  • Google App Engine - Document Editor Creation/Tap Into Google Docs?

    What is the best way to create a custom document editor in GAE? I'm making a website meant for a School Robotics Club (With support for any other organization - DRY). We currently use Google services for online collaboration, I'm wondering if there is a way to tap into Google Docs and allow users to edit a Google Document without using Google Accounts or the Google Doc interface. If that is not possible (I've researched and I don't think it is), what is the best way to make a document editor? I want it completely on the website I'm creating, so I'm assuming just some javascript editor like TinyMCE + Ajax + Datastore. Is their anything that replicates Google Doc's/Microsoft Offices's/OpenOffice.org's feature set as far as fonts, spacing, alignment, justification, etc.?

  • Is it worth investing time in learning to use emacs?

    Right up front: I do not want to start a religious war. I've used vi for as long as I can remember, and the few times I've tried to pick up emacs I've been so lost so quickly I've given up. Lots of people find emacs very powerful, however. Its programmability is somewhat legendary. I'm primarily doing Solaris+Java development, and I'd like to ask a simple question: will my productivity increase if I invest time in getting my head around emacs? Is the functionality that it offers over vim going to be paid back in productivity increases in a reasonable timeframe? Repeat: I don't want a "my editor is better than yours". I just want a yes or no answer as to whether it's worth investing the time or not. Will my productivity really increase?

  • zlib gzgets extremely slow?

    I'm doing stuff related to parsing huge globs of textfiles, and was testing what input method to use. There is not much of a difference using c++ std::ifstreams vs c FILE, According to the documentation of zlib, it supports uncompressed files, and will read the file without decompression. I'm seeing a difference from 12 seconds using non zlib to more than 4 minutes using zlib.h This I've tested doing multiple runs, so its not a disk cache issue. However that it seems that the exclamation character (!) has special significance in the program, and so does not come out in script mode.     Is there some cool Moria like theme for Visual Studio 2010? Mine is highlighting gray font with gray background! I just can't configure it on Tools-Options-Environment-Fonts and Colors menu. Visual Studio doesn't seem to show an item for this "highlighting keyword/tag system". You select a variable on variable called myVar, and it highlights all with the same name but with a grayer color and gray background. I just can't read it and can't set it.

    I have a long string and a set of <end-index, string> list like the following: long_sentence = "This is a long long long long sentence" indices = [[6, "is"], [8, "is a"], [18, "long"], [23, "long"]] An element 6, "is" indicates that 6 is the end index of the word "is" in the string. I want to get the following string in the end: >> print long_sentence This .... long ......... long sentence" I tried an approach like this: temp = long_sentence for i in indices: temp = temp[:int(i[0]) - len(i[1])] + '.'*(len(i[1])+1) + temp[i[0]+1:] While this seems to be working, it is taking exceptionally long time (more than 6 hours on 5000 strings inside a 300 MB file). Is there a way to speed this up?

The random class will generate 10 letters from a-z and within 10 letter, minimum 2 letters must be a vowels. Scenario 2: When the player 1 and player 2 form a word from A-Z, he will score some points. There will be a score for each letter. I have already assigned the values for A-Z.   • How to extract a single function from a source file

    Hi, I'm working on a small academic research about extremely long and complicated functions in the Linux kernel. I'm trying to figure out if there is a good reason to write 600 or 800 lines-long functions. For that purpose, I would like to find a tool that can extract a function from a .c file, so I can run some automated tests on the function. For example, If I have the function cifs_parse_mount_options() within the file connect.c, I'm seeking a solution that would roughly work like: extract /fs/cifs/connect.c cifs_parse_mount_options and return the 523 lines of code(!) of the function, from the opening braces to the closing braces. Of course, any way of manipulating existing software packages like gcc to do that, would be most helpful too.     I have a program that generates and outputs a sequence of simple sample math homework tasks, like: 1 + 1 = ... 3 + 3 = ... 2 + 5 = ... 3 + 7 = ... 4 + 2 = ... a sequence can be quite long, and I'd like to save space when this sequence is printed by converting it as follows: 1 + 1 = ... 3 + 7 = ... 3 + 3 = ... 4 + 2 = ... 2 + 5 = ... that is, wrapping the lines into the two or more columns. I was expecting the column linux utility to do the job using the -c N option witn N=2, however, it still outputs the lines in one column whatever the N is. How would I do the column-ifying of the sequence of lines?

I was wanting to utilize syntax files made for other programs so I could have a large collection already. Example (the value of the byte is 0xD2) : 76543210 bit position 11010010 is 0xD2 Bit 0-3 defines the channel which is 0010b is 0x2 Bit 4-5 defines the controller which is 01b is 0x1 Bit 6-7 defines the port which is 11b is 0x3 I somehow need to get from the byte is 0xD2 to channel is 0x2, controller is 0x1, port is 0x3 I googled allot and found the functions pack/unpack, vec and sprintf. But I'm scratching by head how to use the functions to achieve this. Any idea how to achieve this in Perl ?
