• How do I keep a table in Sync across 4 db's to be used in SQL Replication Filtering?

  I have a Win Form, Data Entry, application that uses 4 seperate Data Bases. This is an occasionally connected app that uses Merge Replication (SQL 2005) to stay in Sync. This is working just fine. The next hurdle I am trying to tackle is adding Filters to my Publications. Right now we are replicating 70mbs, compressed, to each of our 150 subscribers when, truthfully, they only need a tiny fraction of that. Using Filters I am able to accomplish this(see code below) but I had to make a mapping table in order to do so. This mapping table consists of 3 columns. A PrimaryID(Guid), WorkerName(varchar), and ClientID(int). The problem is I need this table present in all FOUR Databases in order to use it for the filter since, to my knowledge, views or cross-db query's are not allowed in a Filter Statement. What are my options? Seems like I would set it up to be maintained in 1 Database and then use Triggers to keep it updated in the other 3 Databases. In order to be a part of the Filter I have to include that table in the Replication Set so how do I flag it appropriately. Is there a better way, altogether? I didn't make it. I inherited it and was then told to make it a "disconnected app."

• Reusing slot numbers in Linux software RAID arrays

  When a hard disk drive in one of my Linux machines failed, I took the opportunity to migrate from RAID5 to a 6-disk software RAID6 array. At the time of the migration I did not have all 6 drives - more specifically the fourth and fifth (slots 3 and 4) drives were already in use in the originating array, so I created the RAID6 array with a couple of missing devices. I now need to add those drives in those empty slots. Using mdadm --add does result in a proper RAID6 configuration, with one glitch - the new drives are placed in new slots, which results in this /proc/mdstat snippet: ... md0 : active raid6 sde1[7] sdd1[6] sda1[0] sdf1[5] sdc1[2] sdb1[1] 25185536 blocks super 1.0 level 6, 64k chunk, algorithm 2 [6/6] [UUUUUU] ... mdadm -E verifies that the actual slot numbers in the device superblocks are correct, yet the numbers shown in /proc/mdstat are still weird. I would like to fix this glitch, both to satisfy my inner perfectionist and to avoid any potential sources of future confusion in a crisis. Is there a way to specify which slot a new device should occupy in a RAID array? UPDATE: I have verified that the slot number persists in the component device superblock. For the version 1.0 superblocks that I am using that would be the dev_number field as defined in include/linux/raid/md_p.h of the Linux kernel source. I am now considering direct modification of said field to change the slot number - I don't suppose there is some standard way to manipulate the RAID superblock?

• What's the best way to get a stored POP3 password out of Outlook 2007?

  If you have a password for a POP3 account in Outlook 2007 (Windows 7 Home Premium) and you then forget the password, how do you retrieve it? I tried copy-and-paste. No go. I downloaded Mail PassView, but upon installing it, AVG said it was malware, so I removed it. I eventually found the account details by opening up RegEdit, and found it in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\Outlook\ (...) but it was encoded in REG_BINARY. I Googled around and found various Visual Basic routines for decoding it but being a Unix dork I had absolutely no idea what to do with said scripts. By this point, I gave up and managed to get hold of the password by another means (it was written down on a piece of paper in the briefcase of the owner of the account - I know, it makes the inner sysadmin rage). I also attempted to write a simple POP3 server in Python and then get Outlook to log on to it, but that didn't really work out (it was about 4am at that point). For future reference, is there an easy and sensible way of doing this? Is Mail PassView actually evil spyware or was AVG just giving me a false positive? (Any chance of Windows 8 having something like OS X's Keychain?)

