  • Split Internet Explorer into Dual-Panes

    If you have a wide screen monitor then you may want to make better use of Internet Explorer’s browser window area. Now you can split the browser window into dual-panes as needed with the IE Split browser plugin. Note: Requires .NET Framework 2.0 or higher (link provided below). IE Split in Action If you are using an older version of this software here is something to keep in mind before upgrading to the 2.0 release. Once you have installed IE Split you will notice a new toolbar added to your browser. As seen here, you can condense it down tightly and access it using the drop-down bar. A closer look at the drop-down bar. Notice the address bar…this will be for the left pane when you split the browser window. Here is our browser split into dual-panes. There are two address bars and two tab/title bars each corresponding to their appropriate pane. It may look slightly backwards at first but is not hard to get used to. A better view of the left pane with the IE Split navigation & title bars showing. Note: The title bar can be hidden if desired. And the right pane. You can also have multiple “split” tabs open if needed. There is nothing quite like getting double the value for the same amount of space. When you no longer need dual-panes open just click on the “x” to close IE Split down. All back to normal again. Conclusion While might not be for everyone this can still be useful for those who need side-by-side access to websites without using multiple separate windows.   • How to get multiple open-source projects to use a standard way of doing something.

    Problem In the last couple weeks, I've used 3 different "repository" tools (listed in alphabetical order): gradle ivy maven I'm calling them "repository" tools because I've also used sbt -- which fortunately uses ivy to manage it's cache or local repository. Each of these tools will create it's own repository. The defaults are: ~/.m2/repository for maven ~/.gradle/cache ~/.ivy2/cache Why can't they all use the same cache? Goal I'd like to change the world so that all three build tools could use the same cache. I'm looking for advice about issues I'm likely to run into and smart ways to get around them. By "use the same cache", I do not mean "retrieve from another build tool's cache". I mean "retrieve from and store in another build tool's cache". While I could go ahead and submit issues to the three projects, I know from experience (as a developer on an open source project), that if you want something done, you're best off getting it done yourself. Also, it seems like I need to get all 3 communities on board to some degree. What is the recommended approach for getting this kind of thing done? How do I approach the different communities? Do I work on patches for the 3 different projects, or would it be better off to create my own "interface" project that deals with these issues and have the 3 tools interface with that? Is this a standards question that I need to address on that front? Lastly, if I'm missing something and this is possible (in an globally configurable fashion), then please let me know.

  • Why I Love Microsoft Development

    I've been writing software for a while and recently had an opportunity to broaden my horizons and start developing for iOS. We decided to leverage, as much as possible, our existing skills and use MonoTouch and MonoDevelop by Novell.    For those of you who do not know, Mono is a .NET port originally designed for Linux but adapted for other platforms as well. MonoTouch is a port specifically for building iOS applications using the .NET framework. MonoDroid is a port (in CTP-esque release) for Android.   A MISSING COMPONENT - VISUAL DESIGNER   MonoDevelop lacks one very significant component compared with other tools I am using: NO VISUAL DESIGNER. Instead of using an integrated visual designer, MonoDevelop shells to the Mac OS "Interface Builder".  Since MonoDevelop lets me have a "Visual Studio-esque" feel *and* I get to use C#, AND it's FREE, I am gladly willing to overlook this.  In fact, it's not even a question.  Free?  Sure, I'll take it with no Visual Designer.   In my experiences I've grown from UNIX and DOS to .NET development through many steps. Java/JSP/Servlets; Windows; Web; etc. I've been doing .NET for quite a few years and I guess I just got "comfortable" with the tools.   WHY AM I NOT GETTING IT?   Interface Builder (IB) is amazingly confusing for me. I had the opportunity to speak at the Northern VA Code Camp on 12/11/2010. My presentation was "Getting Started with iOS Development using MonoTouch and C#".    At the visual design part of the presentation, I asked one of the 3 or 4 Mac developers in the room about my confusion with the IB. I don't understand why the "Classes" list includes objects. I don't understand what "File's Owner" is. And, most importantly, WHAT THE HECK IS AN OUTLET AND WHY IS IT NECESSARY?!?!?"   His response to these question (especially Outlets): "They did it wrong."   I'm accustom to a visual designer that creates variables for graphical widgets for me. Not IB. Instead, I have to create "Outlets" manually. I still do not understand why and, the explanation from a seasoned Mac developer is that it's wrong. (He received nods of confirmation from the other Mac devs in the room.)   I LOVE MS DEV   I love development for Microsoft platforms using Microsoft development tools. I love Windows 7. I love Visual Studio 2010. I love SQL Server. Azure, Entity Framework, Active Directory, Office, WCF/WF/WPF, etc. are all designed with integration in mind. They are also all designed with developers in mind.   Steve Ballmer recently ranted "It's the developers!" That's why it is relatively quick to build apps using MS tools. Clearly, MS knows that while we usually enjoy building technology solutions, we are here to make money. And we need tools that accelerate our time to market without compromising the power and quality of our solutions.   So, yeah, I am sucking up I guess. But I love Microsoft Development. Thank you, Microsoft, for providing the plethora of great development tools.    P.S. (but please slow down a bit…I'm having trouble keeping up!)

