    I've got problem with binding data type boolean to checkbox in MVC 2 data annotations Here's my code sample: label> Is Hot </label> <%=Html.CheckBoxFor(model => model.isHot, new {@class="input" })%> It always raise this error message below at (model=model.isHot). Cannot convert lambda expression to delegate type 'System.Func<Framework.Models.customer,bool>' because some of the return types in the block are not implicitly convertible to the delegate return type Cannot implicitly convert type 'bool?' to 'bool'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?) Please suggest me how can I solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

  • .NET make a copy of an embedded file resource to the local drive

    Hi, i'm new to the realm to working with Files in .NET I'm creating a WPF application in VB.NET with the 3.5 Framework. (If you provide an example in C#, that's perfectly fine.) In my project I have a Template for an MS Access database. My desired behavior is that when the users clicks File--New, they can create a new copy of this template, give it a filename, and save it to their local directory. The database already has the tables and some starting data needed to interface with my application (a user-friendly data editor) I'm thinking the approach is to include this "template.accdb" file as a resource in the project, and write it to a file somehow at runtime? Any guidance will be very, very appreciated. Thanks!

  • Which is the "best" data access framework/approach for C# and .NET?

    (EDIT: I made it a community wiki as it is more suited to a collaborative format.) There are a plethora of ways to access SQL Server and other databases from .NET. All have their pros and cons and it will never be a simple question of which is "best" - the answer will always be "it depends". However, I am looking for a comparison at a high level of the different approaches and frameworks in the context of different levels of systems. For example, I would imagine that for a quick-and-dirty Web 2.0 application the answer would be very different from an in-house Enterprise-level CRUD application. I am aware that there are numerous questions on Stack Overflow dealing with subsets of this question, but I think it would be useful to try to build a summary comparison. I will endeavour to update the question with corrections and clarifications as we go. So far, this is my understanding at a high level - but I am sure it is wrong... I am primarily focusing on the Microsoft approaches to keep this focused. ADO.NET Entity Framework Database agnostic Good because it allows swapping backends in and out Bad because it can hit performance and database vendors are not too happy about it Seems to be MS's preferred route for the future Complicated to learn (though, see 267357) It is accessed through LINQ to Entities so provides ORM, thus allowing abstraction in your code LINQ to SQL Uncertain future (see Is LINQ to SQL truly dead?) Easy to learn (?) Only works with MS SQL Server See also Pros and cons of LINQ "Standard" ADO.NET No ORM No abstraction so you are back to "roll your own" and play with dynamically generated SQL Direct access, allows potentially better performance This ties in to the age-old debate of whether to focus on objects or relational data, to which the answer of course is "it depends on where the bulk of the work is" and since that is an unanswerable question hopefully we don't have to go in to that too much. IMHO, if your application is primarily manipulating large amounts of data, it does not make sense to abstract it too much into objects in the front-end code, you are better off using stored procedures and dynamic SQL to do as much of the work as possible on the back-end. Whereas, if you primarily have user interaction which causes database interaction at the level of tens or hundreds of rows then ORM makes complete sense. So, I guess my argument for good old-fashioned ADO.NET would be in the case where you manipulate and modify large datasets, in which case you will benefit from the direct access to the backend. Another case, of course, is where you have to access a legacy database that is already guarded by stored procedures. ASP.NET Data Source Controls Are these something altogether different or just a layer over standard ADO.NET? - Would you really use these if you had a DAL or if you implemented LINQ or Entities? A quick wikipedia search shows: RPC: Remote procedure call (RPC) is an Inter-process communication technology that allows a computer program to cause a subroutine or procedure to execute in another address space (commonly on another computer on a shared network) without the programmer explicitly coding the details for this remote interaction. Web Service: Web services are typically application programming interfaces (API) or web APIs that are accessed via Hypertext Transfer Protocol and executed on a remote system hosting the requested services. Web services tend to fall into one of two camps: Big Web Services[1] and RESTful Web Services. I am not quite clear what the real difference between the two things. It seems that one thing could belongs to RPC and is kind of web service at the same time. Is Web Service a higher level representation of RPC?

  • Strange behaviour on postback in ASP.NET

    I'm working on a website with a login form. To log in, a postback is used to an OnClick handler in the codebehind. Somehow, the value returned from the Text-property of the username and password textboxes is ten times the value I entered, separated by commas. I checked my entire code for double ID's (which seems to be the most common problem causing this behaviour), but I found each ID defined only once. The user should be able to add a new line, remove a line, then submit. One caveat is the PartNumber needs to be a dropdown list of valid parts. What can I do to accomplish what I'm looking for?

    PLEASE READ THE FULL QUESTION BEFORE POST YOUR ANSWER Hello guys! I'm currently developing a "Extremelly customized Installer Application" in C# for installing a old classic ASP application. It'll be used during the 2.0 version is developed (ASP.NET MVC with C#). As its so different from the efault install packages, I've made it as normal windows application, not as setup application (a setup application don't let us customize so much as I need). And here is the problem: As its a windows application, I must "Release" it and send the compiled .EXE with the .DLLs, I must not "Publish" because if i do so, the published .EXE will "install the installer" and not my application. I need a way to verify and install the .NET Framework 3.5 like a bootstrap package prerequisite used in publishing option, but remember that I'm not publishing, I'm doing a "Release" build.     Update: There was actually a hidden panel with validator in the user control that was causing page not to be valid on the first postback. Consider this issue resolved. This is first time I am using this control and it is behaving rather strange. I have to click on the "Next" button twice for it to move to the next step. I tried explicitly setting active index, using MoveTo etc. Nothing works. Here is the markup for the control.   • Why input elements don't render the value passed in ASP.Net MVC?

    This post asks this question but doesn't really give an answer, so I thought I would ask the question differently. I have a page that renders a hidden value from the model: <%=Html.Hidden("myName", model.myValue) %> Since I am passing a value in the value parameter, you would think it would output that value, but it doesn't. The code for rendering input fields has the following: string attemptedValue = (string)htmlHelper.GetModelStateValue(name, typeof(string)); tagBuilder.MergeAttribute("value", attemptedValue ?? ((useViewData) ? htmlHelper.EvalString(name) : valueParameter), isExplicitValue); Basically, if the ModelState (which contains posted values) contains a value for the "name" passed, it will use that value instead of your passed value to the helper method. In my case, I updated the model and my updated value wasn't outputted. If I pass a value to a method, I expect that value to be rendered. Am I missing something in this design or is it just wrong?
