  Hi! How can I determine/calculate the byte size of a bitmap (after decoding with BitmapFactory)? I need to know how much memory space it occupies, because I'm doing memory caching/management in my app. (file size is not enough, since these are jpg/png files) Thanks for any solutions!

• Setup NTPD in Ubuntu to sync Windows AD

  I am setting up my Ubuntu 10.0.4 server to sync clock with a Windows 2008 AD. As none of the "remote" has a "*" in front (worst it had a blank space in front), does it mean no time sync source is selected? The offset just keep increasing. I heard that it is smaller than 3.5, does that mean if I install .net 4.0, it will decrease the space used by the framework?   I have a Task Scheduler Windows 7 task that invokes firefox.exe on a URL which is an iMacro. Upon completion, the firefox window is left open. I always have firefox running, but it brings up a new window, not sure if this is a new instance of firefox, or a second window. Upon completion of the macro, I'd like the extra window closed. The extra window has a blank tab and a tab for the macro that ran. How can I set up the task to clean up after itself?

  Hello, I have the following problems: First: I am trying to do a 32-spaces bitwise left shift on a large number, and for some reason the number is always returned as-is. For example: echo(516103988<<32); // echoes 516103988 Because shifting the bits to the left one space is the equivalent of multiplying by 2, i tried multiplying the number by 2^32, and it works, it returns 2216649749795176448. Second: I have to add 9379 to the number from the above point: printf('%0.0f', 2216649749795176448 + 9379); // prints 2216649749795185920 Should print: 2216649749795185827

• Windows 8 Login Password Out of Sync with Windows Live ID

  I'm working with a computer that has setup a local account connected under Windows Live ID. The user can login to Live ID (like hotmail) from another computer with the correct credentials. However from the Windows 8 computer using the correct password it indicates. That password is incorrect. Make sure you're using the password for you Mircrosoft Account. You can always reset it at account.live.com/password/reset. Now, I've used NTPASSWD to reset the password, but it seems that since its not a "Local Account" it wont take the new password or blank one. This account also has a "PIN" the user who also has forgotten it. I also tried to enable/password set the local Administrator account but it does not show up for login. Any ideas?

  You know in MS Word, you can write text and draw&put shapes anywhere you want.. in the text when you hit enter and get to a new line, the shapes below your cursor also moves down one line? I want to implement that property in Java on a pane, using components as the shapes and text. How can I provide absolute positioning for shapes but at the same time preserve the space between them? I'll appreciate any idea, cause I'm almost out of ideas.

• Thunderbird: mails not displayed while everything worked a few minutes ago

  Hi all, I upgraded my Kaspersky and I closed everything before launching the upgrade process. Everything went well, but when I launched my Thunderbird, no mail and content were displayed. Everything is blank. Strangely my accounts are detected when expanding Tools/Account Settings. I completely closed Kaspersky and launched Thunderbird again, but it fixed nothing :( It is as if closing Thunderbird has damaged a core file. Any idea how to fix it? Thanks. Roland

I can remove a selected item if I click on the space around the x button but if I go straight to clicking the button before clicking the item it will only erase the last selected item. ideas?

• ls returns nothing only in certain directories

  I have a raid drive mounted here: /data/ And certain directories like this one: /data/somedir/somesubdir/ when I run ls w/ or w/o any flags, terminal doesn't return anything. It does not return an empty directory listing. It simply goes to the next line and sits there blank with no prompt coming up. I cannot CTRL-C out of it. I have to close this terminal instance and start over. At first I thought it was something to do with the ls command, but its pointing to /bin/ls and I can ls other directories just fine. Also, running this find /data/somedir/somesubdir immediately finds all the files just as expected.

  I'm trying to install FreeBSD on VirtualBox in my Ubuntu 11.10 . When I try to download the packages via FTP, the systems fails to correctly configure the DHCP. There are two possible behaviors, randomly picked every time I retry: The DHCP is almost correctly configured, except my host is .fastwebnet.it rather than the real namehost.fastwebnet.it . Whenever I try to add something before the . , the system edit the field and revert it to .fastwebnet.it Only the netmask is configured, everything else is blank. I can't edit the fields. I tried both with NAT and Bridged adapter in my VirtualBox settings.

  Hi, I'm Running Mysql on ubuntu 9.10, the process of Mysql is running as root, I'm using root account when logging to Mysql, which I gave all privileges, I'm using my own db(not mysql), I can create a table, but when i try to create Temporary table i get this error: ERROR 1005 (HY000): Can't create table 'tmp' (errno: 13) For this query: CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE tmp (id int); I've plenty of space in my hard drive, all permissions are granted(also var/lib/mysql have mysql permissions). • How to remap media keys on laptop,without external programs?

  As on most laptops, my laptop has "special" keys, or media keys, as they are sometimes called. On Linux, I can easily read keycodes with things like xev, put other functions back to it. Either with xmodmap or by simply giving the keys functions in my window manager. How is that possible on Windows? Is there even a way to scan those keys and remap them? Possibly even give them different functions as on Linux? If so, where do I do that? I heard of several programs atempting on changing that, but I don't see why I should install another program. I see it as integral part of the OS. For instance, I have a key with an 'i' in a circle. It normally opens a new browser window. When Chrome is already open, it makes the current tab go to my selected homepage (which is about:blank). I'd like to change the functionality of it.

  I have 4 string variables name, quest, favorite_color, speed that might be empty. I want to concatenate them all together, putting spaces between those that aren't empty. So: name = 'Tim' quest = 'destroy' favorite_color = 'red' speed = 'fast' becomes 'Tim destroy red fast' and name = 'Steve' quest = '' favorite_color = '' speed = 'slow' becomes: 'Steve slow' (Notice: there is only 1 space between 'Steve' and 'slow') How do I do that (preferably in 1 line).

Ideally it would meet these requirements: Displays a 3D object in the center of the screen like a cube Maps a texture to the cube surfaces Should move the camera around the cube as you drag your finger Should zoom the camera in and out on the cube by pinching Optionally has a background behind the cube that wraps around the back of the camera.(for example this could create the effect of the cube being in space) Has anyone seen one or more examples that can do these or at least render the cube with the texture?
