• Pull To Refresh on iphone not working as expected

  I have been using this: http://blog.leahculver.com/2010/12/iphone-pull-to-refresh.html to make the pull to refresh function in my app. But I cant see the text "Pull down to refresh...", "Release to refresh..." and "Loading...". All I've done is copy the files into my project, link against QuartzCore framework, and changed the .h file of my view controller so it is a subclass of PullRefreshTableViewController. Then I added the refresh method. Is seems that the initWithStyle method in PullRefreshTableViewController never is executed. • cuda 5.0 namespaces for contant memory variable usage

  In my program I want to use a structure containing constant variables and keep it on device all long as the program executes to completion. I have several header files containing the declaration of 'global' functions and their respective '.cu' files for their definitions. I kept this scheme because it helps me contain similar code in one place. e.g. all the 'device' functions required to complete 'KERNEL_1' are separated from those 'device' functions required to complete 'KERNEL_2' along with kernels definitions. I had no problems with this scheme during compilation and linking. Until I encountered constant variables. • Persistent Objects in ASP.NET

  Hello, I'm trying to find the best way to persist an object or in use the same object at a later point in the code. So, I create an object, then you're redirected to another page(a form) that needs to use variables from that object. That form is submitted to a third party and there is stuff done on their end and then they request a page on my application that runs some more code and needs the objects variables again. I thought about Database but this is all done at once. This is done during a user checkout process and after it's over, there's no reason to retrieve this object again. So adding and retrieving from a database seems like it would be overkill and I think it would make the process slower. Right now I'm using Session but I keep hearing not to use that but no one is really saying why I shouldn't except it is bad practice. I can't really use post back values because the pages don't work that way. The checkout process starts off in a dll code that redirects to the form that is submitted to the third party and the a page is requested by the third party. So, I'm not really sure of the best way. What are all the options and what does everyone recommend as the best way?

  Hi guys! I have a little problem in my code. The variables don't want to change their values. Can you say why? What's the problem? What do you think?

  Good day, I have like 15 images I need to be buttons. I have buttons working with a Box() (Box - looks like this) class Box(pygame.sprite.Sprite): def __init__(self): pygame.sprite.Sprite.__init__(self) self.image = pygame.Surface((35, 30)) self.image = self.image.convert() self.image.fill((255, 0, 0)) self.rect = self.image.get_rect() self.rect.centerx = 25 self.rect.centery = 505 self.dx = 10 self.dy = 10 I am trying to make the buttons work with image sprites. So I attempted to copy the class style of the box and do the same for my Icons.. code looks like this... class Icons(pygame.sprite.Sprite): def __init__(self): pygame.sprite.Sprite.__init__(self) self.image = pygame.image.load("images/airbrushIC.gif").convert() self.rect = self.image.get_rect() self.rect.x = 25 self.rect.y = 550 the code in the main() rect = image.get_rect() rect.x = 25 rect.y = 550 ic1 = Icons((screen.get_rect().x, screen.get_rect().y)) screen.blit(ic1.image, ic1.rect) pygame.display.update() This code produces a positional (accepts 1 argument but 2 are there) error or an image is not referenced error (inside the Icon class). I'm unsure if this is the right way to go about this anyways.. I know for sure that I need to load all the images (as sprites)... store them in an array... and then have my mouse check if it is clicking one of the items in the array using a for loop. Thanks. Its not loading both. Obviously because its being overwritten by the second one. It seems that "class" for this purpose isn't what I need. Which begs the question how I make sprites outside of a class.. If there is a way to make the class work please let me know.

What I struggling to get my head around is how I would set-up this hard coded page to work with my variables. If anyone can help, much appreciated. Homer.

• zend studio 5.5.1 on windows xp - won't open!

  I have been using zend studio 5.5.1 for the last year and and a half (on windows xp), with some occasional issues, such as a blank error dialog box when I started the program, but always went away when i restarted my computer, and usually got messages about javaw.exe errors. But now, the program does not open at all. What happens is, I get a little dialog that says Loading project - this is normal... but then, nothing. The zend program item is sitting in the taskbar, but when i click on it - nothing! there is nothing to show. i can right click and press close, but that is all. restarting computer did not help. i just uninstalled it, downloaded again from zend website, and reinstalled. tried opening - get loading box, seems to have loaded, even got tip of the day box. but there is nothing showing behind them. once i closed the tip box, i dont have any indication that zend is open besides the program item in the taskbar. windows task manager says it is running... anyone have a clue? help!!! thanks

• MATLAB: What is an appropriate Data Structure for a Matrix with Random Variable Entries?

