How do I get a UIView which displays text to behave like a UILabel when bounds change?

I have a UIView in which I need to draw text in drawRect: - (void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { ... [@"some text" drawAtPoint:somePoint withFont:someFont]; ... } Because the text requires special formatting, I cannot just use a UILabel. It looks fine until I rotate the device. Then the size of my custom UIView changes (in the parent view's layoutSubviews method), and the text becomes stretched in one direction and squished in the other. When I replace my view with a UILabel, the text always looks great, even when the bounds of the view changes. How can I get my view to exhibit the same behavior as UILabel? Some things I have looked into, but have yet to have success with: Set the view's layer's needsDisplayOnBoundsChange to YES. Set the view's contentStretch to CGRectZero. Call setNeedsDisplay in my view's layoutSubviews. Maybe I'm not doing one of these things right. Has anyone else run into this?

Guys, I have been looking for a portable method to digitally sign arbitrary text which can be placed in a document and distributed while maintaining its verifiable origin. Here is an example: a = 'some text' a.sign(<private key>) # => <some signature in ASCII format> The contents of a can now be distributed freely. If a receiver wants to check the validity of said text they can do the following: b = 'some text' b.valid(<public key>, <signature supplied with text>) # => true/false Is there any library out there that already offers this kind of functionality? Check if NSString "000001XX"is a number with intValue

Now I am trying to add a front end check on my app to detect if user input only number in the textfield. Useful WatiN Extension Methods

I've been doing a fair amount of UI testing using WatiN recently – here’s some extension methods I've found useful. This checks if a WatiN TextField is actually a hidden field. WatiN makes no distinction between text and hidden inputs, so this can come in handy if you render an input sometimes as hidden and sometimes as a visible text field. Note that this doesn't check if an input is visible (I've got another extension method for that in a moment), it checks if it’s hidden. public static bool IsHiddenField(this TextField textField) { if (textField == null || !textField.Exists) { return false; } var textFieldType = textField.GetAttributeValue("type"); return (textFieldType != null) && textFieldType.ToLowerInvariant() == "hidden"; } The next method quickly sets the value of a text field to a given string. By default WatiN types the text you give it into a text field one character at a time which can be necessary if you have behaviour you want to test which is triggered by individual key presses, but which most of time is just painfully slow; this method dumps the text in in one go. What do you do when a client requires Rich Text Editing on their website?

As we all know by now, XSS attacks are dangerous and really easy to pull off. Various frameworks make it easy to encode HTML, like ASP.NET MVC does: <%= Html.Encode("string"); %> But what happens when your client requires that they be able to upload their content directly from a Microsoft Word document? Here's the scenario: People can copy and paste content from Microsoft word into a WYSIWYG editor (in this case tinyMCE), and then that information is posted to a web page. The website is public, but only members of that organization will have access to post information to a webpage. What is the best way to handle this requirement? Currently there is no checking done on what the client posts (since only 'trusted' users can post), but I'm not particularly happy with that and would like to lock it down further in case an account is hacked. The platform in question is ASP.NET MVC. The only conceptual method that I'm aware of that meets these requirements is to whitelist HTML tags and let those pass through. Is there another way? If not, is the best way to let them store it in the Database in any form, but only display it properly encoded and stripped of bad tags? NB: The questions differ in that he only assumes there's one way. I'm also asking the following questions: 1. Is there a better way that doesn't rely on HTML Whitelists? 2. Is there a better way that relies on a different view engine? 3. Is there a WYSIWYG editor that includes the ability to whitelist on the fly? 4. Should I even worry about this since it will only be for 'private posting' (Much in the same way that a private blog allows HTML From the author, but since only he can post, it's not an issue)? Edit #2: If suggesting a WYSIWYG editor, it must be free (as in speech, or as in beer). Update: All of the suggestions thus far revolve around a specific Rich Text Editor to use: Only provide an editor as a suggestion if it allows for sanitization of HTML tags; and it fulfills the requirement of accepting pasted documents from a WYSIWYG Editor like Microsoft Word. There are three methods that I know of: 1. Not allow HTML. 2. Allow HTML, but sanitize it 3. Find a Rich Text Editor that sanitizes and allows HTML. The previous questions remain (1-4 above). 0xC0017011 and other error messages - what is the error message text?

