  Hi. I am researching how to install Ruby 1.9.1 in Xubuntu 10.04 and I came across the command build-essential and build-dep multiple times. Sometimes it is followed by packages and sometimes it is both preceded and post-ceded by packages. If i do buffering, that implies a delay, but i would like to avoid this because is a real time app. If i use this configuration, each buffer i get trash trailing samples, 1152 - 1024 = 128 bad samples.   I understand the concept of some_instance.send but I'm trying to figure out why you can call this both ways? The Ruby Koans imply that there is some reason beyond providing lots of different ways to do the same thing and I'm wrestling with figuring this out.   Greetings everybody. I have seen examples of such operations for so many times that I begin to think that I am getting something wrong with binary arithmetic. Is there any sense to perform the following: byte value = someAnotherByteValue & 0xFF; I don't really understand this, because it does not change anything anyway. Thanks for help. P.S. I was trying to search for information both elsewhere and here, but unsuccessfully. EDIT: Well, off course i assume that someAnotherByteValue is 8 bits long, the problem is that i don't get why so many people ( i mean professionals ) use such things in their code.   I've seen simple examples of rendering a Zend_Form using decorators, but I'm not sure they are able to handle the issue I'm facing very well. I query the database and get an array of user objects. I want to display these users as a form, with a radio button next to each of them and a submit button at the bottom of the page. • Correct way to (re)launch a Java application with hardware-dependent VM parameters?

  EDIT I don't want to use Java Web Start I've got a Java application that I'd like to run with different VM parameters depending on the amount of memory the system it is launched on has. For example if the machine has 1 GB of memory or less I'd like to pass "-Xmx200m" and "-Xmx400m" if it has 2 GB and "-Xmx800m" if it has 8 GB (these are just examples). Is there a portable way to do this? I've tried having a first tiny Java app (hence portable) that determines the amount of memory available and then launches a new Java app but I don't think this is very clean. As of now I've written Bash shell scripts that invoke the Java app with the correct parameters depending on the config but it only works on Linux on OS X. What is the correct way to solve this? Would application packager package ;) help ?

  I am using jQuery and the cornerz plug in to get rounded corners on elements of the page without using images. In IE7 and 8 it fails and I get this error: "Object doesn't support this property or method" on this lines: if($.browser.msie && settings.fixIE) { var ow = $$.outerWidth(); var oh = $$.outerHeight(); Basically it complains about the outerWidth and outerHeight properties... The cornerz demo page (here) works perfectly on IE7 and 8 without throwing any error and it has got several examples...I do not know why this is happening Any suggestion will be appreciated Thanks in advance

• Xaml not WPF

  I am interested in using Xaml with expression blend for creating user interfaces in an application. However, because of the limitations of the target architecture, I cannot use WPF or C#. So, what I am interested in is in any examples / existing projects or advice from anyone who has experiance of this technology on the use of Xaml in it's "Pure" form as a specification language not tied to WPF. Specific questions: 1) Is it possible to use Blend + Xaml without the WPF elements, or without C# backing classes? 2) Are there any other implementations of Xaml parsers etc. which use different architectures, and can they work with blend or similar tools. 3) Are there alternative editor / designer tools which can help in this situation? I am aware of the MyXaml and MycroXaml projects, and have found a lot of resources on the web about Xaml, but 99% of it relates directly to WPF. This is fine for understanding the concepts of Xaml, but doesn't help with the implimentation I need. Many thanks!

I have 19 categories from 11 samples, along these lines: cat,1,2,3... a,0.0,0.2,0.3 b,1.0,0.4,0.2 . . .   J2EE as I understand is used to build Enterprise applications. My question is :What are the most popular public facing(internet) sites using j2ee stack. The one's that I know of are : linkedIn.com ,evite.com and sun ibm and oracle (obviously) Eclipse.org uses php, I wonder why? If you have worked on/know any other sites, can your share your experience and also the technologies used(if that's not an issue)? EDIT:It doesn't have to use the full stack. EDIT : There are quite a few ecommerce websites like bestbuy.com. I know this bcos I worked with the ATG(atg.com) ecommerce suite and their website lists their clients. • Make a connection to a HTTPS server from Java and ignore the validity of the security certificate

  I've been testing some that works with a bunch of https servers with different keys, some of which are invalid and all of them are not in the local key store for my JVM. I am really only testing things out, so I don't care about the security at this stage. Is there a good way to make POST calls to the server and tell Java not to worry about the security certificates? My google searches for this have brought up some code examples that make a class to do the validation, that always works, but I cannot get it to connect to any of the servers.