• Determining physical location of data on a disc

  Does anybody know of a way to find out where, physically on a CD or DVD a given piece of data would be located? I am trying to watch a DVD at the moment, and am about half-way through, but it keeps dying at a specific spot in the film, presumably because of a scratch. I have a repair kit, but I don’t know where to focus my repair because there are several scuffs and scratches on the disc and I have no way of knowing which one is causing the issue. Obviously, cleaning all of them is inadvisable because not only does it waste the consumable materials in the kit, but not all of them are a problem, and by working them, some may become unreadable. Moreover, just because I am half-way through the movie does not mean that it would be half-way from the hub to the edge for several reasons: Discs have more data towards the outer edge than the inner edge (circles are more mathematically complicated than rectangles) The disc is not completely filled up (and even if it were, the movie itself would be be using it all, there are extras and such) Because in this particular case it is a commercial DVD, it is also dual-layer which further complicates manual determination As such, I am trying to find a program that can let me identify a file (or part thereof), cluster, etc. and show me a picture of where on the CD/DVD it would be located. That way, I can look at the disc and fix any scratches that correspond to that distance from the hub. For example, the image below might indicate where on a disc a couple of files or range of clusters would be located, so by looking for anomalies in those areas (rotating as necessary), the correct one can be identified. I’m sure it can be done since at least one form of copy protection (DPM) uses it and DVD-lab Pro includes a “DVD Topology” feature to do this.

• Windows 7 VM log on lockout

  My Windows 7 XP Mode virtual machine has just locked me out of password log on. Two years of use and it never required I use a password on wake up, I never asked for that. Suddenly yesterday, password required! I located password and used it successfully a couple of times, but now even that is not good enough! Perhaps (unfairly) because I tried to get to the bottom of the new phenomenon and removed the password from the user accounts? Permissions are still set to ok for all users. I have been all the way through the settings I can access with the VM file hibernated, and have deleted the previously saved log on info, which always previously worked automatically as charged. Now when I attempt to log on it asks me for credentials, seems like progress, but when I offer them, and check the "remember my credentials" box, I still get the splash screen "The system could not log you on. [reminder about caps...]" !! Round and round. Back up and restore point versions of the VM toss me back into the same log on loop. There are no other machines on any network, I am the administrator and sole user. It must be specifically about the log on, a speck of dust corruption ... is there a way around this? I tried creating a new VM but the black inner box gets stuck at one point requesting I insert a boot disc. Thanks for input, AKa

  Hello! I’am using Google Map’s GClientGeocoder for reversing map coordinates into string address. Exactly as shown in google’s example here http://code.google.com/apis/ajax/playground/?exp=maps#geocoding_reverse But, I would like to extract LocalityName (place.AddressDetails.Country.AdministrativeArea.Locality.LocalityName) from place.address. The straight way will be join all AddressDetails elements, excluding LocalityName. However order of the structure elements in final string representation is depends from geographical location. For example: Order for Australia city: ThoroughfareName + “, ” + LocalityName + “ ” + AdministrativeAreaName + “ ” + PostalCodeNumber + “, ” + CountryName Order for Russian city: CountryName + “, ” + PostalCodeNumber + “, ” + LocalityName + “, ” +ThoroughfareName Moreover PostalCodeNumber was not supplied in AddressDetails for the last example. Please, help!

However, the SQL that NHibernate is generating is inefficient. When I access parent.Children, NHIbernate does a SELECT * FROM ParentChildRelationship WHERE parent_id = 1 and then a SELECT * FROM Child WHERE id = ? for each child in each relationship. I understand why NHibernate is doing this, but I can't figure out how to set up the mapping to make NHibernate query the way I mentioned above.

  Hello, I've setup the Django with mod_wsgi and run into this error. I thought maybe the sys.path was not setup correctly but I tried everything I could think of with no luck. Any suggestions? When a bad condition happens, it should output that the another user is locking this file or if nobody is locking, it should show "you are not locking this file message (file´s name)". The error happens when the file´s name has some latin character like "ç" and tortoise show me this in the output. The problem only occurs on the first two that are running 2008 non R2. Running depends.exe on all three servers gives equal results for the nonR2 servers: My DLL is shown as x86 (compiled as AnyCPU, running in x64 w3wp), all other modules show as x64. Missing IESHIMS.DLL and LINKINFO.DLL - both of these seem to be red herrings according to Google. The third server shows the same, except it does not miss LINKINFO.DLL All servers are running IIS7 (7.5 for the R2 one) under a custom domain account that has been granted the necessary permissions: aspnet_regiis -ga [user] Load user profile is set to false on all three servers. I've tried setting this to true on one of the faulting servers, according to: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1846816/iis7-failed-to-grant-minimum-permission-requests By running processmonitor I can see that it's now using the C:\Users\TEMP\AppData\Local\Temp directory for various temp files - the other ones are not using any such directory. So far I'll let it run in this way to see if this changes anything. I'm in doubt however given that the third server is not exhibiting the problems, yet still has "Load user profile" set to the same value, false. I've also tried running Fuslogvw on all three servers, logging binding failures to disk. All three servers report the same binding errors for VJSharpCodeProvider and CppCodeProvider, but these seem to be normal as well and can be solved by not defining the DEBUG and TRACE constants during build. We're running about 500 websites on each server (identical, load balanced), of which 50 are under moderate load, the problem has arisen both under heavy load as well as under minimal load however. Right now I'm waiting for the errors to happen again so I can hopefully see a pattern and determine whether "Load user profile" alleviates the issue. Any suggestions in the meantime would be very welcome! Also, I don't understand how the lack of "Load user profile" would cause an issue like this? And even further, how it would seemingly work on R2 but not on plain 2008? Thanks!

