It's possible to remove annoying upstart services which you do not want by removing the appropriate file in /etc/init/blah.conf However, this seems a heavy handed approach. How do you correctly configure upstart to be able to selectively turn these services on and off via the command line?   • E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on libattr1 ? in Ubuntu

    I am working with Ubuntu latest version. While installing via apt-get install i tried to abort that by pressing Ctrl+Z. It terminate successfully ;). But next time when i tried to use apt-get, i got some error "lock" and "temporally unavailable" something like that and **I unfortunately i delete the /var/lib/dkpg folder.** after that i cant install anything from apt-get, getting an error. E: Internal Error, Could not perform immediate configuration (2) on libattr1 so how can i solve this issue?

    I have recently started using UBUNTU. I am wondering about the point of installing antivirus programs. on SU, I found the opinion that it only detects "windows viruses" and removes them. Is there a point in installing antivirus if I don't have any other OS? As far as I know, there are no viruses for linux, what about malvare and any other harmful programs? Is it safe not t install any protecting software?

It works fine, but I can't set the resolution to anything higher than 1600 x 1200, whereas my screen is 1920x1080. Here's my system specifications: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3632QM CPU @ 2.20GHz AMD Radeon 7650 VGA 8 Gb RAM DDR3 Moreover, if I try to enhable 3D acceleration in the settings of my guest, when I expand to full screen it aborts... For example, Empathy minimizes to the system tray (mail icon) when the close button is pressed in the application window. How do I make Evolution do this as well? Essentially I would like to have Evolution hidden in the system tray instead of having to re-launch it every ten minutes to check for new messages (or leave it open and clutter the taskbar).

    I looked at all the other posts on this but can't find the directories mentioned (~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Bookmarks, it's a JSON file.). Being a 2 day Newbie to Ubuntu/Linux I would like to know if the location has changed in the latest version or if not how I locate the directory indicated. I have logged in as root and searched for the folder and can't find it although I imported my bookmarks from a html file so I know that they must be saved somewhere.

    I can't find clear answers / methods on this. As seen elsewhere, passenger and RoR under apache gobble up ram on my VPS. I've tried a multitude of stacks and implementations, currently resting on a sub optimal apache/cgi/rails configuration, which has swapped my ram usage for CPU time and slow response to requests. Can anyone recommend an efficient and preferably simple to administer method of setting up rails apps in ubuntu 10.04 server?
