  I have a textbox that I am defining as <%= Html.TextBox("Username", Model.Form.Username, new { @class = "textbox", @disabled = "disabled" })%> In my action [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] [ValidateAntiForgeryToken] public ActionResult EditLogin(LoginForm post) { ... return View(model); } post.Username will be blank, all other properties bind correctly, but if I change @disabled="disabled to @readonly="readonly" the username binds properly and everything works. It looks like model binding ignores values in disabled fields. Is their a way around this? I still need the field's value to bind to the model. I can use readonly but would prefer to use disabled so it is visually apparent to the user that they cannot edit the value of the field.

• Creating sub-applications within applications in IIS/ASP.Net

  I am basically trying to do the same thing as this question, create a new application within a folder so it could be accessed as follows. * http://www.domain.com/ < Main App * http://www.domain.com/newapp < New App The problem is that newapp is reading the web.config from the Main App, which is causing errors because it doesn't have all the same dlls etc. For New App, in IIS, the starting point is set at /newapp, so I am not sure why it is reading the web.config from / at all. It is set as it's own application. I am testing this in IIS6 on XP Pro, so not sure if that makes a difference. The Main App is dotnet 1.1, and New App is 3.0.

• ASP.NET MVC model binding foreign key relationship

  Is it possible to bind a foreign key relationship on my model to a form input? Say I have a one-to-many relationship between Car and Manufacturer. I want to have a form for updating Car that includes a select input for setting Manufacturer. I was hoping to be able to do this using the built-in model binding, but I'm starting to think I'll have to do it myself. My action method signature looks like this: public JsonResult Save(int id, [Bind(Include="Name, Description, Manufacturer")]Car car) The form posts the values Name, Description and Manufacturer, where Manufacturer is a primary key of type int. Name and Description get set properly, but not Manufacturer, which makes sense since the model binder has no idea what the PK field is. Does that mean I would have to write a custom IModelBinder that it aware of this? I'm not sure how that would work since my data access repositories are loaded through an IoC container on each Controller constructor.

  I want to write a page where user's can write a blog post and publish it to the blog. I've downloaded blog engine .NET and looked at the code and I like the way they do it, but it's completely an overkill of what I need. What I need is only a title, author, date, and the blog post it self. I don't even want users to post comments or anything like that. My approach is to save all those blog post information into an xml and then when a page loads it loops around those xml files to show the blog post. Is there a tutorial on how to do this online? Especially for doing blog posts.

  I have an application which is making use of the RSACryptoServiceProvider to decrypt some data using a known private key (stored in a variable). When the IIS Application Pool is configured to use Network Service, everything runs fine. • ASP.NET MVC : AJAX ActionLink - Persist Data

  Hi guys, I'm really new at this and I was searching the web for an answer to my question and I couldn't find it, so here I am posting my question :) I'm trying to create a new record in my table Facility. For my goreign keys I'm displaying the choices in tables instead of a dropdowns. When the user clicks on the select link which is an Ajax.ActionLink(), I wanna retrieve the right record from the DB and set the foreign key of my object Facility to the one slected and replace the Div by a new Partial View. The problem is when I try to submit the form, the Facility object doesnt seem to have the foreign key that I've just set in my ajax fuction in my controller. And if the user has enter some data in the other fields of the create form, I don't them to lose what they already entered. Here's my code.   I'm trying to pass a ViewData object from a master page to a view user control using the ViewDataDictionary. The problem is the ViewDataDictionary is not returning any values in the view user control whichever way i try it. The sample code below is using an anonymous object just for demonstration although neither this method or passing a ViewData object works. Following is the RenderPartial helper method i'm trying to use: <% Html.RenderPartial("/Views/Project/Projects.ascx", ViewData.Eval("Projects"), new ViewDataDictionary(new { Test = "Mark" })); %> and in my view user control i do the following: <%= Html.Encode(ViewData["Test"]) %> Why does this not return anything? • Unit testing a controller in ASP.NET MVC 2 with RedirectToAction

