  • Mixing application modules between Silverlight and ASP.NET

    Background: I work in a suite of ASP.NET applications that have several different "modules". The applications all share a main menu, so they all link to one-another. The modules are the high-level areas of the application. So, for example, it might be Payments, Orders, Customers, Products, etc. And Payments and Orders are in one app and Products and Customers are in another. Some of these menu links are "deep links", for example it might be a link to a particular page within the Customers module, such as Create New Customer. The issue: We are about to start a project that will add several more modules to this suite, probably as a new .NET application. I'm thinking about doing these new modules in Silverlight (for various reasons that are not material to the question). If I were to do that, I need to make the menu look the same as the menu in ASP.NET, as the users still need to feel like they are inside one "application". My questions: How should I organize the Silverlight project(s) so that I can "deep link" from ASP.NET pages into particular modules in the Silverlight app? What is even the best idea for creating these different Silverlight "modules"? If I had something that would've been a page in ASP.NET (for example - Create Customer), should each one of those be a separate Silverlight app? Or should it be a separate User Control? Or something else? Should I reuse our shared ASP.NET menu, and deep link to different Silverlight "modules" even within the new application? Or should I reimplement the menu in Silverlight for navigation within the app? Are there menu controls for Silverlight that look similar to ASP.NET menus (with flyout submenus in this case)? Could I maybe even share a SiteMap XML file between them? Edit: After looking around a bit more, it seems like PRISM might be the answer for some of my issues. It would allow me to modularize the different chunks of Silverlight that I have. And it would allow me to define a "master page" in Silverlight where I could host the menu. Do I have this right?

  • Django FileField not saving to upload_to location

    I have an Attachment model that has a FileField in a Django 1.4.1 app. This FileField has a callable upload_to parameter which, per the Django docs should be called when the form (and therefore the model) is saved. When I run FormTest below, the upload_to callable is never called and the file therefore does not appear in the location provided by the upload_to method. What am I doing wrong? Notice that in the passing tests in ModelTest (also below), the upload_to method works as expected.   • Connection Refused running multiple environments on Selenium Grid 1.04 via Ubuntu 9.04

    Hello, I'm writing a selenium grid test suite which is going to be run on a series of different machines. I wrote most of it on my macbook but have recently transfered it over to my work machine, which is running ubuntu 9.04. That's actually my first experience with a linux machine, so I may be missing something very simple (I have disabled the firewall though). I haven't been able to get the multienvironment thing working at all, and I've been trying and manual reviewing for a while. Any recommendations and help would be greatly, greatly appreciated!     I'm trying to test that I'm throwing an exception when appropriate. In my test class I have a method similar to the following: public void testParseException() { try { ClientEntitySingleton.getInstance(); fail("should have thrown exception."); } catch (RuntimeException re) { assertEquals( "<exception message>", re.getMessage()); } } This works fine (green bar) whenever I run that single unitTest class. However, when I add that test to a testSuite, I get a red bar Unit test failure reported on the exception. One more thing... it works in the testSuite, if it's the first test in the suite. Actually, I'm doing two of these tests and just figured out that if I make them the first two tests in the suite, all is good, but I get this failure if a "regular" test precedes it. So I have a work-around, but no real answer. Any ideas?     How can I specify a cipher suite to use in an SSL Connections? I know that Mentalis Seclib got this feature however they don't maintain the project as they say .NET Framework 2.0 introduced those features. However I couldn't find a way to do this in .NET Framework 3.5. To be more specific I want to connect an HTTPS service by using NULL cipher, I would do the same thing with OpenSSL by using the following command: openssl s_client -connect www.example.com:443 -cipher NULL How can I do this in .NET?

  • When to use WYSIWYG Editors?

    It appears to me, from searching stackoverflow, that hand coding html/css is superior to using WYSIWYG editors. I'm a few weeks into learning html and css, and I've only hand-coded so far (though I do have the Adobe Suite). My questions: is it ever worth learning how to use a WYSIWYG editor (like dreamweaver)? And, more importantly, when would it be better to use it over handcoding?

  • GWT now has spring roo support, what will this mean to GWT developers?

Recently there was an announcement that GWT will support Spring Roo and SpringSource Tool Suite (http://googlewebtoolkit.blogspot.com/2010/05/gwt-21-milestone-1-is-now-available.html). I am having trouble seeing the big picture from the Google announcement page. For those without much knowledge of Spring what does this mean for GWT developers used to building swing-like gui's?

  • Using Python, what's the best way to create a set of files on disk for testing?

    I'm looking for a way to create a tree of test files to unit test a packaging tool. Basically, I want to create some common file system structures -- directories, nested directories, symlinks within the selected tree, symlinks outside the tree, &c. Ideally I want to do this with as little boilerplate as possible. Of course, I could hand-write the set of files I want to see, but I'm thinking that somebody has to have automated this for a test suite somewhere. Any suggestions?

  • is it possible to change the query parameters in REST API from script editor in SOAPUI?

    i am doing load test on this REST API using SOAPUI. http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/xml?address=1600+Amphitheatre+Parkway,+Mountain+View,+CA&sensor=false i ve successfully setup the testsuite and all. my doubt is is it possible to change the query parameters in the REST API url by passing values from the script editor(either javascript or groovy) for the test suite when i perform test? if so, how should i write the script? Hope I am clear with my ques.
