Is there a better way of doing this without using sed?     I've had a very colorful morning learning the innerparts of Linux's sort command, and have come across yet another issue that I can't seem to find an answer for in the documentation. I'm currently using -t, to indicate that my fields are split by the comma character, but I'm finding that in some of my files, the comma is used (between double-quotes) within values: Jonathan Sampson,,[email protected],0987654321 "Foobar CEO,","CEO,",[email protected],, How can I use a comma to terminate my fields, but ignore the occurences of it within values? Is this fairly simple, or do I need to re-export all of my data using a more-foreign field-terminator?

  • 127.0.0.1 is working but localhost is not working on mac XAMPP

    I installed XAMPP on my mac months ago and was working great. Now i get "Test Page For Apache Installation" when i try to browse /localhost and /localhost/xampp is not found. But when i browse /127.0.0.1 it just works as localhost used to be. I double checked my /etc/hosts file that i have 127.0.0.1 localhost and not commented. Also when i browse localhost/~username/test.php , i get contents of test.php: <?php echo 'ganim'; ?> but if i browse 127.0.0.1/~username/test.php , i get: ganim what could change redirecting of localhost or how can i get localhost work again?

    My situation: I need to send text to an ASP.NET web service using POST. And, to an extent, it has. I have checked - the 'greater than' and 'less than' symbols ('<' and '') are url-encoded properly. However, the server responds with a 500 error. It accepts any other text. Has anyone else come across this sort of problem? Is there some setting on an ASP.NET server that denies html? I can't see this being the case - there is a rich text editor on the website that I am sending requests to. This text editor performs the same request as I am, only I am doing it remotely. The rich text editor sends html to the form - I have checked that, too, using javascript. Note: I do not have the power to modify the ASP.NET server.

    I've been working on a Silverlight application. I just noticed that the .xap file is now four times as big as it was, what could have caused that? Here's some other info: there seems to now be many more language settings in the bin/Release directory I checked "Reduce size of .xap" in under Properties/Silverlight but that just brought it down from 1300 to 1200.   • Manual Duplex for Mac (and/or Linux)

    Hi, my printers don't support automatic duplex printing. I'm looking for a solution for my Mac (BTW, also for Linux) that I've seen with most Windows printer drivers: Check "Manual duplex" in the printer screen Printer starts printing one side A dialog appears, asking me to flip the pages Printer prints the other side. One thing I can do, is "print odd pages", then reopen the dialog and "print even pages", but this is very inconvenient, especially when I only want to print a certain page range of the document (the Mac dialog forgets my previous page range every time). It gets even more inconvenient, when printing 2-up double sided, or when changing additional settings for this one printout. So is there maybe some tool, that can do this? Or maybe a "virtual printer driver" that can sit somewhere between the dialog and the actual printer driver, which manages these steps? (The Windows tool http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FinePrint can do something like that, but I don't need all of its features - and I need it on Mac/Linux) Thanks, Chris

  • Reduce the I/O priority of Windows Backup (Windows Server 2008 R2)

    I have a PostgreSQL running on Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 box. And I have scheduled a backup everyday from the RAID 1 DB disk to a dedicated standalone disk. They are SAS 15k on Dell PERC 6i. I am using the built-in Windows Server Backup for purpose. The problem is, whenever the backup process is kicked in, the database performance is hogged. I would say almost a 10x of performance reduction. From the resource monitor, the disk queue is in the double digit range when backing up, and less than 1 during the day. The disk activity is like ~30-50MB/s during backup, so I guess the hardware is acting normally, though wbengine.exe takes up most of the portions. I think reduce the IO priority of the backup process would be an answer, but I couldn't find a way to. Tuning process CPU priority does not seems to help.

  • Syncing between "kindle for PC" and "kindle for iPhone"

    I have a number of ebooks that I am managing using calibre - E-book management. These books are in a number of various formats (pdf, chm, epub, mobi...etc). I found a blog post that detailed using calibre to convert the ebooks to ".mobi" versions and then, by double-clicking on the converted books, they would be added to my "kindle for PC" library. This worked very well. However, I can't seem to work out how to sync the books I've added to my "kindle for PC" library with my "kindle for iPhone" library. I should also mention that I do not own a kindle, all I'm trying to achieve is to be able to sync the books I've added to "kindle for PC" to "kindle for iPhone". Has anyone managed to do this? thanks.