  I have a controller that implements a simple Add operation on an entity and redirects to the Details page: [HttpPost] public ActionResult Add(Thing thing) { // ... do validation, db stuff ... return this.RedirectToAction<c => c.Details(thing.Id)); } This works great (using the RedirectToAction from the MvcContrib assembly). When I'm unit testing this method I want to access the ViewData that is returned from the Details action (so I can get the newly inserted thing's primary key and prove it is now in the database). The test has: var result = controller.Add(thing); But result here is of type: System.Web.Mvc.RedirectToRouteResult (which is a System.Web.Mvc.ActionResult). It doesn't hasn't yet executed the Details method. I've tried calling ExecuteResult on the returned object passing in a mocked up ControllerContext but the framework wasn't happy with the lack of detail in the mocked object. I could try filling in the details, etc, etc but then my test code is way longer than the code I'm testing and I feel I need unit tests for the unit tests! Am I missing something in the testing philosophy? How do I test this action when I can't get at its returned state?

  Hi, I've got a couple of questions about the naming convention for the DisplayTemplates and EditorTemplates in MVC 2. If for example I have a customer object with a child list of account how do I: Create a display template for the list of accounts, what is the file called? When I'm doing a foreach( var c in Model.Accounts ) how do I call a display temple while in the foreach loop? When I do Html.DisplayFor( x => x ) inside the foreach x is the model and not in this case c. Thanks in advance.

  the more I think about it the more I believe it's possible to write a custom route that would consume these URL definitions: {var1}/{var2}/{var3} Const/{var1}/{var2} Const1/{var1}/Const2/{var2} {var1}/{var2}/Const as well as having at most one greedy parameter on any position within any of the upper URLs like {*var1}/{var2}/{var3} {var1}/{*var2}/{var3} {var1}/{var2}/{*var3} There is one important constraint. Routes with greedy segment can't have any optional parts. All of them are mandatory. Example This is an exemplary request http://localhost/Show/Topic/SubTopic/SubSubTopic/123/This-is-an-example This is URL route definition {action}/{*topicTree}/{id}/{title} Algorithm Parsing request route inside GetRouteData() should work like this: Split request into segments: Show Topic SubTopic SubSubTopic 123 This-is-an-example Process route URL definition starting from the left and assigning single segment values to parameters (or matching request segment values to static route constant segments). When route segment is defined as greedy, reverse parsing and go to the last segment. Parse route segments one by one backwards (assigning them request values) until you get to the greedy catch-all one again. When you reach the greedy one again, join all remaining request segments (in original order) and assign them to the greedy catch-all route parameter. Questions As far as I can think of this, it could work. But I would like to know: Has anyone already written this so I don't have to (because there are other aspects to parsing as well that I didn't mention (constraints, defaults etc.) Do you see any flaws in this algorithm, because I'm going to have to write it myself if noone has done it so far. I haven't thought about GetVirtuaPath() method at all.

  I have a page here with a few list views on it that are all bound to Linq data sources and they seem to be working just fine. I want to add validation such that when a checkbox (IsVoid on the object) is checked, comments must be entered (VoidedComments on the object). Here's the bound object's OnValidate method: partial void OnValidate(ChangeAction action) { if (action == ChangeAction.Update) { if (_IsVoid) { string comments = this.VoidedComments; if (string.IsNullOrEmpty(this._VoidedComments)) { throw new ValidationException("Voided Comments are Required to Void an Error"); } } } } Despite there being a dynamic validator on the page referencing the same ValidationGroup as the dynaimc control, when the exception fires, it's caught in JavaScript and the debugger wants to break in. The message is never delivered to the UI as expected. Any thoughts as to What's going on?

