• Auto-detect proxy settings on network

  I am having problems trying to run web browser software on the local network through the proxy. When running off the profile drive which is on a network share, the system is unable to auto-detect proxy settings. When running off the local C drive, the browsers are able to correctly autodetect the settings. The error from the browser is about it being unable to fetch the proxy configuration file. Is this some form of authentication preventing it retreiving the settings when running of the network location? PS. Would this be better off on superuser?

• Sophos Enterprise Console 4.5, Mac Client 7 Not Auto-Populating SEC Info

  I have Sophos Endpoint Security and Control, which includes Sophos Enterprise Console (SEC). I'm currently running version 4.5 of SEC, which is an older version. I subscribe to Mac updates, and SEC generates a binary Mac installer for me to use on Mac endpoints (Version 7 for Mac, also an older version). However, when I run the installer on Mac endpoints, it installs fine but then never auto-fills out the location of the update server, which is on a network share, and the account credentials used to access it, which I do not know and were generated by Sophos automatically. Previously, I had been able to use the SEC-generated installer to install and run Sophos on a Mac seamlessly; the update location information and account credentials were automatically filled during login, I ran the installer and it was perfectly set up. Now, however, Sophos installs on a Mac but never updates because it doesn't have the update location OR credentials. Has anyone else run across this problem or know why it is happening? • Two-state script monitor not auto-resolving in SCOM

  This script runs, and if it returns 'erro' an alert is generated in SCOM. The alert is set to resolve when the monitor returns to healthy state. I have tested the script with cscript and it returns the correct values in each state. • Remove auto-complete field entries in Google Chrome

  Is there a way to stop the gmail address field (on the login page) from displaying all the gmail addresses that you have ever typed in it? When logging in with Google Chrome or trying to set up a new account, anything you type which starts with the same letter as the one that you are trying to use currently will show up in the auto-complete field, I don't want that. I understand that this is a convenient feature in some cases, but the thing is--I know this shouldn't've happened, but it has actually happened more than once--I sometimes mistyped my password in the Gmail address field right after the address, mistakingly assuming that the prompt had already been moved to the password field, and then hit "Enter" without looking first. The next time I tried to enter my Gmail address, it popped up the address followed by my password as one of the entries on the list of email addresses that shows up, and I couldn't get rid of the entry. Is there a way to remove these?

• Auto-responder rule in Outlook 2010 produces double signature (but only to certain emails)

  I have set up an auto-responder in Outlook 2010 using a custom template, as a staff member will be on vacation for 6 weeks. It works perfectly, apart from the fact certain people receive two signatures at the bottom of the message instead of one. When reviewing the "sent" folder, there is no sign of double signatures. In the custom template, there is only 1 copy of the signature. Signatures are set to be applied automatically to new messages or replies- however, if I remove the signature from the template, then it seems no one receives a response with the signature. People sending from Hotmail accounts do not receive a duplicate signature. Gmail users do see a duplicate signature. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

• How to use auto-discovery with iDRAC Enterprise?

  All I want to do is: have "auto discovery" enabled on my iDRAC enterprise at the factory rack the server, cable iDRAC to dhcp-enabled management network have the iDRAC DHCP, find the "Provisioning Server", and get updated with login credentials (for us to use with racadm, idrac webui, etc.) I don't need to do any configuring of the system, install OS, or anything else. I just want idrac to dhcp out of the box, and end up with an account that can be used to login. All the docs I can find on Dell's site refer to a "Provisioning Server", but I honestly can't tell if they have some reference product, or if they only have software that "integrates" with other vendor's existing management systems. I'd be happy to set up whatever is needed, I just can't find something that explicitly describes the process (only references to the fact that it is supported).

• 8021x wireless clients auto connect prior to user login

  I am using a 2008 r2 dc that also performs Radius (NPS), I also have a 2008 r2 certificate authority which is giving out certificates. The computers are getting the certificate and when a user logs into the device (that has previously logged in) gets put on the correct VLAN (according to there user access). However I cant get the computers to join the wireless network prior to logging in, so that they can log in with their domain accounts and authenticate through the wireless. The basic setup is Computer gets group policy which tells it to get a certificate the computer then has a seperate vlan to join just as a computer account however the wireless computer wont connect through that vlan. (this vlan allows login information only then once the users credentials are verified it puts them onto another VLAN). So I am trying to work out why the notebook wont auto connect to the wireless network as a computer. Thanks

• Rsync backup - detect new directory and backup only from that directory

  New cpanel daily backup is creating separate directories for daily backup. This creates problem when I try to user rsync to do an offsite backup since I would like to rsync only latest data. E.g. On backup server I have directory "backup" and on server, from which we are pulling backups I get directories 2013-11-07, 2013-11-08 etc in backup directory. If I backup /backup directory on the server it will use allot more space so I would like to backup only latest directory in backup directory, eg 2013-11-08. Is there a way to detect latest directory in backup directory and pass that directory name to rsync for backup ?

