  • What can cause Bonjour to not call me back during browsing?

    I have a rather popular Bonjour-based application in App Store. It works perfectly, but around 0.2% of my users report a bizarre bug: "no arrows appear on the edges of the screen, so I can't share stuff with other people!". Needless to say, displaying these arrows is tied to the browsing of a particular Bonjour service on the local domain. The problem is, the Apple review team seems to intermittently happen to be in this 0.2%. This isn't good for review results, as you might imagine. No matter how much I try, I cannot reproduce this bug. From the few logs I have, it looks like my app is running correctly, just not receiving NSNetServiceBrowser delegate calls. What can cause this? Things I've tried: Having a shorter service name < 14 chars in length to be in spec. Publishing on @"local." rather than @"" (aka Go Look For The Default Registration Domain). My app is rather useless on a wide-area network anyway. Things I haven't tried: restarting the browsing machinery periodically. (I have two browsers, though, one looking for the legacy longer name, one for the new shorter one.) What to do?

  • UI suggestions on how to display suggested tags for a given text to a user?

    I am writing a web-app that uses a tagging system to organize the user's submitted reports. Part of it uses ajax to get suggestions for tags to present to the user based on the content of their report. I am looking for suggestions on how to present this information for the user. I'm not quite certain what a friendly way to do this would be. Edit: Well, most of the responses here seem to be focused on the user typing in keywords. The idea I'm trying to define here is more towards presenting the user a set of suggested keywords that they may accept or decline without having to type a tag in manually.   • Why do I get CA1811 when I call a private method from a public method in C++/CLI?

    I've recently upgraded my project from Visual Studio 2008 to Visual Studio 2010. By enabling Code Analysis and building on Release, I'm getting warning CA1811: Avoid uncalled private code. I've managed to reduce the code to this: .h file: public ref class Foo { public: virtual System::String^ ToString() override; private: static System::String^ Bar(); }; .cpp file: String^ Foo::ToString() { return Bar(); } String^ Foo::Bar() { return "abc"; } The warning I get: CA1811 : Microsoft.Performance : 'Foo::Bar(void)' appears to have no upstream public or protected callers. It doesn't matter if Bar() is static or not. I've tried to reproduce it in C# but I can't. I can only reproduce it in C++/CLI. Why do I get this warning? Is this a Visual Studio 2010 bug?

  • How to convert Unicode strings (\u00e2, etc) into NSString for display?

    I am trying to support arbitrary unicode from a variety of international users. They have already put a bunch of data into sqlite databases on their iPhones, and now I want to capture the data into a database, then send it back to their device. Right now I am using a php page that is sending data back to from an internet mysql database. The data is saved in the mysql database properly, but when it's sent back it comes out as unicode text, such as Frank\u00e2\u0080\u0099s iPad instead of just Frank's iPad where the apostrophe should really be a curly apostrophe. The answer posted to another question indicates that there is no built-in Cocoa methods to convert the "\u00e2\u0080\u0099" portion of the unicode string from the webserver to an NSString object. Is this correct? That seems really surprising (and scarily disappointing), since Cocoa definitely allows input from many different Unicode characters, and I need to support any arbitrary language that I have never heard of, and all of the possible characters. I save them to and from the local sqlite database just fine now, but once I send it to a web server, then perhaps pull down different data, I want to ensure the data pulled from the web server is correctly formatted.

    Hello, I have been struggling with getting the versionName for a running application from the PackageInfo Object type. I have constructed a Parcelable Interface with all of the fields associated with the PackageInfo Object type. The primary input for that interface method is a Parcel object. I cannot seem to figure out how to correctly associate these Parcelable, Parcel, and PackageInfo objects. Is there any sample code out there that I can look at? Doesn't seem like it should be that difficult but it seems to be stumping me. Thanks Jazz

My problem is that the tab is using window's icon for unknown file-type, I tried with Icon property of Window, Icon gets assigned but still problem is when I run application, task bar Tab initially displays window's icon for unknown file-type and when window-load completes it changes to the Icon assigned.     I have implemented the Ajax Autocomplete feature in my application using a web service file that querys my database and it works great. One problem I am having is allowing the user to see the item's name, as that's what they are typing in the textbox, but when they select it, it saves the item's ID number instead of the actual name. I want it to behave much like a dropdown list, where I can specify what is seen and entered vs. what is actually saved in the database (in this case, the product ID instead of it's name.)     I have a few tables with the following relationships: Company hasMany Jobs, Employees, and Trucks, Users I've got all my foreign keys set up properly, along with the tables' Models, Controllers, and Views. Originally, the Jobs table had a boolean field called "assigned". The following find operation (from the JobsController) successfully returns all employees, all trucks, and any jobs that are not assigned and fall on a certain day for a single company (without returning users by utilizing the containable behavior): $this->set('resources', $this->Job->Company->find('first', array( 'conditions' => array( 'Company.id' => $company_id ), 'contain' => array( 'Employee', 'Truck', 'Job' => array( 'conditions' => array( 'Job.assigned' => false, 'Job.pickup_date' => date('Y-m-d', strtotime('Today')); ) ) ) ))); Now, since writing this code, I decided to do a lot more with the job assignments. So I've created a new model "Assignment" that belongsTo Truck and belongsTo Job. I've added the hasMany Assignments to both the Truck model and the Jobs Model. I have both foreign keys in the assignments table, along with some other assignment fields. Now, I'm trying to get the same information above, only instead of checking the assigned field from the job table, I want to check the assignments table to ensure that the job does not exist there. I can no longer use the containable behavior if I'm going to use the "joins" feature of the find method due to mysql errors (according to the cookbook).     I have a configurable product which is available in many different colors and sizes. I want the configurable product to appear once for every color. My idea is to assign one simple product of the configurable product in every color to the category of the configurable product. Then I want to change the listing, so that the (colored) simple product links to it's master product (the configurable one). The other way would be, to just assign the configurable product to a category and then list it multiple times with different colors. But I think this would be to complicated.

  • How can I display a hidden view in Interface Builder which is on a unattached monitor?

    I am using Interface Builder to work on NIBs and one of the NIBs must have a view on my external monitor which is not attached because I cannot see it on my MacBook. I have had this problem with editing iPad NIBs which I work on with my larger external monitor. For some reason Interface Builder is not detecting that there is now just one screen and not pulling this view onto this monitor. There has to be a way to get this back into the visible space so that I can work on it. I have tried double clicking on the view icon in the organizer which normally brings the view forward but it is not coming into view. What can I do? Is this really a bug that has been around this whole time?

    I would like to build a cross-platform GUI application in Python that displays PostScript files I generate, among some other stuff. What is the best way to accomplish this? Ideally I would be able to do things like zoom and pan the displayed graphic. Do any/some/all of the GUI toolkits have something I can drop in to do this, and if so what are they called and how do they work? If necessary, I can convert the postscript file to PDF or a raster format behind the scenes, but I'd rather not do the latter.

I read about the 'if' attribute but am unsure what expression to use with it, as ${file::exists('*.cs')} does not work. The build script is a template for Umbraco (a CMS) projects and may or may not ever have .cs source files in the project. Ideally I would like to not have developers need to remember to modify the NAnt script to include the compile task when .cs files are added to the project (or exclude it when all .cs files are removed).

(It Should Look Something Like "SELECT District FROM City WHERE Name='Simi Valley';") I already realize that in this simplistic case it would be very easy to simply reconstruct the query... but how can I access it in a general way that will work for very complicated prepared statements, and cases where I don't necessarily already understand the intended structure of the query, etc. Isn't there some function or method that can be called on the statement object that will return the actual text of the SQL query, after binding?
