  • Clarification on Hyper-V licensing, features, and version

    As I understand it, you can do: Windows 2008 + Hyper-V role Windows Hyper-V Server (which is free I believe) Windows 2008 Core + Hyper-V Role I'm assuming that Core + Hyper-V and Hyper-V Server have the smallest footprint, and therefore better performing, less patching, etc. What other trade-offs/compromises would there be compared to the full Windows + Hyper-V role? However, I've read somewhere that Enterprise comes with four Enterprise 2008 (4) guest VM licenses (I think Standard gives you two (2)). Can someone clarify these statements?

  • What is a good program for storing "chunks" of commonly used source code

    I've looked at CodeLocker (poorly styled and relatively unflexible, but free) and Source Code Library (Overzone software - very nicely styled, looks flexible, but very expensive - $80). Ideally, I'm looking for a relatively simple, inexpensive program (not an online website) that I can save text data (source code) with a title and keywords, maybe even a description. It would also have some type of search functionality.

  • Disk IO causing high load on Xen/CentOS guest

    I'm having serious issues with a xen based server, this is on the guest partition. It's a paravirtualized CentOS 5.5. The following numbers are taken from top while copying a large file over the network. If i copy the file another time the speed decreases in relation to load average. So the second time it's half the speed of the first time. It needs some time to cool off after this. Can i setup SMTP server on my home PC (windows XP) for sending these mails. Is there any "open source"/Free newsletter management application (build on ASP.NET, so that i can customize it if needed) which track bounce emails and other analytics. Any issue which i have to take care.

  • TempDB is Full Issue for SQL Server 2000

    Even though the log file shows that there is over 1 GB of free space, we start receiving an error message every 3 or 4 days saying that the TempDB file is full. I know cursors impact the TempDB file, but is there anything else I should be looking at to see why this keeps happening? I've tried running SQL Profiler, but when running it, it slowed down the DB so much that the users were experiencing timeouts. What specific items should I check for in SQL Profiler?

  • What program will monitor the chords I'm playing through my MIDI keyboard live?

    Leaving Cubase 5 out of the picture, when I use Reason 4.0 to compose something, I need a program running that will monitor the chords I'm pressing WHILE I'm pressing them. See, I'm a new keyboardist, and a thing like this will improve my accuracy by 100%. At one point, I'll stop needing such programs even, but for now, I'd REALLY like to have something of that sort.
