• ProFTPD mod_tls is not loaded properly?

  The server is running CentOS 5 with DirectAdmin. I am trying to get ProfFTPD work over TLS, however it seems that proftpd is lacking mod_tls support, even though it was compiled with mod_tls. # proftpd -l Compiled-in modules: mod_core.c mod_xfer.c mod_auth_unix.c mod_auth_file.c mod_auth.c mod_ls.c mod_log.c mod_site.c mod_delay.c mod_facts.c mod_ident.c mod_ratio.c mod_readme.c mod_cap.c As you can see there is no mod_tls.c, however, the DirectAdmin configuration file for proftpd suggests that it was built with TLS support: # cat /usr/local/directadmin/custombuild/configure/proftpd/configure.proftpd #!/bin/sh install_user=ftp \ install_group=ftp \ ./configure \ --prefix=/usr \ --sysconfdir=/etc \ --localstatedir=/var/run \ --mandir=/usr/share/man \ --without-pam \ --disable-auth-pam \ --enable-nls \ --with-modules=mod_ratio:mod_readme:mod_tls And all I get when I try to connect over FTPS using FileZilla is: Raspuns: 220 ProFTPD 1.3.3c Server ready. • Can ping device from one computer and not the other

  I've recently been assigned to work on a diagnostic program done in C++ which communicates with a piece of electronic equipment. Our normal scenario involves communicating via an RS232 interface, but I've been asked to make our program work over ethernet, source code having been done in Visual Basic. After much thrashing about trying to get the code to work and continuing to get 10049 Winsock errors when I tried to connect, I tried pinging the switch. From the computer the VB program is running on, I can see the switch via ping, nslookup, tracert, and pathping (I was going down the list of programs) and I can do this via URI or IP address. From my laptop, sending the same commands fails every time. They're both using the same network cable and the same USB-to-Ethernet device (I've been swapping them between tests) but one can see the switch and the other cannot. I'm working on the programming end, but the ping results makes me think that there might be a network issue stymieing me. wry grin I'm not much of a network guy, so I'm appealing to expert assistance. Both computers are running Windows XP if that helps. The connection is to an "IP-RS8" device which then connects to our VCU-C units. Each unit is accessible via URI or IP address on the desktop computer we usually have connected to the units (it's running the older VB program that I was asked to lift the networking code from). The connection is made via a USB-to-Ethernet adapter so as to leave the regular Ethernet port available for connecting to the company network. Hmm... come to think of it, I've probably been confusing the issue, talking about pinging "the switch" rather than indicating that it's the devices. My apologies. Communication is generally done with a DLL that uses Winsock functions to make queries for data from the VCU and then to receive. I'm failing when connecting. I haven't found anything on the firewall which should block these commands, but I'll keep poking. I don't know if it's potentially relevant, but on the desktop, the adapter maps to Local Area Connection 3 while on the laptop, it consistently maps to Local Area Connection 2. • SSH not working over IPSec tunnel (Strongswan)

  I configured a small network on a cloud virtual machine. This virtual machine has a static IP address assigned to eth0 interface that I'll call $EXTIP. mydomain.com points to $EXTIP. Inside, I have some linux containers, that get their ip through DHCP in the Subnet 10.0.0.0/24 (i called the virtual interface nat ). They run some services that can be reached through DNAT. Then I wanted to connect to these containers through an IPSec tunnel, so I configured StrongSwan. ipsec.conf: conn %default dpdaction=none rekey=no conn remote keyexchange=ikev2 ike=######## left=[$EXTIP] leftsubnet=10.0.1.0/24,10.0.0.0/24 leftauth=pubkey lefthostaccess=yes leftcert=########.pem leftfirewall=yes leftid="#########" right=%any rightsourceip=10.0.1.0/24 rightauth=######## rightid=%any rightsendcert=never eap_identity=%any auto=add type=tunnel Everything works fine, IPSec clients get IPs of the 10.0.1.0/24 subnet and can reach the containers subnet. • Mac won't boot into safe mode

  Mac boots fine normally, except when in safe mode. Holding down shift when booting gets me to the progress bar on the grey screen. Progress bar gets about half way before mac reboots. I modified nvram boot-args to get a better look: sudo nvram boot-args="-x -v" It definitely gets through fsck, skips loading kernel extensions (since it's in safe mode), does something with the network interfaces, then this is the last thing it wips through... • How to setup ssh's umask for all type of connections

