  • Scroll wheel causes browsers + Windows explorer to go back

    I use Windows 7 on a VirtualBox VM on a Mac. Lately, when I'm using any browser (IE9, Chrome or FireFox or even Windows Explorer), use of the scroll wheel followed by any movement of the mouse cursor causes the browser to go back. Very annoying. This happens when I use the scroll wheel on a USB connected mouse (brand/model unknown, since I don't have it in front of me as I write this) or when I use two-finger scrolling on the trackpad when no mouse is connected. When I connect from my VM to a remote Windows box (Windows Server 2008), I experience the same problem. I have tried rebooting the VM to no avail. I am not sure when the problem started exactly. It may or may not have been after I connected the USB mouse for the first time, but trying to unplug it and then rebooting didn't help. I have tried to google for a solution, but all I've found are people who accidentally pressed the shift key while scrolling, which will cause the browser to go backward or forward in the browser history. This however is not the problem I'm having. To be clear, in my case the browser only goes back when I move the mouse after I've used the scroll wheel. I'm at my wits end :(

  • How do I efficiently write a "toggle database value" function in AJAX?

    Say I have a website which shows the user ten images and asks them to categorise each image by clicking on buttons. A button for "funny", a button for "scary", a button for "pretty" and so on. These buttons aren't exclusive. A picture can be both funny and scary. The user clicks the "funny" button. An AJAX request is sent off to the database to mark that image as funny. The "funny" button lights up, by assigning a class in the DOM to mark it as "on". But the user made a mistake. They meant to hit the next button over. They should click "funny" again to turn it off, right? At this point I'm not sure whats the most efficient way to proceed. The database knows that the "funny" flag is set, but it's inefficient to query the database every time a button is clicked to say, is this flag set or not, then go on with a second database call to toggle it. Should I infer the state of the database flag from the DOM, i.e. if that button has the class "on" then the flag must be set, and branch at that point? Or would it be better to have a data structure in Javascript in the page which duplicates the state of each image in the database, so that every time I set the database flag to true, I also set the value in the Javascript data to true and so on?

    I have installed Intellij IDEA 10 on Linux (Ubuntu 8.04) and the way the context menu works is annoying me. The context menu is visible as long as I keep the right button pressed (if I release the button, the menu disappears). To click on a menu item, I have to position the cursor upon the item with the right button pressed and then release it. I've also figured out two alternative ways to keep the menu visible with the right button released: To right-click, drag, and release the button outside the context menu. Ctrl + Right-click or Shift + Right-click But I would expect the "normal" behavior: that when I right-click and release, the menu keeps visible until the next click (on an item or outside the menu). Is there a way to change this behavior? Thanks in advance.

I want to simulate click on "add another item" using jquery. which is like $('#edit-field-supp-quan-field-supp-quan-add-more').trigger('click'); but it causes whole content form to submit instead of adding extra multi value cck field. Manuall clicks are working perfectly.   • Why Does My Windows 7 PC Freeze After Waking from Sleep?

    Hey guys. I have Windows 7 running on my computer and everything is perfect. There's only one little problem. Sometimes when I leave my computer, I come back and my monitor is turned off or asleep, whichever it is. This is fine, I set it to do this. However, after turning on the monitor and moving the mouse around, the mouse cursor freezes; both the keyboard and mouse don't respond to anything, for example the keyboard's windows key won't bring up the start menu and moving the mouse around does not move the cursor around on the screen. I have to wait about a minute or two before things start working again. I figured this was a power savings setting problem, so I went into Control Panel Power Options. I only have Turn off Display = 30 minutes and Put Computer to Sleep = Never. Of course, I went into the advanced power settings to look through there. I put Never to turn off the hard disk, Sleep after never, and that's about it. Nothing else there looks like it might be causing this. I went into the device manager and checked the mouse and the keyboard, and they both have the Allow this device to wake the computer checked for both of them. Perhaps this other bit of information might help: Sometimes I VNC into my PC using my MacBook, and sometimes, as soon as it shows me the desktop, the same thing happens. The mouse won't move and VNC won't register any events on the server (Which is my PC of course). I close the client (And I know it has nothing to do with the client), then immediately restart it and try to connect. When I click the connect button, it hangs there, as if the PC is not responding. Basically it's like whenever I try to wake the computer from sleep, it does so by showing me the desktop, then it freaks out. Then again, I guess the computer isn't sleeping because the setting is set to 'Sleep after = Never'. I honestly don't know what's going on, would appreciate any insight. Thanks!

  • Synergy: Cannot send media keys from Linux to Mac

    I have a Linux Synergy server (Si-Linux) serving just one Mac client (Macbook Pro UK) (SiBook-Pro.local). On my Linux server I am using a USB Apple keyboard with the exact layout of the laptops keyboard (the compact UK aluminium keyboard). I tried to reverse the client-server config to see if I could capture the key being sent if I pressed the Play button on the Macbook but the key doesn't seem to even make it to Synergy. Almost all keyboard presses get logged but the media keys seem to bypass the logs and just execute their function locally. E.g. I press play on the Macbook (with the Macbook as the server) and the key plays music on the Macbook and the key is not logged to the debug log.

  • Qt QAbstractButton setDown interferes with grabMouse

    I have some weird behaviour in Qt that seems like a defect. I'd like to know if anybody has a good workaround. I have a popup widget that contains many buttons in it. The user activates the popup by pressing the mouse button down. The popup widget calls grabMouse when shown. It gets all the mouse events. As it rolls over a button it calls setDown(true) on the button. Now however, when the mouse button is released the popup widget does not get the mouseReleaseEvent, that goes to the button. That is, calling setDown(true) on a button causes the button to steal mouse events, bypassing the grabMouse in the popup widget. I've looked at the source code for setDown but I can't see anything there that would do it directly. I also notice however that sometimes a button gets a hover event, sometimes not. I'll use the code below as an example (each button is set up very similar)... I have it as follows: JButton jbtnNext = new JButton("Next ->"); jbtnNext.addActionListener(this); if (e.getSource() == jbtnNext) jbtnNext_Click(); private void jbtnNext_Click() { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Next" ,"Button Pressed", JOptionPane.INFORMATION_MESSAGE); try { if (rset.next()) { fillTextFields(true); }else{ //Display result in a dialog box JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Not found"); } } catch (SQLException ex) { ex.printStackTrace(); } } The professor gave the following outline of logic to construct the fillTextFields() method: Construct the method to provide reusable code that would fill the JTextFields on the GUI with appropriate values from current record from the database (when "Previous or "Next" buttons are pressed) or blank values (when the new Button is pressed). To determine when the current record was to provide values (next and previous) or the value would be blank (new button) pass a boolean argument into the method. If data from the current record was to be used as fill values, pass true for both previous and next button code after moving the record pointer. If the new button was pressed and want to fill with blank values, pass false to the method. Inside the method, use a conditional expression to evaluate the boolean variable. If true, The appropriate get----() resultset method is used to fill the JTextFields. If false, fill them with "". The .setText() method of the JTextField is used to fill each JTextField. Make sure the fillTextFields method throws the appropriate exception. I understand and have the previous and next button methods passing true, while the new button method is passing false, but I don't quite understand how to set up the fillTextFields() method correctly or how to "throw the appropriate exception"... Any help would really be appreciated, thank you!