• CPU Temperature required for auto-shutdown.

  At what temperature do most motherboards/cpus power down to prevent damage? And what determines this? Is it the bios, the motherboard, the cpu itself? I have a cpu that stays on in the bios until about 105 C and then shuts down. I am not sure if this is correct? Maybe the sensors are wrong. I think 105 is a bit high. I guess 80-90 would be more reasonable for an auto shutdown.

And some of the capacitors in the motherboard are already bulging. It detected the hdd yesterday when were trying to fix it and install xp. But today it cannot boot and said: Boot failure. What can you suggest that I would do to revive this old machine. What would be the problem, is it the hdd, the ide cable or the motherboard.

  My ISP's SSH server (Debian 2.0) logs me out after 35 minutes of inactivity, when connected with PuTTY (Windows XP). This is a big problem when I utilize the server for port-forwarding. The final messages displayed in the terminal: This terminal has been idle 30 minutes. If it remains idle for 5 more minutes it will be logged out by the system. Logged out by the system. PuTTY options that do not help: Sending of null packets to keep session active. Seconds between keepalives (0 to turn off): 30 [x] Enable TCP keepalives (SO_KEEPALIVE option) Any idea how to avoid the auto-log-out? Should I try another SSH client?

  Monit is configured to watch MySQL on localhost at port 3306. check process mysqld with pidfile /var/lib/mysql/li175-241.pid start program = "/etc/init.d/mysql start" stop program = "/etc/init.d/mysql stop" if failed port 3306 protocol mysql then restart if 5 restarts within 5 cycles then timeout My application, which is configured to connect to MySQL via localhost:3306, is running just fine and can access the database. I can even use MySQL Query Browser to connect to the database remotely via port 3306. The port is totally open and possible to connect to. Therefore, I'm pretty darn certain that it's running. However, running monit -v reveals that Monit cannot detect MySQL on that port. 'mysqld' failed, cannot open a connection to INET[localhost:3306] via TCP This happens consistently, until Monit decides not to track MySQL anymore, as configured. How can I begin to troubleshoot this issue?

  In win7, my computer can automatically get a IPV6 global address and use ipv6 network, but in ubuntu natty, I can't find out how to let stateless configuration work. My network is a university campus network,so I don't need tunnels. I think if one thingg can silently and successfully complished in windows it shouldn't be impossible in linux. I did can manually edit /etc/network/interfaces and use a static ipv6 address, and I can use ipv6 this way, but I just want to use auto-configuration. I found this post: How to disable autoconfiguration on IPv6 in Linux? and try sudo sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.all.autoconf=1 sudo sysctl -w net.ipv6.conf.all.accept_ra=1 but no luck

  Increasingly I'm getting tables having to be repaired dwith the message returned of: Auto-increment value: 0 is smaller than max used value: xx This has happened on tables with 200 rows and tables with ~3 million rows, but so far the same few tables have had the problem. I'm running MySQL 5.0.22. The repairs are run by a script which checks every minute for the need to repair MySQL tables. I also have an automated backup of the 6 Gigabyte database running very two hours and the repairs always get trigged around the time of the backup. Any ideas?

• Internet Explorer 10 auto-correct randomly capitalises words

  I use Internet Explorer 10 on my Windows 7 laptop (because the fingerprint browser add-on only works in IE). I have noticed that IE 10 has a built-in spellchecker, which is great. Now, I write about 90 % English and 10 % Swedish on web sites, so it is somewhat unfortunate that it isn't possible to change the spell-checker language 'on-the-fly'. But that's a minor issue. The main problem is that, when I write English comments, the spell-checker (apparently randomly) capitalises some Words. For instance, the 'words' of the previous sentence was changed automatically to 'Words'. Another Word that is Always capitalised is Before. (Yes, the Three Words that are incorrectly capitalised in the previous sentence are due to the auto-correct 'feature', and apparently 'three' is also a problematic word.) Is this really something that happens to every (bilingual) user? Is there any way to fix the issue (preferably without disabling the spell-checker altogether)?