Recently there was a bug raised against BIDS Helper which originated in my Expression Editor control. Thankfully the person that raised it kindly included a screenshot, so I had the error code (HRESULT 0xC0017011) and a stack trace that pointed the finger firmly at my control, but no error message text. The code itself looked fine so I searched on the error code but got no results. I’d expected to get a hit from Books Online with the Integration Services Error and Message Reference topic at the very least, but no joy. There is however a more accurate and definitive reference, namely the header file that defines all these codes dtsmsg.h which you can find at- C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\SDK\Include\dtsmsg.h Looking the code up in the header file gave me a much more useful error message. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// // The parameter is sensitive // // MessageId: DTS_E_SENSITIVEPARAMVALUENOTALLOWED // // MessageText: // // Accessing value of the parameter variable for the sensitive parameter "%1!s!" is not allowed. Verify that the variable is used properly and that it protects the sensitive information. // #define DTS_E_SENSITIVEPARAMVALUENOTALLOWED ((HRESULT)0xC0017011L) Unfortunately I’d forgotten all about this. By the time I had remembered about it, the person who raised the issue had managed to narrow it down to something to do with having sensitive parameter. Putting that together with the error message I’d finally found, a quick poke around in the code and I found the new GetSensitiveValue method which seemed to do the trick. The HResult fields are also listed online but it only shows the short error message, and it doesn’t include that all so important HRESULT value itself. So let this be a lesson to you (and me!), if you need to check SSIS error go straight to the horses mouth - dtsmsg.h. This is particularly true when working with early builds, or CTP releases when we expect the documentation to be a bit behind. There is also a programmatic approach to getting better SSIS error messages. I should to take another look at the error handling in the control, or the way it is hosted in BIDS Helper. I suspect that if I use an implementation of Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.IDTSInfoEvents100 I could catch the error itself and get the full error message text which I could then report back. This would obviously be a better user experience and also make it easier to diagnose any issues like this in the future. I have a pair of custom self closing tags s1 and s2 defined in namespace x in my xhtml. For each tag pair s1, s2 having the same id, I want to add span tags to all the text nodes between them. Each s1, s2 tag pair have a unique id. The s1 tag has an attribute 'styleName' which needs to be copied as the class name for the span tags populated for the s1,s2 pair. Within a s1, s2 tag pair, other s1, s2 tags can occur. It is the id attribute of the tags s1 and s2 that help us to find the postion from where we need to start populating the span(for text nodes alone) and the end where we need to stop. In case of common text nodes that is part of the multiple s1, s2 pairs then the span tags needs to be opened and closed appropirately as shown in the sample below. I am not specific with the format of the id populated for the span tag. As long as it is unique it is fine. Can we achieve this kind of a solution using XSL. I am looking for a XSL based solution for the same. I am using Saxon java processor for XSL. I am trying to achieve this using XSL 2.0. Please share your ideas on this. Why is Evince not displaying application fonts/text for me?

Any time I use Evince, it just shows boxes where all the text should be. Instead, it uses the box symbol which I know stands for not being able to find a character. This problem occurs on every menu, and makes it impossible to tell what's going on in any part of the application. I've tried Googling for this problem, but my -fu is weak or it's hard to search for. I'm pretty tech-literate, and I'm running a fairly stock 10.10 install with GNOME.

How do I locate the CGRect for a substring of text in a UILabel?

For a given NSRange, I'd like to find a CGRect in a UILabel that corresponds to the glyphs of that NSRange. For example, I'd like to find the CGRect that contains the word "dog" in the sentence "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." The trick is, the UILabel has multiple lines, and the text is really attributedText, so it's a bit tough to find the exact position of the string. The method that I'd like to write on my UILabel subclass would look something like this: - (CGRect)rectForSubstringWithRange:(NSRange)range; Details, for those who are interested: My goal with this is to be able to create a new UILabel with the exact appearance and position of the UILabel, that I can then animate. I've got the rest figured out, but it's this step in particular that's holding me back at the moment. What I've done to try and solve the issue so far: I'd hoped that with iOS 7, there'd be a bit of Text Kit that would solve this problem, but most every example I've seen with Text Kit focuses on UITextView and UITextField, rather than UILabel. I've seen another question on Stack Overflow here that promises to solve the problem, but the accepted answer is over two years old, and the code doesn't perform well with attributed text. I'd bet that the right answer to this involves one of the following: Using a standard Text Kit method to solve this problem in a single line of code. I'd bet it would involve NSLayoutManager and textContainerForGlyphAtIndex:effectiveRange Writing a complex method that breaks the UILabel into lines, and finds the rect of a glyph within a line, likely using Core Text methods. My current best bet is to take apart @mattt's excellent TTTAttributedLabel, which has a method that finds a glyph at a point - if I invert that, and find the point for a glyph, that might work. Divs being hidden behind content, need to push it down.