  Summary: One of our web applications requires write access to C:\Windows\Temp. However, no matter how much I weaken the NTFS permission, procmon shows ACCESS DENIED. Background (which might or might not be relevant for the problem): We are using OLEDB to access an MS Access database (which is located outside of C:\Windows\Temp). Unfortunately, this OLEDB driver requires write access to the user profile's TEMP directory (which happens to be C:\Windows\Temp when running under IIS 7.5), otherwise the dreaded "Unspecified Error" OleDbException is thrown. See KB 926939 for details. I followed the steps in the KB article, but it doesn't help. Details: This is the output of icacls C:\Windows\Temp. For debugging purposes I gave full permissions to Everyone.   Well I am new to this ORM stuff. We have to create a large project. I read about LINQ to SQL. will it be appropriate to use it in the project of high risk. i found no problem with it personally but the thing is that there will be no going back once started.So i need some feedback from the ORM gurus here at the MSDN. Will entity framework will be better? (I am in doubt about LINK to SQL because I have read and heard negative feedback here and there) I will be using MVC2 as the framework. So please give the feedback about LINQ to SQL in this regard. Q2) Also I am a fan of stored procedure as they are precomputed and fasten up the thing and I have never worked without them.I know that LINQ to SQL support stored procedures but will it be feasible to give up stored procedure seeing the beautiful data access layer generated with little effort as we are also in a need of rapid development. Q3) If some changes to some fields required in the database in LINK to SQL how will the changes be accommodated in the data access layer.

  I have an Action that needs to read a file from a secure location, so I have to use impersonation to read the file. But if I replace these 2 lines: var bytes = System.IO.File.ReadAllBytes(path); return File(bytes, "application/octet-stream", "FileName"); with this: return File(path, "application/octet-stream", "FileName"); It does NOT work and I get the error message: Access to the path 'c:\projects\uploads\1\aa2bcbe7-ea99-499d-add8-c1fdac561b0e\Untitled 2.csv' is denied. I guess using the File results with a path, tries to open the file at a later time in the request pipeline when I have already "undone" the impersonation. Remember, the impersonation code works because I can read the file in the bytes array. What I want to do though is stream the file to the client. Any idea how I can work around this?   When I hover on a static menu item that has a dynamic menu, the hover styles are in effect but once I start navigating the dynamic menu the static menu item goes back to the non-hover styles. Does anyone know how to make them stick until I stop ''using' that menu? I tried the 'selected' static menu item styles but that doesn't work - if I use them, even when I stop navigating the menu the last selected static menu item will display the selected style - after using the menu I want the styles to revert to the normal styles....

  I have a FormsAuthentication cookie that is persistent and works independently in a development, test, and production environment. I have a user that can authenticate, the user object is created, the authentication cookie is added to the response: 'Custom object to grab the TLD from the url authCookie.Domain = myTicketModule.GetTopLevelDomain(Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_HOST")) FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(authTicket.Name, False) Response.SetCookie(authCookie) The user gets processed a little bit to check for a first time login, security questions, etc, and is then redirected with the following tidbit: Session.Add("ForceRedirect", "/FirstTimeLogin.aspx") Response.Redirect("~/FirstTimeLogin.aspx", True) With a debug break, I can verify that the cookie collection holds both a cookie not related to authentication that I set for a different purpose and the formsauthentication cookie. Then the next step in the process occurs at the ApplicationAuthenticateRequest in the global.asax: Sub Application_AuthenticateRequest(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Dim formsCookieName As String = myConfigurationManager.AppSettings("FormsCookieName") Dim authCookie As HttpCookie = Request.Cookies(formsCookieName) At this point, for this ONE user authCookie is nothing. I have 15,000 other users who are not impacted in this manner. However, for one user the cookie just vanishes without a trace. I've seen this before with w3wp.exe exceptions, state server exceptions and other IIS process related exceptions, but I'm getting no exceptions in the event log. w3wp.exe is not crashing, the state server has some timeouts but they appear unrelated (as verified by timestamps) and it only happens to this one user on this one domain (this code is used across 2 different TLDs with approximately 10 other subdomains). One avenue I'm investigating is that the cookie might just be too large. I would think that there would be a check for the size of the cookie going into the response, and I wouldn't think it would impact it this way. Any ideas why the request might dumping the cookie? NOTE: The secondary cookie I mentioned that I set also gets dumped (and it's very tiny). EDIT-NOTE: The session token is NOT lost when this happens. However, since the authentication cookie is lost, it is ignored and replaced on a subsequent login.

  How do I loop through an array and call a function on each pass? At the minute I'm trying the following... if Request.Form("authorize") <> "" then dim post_ids, ids post_ids = Request.form("authorize") ids = split(post_ids, ",") For i = LBound(ids) to UBound(ids) set updater = myFunction("comment_id=" & ids(i)) Next end if I'm getting the following error... Arguments are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in conflict with one another.