    When I checkout, checkin, rename soemthing in Vs 2008 SP1 while I have the project open in Expression Blend 3, these changes are not updated in Blend until I close and reopen the solution in blend or I try to checkout/checkin an item that is aready checked out. Is this a known bug? And is there a workaround?

In software vertex processing mode or when using the reference device the clipping plane works fine as expected. In hardware mode it seems to rotate with the camera. If I remove the call to RenderText(); from OnFrameRender then hardware rendering also works fine. Further debugging reveals that the problem is in ID3DXFont::DrawText. I have this issue in Windows Vista and Windows 7 but not in Windows XP. I tested the code with the latest NVidia and ATI drivers in all three OSes on different PCs. Is it a DirectX issue?     I have a Marvell Yukon integrated NIC and i have installed the WOL package on my freeBSD-based NAS. I'm trying to wake my PC using the command "wol M:A:C:A:D:D:R". Command line spits back that it is "waking" however nothing happens. I found no reference to WOL whatsoever in BIOS and i enabled Magic Packet WOL in windows on that interface. Also double-checked MAC addr and that i entered it in the correct format in "wol". I'm on Windows 7. What next? =/

  • Excel 2003 Freezes When Worksheet with PivotTable Selected

    All of the sudden, my Excel 2003 began an odd behavior today. Whenever I click on a worksheet tab that has a PivotTable on it, I become unable to click on any other tabs or on the menu with the options to minimize, maximize, and size at the top left of the worksheet window. I am left unable to click on the other tabs until I double-click inside a cell in the PivotTable worksheet and get a blinking curor as if to type. Then, I can navigate to other tabs normally. I can't think of any major changes I have made to my computer in the last day that would have caused this. I did instiall PC Tools antivirus over a week ago, and since that time have noticed my computer behaving in odd ways, but excel has been just fine until now. Does anyone have any thoughts on what might cause this? Thanks so much.

Now I want to sync windows phones to exchange mailboxes. To achieve this, I need to install the exchange certificate on the windows phone (send it to the phone by mail, double click). So far so good. But, as far as I can see this does only work if the certificate on my exchange server matches the dyndns-url? So I'd like to know: how do I create a self signed certificate for my dyndns-url and install it on exchange?

    It seems "It's me" is the most popular port knocking client for windows… Except… it sucks. It works for console-savvy users such as me, but, unsurprisingly, all my users hate console windows. I know better than to force it upon them. I would love to have a nice port knocker for Windows that would be windowed, have launchers, and be easily provisionable (i.e. I tell my user to paste some settings or import some file by double clicking it). To be honest, just not being console-based would be enough.

  • Const references when dereferencing iterator on set, starting from Visual Studio 2010

    Starting from Visual Studio 2010, iterating over a set seems to return an iterator that dereferences the data as 'const data' instead of non-const. The following code is an example of something that does compile on Visual Studio 2005, but not on 2010 (this is an artificial example, but clearly illustrates the problem we found on our own code). In this example, I have a class that stores a position together with a temperature. I define comparison operators (not all them, just enough to illustrate the problem) that only use the position, not the temperature. To check the correctness of the comparison operator, I add data points with the same position multiple times. When writing the contents of the set, I can clearly see there are only 3 points in the set. The for-loop loops over the set, and sets the temperature. Logically this is allowed, since the temperature is not used in the comparison operators. This code compiles correctly in Visual Studio 2005, but gives compilation errors in Visual Studio 2010 on the following line (in the for-loop): DataPoint &point = *it; The error given is that it can't assign a "const DataPoint" to a [non-const] "DataPoint &". It seems that you have no decent (= non-dirty) way of writing this code in VS2010 if you have a comparison operator that only compares parts of the data members. Possible solutions are: Adding a const-cast to the line where it gives an error Making temperature mutable and making setTemperature a const method But to me both solutions seem rather 'dirty'. It looks like the C++ standards committee overlooked this situation. Or not? What are clean solutions to solve this problem? Did some of you encounter this same problem and how did you solve it?     A colleague sent me a document created with Microsoft Office 2007 that contains equations. On her end, the document looks fine; however, on my end, the equations show up with these funky characters overlaid on them: Why do these weird characters show up, and how do I fix it? The equations appear like this in both .doc and .docx documents. Additionally, when I double-click on the equations to edit them, I get a warning that the equations were created with a newer version of the equation editor, and when I close the editing window, the equations are gone completely. I think this might indicate a compatibility problem, but I am not sure of a solution.