I'm pretty much at wits end right about now and can't seem to figure out why my divs aren't pushing content down on the page. If you go to http://www.wilwaldon.com/itsbroken/template.php you'll notice that the thumbnails on the right side are getting hidden behind the content below them. I'd like the thumbnails to push the bottom content down as opposed to being behind it. Any help would be greatly appreciated and you'd pretty much save my brain from exploding at this point. I have an iFrame like so: <iframe width="100%" frameborder="0" height="470" allowtransparency="true" name="productframe" id="productframe" style="border-bottom:1px solid #eee"></iframe> The iframe contains several line items drawn from a sql server db, and I can check any of the checkboxes I want to perform a task with - in this case delete them. I have a button in the parent document that says "Delete selected", and I'd like to be able to click this button and populate a hidden field in my parent page with the values of the selected checkboxes in the child iframe. My checkboxes look like this: <input id="Checkbox1" type="checkbox" value="47" title="Select this row" name="selectItem"/> I have an instance of jquery on my parent page so I can make use of jquery selectors, I just have no clue as to the syntax needed to do this. IE8 positions DIV overlay wrong way and keeps playing video when it's hidden.

Hi! Please take a look at: http://www.binarymark.com/Products/PasswordGenerator/default.aspx (the Overview tab, on the diagram). The issue is wjen you click on any of the diagram elements say "Character Groups" all browsers, except IE8 behave well - that is they display the overlay, start playing a video, and when the overlay is closed, the video stops playing an the div is hidden. IE8, on the other hand has two flaws: it positions the overlay way towards the bottom and too much to the right, and even more annoyingly - it keeps playing video in the background even when the overlay div is closed! I use flowplayer.org/tools/overlay/ for overlay. Can you help please? Thanks.

Winforms - How to allow user to increase font size of listview with hidden controls?

I am creating an winform application that will run on a tablet PC. One form for this app will have a listview control. I would like to allow the user to change the font size based on preference (ie did they remember their glasses today). A few ways that I can think of would be a numeric-up-down or +/- button controls. Both of these ways require screen real estate that is very limited. Is there a control or technique that would allow font size changes with a hidden-when-not-used control?

Specifying default value for django hidden form field - bone DRY?

So let's say at the last minute (in the view) I decide I want to specify a default for a field and make it hidden, like so: form.fields['coconut'] = forms.ModelChoiceField(label="", widget=forms.HiddenInput(), queryset=swallow.coconuts.all(), initial=some_particular_coconut) My question is this: Do I really need to specify queryset here? I mean, I already know, from initial, exactly which coconut I'm talking about. Why do I also need to specify that the universe of available coconuts is the set of coconuts which this particular swallow carried (by the husk)? Is there a way I can refrain from specifying queryset? Simply omitting causes django to raise TypeError. If indeed it is required, isn't this a bit damp?

Do validations still fire in ASP.NET even if the controls are hidden?

I have a form that uses ASP.NET validations. I am using some inline C# in the aspx to show/hide certain controls depending on a user's role. I would use the Visible property, but there are so many of them, I just decided to do inline C# to show and hide (I know, not best practice, but bear with me for a second). I am having an issue where Page.IsValid is always set to False when I submit my form (when certain fields are being hidden). Will the validations still fire off even if the controls are not even rendered on the pag? Also, if this is not the case, is there an effective way of breaking down Page.IsValid to find out what is setting it to False? Thanks.

jquery XML .html() instead of .text() is not displaying?

I can't seem to figure out this problem. I am trying to get xml to render html tags. The problem I am having using .text() will display but not recognize any html tags. If I use .html() or just call var long2 = $(this).find('long'); nothing will show up in Safari or IE. I have xml paragraph I have text in here that needs bold tags or tags which is why i need html tags in the xml to be recognized.
