• Delay of mail delivery - Hosted exchange provider

  Hi, I recently signed up to a new hosted email provider. When I send mail (from OWA, OR Outlook) there is a delay of up to 3 minutes from when i send the message, to when it's received (in my gmail account for example) I've listed the headers below. Is there anything I can advise my new email host to do? My previous email host delivers within 5 seconds!! • Good HDMI splitter/switch solution

  I have a full HD TV which has only 2 HDMI ports on it. Since I have more than 2 devices I connect to TV (e.g. laptop, game console, DVD player), it becomes uncomfortable to plug in and plug out HDMI cables every time I need to use the relevant device. I need a cheap solution to increase the number of my HDMI ports at least to 3. What type of splitter/switch do you recommend? Does the quality of splitter matter, or do they all produce the same audio & video quality?

• HD Video Capture Card w/ Good API?

  Does anyone here know of a good HD video capture card that has a good (comprehensive) API? I administer a few servers that do some video encoding right now, but when we make the switch to HD cameras, they won't be sufficient. In addition to this, the servers we have now are black boxes, closed to me except to start/stop the video capture device. I'd like to be able to roll my own, so we can better integrate it with our existing systems, but I know almost nothing about what kind of HD capture cards are out there, and if I can avoid spending money just to test their APIs that would rock. So does anyone have any experience with this? All our other software is in C#, and I'd like to set up the new servers with web interfaces to start/stop the capture (also in C#, using .NET 3.5 probably). I'm not sure how language specific these APIs would be, but that's what I'm working with just as a reference point. I appreciate any help the community can give!

• [python] voice communication for python help!

  Hello! I'm currently trying to write a voicechat program in python. All tips/trick is welcome to do this. So far I found pyAudio to be a wrapper of PortAudio. So I played around with that and got an input stream from my microphone to be played back to my speakers. Only RAW of course. But I can't send RAW-data over the netowrk (due the size duh), so I'm looking for a way to encode it. And I searched around the 'net and stumbled over this speex-wrapper for python. It seems to good to be true, and believe me, it was. You see in pyAudio you can set the size of the chunks you want to take from your input audiobuffer, and in that sample code on the link, it's set to 320. Then when it's encoded, its like ~40 bytes of data per chunk, which is fairly acceptable I guess. And now for the problem. I start a sample program which just takes the input stream, encodes the chunks, decodes them and play them (not sending over the network due testing). If I just let my computer idle and run this program it works great, but as soon as I do something, i.e start Firefox or something, the audio input buffer gets all clogged up! It just grows and then it all crashes and gives me an overflow error on the buffer.. OK, so why am I just taking 320 bytes of the stream? I could just take like 1024 bytes or something and that will easy the pressure on the buffer. BUT. If I give speex 1024 bytes of data to encode/decode, it either crashes and says that thats too big for its buffer. OR it encodes/decodes it, but the sound is very noisy and "choppy" as if it only encoded a tiny bit of that 1024 chunk and the rest is static noise. So the sound sounds like a helicopter, lol. I did some research and it seems that speex only can convert 320 bytes of data at time, and well, 640 for wide-band. But that's the standard? How can I fix this problem? How should I construct my program to work with speex? I could use a middle-buffer tho that takes all available data to read from the buffer, then chunk this up in 320 bits and encode/decode them. But this takes a bit longer time and seems like a very bad solution of the problem.. Because as far as I know, there's no other encoder for python that encodes the audio so it can be sent over the network in acceptable small packages, or? I've been googling for three days now. Also there is this pyMedia library, I don't know if its good to convert to mp3/ogg for this kind of software. Thank in in advance for reading this, hope anyone can help me! (:

• KeepAliveException when using HttpWebRequest.GetResponse

  I am trying to POST an attachment to CouchDB using the HttpWebRequest. However, when I attempt "response = (HttpWebResponse)httpWebRequest.GetResponse();" I receive a WebException with the message "The underlying connection was closed: A connection that was expected to be kept alive was closed by the server." I have found some articles stating that setting the keepalive to false and httpversion to 1.0 resolves the situation. I am finding that it does not yeilding the exact same error, plus I do not want to take that approach as I do not want to use the 1.0 version due to how it handles the connection. Any suggestions or ideas are welcome. • What is a usable throughput for a home media server

  I am looking to setup a home server that will act as a media server. This will include both video (possibly HD) and audio. The clients will be a fun mix of hardware but that is a different question. What I want to know is what is the minimum throughput for streaming video without hitches? Is there a "sweet" spot for throughput (price vs. throughput)? I am determining my budget for this "upgrade" and I need to evaluate wether or not upgrading to a 1 Gbps home LAN is required. Sure, it would be sweet and easily handle the traffic but I don't want to do it unless it is necesary.

