• Getting Started With nServiceBus on VAN Mar 31

  Topic: nServiceBus is mature and powerful open source framework that enables to design robust, scalable, message-based, service-oriented architectures. Latest improvements in the configuration API enables developers to quickly get started and build a working simple system that uses messaging infrastructure. The goal of this session is to give a jump start with the framework, introduce basic concepts such as message handlers, Sagas, Pub/Sub, Generic Host and also create a working demo application that uses publish/subscribe messaging. The content of the session is addressed to developers that are interested in learning how to get started using nServiceBus in order to design and build distributed systems. Bio: Bernard Kowalski is currently a Software Developer at Microdesk, one of Autodesk's leading partners in providing variety of Geospatial and Computer-Aided Design solutions. Bernard has experience developing .NET framework-based applications utilizing Windows Forms, Windows Services, ASP.NET MVC, and Web services. In a recent project, Bernard architected and implemented a distributed system based on SOA principles using an open source implementation of an Enterprise Service Bus. Bernard develops software with Agile patterns and practices using Domain Driven Design combined with TDD (Test Driven Development). He is familiar with all of the following APIs: Autodesk Vault/Product Stream API, AutoCAD ActiveX/VBA/.NET API, AutoCAD Mechanical API, Autodesk Inventor API, Autodesk MapGuide Enterprise. Prior to joining Microdesk, Bernard worked as a researcher and teacher at the University of Science and Technology in Krakow, Poland where he was awarded with a PhD in Computer Methods in Materials Science. He also participated in research projects where he developed applications for analysis of hot compression test results using advanced optimization techniques. • SOCharts: Charts by Tags

  Screenshot I created this small app as a weekend hack. It shows the reputations, upvotes, downvotes and accepted answers for a user against the tags for the answers. About I wanted to know how may upvotes I was away from getting the bronze badge for the clojure tag. But I could not find any straightforward way of doing that. So I wrote this app (in Clojure, of course). The SO API is used for the data and the charts are created using the Google Chart API. The charts are opened in the default browser. License Licensed under EPL 1.0. Download If you have Clojure and Leiningen installed, you can simply get the code from https://gist.github.com/725331, save it as socharts.clj and then run lein repl -e "(load \"socharts\")(refer 'socharts.socharts)(-main)" for launching the Swing UI If you don't have Clojure installed, but have Java then download the standalone jar from http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5247/socharts-1.0.0-standalone.jar and run it as javaw -jar socharts-1.0.0-standalone.jar Once the UI is launched, just type your user id in the input box and press <ENTER>. It will take some time to download the data from the SO API (the progress bar shows the download progress) and then it will open the charts in your default browser. You can also run it as a command line app by running lein repl -e "(load \"socharts\")(refer 'socharts.socharts)(-main <userid>)" or java -jar socharts-1.0.0-standalone.jar <userid> where you replace <userid> with your user id. Be warned that because of a missing feature in the SO API, it will fetch the data for each question you have answered. So the maximum limit is 10000 answers (the SO API call limit). • ROA on top of SOA

  I already have a stable Service Oriented Architecture for my application which exposes services as API calls. (the verbs) Now, I need to build a Resource Oriented Architecture to expose a RESTful API to interact with the application objects. (the nouns) What are the best practices to reuse the existing services: - without any persistence inside my new code. - without putting unnecessary logic into the REST layer i.e. it should ideally just leverage the services provided by SOA API. I want this layer to be as thin as possible. - without modifying the existing SOA API - allow easy extension of the REST API i.e. it should be easy to add more resources without changing the (yet to be written) core code. (I want to make resource names and their associated actions configurable so more contributors can easily add resources without a need to understand my module) Any advices/suggestions how to achieve this? Edit: Adding more info My Stack: My existing stacks is in Java. But since I plan to just use the services, I don't think that should affect the design of new REST code. I am planning to implement the new REST code in PHP. How well the services map to resources? Some services are mapped well i.e. there are services for creating, updating application objects. But for other application objects, there are no direct services available. More importantly, there are actions beyond just create, update etc. that apply to application objects. And I would like to provide some way for these actions to be exposed through REST. Since these are verbs, how do I deal with them? Where exactly I need help? I would appreciate any help towards high level design to accomplish the task along-with making the framework extendible. For instance, tomorrow there are some new services added to my SOA layer, I want to make sure it is easy for a fresh developer to write a REST call by simply registering a new resource (in a config file/db) and write code for connecting it with SOA calls. • mythbuntu 12 - lirc device doesn't appear to even exist