    There is many tool exist to debug JavaScript visual studio , firebug and some other great plugin are one of them. here I show you solution for Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object doesn't support this property or method  if you search on Google for how to debug Javascript in Visual studio. all of them told you to follow this instruction :- go to Internet option in IE > advanced tab > Browsing section > uhcheck the both option disable script debugging for IE (internet explorer) disable script debugging (others). that’s the information you read are outdate or not true these days. in visual studio you can play with JavaScript debugging even these option is check or unchecked. off-course you  can try these step in express version of visual studio. I found a little problem that my code [based on jQuery plugin] try to call some function. some of them not implement in browser so they call other so that’s fine and work in every browser. when visual studio found some function they trying to call and not implemented in browser I use to debug they tell me Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object doesn't support this property or method  they tell me again whenever I put refresh [f5] in browser. so the thing they do you never like that. see error window first whenever code is not buggy and see everytime before see the page you want to see. this behavior harsh you. there is no problem whenever you not commonly used IE but whenever you really want to debugging you got some pain too from the behavior of this. well I have some patch for that if you really like the debugging in Visual studio with IE. so if you sure that code is not buggy or you really not want to see that’s window here is trick. when you debug the JavaScript in IE choose the compact mode and they never force you to see window first who tell the thing you not want to see. How to do that for reliefs from this pain in visual studio after debug the project or website IE gone automatically launch. go to Developer tool by pressing f12 > you see window something like this:- by the way they give you document mode IE 7 as default or browser mode based on your settings. first thing is that you need to set the compact view [any ] in browser mode. and next time the error window never come again who tell you Microsoft JScript runtime error: Object doesn't support this property or method

  • How to open the JavaScript console in different browsers?

    Updated on October 7th 2012 Chrome: Press either CTRL + SHIFT + J to open the "Console" tab of the Developer Tools. Alternative method: Press either CTRL + SHIFT + I or F12 to open the Developer Tools. Press ESC (or click on "Show console" in the bottom right corner) to slide the console up. Note: In Chrome's dev tools, there is a "Console" tab. However, a smaller "slide-up" console can be opened while any of the other tabs is active. Safari: Press CTRL + ALT + I to open the Web Inspector. See Chrome's step 2. (Chrome and Safari have pretty much identical dev tools.) Note: Step 1 only works if the "Show Develop menu in menu bar" check box in the Advanced tab of the Preferences menu is checked! IE9: Press F12 to open the developer tools. Click the "Console" tab. Firefox: Press CTRL + SHIFT + K to open the Web console. or, if Firebug is installed (recommended): Press F12 to open Firebug. Click on the "Console" tab. Now users could allegedly download a much smaller installer, and only install the client tools without having to install an instance of SQL Server Express. While the latter is true, the former remains a pipe dream.   • Shifting from no-www to www and browsers' password storage

    I created a website having user-registration system and invited my friend to join it. I gave him the link of no-www version: http://mydomain.com but now after reading this and this, I want to shift to www.mydomain.com. But there's a problem. I saw that my browser is storing separate passwords for mydomain.com and www.mydomain.com. So in my friend's browser his password must have been stored for no-www. That means after I shift to www and next time he opens the login page, his browser wouldn't auto-fill the username and password fields and there will also be an extra entry (of no-www) in his browser's database of stored passwords. Can this be avoided? Can I do something that will convey to browsers that www.mydomain.com and mydomain.com are the same website? I already have a CNAME record for www pointing to mydomain.com but it seems that search engines consider CNAME as alias but browsers consider them as different websites, I don't know why.