  Can anyone tell me how to get track information from the MusicBrainz database from an audio file (mp3, wav, wma, ogg, etc...) using audio fingerprinting. I'm using MusicBrainz Sharp library, but any other library is ok. I've seen that you must use the libofa library, that you can't use MusicBrainz Sharp to get puid from the audio file, but I can't figure out how to use libofa with C#. Please show some examples and code snippets to help me, because I can't find them anywhere. Thanks in advance!

  I'm currently reading "the red book" for learning OpenGL properly, and in one of the first examples, the author writes a line that says "InitializeAWindowPlease();" as a place holder for the code that will make a window to draw the OpenGL content in. Since I'm using Xcode for my programing, I know that I "get" a window to work with automatically (and that I have to make my own OpenGL view in interfacebuilder). How can I make this with pure code? I'm trying to learn programming, and I'm not to happy about taking "shortcuts" all the time. How can I make a window to draw my openGL stuff in? With Objective-C and C code I would love to see it. My goal is that I can make it without opening interface builder at all:)

• Servlet receives OPTIONS instead of GET requests from jQuery?

  All I want to achieve is to implement a servlet providing a json feed for my fullcalendar application. When I inspect http://arshaw.com/js/fullcalendar/examples/json.html with Bugzilla, I see that GET-requests are sent to receive the json feed. However, when I use this example within my scenario, fullcalendar seems to send OPTIONS-requests. The only difference is that I replaced "events: "json-events.php" with "http://localhost:8080/CalendarServletTest/HelloWorldServlet" (the url of my servlet). What do I miss? Or is this really a bug?

  I'm making a wicket app that can manage some options for a cashdesk app. One of the options is to change the image of a selected Product. The user(manager) can choose from the already present images in the database (SQL) when this option is selected, or add a new image if the desired image is not present. Don't mention the test names and awesome images (it's still in test-fase) I prefer to see the adding of an image achieved by Drag and Drop html5 demo [dnd-upload] (From the desktop into the browser) I'm currently using Wicket-6.2.0 and wicket-dnd 0.5.0 and i can't seem to get this working! All examples I can find are from wicket 2.x or lower. It is possible to use drag and drop in Wicket-6.2, but how do I achieve this? There seems to be some DraggableBehavior in wicket? • Getting the height of text to know fill height as in TCPDF

  I'm trying to go through the code of TCPDF to understand how it calculates the height of the text to be rendered, but it's too much for me to handle without asking. What I want to know: in the PDF from example 5 http://www.tcpdf.org/examples/example_005.pdf it gives the cell a yellow background. I'm guessing that at the basic level, it first draws a box with this fill color, then adds the text, so what method is it calling to get the height of the text to know the height of the box to fill? Anyone knows how to trace this, because doing it by hand and looking through the code isn't working at all for me.

  Whlie reading codes of my group project, I come across many DEFINEs, and some of them seems strange. To generalize it, please look at the following 2 examples. Example 1: #define SNPRINTF(dst, fmt, arg...) snprintf(dst, sizeof(dst), fmt, ##arg) what does "##" means in this circumstance? I've tried to delete both of them, and write codes like "char buf[1024]; SNPRINTF(buf,"%s,%s","abcd","efg");" which produced the same result. So "##" seems no use and no harm to me. Example 2: #define CLOSE(fd) do { \ if (-1 != (fd)) { \ close(fd); \ (fd) = -1; \ } \ } while (0) Necessary to stuff the inner code to the do{}while(0) statement? what's the use? Thanks!
