. Notice I don't have an employee ID reference. The reference exists, but is implied. I have application code to validate that person_id and company_id really reference an employee record. The other tables are pretty basic: CREATE TABLE people ( id, name); CREATE TABLE companies ( id, name); CREATE TABLE employees ( id, person_id, company_id); I'm trying to achieve the following report: Referrer Phoned Promised Donated Francois Feb 16th Feb 20th Mar 1st Apple (Steve Jobs) Steve Ballmer Mar 3rd IBM Bill Gates Mar 7th The first row is a people record, the 2nd is an employee, and the 3rd is a company. If I asked for referrer Bill Gates for Phoned event kinds, I'd only see the 3rd row, while asking for Steve and Phoned would return no rows. Right now, I do 3 queries, one for companies, one for people and a last one for employees. I want the event kind columns to be ordered, but I do that in application code and show it properly there. There should be an "easier" way to do it. One other filter criteria would be to filter on people/company names: WHERE LOWER(companies.name) LIKE '%apple%'. Note that I'm ordering by the dates of event_kind_9 here, and a secondary sort is by person/company name. To summarize: I want to paginate the result set, find the latest event for each cell, order the result set by the date of the latest event, and by company/person name, filter by referrer in some event kinds, but not others. For reference, I'm using PostgreSQL, from Ruby, ActiveRecord/Rails. The solution is pure SQL though.

  I am using MVVM architecture. I have a usercontrol UC as a View Model is a ModelData class ViewModel (UCViewModel) is binded to a usercontrol. I have three more usercontrols that is inside the usercontrol UC ( discussed above). Let's say uc1, uc2 and uc3. and the visibility of uc1 , uc2 and uc3 inside UC depends on the type selected ( which ever radio button is selected ). Since UC is binded to UCViewModel and I have to do all the stuff related to uc1 , uc2 and uc3 inside UCViewModel. Can I have seperate VM to uc1 , uc2 and uc3.. if Yes how can i do that ? Please Help!!

• Legacy URL rewriting with query string parameters

  I've looked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/817325/asp-net-mvc-routing-legacy-urls-passing-querystring-ids-to-controller-actions and several other similar posts for legacy URL routing, but I can't get past the error "The RouteData must contain an item named 'controller' with a non-empty string value." Looking this up on line didn't give me any hints to solve my problem. I've implemented the Legacy routing class described in the link above, and this is what I've defined in the routing table: routes.Add( "Legacy", new LegacyRoute("fooref.aspx", "FooRef", new LegacyRouteHandler()) ); routes.MapRoute( "FooRef", "{controller}/{action}", new { controller = "Home", action = "Index", foo_id = UrlParameter.Optional, bar_id = UrlParameter.Optional } ); When I use Phil Haack's route debugger, it indicates that fooref.aspx has a match, but when I turn the route debugger off, I get the error above. If I reverse the statement order, I get "Resource not found" for /ctprefer.aspx, which makes sense -- so it appears to be finding that as a valid route when put in the other order. Where do I need to declare this missing controller reference? Have routing requirements changed for ASP.NET MVC 2 RTM?

  Hello, I'm trying to do the below sql statement in GORM select * from table1 where table1.x not in (select x from table 2 where y='something'); so, I have two tables, and needs to find the entries from table 1 which are not in table 2. In Grails def xx= table2.findByY('something') def c = table1.createCriteria() def result= c.list { not ( in('x', xx) ) } the syntax is wrong, and I'm not sure how to simulate not in sql logic. As a learning point, if someone can also tell me why minus (-) operator in grails/groovy doesn't work with list. I tried getting x and y seperately, and doing x.minus(y), but it doesn't change the list. I saw an explanation at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1754576/groovy-on-grails-list-not-working , but I would expect the list defined are local. thank you so much.

• Delphi 2010 Datasnap - Design Query

  I am investigating moving a thick client SQL based Delphi application to Multi Tier thin clients, and have been looking at using Datasnap in Delphi 2010. I have worked through the White Paper written by Bob Swart and extended this further. My main question really is that I want to make the server side efficient in terms of connections and SQL Queries due to multiple queries being run and remaining open at the same time to interrogate data, can anyone point me in a direction for guidance on how to design a real world Datasnap Server application, as the demo's don't go into enough detail.
