  • C Minishell Command Expansion Printing Gibberish

    - by Optimus_Pwn
I'm writing a unix minishell in C, and am at the point where I'm adding command expansion. What I mean by this is that I can nest commands in other commands, for example: $> echo hello $(echo world! ... $(echo and stuff)) hello world! ... and stuff I think I have it working mostly, however it isn't marking the end of the expanded string correctly, for example if I do: $> echo a $(echo b $(echo c)) a b c $> echo d $(echo e) d e c See it prints the c, even though I didn't ask it to. Here is my code: msh.c - http://pastebin.com/sd6DZYwB expand.c - http://pastebin.com/uLqvFGPw I have a more code, but there's a lot of it, and these are the parts that I'm having trouble with at the moment. I'll try to tell you the basic way I'm doing this. Main is in msh.c, here it gets a line of input from either the commandline or a shellfile, and then calls processline (char *line, int outFD, int waitFlag), where line is the line we just got, outFD is the file descriptor of the output file, and waitFlag tells us whether or not we should wait if we fork. When we call this from main we do it like this: processline (buffer, 1, 1); In processline, we allocate a new line: char expanded_line[EXPANDEDLEN]; We then call expand, in expand.c: expand(line, expanded_line, EXPANDEDLEN); In expand, we copy the characters literally from line to expanded_line until we find a $(, which then calls: static int expCmdOutput(char *orig, char *new, int *oldl_ind, int *newl_ind) orig is line, and new is expanded line. oldl_ind and newl_ind are the current positions in the line and expanded line, respectively. Then we pipe, and recursively call processline, passing it the nested command(for example, if we had "echo a $(echo b)", we would pass processline "echo b"). This is where I get confused, each time expand is called, is it allocating a new chunk of memory EXPANDEDLEN long? If so, this is bad because I'll run out of stack room really quickly(in the case of a hugely nested commandline input). In expand I insert a null character at the end of the expanded string, so why is it printing past it? If you guys need any more code, or explanations, just ask. Secondly, I put the code in pastebin because there's a ton of it, and in my experience people don't like it when I fill up several pages with code. Thanks.

  • Creating a multi-tenant application using PostgreSQL's schemas and Rails

    - by ramon.tayag
Stuff I've already figured out I'm learning how to create a multi-tenant application in Rails that serves data from different schemas based on what domain or subdomain is used to view the application. I already have a few concerns answered: How can you get subdomain-fu to work with domains as well? Here's someone that asked the same question which leads you to this blog. What database, and how will it be structured? Here's an excellent talk by Guy Naor, and good question about PostgreSQL and schemas. I already know my schemas will all have the same structure. They will differ in the data they hold. So, how can you run migrations for all schemas? Here's an answer. Those three points cover a lot of the general stuff I need to know. However, in the next steps I seem to have many ways of implementing things. I'm hoping that there's a better, easier way. Finally, to my question When a new user signs up, I can easily create the schema. However, what would be the best and easiest way to load the structure that the rest of the schemas already have? Here are some questions/scenarios that might give you a better idea. Should I pass it on to a shell script that dumps the public schema into a temporary one, and imports it back to my main database (pretty much like what Guy Naor says in his video)? Here's a quick summary/script I got from the helpful #postgres on freenode. While this will probably work, I'm gonna have to do a lot of stuff outside of Rails, which makes me a bit uncomfortable.. which also brings me to the next question. Is there a way to do this straight from Ruby on Rails? Like create a PostgreSQL schema, then just load the Rails database schema (schema.rb - I know, it's confusing) into that PostgreSQL schema. Is there a gem/plugin that has these things already? Methods like "create_pg_schema_and_load_rails_schema(the_new_schema_name)". If there's none, I'll probably work at making one, but I'm doubtful about how well tested it'll be with all the moving parts (especially if I end up using a shell script to create and manage new PostgreSQL schemas). Thanks, and I hope that wasn't too long! UPDATE May 11, 2010 11:26 GMT+8 Since last night I've been able to get a method to work that creates a new schema and loads schema.rb into it. Not sure if what I'm doing is correct (seems to work fine, so far) but it's a step closer at least. If there's a better way please let me know. module SchemaUtils def self.add_schema_to_path(schema) conn = ActiveRecord::Base.connection conn.execute "SET search_path TO #{schema}, #{conn.schema_search_path}" end def self.reset_search_path conn = ActiveRecord::Base.connection conn.execute "SET search_path TO #{conn.schema_search_path}" end def self.create_and_migrate_schema(schema_name) conn = ActiveRecord::Base.connection schemas = conn.select_values("select * from pg_namespace where nspname != 'information_schema' AND nspname NOT LIKE 'pg%'") if schemas.include?(schema_name) tables = conn.tables Rails.logger.info "#{schema_name} exists already with these tables #{tables.inspect}" else Rails.logger.info "About to create #{schema_name}" conn.execute "create schema #{schema_name}" end # Save the old search path so we can set it back at the end of this method old_search_path = conn.schema_search_path # Tried to set the search path like in the methods above (from Guy Naor) # conn.execute "SET search_path TO #{schema_name}" # But the connection itself seems to remember the old search path. # If set this way, it works. conn.schema_search_path = schema_name # Directly from databases.rake. # In Rails 2.3.5 databases.rake can be found in railties/lib/tasks/databases.rake file = "#{Rails.root}/db/schema.rb" if File.exists?(file) Rails.logger.info "About to load the schema #{file}" load(file) else abort %{#{file} doesn't exist yet. It's possible that you just ran a migration!} end Rails.logger.info "About to set search path back to #{old_search_path}." conn.schema_search_path = old_search_path end end