  I'm currently working in an area that is related to simulation and trying to design a data structure that can include random variables within matrices. To motivate this let me say I have the following matrix: [a b; c d] I want to find a data structure that will allow for a, b, c, d to either be real numbers or random variables. As an example, let's say that a = 1, b = -1, c = 2 but let d be a normally distributed random variable with mean 0 and SD 1. The data structure that I have in mind will give no value to d. However, I also want to be able to design a function that can take in the structure, simulate an uniform(0,1), obtain a value for d using an inverse CDF and then spit out an actual matrix. I have several ideas to do this (all related to the MATLAB icdf function) but would like to know how more experienced programmers would do this. In this application, it's important that the structure is as "lean" as possible since I will be working with very very large matrices and memory will be an issue.

• Calling a class method within a method definition in the same class

  So I'm writing a program for an intro Java class. I'm defining a method to add two fractions together within the class Fraction. Fraction has 2 variables, numerator and denominator. Each of these variables has a setter and a getter. Anyway, I have a problem with my addition method, which is shown below. I've just sort of tried to implement it in a way that made sense, but I'm sure I did something with calling methods/using objects that doesn't work. public void add(Fraction fraction1, Fraction fraction2) { Fraction fraction3 = new Fraction(); int a = fraction1.getNumerator; int b = fraction1.getDenominator; int c = fraction2.getNumerator; int d = fraction2.getDenominator; fraction3.setNumerator((a * d) + (b * c)); fraction3.setDenominator(b * d); } I don't know if the problem is in the method definition, if I can use the object type that way, or if there's something else wrong. any help would be appreciated, and if I need to provide any information, I'll do so ASAP.

• Why won't my UITableViewCell deselect and update its text?

  I have a UITableView with a list of stories and a cell at the bottom that loads more stories. I am trying to make the "More Stories..." cell deselect and change its text to "Loading..." when clicked. I have searched all over the internet and all over stackoverflow and I cant figure out why my code isnt working right. But this AlarmManager is meant to be run in the background (that is application will be alive only for the first few calls of the o fthe alrmamanager to the broadcast recevier) My Question Will AlarmManager make a copy of the global variables(the username and password) and maintain this copy to be passed along with the intent? Because, these values will be used in the broadcast receiver.

• Looking for something to add some standard rules for my c++ project.

  Hello all, My team is developing a C++ project on linux. We use vim as editor. I want to enforce some code standard rules in our team in such a way that if the code is not in accordance with it, some sort of warning or error will be thrown when it builds or compiles. Not necessarily it builds but at least I can run some plugin or tools on that code to make sure it meets the standard. So that before committing to svn everyone need to run the code through some sort of plugin or script and make sure it meets the requirement and then only he/she can commit. Not sure if we can add some rules to vim, if there are any let me know about it. For eg. In our code standards all the member variables and private functions should start with _ class A{ private: int _count; float _amount; void _increment_count(){ ++_count; } } So I want to throw some warning or error or some sort of messages for this class if the variables are declared as follows. class A{ private: int count; float amount; void increment_count(){ ++_count; } } Please note that warning and error are not from compiler becoz program is still valid. Its from the tool I want to use so that code goes to re-factoring but still works fine on the executable side. I am looking for some sort of plugin or pre parsers or scripts which will help me in achieving all this. Currently we use svn; just to anser the comment.

  I have MATLAB code which I'm trying to parallelize with a simple change from "for" to "parfor." I'm unable to do so because of an error I'm receiving on the variable "votes" which states: Valid indices for 'votes' are restricted in PARFOR loops. Explanation: For MATLAB to execute parfor loops efficiently, the amount of data sent to the MATLAB workers must be minimal. One of the ways MATLAB achieves this is by restricting the way variables can be indexed in parfor iterations. The indicated variable is indexed in a way that is incompatible with parfor. • iphone app working on most devices but not a few

  Hi there. I have recently been rewriting some of my iphone app because a couple of users have said it was crashing on certain events. The event in question is when I add a new XIB to the view using the following code AddItemViewController * add_item = [[AddItemViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"AddItem" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]]; [self presentModalViewController:add_item animated:YES]; [add_item setViewFormat:2]; [add_item release]; it works perfectly on my iphone and a mate's ipod touch (both running 3.1.3) but another user on an ipod touch also with 3.1.3 says it crashes when the function above is called. Why could this be happening? Surely if it works on one device it should work on another?! Is there a better way to add a view which maybe doesnt crash? I have also disabled all the code on the loading xib - so it literally is loading a near blank page. It's SO annoying!! Thanks for any help.