  • Can't start webcam for google video services

    I've got Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit and have installed the google video chat plugin. However webcam doesn't seem to work (black screen -- no video at all). For cheese it works but shows really bad (black and white kinda) image. Following some link I installed guvcview if I start it then image looks neat. Any suggestions on how can it be fixed? If it helps I've tried the solution: $ sudo mv /opt/google/talkplugin/GoogleTalkPlugin /opt/google/talkplugin/GoogleTalkPlugin.old $ sudo gedit /opt/google/talkplugin/GoogleTalkPlugin and putting following lines in: #!/bin/sh LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /opt/google/talkplugin/GoogleTalkPlugin.old OR #!/bin/sh LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so /opt/google/talkplugin/GoogleTalkPlugin.old Cause I've both files. Finally $sudo chmod +x /opt/google/talkplugin/GoogleTalkPlugin.old I closed and reopened chrome then started gmail tried video call -- black screen :-/ Ok so today finally google+ provided me with trouble shoot link and advised me: The plug-in won't install If you're having trouble installing the plug-in, or are receiving a message asking you to reinstall it, you should check to make sure your configuration is right. To do so simply: Check to make sure the Google Talk Plugin Video Accelerator and Google Talk NPAPI Plugin are enabled. If you're using Chrome you can type about:plugins in your browser to display your plug-ins. Make sure you're not using Internet Explorer 64-bit (this is a browser version that is 64 bit as opposed to 32 bit). Ensure that you don't have any "click to run" extensions enabled. If you're still experiencing this issue after checking your configuration you can follow these steps: Refresh the browser page. Close any running Google Talk plug-in processes. Close all open and running browser processes. Restart your computer. Uninstall and then reinstall the plug-in. Try a different browser such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. I looked in about:plugins for chrome and firefox: I don't have Google Talk NPAPI Plugin, does that matter? and I thought its installed with google talk plugin or no?

    I am trying to start my webhttrack on ubuntu 12.04 precise pangolin but all i get is the opening screen. When i press any button on the page it gives me the following errors: Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to barney:8081 Suggestions: Try reloading: barney:­8081/­server/­step2.­html i tried to run from a terminal window and get the output here: webhttrack /usr/bin/webhttrack(4405:( launching /usr/bin/x-www-browser /usr/bin/webhttrack(4405:( spawning regular browser..   • Slow on browsing web, but normal when using apt-get

    I have a problem with my fresh instalation of Ubuntu 11.10. The problem happen when i start up my browser and accessing website such google, askubuntu.com, facebook and other sites. frustate on the situation i try watch the progress in system monitor. the result from monitor shows that there is no data transfer when i try to accessing the page. firstly, i assume that it is the trouble from my ISP or my home connection. But it is not. When i try pinging google it shows transaction between my computer and the network but still null from browser. Then i tried to test the aptitude and it was work fine but still the browser won't recieve any packet from the internet. Here is the detail of my tools : Laptop : Toshiba Satellite e205 (network card atheros) Operating System : Ubuntu 11.04 dual booted with Win7 Browser : Mozilla Firefox comes up with the Ubuntu 11.10 installation Chrome : Last version (just yesterday install it) Thank You before :) [this question posted via win]

  • Web Platform Installer issues deploying Azure SDK 1.4 on refreshed systems.

    Recently I have been doing quite a bit of testing on different means to deploy the Azure SDKs and such. After a very successful couple of systems, I started running into issues last night. Here is the problem, if I go to the Windows Azure Website, and go to Develop, then click on the SDK and Tools, then Get Tools & SDK, it launches the Web Platform Installer.  All seems well at that point, except it will go through the initial process, will find the SDK files for 1.4, but since the tools for Visual Studio are still 1.3, the location throws back a 404, which causes the Installer to fail.  NOTE:If you already had SDK 1.3 and the tools in place, it will go through.
