  • What does `const` do when combined with `readonly`?

    The difference between const and readonly is well covered. A const can't be changed and a read only can only be changed in a constructor. But, what happens when you combine the two: public readonly const string how_does_this_behave = "I don't know"; The compiler allows it. But I'm not sure how it behaves from this point on. Thoughts?

My problem is that I use Xml Serialization to create my xml files, but I never use Deserialization.     I'm trying to use StructureMap with nServiceBus. The Project: Uses a GenericHost Endpoint to send command messages Configures nServiceBus using the StructMapBuilder. Uses a simple StructureMap registry config Uses a start up class TestServer supporting IWantToRunAtStartup The TestServer class has ctor dependency on a TestManager class The TestManager class has ctor dependency on IBus ObjectFactory.WhatDoIHave() shows StructureMap knows how to construct the classes. When run I get buildup errors. nServiceBus seems to be overwriting the config? Note that when I add a IBus ctor depenendency to my event handlers without any other config all appears fine. Error: Exception when starting endpoint, error has been logged.     In my naming convention, I use _name for private member variables. I noticed that if I auto-generate a constructor with ReSharper, if the member is a keyword, it will generate an escaped keyword. For example: class IntrinsicFunctionCall { private Parameter[] _params; public IntrinsicFunctionCall(Parameter[] @params) { _params = @params; } } Is this generally considered bad practice or is it OK? It happens quite frequently with @params and @interface.

  • Can a stack have an exception safe method for returning and removing the top element with move seman

    In an answer to a question about std::stack::pop() I claimed that the reason pop does not return the value is for exception safety reason (what happens if the copy constructor throws). @Konrad commented that now with move semantics this is no longer relevant. Is this true? AFAIK, move constructors can throw, but perhaps with noexcept it can still be achieved. For bonus points what thread safety guarantees can this operation supply?

This exposes the dependency being injected and violates the OOP principle of encapsulation. Am I correct in identifying this tradeoff? How do you deal with this issue?
