• Persist an object that is not marked as serializable

  Hi, I need to persist an object that is not marked with the serializable attribute. The object is from a 3rd party library which I cannot change. I need to store it in a persist place, like for example the file system, so the optimal solution would be to serialize the object to a file, but since it isn't marked as serializable, that is not a straight forward solution. It's a pretty complex object, which also holds a collection of other objects. Do you guys have any input on how to solve this? The code will never run in a production environment, so I'm ok with almost any solution and performance.

  Hello, I'm writing a standalone application and I thought using Entity Framework to store my data. At the moment the application is small so I can use a local database file to get started. The thing is that the local database file doesn't have the ability to auto generate integer primary keys as SQL Server does.   I need write a script in blender that creates some birds which fly around some obstacles. The problem is that I need to import a pretty large Collada model (a building) which consists of multiple objects. The import works fine, but the the building is not seen as 1 object. I need to resize and move this building, but I can only get the last object in the building (which is a camera)... Does anyone know how to merge this building in 1 object, group, variable... so I can resize and move it correctly? • Building big, immutable objects without using constructors having long parameter lists

  Hi StackOverflow! I have some big (more than 3 fields) Objects which can and should be immutable. Every time I run into that case i tend to create constructor abominations with long parameter lists. It doesn't feel right, is hard to use and readability suffers. It is even worse if the fields are some sort of collection type like lists. A simple addSibling(S s) would ease the object creation so much but renders the object mutable. What do you guys use in such cases? I'm on Scala and Java, but i think the problem is language agnostic as long as the language is object oriented. Solutions I can think of: "Constructor abominations with long parameter lists" The Builder Pattern Thanks for your input!

  DoCmd.OpenForm "Database Search", acFormDS, , srcLastName & "AND " & srcFirstName This is only a small sample of the where clause - there are many more terms. First, there is a set of If, Then type tings up top that set the variable srcLastName and srcFirstName to some value. These are not the problem and work just fine. The trouble is getting them to return all values (for instance if you only want to search by one, on neither(return full database list)) Thus far I have settled for (in the if then section): srcLastName = "[Lastname] =" & Chr(34) & cboLastName & Chr(34) - to search for something and srcLastName = "[Lastname] <" & Chr(34) & "Nuthin" & Chr(34) - to return everything (not equal to an absurd and mispelled database term.) The trouble is that data that is null is also not returned. If I have a null firstname, it will not show up in any search period. is there a term I can set [lastname] and [firstname] equal to that will return EVERYTHING (null, open, data, numbers, wierd stuff and otherwise) in a search an SQL form of "give me everything shes got scotty" if you will. the real issue here comes from the data entry - if I could just know that the people would enter everything 100% of the time, this code would work. but forget to enter the persons age or whatever, and it wont return that entry. So far, the only other solution I have come up with is to put a counter in each if then statement. The count will go up by one for each thing that is being searched by. Then if the count is = 1, then I can search by something like just DoCmd.OpenForm "Database Search", acFormDS, , srcLastName or DoCmd.OpenForm "Database Search", acFormDS, , srcFirstName then revert back to the DoCmd.OpenForm "Database Search", acFormDS, , srcLastName & "AND " & srcFirstName when the count is 2 or more truoble here is that it only works for one (unless I so wanted to create a custon list of 2 combined, 3 combined, 4 combined, but that is not happening)

• ColdFusion 8: Database Connection Reset Error

  I have been getting these intermittent ColdFusion Database connection reset errors and was wondering if anyone had experience with this and had a particular solution that worked? Here is the error: Error Executing Database Query.[Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]A problem occurred when attempting to contact the server (Server returned: Connection reset). Please ensure that the server parameters passed to the driver are correct and that the server is running. Also ensure that the maximum number of connections have not been exceeded for this server. This doesn't happen with any particular query, the code breaks in different queries every time, returning a SQLState error 08s01. These query's logic are fine, no logic errors etc. I checked the network logs and there were no database server connection refusals at the time of the error. Once the first error occurs, it keeps happening for no more than a minute or so at random times of the day, every few days. I've googled this thing and so far anyone that has had this issue was only on CF6 or 7, which the fixes coldFusion put out are only for CF6 or 7. Server configuration wise: The ColdFusion server is version 8 The database server is SQL Server 2005 Standard The database connections allowed setting is set to unlimited on both SQL Server and ColdFusion Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