  I'm trying to get a new installation of Mythbuntu working. So far, everything is OK except the remote. The sensor for the remote is on my Hauppauge WinTV HVR 1250. Any suggestions on how to fix or further diagnose this?

• java+netbeans+mysql+ubuntu 64 bits LTS VS C#+MS SQL for fast develop trading system

  I am going to build a trading system and use with the broker "Interactive Broker" API. The API supports C++ Socket, Java Socket, DDE, Active X APIs in Windows. The API supports Java Socket API, Posix C++ Socket API in Unix kind like Ubuntu. My trading system has some real time long calculations to do and a lot of maths for backtest. I am using a retail trading program Amibroker which is written in C++ and I run it in windows xp 32 bits, it will take me days to do one serious backtest with my G620 Sandy Bridge CPU and 3GB of ram. So for my trading system, I need to have 1. speed, 2. stability, 3. fast development I have done some research, C++ is fastest but I am not good at it and it takes much longer time to develop. Other than C++, Java in linux has the best speed. I also did some research for database and look like mysql has the best speed. Mysql and PostgreSQL both are very popular open source sql db, which one should I choose? I see MySQL has Workbench now which looks like similar to MS SQL management studio so look like a good start. Netbeans should be the most popular Java IDE now and seem like its GUI design can be as easy as Virtual Studio now. I am not sure if made by Netbeans would affect the speed and if its GUI design is really that good and easy to use. Ubuntu 64 bits LTS has good long term support, good community support, and stable. I will buy a new computer if I can create a good trading system for live trading and backtest. Very likely I will buy a I7 or I5 depends on if I7 can really have better speed for my case. Actually I mainly deal with C# in my jobs and I just knew java but not good at java. What would you guys recommend? Any better solution? This will be a big project and very likely life long project for me so I seriously do research including asking you guys before I start and focus on what I should, thanks!

• Blackberry Development, adding dynamic number of buttons and setting Fieldchangelistener() for them

  Hi, I am adding dynamic number of buttons in a Blackberry application and trying to get different events on each button click. I am not able to apply the setchangelistener() for these array of buttons as once the loop finishes after adding all the buttons, the events gets generated only for the last indexed button. If I make us of getIndex(), it runs fine only if I am not adding any other fields on my screen, but if I add other fields along with these array of buttons, the getIndex() function count them in the indexing as well. Can anyone please help me out in setting FieldChangeListener to array of ButtonField? Here is a sample code of the way I am using the array of ButtonField. • Delay before playing embedded mp3 in Actionscript / Flex 3

  I am embedding an mp3 into my Flex project for use as a sound effect, but I am finding that every time I play it, there is a delay of about half a second from when I call .play() to when you can hear the sound. This makes it weird because I want the sound effects to sync to game events. My mp3 itself is only about a fifth of a second long so it isn't because of the contents of the mp3. I'm embedding with [Embed(source="assets/Tock.mp3")] [Bindable] public static var TockSound:Class; public var tock_sound:SoundAsset; and then playing with if (tock_sound == null) { tock_sound = new TockSound() as SoundAsset; } Alert.show("tock"); tock_sound.play(); I know there's a delay because the sound plays about a half second after the Alert displays. I did consider that maybe it was the initial loading time of constructing the TockSound, but the delay is there on all the subsequent calls as well. How can I avoid this delay on playing a sound? Update: It turns out this delay is only present when playing the swf on Linux. I believe it is a Linux-specific flaw in Adobe's flash player.