  Some audio output from files or streams is too low. It is obvious that hardware is able to play the same sounds but louder but because of the data it just plays it at some low level even at 100% volume. Vlc can generally increase the volume of a file up to 200%. Is there a way to do the same thing VLC does system-wide and if possible for an arbitrary v percentage value. If there is no application that does this, where should i look into for libs to do it myself or what code should i modify(eg code in the alsamixer) thank you

  I'm currently writing some tests so that I may improve my skills with the Internet interaction through Windows Forms. One of those tests is to find a postal code which should be returned by Canada Post website. My default URL setting is set to: http://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/fpc/personal/findByCity?execution=e4s1 The required form fields are: streetNumber, streetName, city, province The contentType is "application/x-www-form-enclosed" EDIT: Please consider the value "application/x-www-form-encoded" instead of point 3 value as the contentType. (Thanks EricLaw-MSFT!) The result I get is not the result expected. I get the HTML source code of the page where I could manually enter the information to find the postal code, but not the HTML source code with the found postal code. Any idea of what I'm doing wrong? Shall I consider going the XML way? Is it first of all possible to search on Canada Post anonymously? • ListView items not responding to tap

  I'm just getting my feet wet with Android and have built a UI that contains a TabHost with three tabs. Each tab is powered by its own Activity. The first Tab contains a listview with a prepopulated set of rows and is built from a custom ArrayAdapter. The problem I'm running into is that none of the ListView rows are tappable. In other words, when I tap on them there is no orange selection. If I use the scroll ball on my Nexus One it will select, but any touch gestures don't seem to be responding. • How to get better video quality in Lync?

  I want to use a ConferenceCam from Logitech to stream talks live via Lync. When I view the RAW webcam image via VLC, the quality is very good (but the latency is high because of buffering). However, when I stream it using Lync, the video gets blurry. Is there a way to ensure QoS in Lync or otherwise improve the video quality to (near-)native? I would rather have some dropped frames than a lower resolution where I can't read the slides. In my setup, I use Lync with an Office365-E3 contract, so I have no Lync-Server in my network. I thought about replacing Lync completely with VLC, but I first want to try Lync because VLC will probably cause firewall issues. Also, I haven't looked up the VLC parameters for less buffering, faster encoding, a bit lower resolution (natively it's more than HD) and streaming.

• Overriding Debian default groups from LDAP

  This is a thing that has always bothered me: how am I best to handle Debian standard groups for LDAP users? Debian has a number of groups defined by default, e.g. plugdev, audio, cdrom and so on. These control access in standard Debian installs. When I want a user from LDAP to be a member of the `audio' group on all machines they log in to, I've tried a few different things: Adding them to the local group on the machine (this works but is hard to maintain) Creating a group in LDAP with the same name and a different GID then adding the user to that group (breaks reverse / forward GID mapping, doesn't seem to work) Creating a group in LDAP with the same name and same GID and adding the user to that group (doesn't seem to work at all, things don't see the LDAP group members) Creating a group in LDAP with the same name and same GID then removing the local group (this works but upsets Debian's maintenance scripts during upgrades that check for local system sanity) What's the best practice for this scenario?

Since I have more than 2 devices I connect to TV (e.g. laptop, game console, DVD player), it becomes uncomfortable to plug in and plug out HDMI cables every time I need to use the relevant device. I need a cheap solution to increase the number of my HDMI ports at least to 3. What type of splitter do you recommend? Does the quality of splitter matter, or do they all produce the same audio & video quality?

I'm trying to upload a file called 'Testaråäö.txt' via the Django admin app. I'm running Django 1.3.1 with Gunicorn 0.13.4 and Nginx 0.7.6.7 on a Debian 6 server. Database is PostgreSQL 8.4.9. Other Unicode data is saved to the database with no problem, so I guess the problem must be with the filesystem somehow. I've set http { charset utf-8; } in my nginx.conf. LC_ALL and LANG is set to 'sv_SE.UTF-8'. Running 'locale' verifies this. I even tried setting LC_ALL and LANG in my nginx init script just to make sure locale is set properly. • Javascript crc32 function and PHP crc32 not matching

  Hello everyone, I'm working on a webapp where I want to match some crc32 values that have been generated server side in PHP with some crc32 values that I am generating in Javascript. Both are using the same input string but returning different values. I found a crc32 javascript library on webtoolkit, found here: "http://www.webtoolkit.info/javascript-crc32.html" ... when I try and match a simple CRC32 value that I generate in PHP, for the life of me I can't generate the same matching value in the Javascript crc32 function. I tried adding a utf-8 language encoding meta tag to the top of my page with no luck. I've also tried adding a PHP utf8_encode() around the string before I enter it into the PHP crc32 function, but still no matching crc's .... Is this a character encoding issue? How do I get these two generated crc's to match? • Sound does not work on the administrator profile.Works on a non-administrator profile on Windows XP

  Initially I suspected a missing driver, but then sound ( for movies,songs etc ) works fine on the other non-administrator account, but does not work when I log in to the Administrator account. And yes..I have checked the sound volume and mute status as well.   What is the real benefits of all of these? From what I can understand, HDMI offers the ability to send audio along the same cable as well as the ability to do progressive scan. I've Googled but I can't seem to find any real answers. Why would someone care to run 1280x1024 over HDMI or DVI instead of VGA? What about component? All I hear is one is digital and one is analog, but I can't find what that means from a feature/benefit stand point.