  I've got a listview on a control. Each row comprises a checkbox and another listview. The outer listview is bound to a property on the control (via a method call, can't set a property as a SelectMethod on an ObjectDataSource it would appear) which is lazy loaded suchly: Public ReadOnly Property ProductLineChargeDetails() As List(Of WebServiceProductLineChargeDetail) Get If ViewState("WSProductLineChargeDetails") Is Nothing Then ViewState("WSProductLineChargeDetails") = GetWebServiceProductLineChargeDetails() End If Return DirectCast(ViewState("WSProductLineChargeDetails"), Global.System.Collections.Generic.List(Of Global.MI.Open.WebServiceProductLineChargeDetail)) End Get End Property The shape of the object referenced by the data source is something like this: (psuedocode) Product { bool Licenced; List<Charge> charges; } Charge { int property1; string property2; bool property3 . . . } The reason for the use of viewstate is this: When an one of the checkboxes on one of the outer list view rows is checked or unchecked I want to modify the object that the ODS represents (for example I'll add a couple of Charge objects to the relevant Product object) and then rebind. The problem I'm getting is that after every postback (specifically after checking or unchecking one of the rows' checkbox) my viewstate is empty. Thiss means that any changes I make to my viewstate'd object is lost. Now, I've worked out (after much googling and reading, amongst many others, Scott Mitchel's excellent bit on ViewState) that during initial databinding IsTrackingViewState is set to false. That means, I think, that assigning the return from GetWebServiceProductLineChargeDetails() to the ViewState item in my Property Get during the initial databind won't work. Mind you, even when the IsTrackingViewState is true and I call the Property Get, come the next postback, the viewstate is empty. So do you chaps have any ideas on how I keep the object referenced by the ObjectDataSource in ViewState between postbacks and update it and get those changes to stay in ViewState? This has been going on for a couple of days now and I'm getting fed up! Cheers in advance Steve

  I'm working on an iPhone project where I would like to retrieve an object from an NSMutableArray, remove the object from the array and then use it later. The code looks something like this: NSMutableArray * array; // fill the array NSObject * obj = [array lastObject]; [array removeLastObject]; // do something with obj (in the same function) array is the only entity with a retain on the object that is being accessed. Is this safe to do? I would assume that this would only work if lastObject autoreleased the object which is something that I can't figure out if it does.

  For the ExcelPackage constructor you need a FileInfo object. I rather use some kind of stream object(f.i. MemoryStream), because I don't need to save the file to the server itself, but expose it as a FileStream anyway to the user. I don't want to make files which I have to delete lateron from servers which are only there for generating purposes and never used again. Apart from that, otherwise I need also the necessary rights for the application/user on the directory/file on the server. So my question is then: How can I convert a stream object to a FileInfo object.

  I'm having an issue with the Flex XML object type mangling multi-byte characters (such as Japanese or Chinese characters). The basic setup is this. I'm getting an XML-formatted string from the server, and in that string there can be multi-byte characters. A lot of the time, these characters are in attributes, for example: <example id="foo" name="[some multi-byte characters]"/> Now, when I examine the raw string, the multi-byte characters display just fine. However, as soon as I convert the string to an XML object using the top-level XML() function, all the multi-byte characters become mangled. I've tried setting the XML's encoding by including an <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> element in the XML-formatted string, but this doesn't seem to have any effect on the resulting XML object. Is there a way to get the XML object to respect the encoding of the XML-formatted string and prevent the multi-byte characters from being mangled?