  I've been searching for a way to setup OpenSSH's umask to 0027 in a consistent way across all connection types. By connection types I'm referring to: sftp scp ssh hostname ssh hostname program The difference between 3. and 4. is that the former starts a shell which usually reads the /etc/profile information while the latter doesn't. In addition by reading this post I've became aware of the -u option that is present in newer versions of OpenSSH. However this doesn't work. I must also add that /etc/profile now includes umask 0027. Going point by point: sftp - Setting -u 0027 in sshd_config as mentioned here, is not enough. If I don't set this parameter, sftp uses by default umask 0022. This means that if I have the two files: -rwxrwxrwx 1 user user 0 2011-01-29 02:04 execute -rw-rw-rw- 1 user user 0 2011-01-29 02:04 read-write When I use sftp to put them in the destination machine I actually get: -rwxr-xr-x 1 user user 0 2011-01-29 02:04 execute -rw-r--r-- 1 user user 0 2011-01-29 02:04 read-write However when I set -u 0027 on sshd_config of the destination machine I actually get: -rwxr--r-- 1 user user 0 2011-01-29 02:04 execute -rw-r--r-- 1 user user 0 2011-01-29 02:04 read-write which is not expected, since it should actually be: -rwxr-x--- 1 user user 0 2011-01-29 02:04 execute -rw-r----- 1 user user 0 2011-01-29 02:04 read-write Anyone understands why this happens? scp - Independently of what is setup for sftp, permissions are always umask 0022. I currently have no idea how to alter this. ssh hostname - no problem here since the shell reads /etc/profile by default which means umask 0027 in the current setup. ssh hostname program - same situation as scp. In sum, setting umask on sftp alters the result but not as it should, ssh hostname works as expected reading /etc/profile and both scp and ssh hostname program seem to have umask 0022 hardcoded somewhere. Any insight on any of the above points is welcome. EDIT: I would like to avoid patches that require manually compiling openssh. The system is running Ubuntu Server 10.04.01 (lucid) LTS with openssh packages from maverick. Answer: As indicated by poige, using pam_umask did the trick. The exact changes were: Lines added to /etc/pam.d/sshd: # Setting UMASK for all ssh based connections (ssh, sftp, scp) session optional pam_umask.so umask=0027 Also, in order to affect all login shells regardless of if they source /etc/profile or not, the same lines were also added to /etc/pam.d/login. EDIT: After some of the comments I retested this issue. At least in Ubuntu (where I tested) it seems that if the user has a different umask set in their shell's init files (.bashrc, .zshrc,...), the PAM umask is ignored and the user defined umask used instead. Changes in /etc/profile did't affect the outcome unless the user explicitly sources those changes in the init files. It is unclear at this point if this behavior happens in all distros.

  I use to ssh to a remote server (no rsa-key, just password). Now the server do not accept the connection any more and throw me this error: ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host While I can google a little to find a fix I can't figure out what went wrong since I haven't touched anything on the machine since last login. Can you help me find the cause? • Sudo asks for password twice with LDAP authentication

  I have Ubuntu 8.04 LTS machine and Windows 2003 AD domain. I have succesfully set up that I can log in with domain username and password, using domain prefix, like "domain+username". Upon login to machine it all works first try, however, for some reason when I try to sudo my logged in user, it asks for the password twice every time when I try sudo. It accepts the password after 2nd time, but not the first time. Once or twice I might think I just keep entering wrong pass the first time, but this is what happens always, any ideas of what's wrong? pam.conf is empty pam.d/sudo only includes common-auth & common-account, and common-auth is: auth sufficient pam_unix.so nullok_secure auth sufficient pam_winbind.so auth requisite pam_deny.so auth required pam_permit.so