  Hi All, I am trying to play two .wav files in my appllication, but i am only able to play the first wav file , the second file is not at all playing. I have added the AudioToolbox framework.   I'm trying to play a background sound for my application, I use SoundPool class, my problem is that, sound plays well only when I set the loop parameter with zero value, but it doesn't work for any other value. My code for initialization is: soundpool = new SoundPool(4, AudioManager.STREAM_MUSIC, 0); soundsMap = new HashMap<Integer, Integer>(); soundsMap.put(1, soundpool.load(this, R.raw.soundfile_1, 1)); soundsMap.put(2, soundpool.load(this, R.raw.soundfile_2, 1)); my code for playing is soundpool.play(1, 0.9f, 0.9f, 1, -1, 1f); as I mentioned sound works when I put (0) instead of (-1) for the loop value, anyone has any idea why (-1) or any value other than (0) doesn't work (there is no output sound) ?

• Using finch first time. How to play mp3,ogg or other formats (wav files to big) ?

  My *.wav's work as expected. But wav files are to big, so I want to play *.mp3 or *.ogg but it doesn't work. I use this lines of code found in the finch Demo project engine = [[Finch alloc] init]; sitar = [[Sound alloc] initWithFile:RSRC(@"sitar.wav")]; [sitar play]; So I only change sitar.wav into my .mp3 filename. Note 1: It mustn't be mp3 or ogg, any file format not as huge as wav should be ok, but which ? Note 2: I didn't know how to use sound, so I searched and found finch here at stackoverflow. It looks easy, so I would like to use that, but if you know some other easy way to play that sound files (ambient + effects sound with compressed codec) I would also switch to that other technique.

  simple synchronous loading of an audio file (.mp3) in a cocos2d app makes my vmware disconnect the sound. the error is display bottom right, saying 'error in creating sound stream; sound is disconnected' i read that it might be cause of my vmware's version (mine is 8) but I'm looking for a fix, not to downgrade to another version. before i get that error, the sound on the system works just fine (youtube, etc) the exact code im calling is.. There's no errors on the JavaScript console so I'm unsure if it's a syntax error, and probably something obvious, but I don't know what. play() is a function I found to play audio, here it is if it matters at all. • Stopping a SoundPlayer loop at the local level

  I'm working on setting up an alarm that pops up as a dialog with multiple sound file options the user can choose from. The problem I'm having is creating a sound player at the local level that I can close with a button. • WordPress: can't access WordPress.com and other external sites?

  Hello, I recently started a WordPress blog using hosting at MyDomain (they offer the application "natively"). The blog works fine, however I have two plugins I can't seem to install correctly. First, the WordPress.com Stats plugin requires the API Key. When I input it, I get the following message: Error from last API Key attempt: Your blog was unable to connect to WordPress.com. Please ask your host for help. (transport error - could not open socket: 110 Connection timed out) Second, the Akismet plugin is not configured. When I go to Akismet page to insert my API key, it has the following message: There was a problem connecting to the Akismet server. Please check your server configuration. I assume the two issues are related... I approached my hosting provider about the subject and all they said is that they don't support WordPress, only provide means to install it. To clarify, up to this point I have only been able to install plugins that don't require an API key. What can I do to diagnose the problem and fix it? As a work-around, are there comparable stats and anti-spam plugins that don't require an API key? Many thanks.

• Nagios returns "No output returned from plugin" running process

  I have a nagios server and a bunch of nagios clients that i currently monitor. All the clients are setup with the following nrpe configuration. check_users, check_load... metrics are successfully displayed on the nagios interface but check_nginx and check_server_proxy displayed as "Unknown"-(No output returned from plugin). As far as i understood nagios simply runs ps command and looks for either the argument strings or the name of the command to verify whether the service is running.
