  • How to fill a structure when a pointer to it, is passed as an argument to a function

    - by Ram
I have a function: func (struct passwd* pw) { struct passwd* temp; struct passwd* save; temp = getpwnam("someuser"); /* since getpwnam returns a pointer to a static * data buffer, I am copying the returned struct * to a local struct. */ if(temp) { save = malloc(sizeof *save); if (save) { memcpy(save, temp, sizeof(struct passwd)); /* Here, I have to update passed pw* with this save struct. */ *pw = *save; /* (~ memcpy) */ } } } The function which calls func(pw) is able to get the updated information. But is it fine to use it as above. The statement *pw = *save is not a deep copy. I do not want to copy each and every member of structure one by one like pw-pw_shell = strdup(save-pw_shell) etc. Is there any better way to do it? Thanks.

  • Is it possible to programmatically set the state of the shift and control keys?

    - by Stephen Harrison
The reason I am asking is that I am thinking of building a foot switch to act as shift and control keys - well two switches, one for each foot. I'm planning on using the Arduino for this and writing a small C# application to detect when the switch has been pressed that would then set the state of shift or control. I would rather not have to write a keyboard driver for the Arduino as I would like it to do other things as well.

  • XBAP childWindow control available similar to Silverlight 3 ChildWindow?

    - by some guy
The Silverlight 3 toolkit has a ChildWindow control for model popup like functionality. This is great. Anyone aware of a similar control that can be utilized via XBAP? http://silverlight.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Silverlight%20Toolkit%20Overview%20Part%204&referringTitle=Silverlight%20Toolkit%20Overview%20Part%203 The assumption is maybe someone ported the functionality back to WCF/XBAP? Trying to find a solution without going to 3rd party purchased controls (against current company policy).

  • Microsoft Chart control converts \n in file names to newline characters.

    - by xpda
I am using a Microsoft Chart control (system.windows.forms.datavisualization.charting.chart) in a Windows forms application, vb.net 2008. I use folder paths for the x values in a pie chart. Chart control converts a name like c:\newfolder into c:[newline]ewfolder. I tried adding a slash, making it c:\\newfolder, but this only changes it to c:\[newline]ewfolder. Is there a workaround for this behavior?

  • Does MS Access 2010 have Tif image control display issue?

    - by ChuckB
We run MS Access as the front end for most of our business. When we upgraded from Access 2000 to Access 2003 the image control we used to print out Tif images failed to load Tifs anymore. A bit of Googling showed that MS did this intentionally and I'm wondering if the problem still happens in Access 2010. Can someone with a downloaded copy drop an image control on an Access 2010 form or report and try to get it to display a Tif file?

  • How would I create a silverlight control for tagging content similar to StackOverflow?

    - by Dan Ryan
I am new to Silverlight. How would I go about creating a control for users to tag content. I would like it to work like it does it StackOverflow i.e. Autocomplete and when you press space it inserts the tag in a box with a remove button. I want the control to be bindable to a collection of strings. If someone can just point me in the right direction to get me started I would be very grateful.

  • How to access a named element of a derived user control in silverlight ?

    - by Mrt
Hello, I have a custom base user control in silverlight. <UserControl x:Class="Problemo.MyBaseControl" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" d:DesignHeight="300" d:DesignWidth="400"> <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="White"> <Border Name="HeaderControl" Background="Red" /> </Grid> </UserControl> With the following code behind public partial class MyBaseControl : UserControl { public UIElement Header { get; set; } public MyBaseControl() { InitializeComponent(); Loaded += MyBaseControl_Loaded; } void MyBaseControl_Loaded(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { HeaderControl.Child = Header; } } I have a derived control. <me:MyBaseControl x:Class="Problemo.MyControl" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:d="http://schemas.microsoft.com/expression/blend/2008" xmlns:mc="http://schemas.openxmlformats.org/markup-compatibility/2006" mc:Ignorable="d" xmlns:me="clr-namespace:Problemo" d:DesignHeight="300" d:DesignWidth="400"> <me:MyBaseControl.Header> <TextBlock Name="header" Text="{Binding Text}" /> </me:MyBaseControl.Header> </me:MyBaseControl> With the following code behind. public partial class MyControl : MyBaseControl { public string Text { get; set; } public MyControl(string text) { InitializeComponent(); Text = text; } } I'm trying to set the text value of the header textblock in the derived control. It would be nice to be able to set both ways, i.e. with databinding or in the derived control code behind, but neither work. With the data binding, it doesn't work. If I try in the code behind I get a null reference to 'header'. This is silverlight 4 (not sure if that makes a difference) Any suggestions on how to do with with both databinding and in code ? Cheers

  • What color to use in owner-draw Windows List Control background?

    - by Mark Ransom
I have an owner-drawn list control in my Windows program. I use CListCtrl::GetBkColor to get the background color, and for a selected item I use GetSysColor(COLOR_HIGHLIGHT). This matches what Windows uses for non owner drawn list controls, except for the case where the control doesn't have focus - then the background is replaced with gray. Does Windows use one of the GetSysColor constants for the selected but unfocused background? If so, which one?

  • How do I disable zoom on control-scroll in Visual Studio 2010?

    - by Lawrence Johnston
Visual Studio 2010 adds a zoom setting on the bottom left of the text editor (to the left of the horizontal scroll bar) and also adopts the control + mouse scroll idiom for zooming in and out. The former is fine, but I dislike the latter as I am occasionally still holding control when I start scrolling my source code (which results in the text size radically changing and completely throwing me off whatever I was doing). How do I disable it?

  • Asp.net ajax combobox doesn't display correctly when inserted inside a tab control.

    - by Shimrod
Hi everybody, I have a display problem when I try to use a ajax combobox inside a tab control: when my tab control loads on the page where the combobox is, everything works fine; however, if it loads on a another page, the you change to the page which contains the combobox, the right button (which opens the list of the combobox) isn't displayed at all. Has someone been through this behavior? And maybe found a solution ? Thanks in advance !