• Uploading and Importing CSV file to SQL Server in ASP.NET WebForms

  Few weeks ago I was working with a small internal project  that involves importing CSV file to Sql Server database and thought I'd share the simple implementation that I did on the project. In this post I will demonstrate how to upload and import CSV file to SQL Server database. As some may have already know, importing CSV file to SQL Server is easy and simple but difficulties arise when the CSV file contains, many columns with different data types. Basically, the provider cannot differentiate data types between the columns or the rows, blindly it will consider them as a data type based on first few rows and leave all the data which does not match the data type. To overcome this problem, I used schema.ini file to define the data type of the CSV file and allow the provider to read that and recognize the exact data types of each column. Now what is schema.ini? Taken from the documentation: The Schema.ini is a information file, used to define the data structure and format of each column that contains data in the CSV file. If schema.ini file exists in the directory, Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB provider automatically reads it and recognizes the data type information of each column in the CSV file. Thus, the provider intelligently avoids the misinterpretation of data types before inserting the data into the database. The schema information file, must always named as 'schema.ini'.   2. The schema.ini file must be kept in the same directory where the CSV file exists.   3. The GetConnectionString() is a method that returns a string. This method basically gets the connection string that is configured in the web.config file. The CreateDatabaseTable() is method that accepts two (2) parameters which are the DataTable and the filename. As the method name already suggested, this method automatically create a Table to the database based on the source DataTable and the filename of the CSV file. The LoadDataToDatabase() is a method that accepts three (3) parameters which are the tableName, fileFullPath and delimeter value. This method is where the actual saving or importing of data from CSV to SQL server happend. The codes at BTNImport_Click event handles the uploading of CSV file to the specified location and at the same time this is where the CreateDatabaseTable() and LoadDataToDatabase() are being called. If you notice I also added some basic trappings and validations within that event. Now to test the importing utility then let's create a simple data in a CSV format. Just for the simplicity of this demo let's create a CSV file and name it as "Employee" and add some data on it.   I cant seem to open a new view from an options menu item. The program keeps crashing as it applies the intent and listener to the item. I am just beginning, so please be nice. The current view is mnfsms, and the view I am trying to open is mnfsms_settings. I am developing for 1.5. Could someone please help me get the menu working. The table are innodb and I tried to drop all tables and recreate it the problem remains... EDIT : Well I think I have a start of answer... I change the log level of hibernate to DEBUG and before it crash I have the following log insert into Semspace (name, [...]) values (?, [...]) So it looks like it does not try to insert the idCorpus and as it is not null it uses the default value "0" which does not refers to an existing entry in Corpus table...

• Why are these divs not aligned and space between?

  Why isnt everything aligned? No yellow should be visible and no orange should be visible except for the right side and bottom left where theres space for another image. Basically my images are pretty much aligned to the center (i have other pics not in this example which is easier to see). However in this case when i have 150px height image the 150 width seems start lower. • Samba issue with sharing directories on NTFS/FAT32

  I have some strange problems with Samba server. I am using samba Version 3.5.4 on Ubuntu 10.10. I have two Windows XP machines, one on VirtualBox on Ubuntu and another office laptop. Windows machine on VirtualBox has no issues in accessing the shared folders, but the laptop is not able to access all the shared content. The issue faced on laptop is the following. Shared folders on ext3 drives have no issues in accessing, but the contents shared on NTFS and FAT32 drives (mounted ones) are not accessible. When I try to open the shared folder, it asks for user name and password, but doesn't accept when I provide it. (Even if I provide admin login details). I changed workgroup value to the domain_name in office laptop, but still the problem persists. The server is connected by LAN. On one computer running windows XP I can see the server but are not allowed to acces them. On another computer on the WIFI-net running win7 I cannot see the server at all but I can ping the server and I can see the smb-protocoll is running when sniffing with wireshark. I don't primarily want to use passwords, computers on the lan and wifi should be able to connect without any login-procedure. I'm sure my config is not sufficient but have hard to understand how I should do. Theres a lot of descriptions on the net but most is old and none have been of any help. I'm also confused by the fact that I can not se the sever on my win7-machine even though it communicates with the samba-server. Would be very happy if anyone could spread some light over this mess.