• Auto-crop black margins dynamically of scanned images?

  I have a notebook photocopied and the photocopy scanned, about 200 pages. For various reasons I need to print this material. There are large amounts of black areas at the sides of the page (after the page itself ends), "black margins". The image looks like this: I would like to remove the black places, but keeping all text. * The even and odd pages have the black part at different places. * Notably, there is a white edge outside the black one, too! * Most notably, the black areas has no fixed width (I've tried to overlay all the images for even and odd pages separately). It's width varies. The batch algorythm should be able to detect it. Is there a way to remove these black-white margins automatically, keeping the text?

• WSUS - Auto-approve only "Needed" updates

  I'v looked through all the settings in the Automatic Approval menu, but it could not find anything about automatically approve only the needed updates. Because if I check, for instance, to auto-approve only the "Definition updates", it will approve any Definition updates, whether they are needed by my workstations or not. This is because I dont want my WSUS server to download and store updates that are not needed by any of my workstations. Also we are a lazy SMB, and we dont want to waste time to manually approve updates and stuff. Is this even possible ?

Our goal is to create an auto-responder rule, or template that fires at sender. I have created a mail-enabled public folder, with owner permissions for each group member. I have also set up a rule template (response) and I am a little unclear as to the send as permission set, or where to set that up. Can someone please tell me if I am on the right track? • Ubuntu stops auto-mounting flash drive

  It seems that after being up for a few days, my Ubuntu system refuses to auto-mount hot-plugged USB disks (i.e. flash drives). The output from dmesg shows that the kernel recognizes the device correctly. The only solution I'm aware of at the moment is to reboot (logging out may work as well, but the impact is the same since I have a bunch of stuff open and it takes a few minutes to get everything situated after startup/login). I thought gvfs-fuse-daemon was the thing responsible for managing filesystems in userspace, but killing and restarting that doesn't help. Any other ideas?

  Firefox browser contains network settings under Tools--Options--Advanced--Network--Settings and there is an option to do auto detect proxy settings, how should I enable this? Currently this is manually configured and its possible for users to bypass and use the internet directly. We use a variety of browsers (firefox, IE, chrome, safari, opera) on win xp, win 2003, win vista machines. How should I enable this so that the end user cannot manipulate the settings on his browser to by pass security. I have configured a squid cache proxy server for this purpose.

  I have been trying for hours to find any info on how to reconnect to a pptp vpn automatically. In windows 7 there was an option to auto reconnect and how many redial attempts ect.. I can not find that in windows 8. Have they removed it? Are they going to add this functionality? I have to have my vpn connected for long periods unattended. This is a deal breaker for me I will be going back to windows 7 if I can not find a solution. Thanks for your time..

Now what? The orientation changing is becoming my least favourite part of the iPhone SDK… (I can’t check the code on the device yet, could it be a bug in the simulator?) PS.   Rails has all sorts of auto-generated methods that I've often times struggled to find documentation for. For example, in routes.rb, if I have: map.resources :projects do |p| p.resources :tasks end This will get a plethora of auto-generate path and url helpers. Where can I find documentation for how to work with these paths? I generally understand how to work with them, but more explicit docs might help me understand some of the magic that happens behind the scenes. # compare project_path(@project) project_task_path(@project, @task) # to project_path(:id => @project.id) project_task_path(:project_id => @project.id, :id => @task.id) Also, when I change an attribute on a model, @post.foo_changed? will be true. Where can I find documentation for this and all other magical methods that are created like this? If the magic is there, I'd love to take advantage of it. And finally: Is there a complete resource for config.___ statements for environment.rb? I was able to find docs for Configuration#gem but what attributes can I set within the stubs like config.active_record.___, config.action_mailer.___, config.action_controller.___, etc. Again, I'm looking for a complete resource here, not just a settings for the examples I provided. Even if you can only answer one of these questions, please chime in. These things seem to have been hiding from me and it's my goal to get them some more exposure, so I'll be upvoting all links to docs that point me to what I'm looking for. I used to use rectangle, but it didn't go well with me. I was thinking about an image with a border (using paint.net) and moving an imageicon, but I don't know how to get the x of an imageicon or detect collision. I don't know how to detect collision of a label or increase the location either. I have searched for collision detection with components/ImageIcons, but nothing has came up. I have also searched for getting the x of ImageIcons.