  • ValueError with multi-table inheritance in Django Admin

    I created two new classes which inherit model Entry: class Entry(models.Model): LANGUAGE_CHOICES = settings.LANGUAGES language = models.CharField(max_length=2, verbose_name=_('Comment language'), choices=LANGUAGE_CHOICES) user = models.ForeignKey(User) country = models.ForeignKey(Country, null=True, blank=True) created = models.DateTimeField(auto_now=True) class Comment(Entry): comment = models.CharField(max_length=2000, blank=True, verbose_name=_('Comment in English')) class Discount(Entry): discount = models.CharField(max_length=2000, blank=True, verbose_name=_('Comment in English')) coupon = models.CharField(max_length=2000, blank=True, verbose_name=_('Coupon code if needed')) After adding these new models to admin via admin.site.register I'm getting ValueError when trying to create a comment or a discount via admin. • Read Text File line by line using Command Prompt/Batch

    - by user353305
Hello All, First of all I am very thankful to the owner of this website. I have learned and implement various technologies with the help of solutions provided by the readers. I know the question I asked is posted many time in this forum. And I have tired all of the solutions available, but no luck I may case I am trying to read a dat file which is basically a msg/feed file having more than 22000 Characters. Every line may or may not be of same length. My requirement is to convert the file to fixed line length character file. I have a logic that work well using vb script, however its pretty slow. I have checked with For f/ but no luck. The only delimiter I have is EOT, which i can see in Textpad but not in notepad. I have tried with \n, token=. Please help me in resolving the issue. Regards, Rajiv [email protected]

  • Xcode "Build and Archive" from command line

    - by Dan Fabulich
Xcode 3.2 provides an awesome new feature under the Build menu, "Build and Archive" which generates an .ipa file suitable for Ad Hoc distribution. You can also open the Organizer, go to "Archived Applications," and "Submit Application to iTunesConnect." Is there a way to use "Build and Archive" from the command line (as part of a build script)? I'd assume that xcodebuild would be involved somehow, but the man page doesn't seem to say anything about this.

  • add a start up item via command line (mac)

    - by adam n
How can I add a start up item via command line on a mac? From googling, I know you have to edit ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginitems.plist using defaults write com.apple.loginitems [key] [value] but i'm not sure exactly which things to edit.

  • how to start growl via the command line

    - by adam n
I have a bash script that uses growlnotify to send notifications. However, growlnotify doesn't work if Growl isn't already running, and it won't auto start Growl if it needs it, either. So I want to be able to check if Growl is running, and then start it if it isn't. I'm thinking of doing something like: g=$(ps -e | grep Growl | grep -v grep) if [ -z "$g" ] # Growl isn't running then # (start Growl) fi How would I start Growl via the command line?

  • Draw arrow on line algorithm

    - by nunos
Does anyone have an algorithm for drawing an arrow in the middle of a given line. I have searched for google but haven't found any good implementation. P.S. I really don't mind the language, but it would be great if it was Java, since it is the language I am using for this. Thanks in advance.

  • How do I create a scheduled task, via command line, which includes advanced options

    - by David
I'm trying to create a scheduled task (in WinXP) which runs every 10 minutes, starting at 16:00:00 to 06:00:00, daily, from the command line. Currently, I can create a scheduled task which runs every 10 minutes, starting at 16:00:00, daily, by using the following command: SCHTASKS.EXE /CREATE /SC MINUTE /MO 10 /TN "Scheduled task name" /ST 16:00:00 /SD 01/01/2000 /TR task.bat /RU SYSTEM The question is, how do I modify the previous command so that it stops running at 06:00:00?

  • Eclipse Plugin that Opens a Command Line in Eclipse

    - by Jonas Laufu
I'm looking for an Eclipse plug-in that shows a system (independent) command line in a view that is ideally synchronized with the current project's local path. So basically a shell within Eclipse. The reason for this is to be able to execute custom build commands and script faster than specifying them as launch configurations or having to open a command prompt every time I start eclipse.

  • Java: Using Comman line arguments to process the names of files

    - by Kat
I'm a writing a program that will determine the number of lines, characters, and average word length for a text file. For the program, the specifications say that the file or files will be entered as a command line argument and that we should make a TestStatistic object for each file entered. I don't understand how to write the code for making the TestStatistic objects if the user enters more than one file.

  • Command line semaphore utility

    - by compie
I want to write a command line utility that can be used to synchronize the execution off programs in different consoles. Console A: $ first_program && semaphore -signal Console B: $ semaphore -wait && second_program The first program takes a long take to complete. The second program can only start when the first program has finished. Which synchronization object do I need to implement this (in Python)?

I have a script that I want to exit early under some condition: if not "id" in dir(): print "id not set, cannot continue" # exit here! # otherwise continue with the rest of the script... print "alright..." [ more code ] I run this script using execfile("foo.py") from the Python interactive prompt and I would like the script to exit going back to the command line. How do I do this? If I use sys.exit(), the Python interpreter exits completely.