  Hi, In my ASP.NET MVC app I am rendering out a checkbox using the following code: <%= Html.CheckBoxFor(i=>i.ReceiveRSVPNotifications) %> Now I see that this renders both the checkbox input tag and a hidden input tag. The problem that I am having is when I try retrieve the value from the checkbox using the FormCollection: FormValues["ReceiveRSVPNotifications"] I get the value "true,false".   If this question has been asked then I applogize and I will join in voting to close it (or just delete it), but I could not find it being asked before. We are potentially embarking on making many of our apps using WPF. Most of our apps are normal business apps that will not need too much eye candy. Tasteful ui is nice, but I don't see us doing lost of custom animations and such. So, my question is what 3rd party control sets are the best ones to purchase to save you time in development of apps like this? (These should work with both Visual Studio 2008 and 2010.)

When an SSL request is made with my employer's iPhone, this error message is displayed: Accept Website Certificate The certificate for this website is invalid. Tap Accept to connect to this website anyway. I've pulled up the same pages in other browsers, including Safari, and they do not show any issues with the certs.   I have a table that needs to be given a new primary key, as my predecesor used a varchar(8) row as the primary key, and we are having problems with it now. I know how to add the primary key, but am not sure of the correct way to add this new primary key to other tables that have the foreign key. Here is what I have: users table: old_user_id varchar(8) ... ... new_user_id int(11) orders table: order_id int(11) ... ... old_user_fk varchar(8) new_user_fk int(11) I need to get the same results whether I join the tables on users.old_user_id=orders.old_user_fk or users.new_user_id=orders.new_user_fk. Any help is appreciated.

  I am trying to learn NHibernate, and am having difficulty translating a SQL query into one using the criteria API. The data model has tables: Part (Id, Name, ...), Order (Id, PartId, Qty), Shipment (Id, PartId, Qty) For all the parts I want to find the total quantity ordered and the total quantity shipped. In SQL I have: select shipment.part_id, sum(shipment.quantity), sum(order.quantity) from shipment cross join order on order.part_id = shipment.part_id group by shipment.part_id Alternatively: select id, (select sum(quantity) from shipment where part_id = part.id), (select sum(quantity) from order where part_id = part.id) from part But the latter query takes over twice as long to execute. Any suggestions on how to create these queries in (fluent) NHibernate? I have all the tables mapped and loading/saving/etc the entities works fine.

  Hello I compiled & installed gcc4.4 using macports. When I try to compile using - g++ -g -Wall -ansi -pthread -std=c++0x main.cpp...: #include ... std::thread t(handle); t.join(); .... The compiler returns: cserver.cpp: In member function 'int CServer::run()': cserver.cpp:48: error: 'thread' is not a member of 'std' cserver.cpp:48: error: expected ';' before 't' cserver.cpp:49: error: 't' was not declared in this scope But std::cout <<... compiles fine.. (rsProcessingAborted) Cannot read the next data row for the data set DS_GRID_DATA. (rsErrorReadingNextDataRow) Conversion failed when converting the nvarchar value '1,2,3,4' to data type int. Basically I have defined Parameters!RP_cll_typ_l1 as multivalued into my subreport as per ssrs multivalued parameter passing method. The value is going on sub report as '1,2,3,4' (not understandable by data set) It should be like as '1’,’2’,’3’,’4' or 1,2,3,4 How can I resolve this please help if any have solution?