This file happens to be in: [project name]/Scheme Objects/Schemas/dbo/Tables/Keys But for sure there are others elsewhere. how to automatically remove such obsolete files when synchronizing? thnx

  I am performance integration testing where I fire up the ASPX pages using WatiN and fill the fields and insert into the database. There are couple of problems that I am facing. 1) Should I use a completely separate database for integration testing? I already gave db_test and db_dev. db_test is for unit testing and is cleared after each test. db_dev is for developers. 2) When I run WatiN test which are contained in a separate assembly (not separate from unit test assembly which should be better since WatiN test take so much time to run). So WatiN test fire up the WebApps project and uses their web.config which is pointing to the dev database. Is there anyway I can tell WatiN to use a separate web.config which contains a different database name?

  Does anyone know of an example of how to dynamically define and build ADO MD (ActiveX Data Objects Multidimensional) catalogs and cube definitions with a set of data other than a database? Background: we have a huge amount of data in our application that we export to a database and then query using the usual SQL joins, groups, sums etc to produce reports. The data in the application is originally in objects and arrays. The problem is the amount of data is so large the export can take 2 hours. So I am trying to figure out a good way of querying the objects in memory, either by a custom OLAP algorithm or library, or ADO MD. But I haven't been able to find an example of using ADO MD without a database behind it. We are using Delphi 2010 so would use ADO ActiveX but I imagine the ADO.NET MD is similar. I realize that if the application data was already stored in a database the problem would solve itself. Also if Delphi had LINQ capability I could query the objects and arrays that way.

• Saving twice don't update my object in JDO

  Hello I have an object persisted in the GAE datastore using JDO. The object looks like this: public class MyObject implements Serializable, StoreCallback { @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) @Extension(vendorName="datanucleus", key="gae.encoded-pk", value="true") private String id; @Persistent private String firstId; ... } As usually when the object is stored for the first time a new id value is generated for the identifier. I need that if I don't provide a value for firstId it sets the same value as the id. I don't want to solve it with a special getter which checks for null value in firstId and then return the id value because I want to make queries relating on firstId. I can do it in this way by saving the object twice (Probably there's a better way to do this, but I'll do it in this way until I find a better one). But it is not working. when I debug it I can see that result.firstId is set with the id value and it seems to be persisted, but when I go into the datastore I see that firstId is null (as it was saved the first time). This save method is in my DAO and it is called in another save method in the service annotated with @Transactional.   I'm passing an object to a WCF service and wasn't getting anything back. I checked the variable as it gets passed to the method that actually does the work and noticed that none of the values are set on the object at that point. Here's the object: [DataContract] public class Section { [DataMember] public long SectionID { get; set; } [DataMember] public string Title { get; set; } [DataMember] public string Text { get; set; } [DataMember] public int Order { get; set; } } Here's the service code for the method: [OperationContract] public List<Section> LoadAllSections(Section s) { return SectionRepository.Instance().LoadAll(s); } The code that actually calls this method is this and is located in a Silverlight XAML file: SectionServiceClient proxy = new SectionServiceClient(); proxy.LoadAllSectionsCompleted += new EventHandler<LoadAllSectionsCompletedEventArgs>(proxy_LoadAllSectionsCompleted); Section s = new Section(); s.SectionID = 4; proxy.LoadAllSectionsAsync(s); When the code finally gets into the method LoadAllSections(Section s), the parameter's SectionID is not set. I stepped through the code and when it goes into the generated code that returns an IAsyncResult object, the object's properties are set. But when it actually calls the method, LoadAllSections, the parameter received is completely blank. Is there something I have to set to make the proeprty stick between method calls?

• Integrating Pentaho/Talend/etc. with an OR Mapper

  We have an application (Java) with an own OR mapper. Within this system we have what can be compared to Hibernate's interceptors (we call it triggers): Do specific actions just before saving data in the database, after it's deleted and so on. The underlying database is MySQL. Now we would like to use tools such as Pentaho Data Integration or Talend to convert data to put it into our system. It's no problem to do that directly on the SQL level, but by doing so we loose the built-in power of our triggers. Is there a way to somehow integrate any of the Data Integration solutions into our existing application? It would be great if there was a way to write into instances of our classes instead of writing into the database directly. Any hints welcome :-)