• bluetooth daemon not running at startup

  I'm trying to connect a bluetooth mouse to my Xubuntu system using Blueman (v. 1.21) Problem seems to be bluetoothd not running at startup, so blueman refuses to start, only a dialog appears: "Bluez daemon is not running, blueman-manager cannot continue." On my system, bluetoothd will run only as root (sudo), so my current workaround is simply to sudo bluetoothd manually, which works fine but id like to have it run at startup so that my mouse is just working without any interaction from me, if possible. If i try to start bluetoothd as non-root it reports: Bluetooth deamon 4.91 Unable to get on D-Bus In the startup scripts i found the same bluetoothd script in all runlevels and init.d: DAEMON=/usr/sbin/bluetoothd test -f /usr/sbin/bluetoothd || exit 0 # bluetoothd normally starts up by udev rules. it needs dbus to function, log_progress_msg "bluetoothd" pkill -TERM bluetoothd || true log_progress_msg "bluetoothd" I looked in /etc/udev/rules.d/ but no reference to bluetoothd. Further i have already tried with no luck: Editing /etc/dbus-1/system.d/bluetooth.conf to include my user (essentially copying the part that was for root): I tried it while both keeping the root policy and without, still, no luck! Editing /etc/pam.d/common-session and /etc/pam.d/gdm to include the line: session optional pam_ck_connector.so In the case of common-session it was already there but with a "nox11" which i tried removing. No luck no luck. Btw, I'm confused as to which session manager I'm using, since i have both xfce4-session and gdm-session-worker running. Anyways, hope someone is savvy enough to figure it out or bring some hints, otherwise i sincerely apologize for wasting your time!   I want to create a Public folder that has full RW access. The problem with my configuration is that Windows users have no issues as guests (they can RW and Delete), my Ubuntu client can't do the same. We can only write and read, but not create or delete. I changed all the users so they are all members of the same groups (all three users are admins anyway). I only ever have one user connected at a time. • Samba issue with sharing directories on NTFS/FAT32 (Mounted Drives) ???

  Hi guys, I have some strange problems with Samba server. I am using samba Version 3.5.4 on Ubuntu 10.10. I have two windows-xp machines, one on VirtualBox on Ubuntu and another office laptop. Windows machine on VBox has no issues in accessing the shared folders, but the laptop is not able to access all the shared content. The issue faced on laptop is = Shared folders on Ext3 drives have no issues in accessing, but the contents shared on NTFS and FAT32 drives (mounted ones) are not accessible. When I try to open the shared folder, it asks for user name and password, but doesn't accept when I provide it. (even if I provide admin login details!!!). I changed workgroup value to the domain_name in office laptop, but still the problem persists... Here is the smdb.conf I am using... • problems establishing ssh connection

  since two days I am facing a really weird problem. I have receantly installed ubuntu server 14.04 LTS on a workstation. It has a fix IP address, which I can successfully ping from other computers in the network. But when I try to establish a ssh connection from a windows computer via putty I get some strange errors, which I cannot fix. The Problem is that putty takes a really long time trying to establish a connection. After about 10 seconds I get the following error: Network error: Software caused connection abort But when I click the Restart Session option a several times after putty shows the error message, I can login in. But now comes the other problem. When the login appears on the putty console I type in the user, but it really takes a long time until I can type in the password to login. This is what I already tried: sshd: ALL in etc/hosts.allow commented line session optional pam_motd.so in etc/pam.d/login and etc/pam.d/sshd configured the firewall with: sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport ssh -j ACCEPT checked if ssh server is listening on port 22 UseDNS no in etc/ssh/sshd_config I hope someone can help me, because this problem is really annoying.   I'm attempting to setup Mono/ASP.NET 4.0 on my Apache server (which is running on Ubuntu). Thus far, I've been following a few tutorials/scripts supplied here, and here. As of now: Apache 2.2 is installed (accessible via 'localhost') Mono 2.10.5 is installed However, I'm struggling to configure Apache correctly... apparently the Virtual Host setting isn't doing its job and invoking the mod_mono plugin, nor is it even pulling source from the proper directory. While the Virtual Host setting points to '\srv\www\localhost', it clearly is pulling content instead from 'var/www/', which I've found is the default DocumentRoot for virtual hosts. I can confirm: "/opt/mono-2.10/bin/mod-mono-server4" exists. Virtual hosts file is being read, since undoing the comment in the main httpd.conf changed the root directory from 'htdocs' to 'var/www/' The Mono installation is at least semi-capable of running ASP 4.0, as evidenced by running XSP, navigating to 0.0.0.0:8080/ and getting an ASP.NET style error page with "Mono ASP 4.0.x" at the bottom. Can anyone point out how to fix these configurations and get Mono linked up with Apache?
