  • java - POST vs JDBC

    - by Dan
OK so here's the code: import java.io.BufferedReader; import java.io.InputStreamReader; import java.net.URL; public class Main { public static void main(String[] args) { try { URL my_url = new URL("http://www.viralpatel.net/blogs/"); BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(my_url.openStream())); String strTemp = ""; while(null != (strTemp = br.readLine())){ System.out.println(strTemp); } } catch (Exception ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } } } Using this method I can use POST and GET methods using PHP scripts. I can then use the PHP scripts to the MySQL database which in turn outputs back to the java applet. Is this possible? (and safer?) Thanks.

  • Importing Sqlite data into Google App Engine

    - by Keck
I have a relatively extensive sqlite database that I'd like to import into my Google App Engine python app. I've created my models using the appengine API which are close, but not quite identical to the existing schema. I've written an import script to load the data from sqlite and create/save new appengine objects, but the appengine environment blocks me from accessing the sqlite library. This script is only to be run on my local app engine instance, and from there I hope to push the data to google. Am I approaching this problem the wrong way, or is there a way to import the sqlite library while running in the local instance's environment?

  • How do I configure the Python logging module in Django?

    - by mipadi
I'm trying to configure logging for a Django app using the Python logging module. I have placed the following bit of configuration code in my Django project's settings.py file: import logging import logging.handlers import os date_fmt = '%m/%d/%Y %H:%M:%S' log_formatter = logging.Formatter(u'[%(asctime)s] %(levelname)-7s: %(message)s (%(filename)s:%(lineno)d)', datefmt=date_fmt) log_dir = os.path.join(PROJECT_DIR, "var", "log", "my_app") log_name = os.path.join(log_dir, "nyrb.log") bytes = 1024 * 1024 # 1 MB if not os.path.exists(log_dir): os.makedirs(log_dir) handler = logging.handlers.RotatingFileHandler(log_name, maxBytes=bytes, backupCount=7) handler.setFormatter(log_formatter) handler.setLevel(logging.DEBUG) logging.getLogger().setLevel(logging.DEBUG) logging.getLogger().addHandler(handler) logging.getLogger(__name__).info("Initialized logging subsystem") At startup, I get a couple Django-related messages, as well as the "Initialized logging subsystem", in the log files, but then all the log messages end up going to the web server logs (/var/log/apache2/error.log, since I'm using Apache), and use the standard log format (not the formatter I designated). Am I configuring logging incorrectly?

  • python: can't terminate a thread hung in socket.recvfrom() call

    - by Dihlofos
Hello, everyone I cannot get a way to terminate a thread that is hung in a socket.recvfrom() call. For example, ctrl+c that should trigger KeyboardInterrupt exception can't be caught. Here is a script I've used for testing: from socket import * from threading import Thread from sys import exit class TestThread(Thread): def __init__(self,host="localhost",port=9999): self.sock = socket(AF_INET,SOCK_DGRAM) self.sock.bind((host,port)) super(TestThread,self).__init__() def run(self): while True: try: recv_data,addr = self.sock.recvfrom(1024) except (KeyboardInterrupt, SystemExit): sys.exit() if __name__ == "__main__": server_thread = TestThread() server_thread.start() while True: pass The main thread (the one that executes infinite loop) exits. However the thread that I explicitly create, keeps hanging in recvfrom(). Please, help me resolve this.

  • How to register a model in django-tagging anywhere not in the applications?

    - by culebrón
Is it possible to register a model in django-tagging not in tagging app, nor in my app? The standard way is to edit apps/myapp/models.py this way: from apps import tagging tagging.register(MyModel) I want to keep both applications without changes, for example, to be able to pull new versions and just replace them. So I tried putting this into project settings.py, in the end, but of course this fails. from apps.myapp.models import MyModel from apps import tagging tagging.register(MyModel) (This fails when importing MyModel.) Any other way?

  • Decorator for determining HTTP response from a view

    - by polera
I want to create a decorator that will allow me to return a raw or "string" representation of a view if a GET parameter "raw" equals "1". The concept works, but I'm stuck on how to pass context to my renderer. Here's what I have so far: from django.shortcuts import render_to_response from django.http import HttpResponse from django.template.loader import render_to_string def raw_response(template): def wrap(view): def response(request,*args,**kwargs): if request.method == "GET": try: if request.GET['raw'] == "1": render = HttpResponse(render_to_string(template,{}),content_type="text/plain") return render except Exception: render = render_to_response(template,{}) return render return response return wrap Currently, the {} is there just as a place holder. Ultimately, I'd like to be able to pass a dict like this: @raw_response('my_template_name.html') def view_name(request): render({"x":42}) Any assistance is appreciated.

  • Set Java Application's virtual machine max memory without access to VM parameters because of custom

    - by Tom
I'm using a Java application which allows you to import custom files. On import, these files are loaded into memory. The problem is that the files I want to import are very big, this causes an OutOfMemory exception. The crash log also informs me that the VM was started with the java parameter "-Xmx512m", I want to alter this to "-Xmx1024m" so that I got double the memory available. The problem is that this application is using it's own JRE folder and that there's a launcher written in C which is calling the jvm.dll file. In any way, java.exe or javaw.exe are never called and thus I cannot set these parameters myself (if I delete these executables it doesn't matter, can still run the application - this is not the case with the dll). So, my question is, can I set this VM parameter in an other way? I'm even willing to alter the JRE files if there is no other way.