• Struct containing a Map in a Map? (C++/STL)

  I was wondering if it was possible to create a struct containing a number of variables and a map in a map. What I have at the moment: typedef std::map<std::string,double> lawVariables; struct ObjectCustomData { std::string objectType; bool global_lock; std::map<std::string, lawVariables> lawData; }; This struct is then passed on to another function as a single data block for that object. The structure setup is as follows: Each object has a data block that contains: its ObjectType, a bool for a lock, and a varying number of "laws" that could look like this: law1 -> var_a = 39.3; -> var_g = 8.1; law8 -> var_r = 83.1; -> var_y = 913.3; -> var_a = 9.81; Firstly, I'm unsure whether I should be using a Map within a Map and secondly even if this would be valid, I'm unsure how to fill it with data and how to recall it afterwards. I looked at maps because then I can search (on a name) if a certain object has a certain law, and if that law has certain variables. (sorry for the first messy post appearance, hope this is better :) )

• Why does Java think my object is a variable?

  Ok so I'm trying to make a simple pong game. I have a paddle that follows the mouse and a ball that bounces around. I wrote a method collidesWith(Sprite s) inside of my Sprite class that checks if the ball collides with the paddle (this works and isn't the problem). I have two objects extending my sprite class, a ball and a paddle object. So inside of my ball class I'm trying to check if it collides with the paddle. So I've tried if(this.collidesWith(paddle) == true){ System.out.println("They touched"); } I've also tried ball.collidesWith(paddle) and other combinations but it always says the same thing about the paddle (and the ball when I use ball.collidesWith) "Cannot find symbol. Symbol: variable paddle(or ball). Location: class Ball" So if I'm reading this right, it thinks that the paddle (and ball) are variables and it's complaining because it can't find them. How can I make it understand I am passing in objects, not variables? For extra information, an earlier assignment had me make two boxes and for them to change colors when they were colliding. In that assignment I used very similar code to above with if(boxOne.collidesWith(boxTwo) == true){ System.out.println("yes"); } And in this code it worked just fine. The program knew that boxOne and boxTwo were child classes of my Sprite class. Anyone know why they wouldn't work the same?

  I'm writing a sort of diagnostic app for iOS that opens a predetermined list of websites and records the elapsed time it takes each to load. I have the app open a UIWebView within a ViewController. I would have thought that both the call to webViewDidFinishLoading AND the if statement within that would ensure that the website would be done, but that's not the case. I've noticed that sometimes, a single website will invoke the didFinishLoading method more than once, but it would only enter the if statement once. For example, if I have a list of ten websites, the webView would only really show the 3rd and the 6th website on the list and then indicate that it was "done" rendering them all. What else can I do to ensure that a website is done loading completely and rendered to the screen before the app moves on to the next one?

  so my program basically consists of two frames. As I click a button on Frame1, Frame2 pops up, and when I click a button on Frame2, and Object is created and the window closes. Now, I need to be able to use the methods of Object in my Frame1, how can this be achieved? I am kind of new to Object-Oriented Programming, sorry, but it's hard to me to explain the situation.   I have n humans of THuman class Each human has scored some points in one of two rounds. (score1 and score2) Each human has its unique id. Score1 and 2 are also unique. Besides, a human has a score_t=score1+score2, which can be the same for two of them. I need to implement 6 variables to THuman which return id of a human with: bigger score1 smaller score1 bigger score2 smaller score2 bigger score_t smaller score_t (if there are many humans those satisfy theese conditions, the one with smallest difference of corresponding parameter should be chosen (like score1 for 1 and 2)) In other words, it's some kind of storing 3 human sortings. Two more functions I need should get argument x, set score1 or score 2 to x, and then refresh some of the 6 variables above. If I needed sorting by only one variable, I would simply create set and defined and < operators for my class. But what is the solution for three of parameters?