  • Python - calendar.timegm() vs. time.mktime()

    - by ibz
I seem to have a hard time getting my head around this. What's the difference between calendar.timegm() and time.mktime()? Say I have a datetime.datetime with no tzinfo attached, shouldn't the two give the same output? Don't they both give the number of seconds between epoch and the date passed as a parameter? And since the date passed has no tzinfo, isn't that number of seconds the same? >>> import calendar >>> import time >>> import datetime >>> d = datetime.datetime(2010, 10, 10) >>> calendar.timegm(d.timetuple()) 1286668800 >>> time.mktime(d.timetuple()) 1286640000.0 >>>

  • Tkinter Gui to read in csv file and generate buttons based on the entries in the first row

    - by Thomas Jensen
I need to write a gui in Tkinter that can choose a csv file, read it in and generate a sequence of buttons based on the names in the first row of the csv file (later the data in the csv file should be used to run a number of simulations). So far I have managed to write a Tkinter gui that will read the csv file, but I am stomped as to how I should proceed: from Tkinter import * import tkFileDialog import csv class Application(Frame): def __init__(self, master = None): Frame.__init__(self,master) self.grid() self.createWidgets() def createWidgets(self): top = self.winfo_toplevel() self.menuBar = Menu(top) top["menu"] = self.menuBar self.subMenu = Menu(self.menuBar) self.menuBar.add_cascade(label = "File", menu = self.subMenu) self.subMenu.add_command( label = "Read Data",command = self.readCSV) def readCSV(self): self.filename = tkFileDialog.askopenfilename() f = open(self.filename,"rb") read = csv.reader(f, delimiter = ",") app = Application() app.master.title("test") app.mainloop() Any help is greatly appreciated!

  • How does this If conditional work in Python?

    - by Sergio Boombastic
    from google.appengine.api import users from google.appengine.ext import webapp from google.appengine.ext.webapp.util import run_wsgi_app class MainPage(webapp.RequestHandler): def get(self): user = users.get_current_user() if user: self.response.headers['Content-Type'] = 'text/plain' self.response.out.write('Hello, ' + user.nickname()) else: self.redirect(users.create_login_url(self.request.uri)) application = webapp.WSGIApplication( [('/', MainPage)], debug=True) def main(): run_wsgi_app(application) if __name__ == "__main__": main() I don't understand how this line works: if user: self.response.headers['Content-Type'] = 'text/plain' self.response.out.write('Hello, ' + user.nickname()) else: self.redirect(users.create_login_url(self.request.uri)) I'm guessing the users.get_current_user() return a boolean? Then, if that is the case how can it get a .nickname() method? Thanks for the guidance.

  • Mocking imported modules in Python

    - by Evgenyt
I'm trying to implement unit tests for function that uses imported external objects. For example helpers.py is: import os import pylons def some_func(arg): ... var1 = os.path.exist(...) var2 = os.path.getmtime(...) var3 = pylons.request.environ['HTTP_HOST'] ... So when I'm creating unit test for it I do some mocking (minimock in my case) and replacing references to pylons.request and os.path: import helpers def test_some_func(): helpers.pylons.request = minimock.Mock("pylons.request") helpers.pylons.request.environ = { 'HTTP_HOST': "localhost" } helpers.os.path = minimock.Mock(....) ... some_func(...) # assert ... This does not look good for me. Is there any other better way or strategy to substitute imported function/objects in Python?

  • iPhone noob - different method types?

    - by codemonkey
My apologies in advance for what is probably a really dumb question. I'm familiar (or at least getting familiar) with instance and class methods in objective-c, but have also seen method implementations that look like this: #import "Utilities.h" #import "CHAPPAppDelegate.h" #import "AppState.h" @implementation Utilities CHAPPAppDelegate* GetAppDelegate() { return (CHAPPAppDelegate *)[UIApplication sharedApplication].delegate; } AppState* GetAppState() { return [GetAppDelegate() appState]; } @end What are these? While I'm sure this is documented somewhere, I don't know what term to use in searching for an explanation of what's being done here. I like the syntax methods like this let me use when calling them, but I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing, what the implications are, how to send parameters to these types of functions, etc? To clarify how I ended up in this position, I started using these methods in a "utilities" class of mine after reading some online blog describing the author's preference for declaring these functions this way. Now I can't seem to track down a more detailed explanation of what exactly the differences are, etc.

  • In MAYA 2009, is it possible to capture the cube rotate event?

    - by Rahul2047
I need to call a function ( Maya-Python ) based on cube rotationX. For that I have to capture the event, programmatically. I tried using while loop but It stucks in the loop, Nothing can be done in that time. I tried theading (python), still same. Can it be done this or other way? If yes, How? Maya 2009 in Windows XP Some failed code references: import maya.cmds as cmds while (count < 90): lock = cmds.getAttr('pCube1.rotateX',lock=False) print lock count = count + 1 Here Python wise: #!/usr/bin/python import thread import time # Define a function for the thread def cubeRotateX( threadName, delay): count = 0 while count < 5: time.sleep(delay) count += 1 try: thread.start_new_thread( cubeRotateX, ("Thread-1", 2, ) ) except: print "Error: unable to start thread" while 1: pass

  • Python json memory bloat

    - by Anoop
import json import time from itertools import count def keygen(size): for i in count(1): s = str(i) yield '0' * (size - len(s)) + str(s) def jsontest(num): keys = keygen(20) kvjson = json.dumps(dict((keys.next(), '0' * 200) for i in range(num))) kvpairs = json.loads(kvjson) del kvpairs # Not required. Just to check if it makes any difference print 'load completed' jsontest(500000) while 1: time.sleep(1) Linux top indicates that the python process holds ~450Mb of RAM after completion of 'jsontest' function. If the call to 'json.loads' is omitted then this issue is not observed. A gc.collect after this function execution does releases the memory. Looks like the memory is not held in any caches or python's internal memory allocator as explicit call to gc.collect is releasing memory. Is this happening because the threshold for garbage collection (700, 10, 10) was never reached ? I did put some code after jsontest to simulate threshold. But it didn't help.
