• Help understanding how to make a bar chart using ggplot2

  I'm trying to use the bar_geom function of ggplot2, but I can't understand how to use it. I've made a small sample of my code to show what I am trying to do: library(ggplot2) # sample data sampleData = data.frame( v1=c('a','b','c','d','e', 'f','g', 'h', 'i','j'), v2=c(1:10) ) sampleData$Names = data.frame( Names = paste(sampleData$v1, sampleData$v2, sep="") ) sampleData$Values = c(1:10) # make plot x = sampleData$Values y = sampleData$Names qplot( x, y, data = sampleData, geom="bar" ) I want sampleData$Names to be on the x-axis of my graph, labeling each bar and and sampleData$Values to scale the bar height. I want the y-axis to be specified as a range. I realize that I don't understand how ggplot2 functions as this small example does not work, yet my other example is generating a plot but I cannot specify a y-range as it considers the variables to be categorical.

  I'm working on an audio-intensive app for the iPhone. I'm currently calling a number of different functions for each sample I need to calculate. For example, I have an envelope class. When I calculate a sample, I do something like: sampleValue = oscilator->tic() * envelope->tic(); But I could also do something like: for(int i = 0; i < bufferLength; i++){ buffer[i] = oscilatorBuffer[i] * evelopeBuffer[i]; } I know the second will be more efficient, but don't know by how much. Are function calls expensive enough that I'd be crazy not to use buffers if I care event a tiny bit about performance?

  I have a set of numerical libraries in C++ and I want to call them interactively in a interpretive language like F# or IronPython. So I have two choices now: Compile the library in native DLL and use PInvoke to call functions in it. Compile the C++ library to .Net dll using visual c++ (/clr:pure compile option). The advantage of 1 is that it is very fast, however there are more work in it, e.g. I cannot PInvoke double pointer (e.g. float **), I must write another wrapper in the C++ library to make the interface friendly to .Net. The advantage of 2 is that I don't need to do know Mashaling strings, arrays, etc. However, the .net dll is slower compared to the native one. What others factors should be considered when choosing between the two?

  Hi, I have a dll file, and i took an object from it and called the functions inside this dll by the object, like this way: Command testClass = (Command)assembly.CreateInstance(creatObject); testClass.Execute(); anyway, the i used reflection from some reason. so i need to use invoke function & set values for variables, then calling the basic function Execute. • Insert an ajaxified Webpart into an existing MOSS site

  Hi everybody, I need to code a webpart which purpose is to asynchronously fetch some documents and display them into an existing page. Unfortunately I have to face a lot of rescritcions and my struggle to find a solution seems useleess so far. 1) I cannot use Microsoft asp.net ajax 2) I must use Jsonp because the called service (page, whatever...) is outside the site's domain. That's not a big problem. 3) I have no possibility to alter the existing page code, so I cannot reference an external library such as JQuery. 4) For the same reason I have no possibility to call my methods on the window.onLoad event, so here the question is: how can I be sure that everything is correctly loaded before triggering my ajax call? 5) Since several instances of the same webpart can be placed into the same page, can there be some possible conflicts among the various js functions?

  The p calls inspect, and puts/print calls to_s for representing its object. What makes the difference between to_s and inspect? And what's the difference between puts/print/p?   I look after a number of divisional websites for a uk based membership organisation and what we want to do is provide, as well as other address functions, is a closest member lookup to a web user from the websites themselves. A few use cases that I want to fill: Case 1: The user puts in their post code and wants to see all the members in a 5/10/15/20/30/40 mile radius from them Case 2: The member puts in an area (city, county, etc.) and gets a list of members in that area. Essentially what I'm looking for is a programmable API which I can code against to do: post code lookup and returns addresses (after picking house number for example). search post code + radius (5miles, 10miles etc) and get a set of applicable post codes to then join onto the membership records in the database Any recommendations? It can be a quarterly update install on the server, it can be a queryable web service. I'm open to suggestions. Thanks in advance

  Where can I find some good pointers on best practices for running ASP.NET MVC on IIS6? I haven't seen any realistic options for web-hosts who provide IIS7-hosting yet. Mostly because I don't live in the U.S. So I was wondering on how you best build applications in ASP.NET MVC and make it easily available to deploy on both IIS6 and IIS7. Keep in mind that this is for standard web-hosts, so there is no access to ISAPI-filters or special settings inside IIS6. Are there anything else one should think about when developing ASP.NET MVC-applications to target IIS6? Any functions that doesn't work? UPDATE: One of the bigger issues is the thing with routes. The pattern {controller}/{action} will work on IIS7, but not IIS6 which needs {controller}.mvc/{action}. So how do I make this transparent? Again, no ISAPI and no IIS-settings, please.

• How can I "best fit" an arbitrary cairo (pycairo) path?

  It seems like given the information in stroke_extents() and the translate(x, y) and scale(x, y) functions, I should be able to take any arbitrary cairo (I'm using pycairo) path and "best fit" it. In other words, center it and expand it to fill the available space. Before drawing the path, I have scaled the canvas such that the origin is the lower left corner, up is y+, right is x+, and the height and width are both 1. Given these conditions, this code seems to correctly scale the path: # cr is the canvas extents = cr.stroke_extents() x_size = abs(extents[0]) + abs(extents[2]) y_size = abs(extents[1]) + abs(extents[3]) cr.scale(1.0 / x_size, 1.0 / y_size) I cannot for the life of me figure out the translating though. Is there a simpler approach? How can I "best fit" a cairo path on its canvas? Please ask for clarification if anything is unclear in this question.

  Say I have this line of code in the view. <?php echo CHtml::activeTextField($model,'start_time'); ?> start_time is a UNIX timestamp. When just displaying it in a view I can apply functions like date() on it. Where should I apply the formatting when I'm displaying it in a form, by using the above line of code? (This case of timestamps/dates might be special, but I'm also interested in how would one go about if it wasn't a date and I just want to work with "value in database" < "different representations of the value in different views.   My function test is added to two different .cpp-files and the functions are private to their respective files as shown below test1.cpp #include <iostream> using namespace std; void test() { cout << "test" << endl; } test2.cpp #include <iostream> using namespace std; void test() { cout << "test" << endl; } main.cpp #include <iostream> using namespace std; int main() { return 0; } During linking I get the error multiple definition of test() - but how is that possible, considering that the two files have their own private scope!? I could understand it if I included the function prototype in each .cpp-files' corresponding header, but there is no such thing in this example.

The following method displays objects which are close to 2, but it does not display object 2. • Using sphinx to create context sensitive html help

  Hi all, I am currently using AsciiDoc (http://www.methods.co.nz/asciidoc/) for documenting my software projects because it supports pdf and html help generation. I am currently running it through cygwin so that the a2x tool chain functions properly. This works well for me but is a pain to setup on other windows computers. I have been looking for alternative methods and recently revisited Sphinx. Noticing that it now produces html help files I gave it a try and it seems to work well in the small tests I performed. My question is, is there a way to specify map id's for context sensitive help in the text so that my windows programs can call the proper help api and the file is launched and opened to the desired location? In AsciiDoc I am using "pass::[]". By using these constructs a context.h and alias.h are generated along with the other html help files (context sensitive help information).

• jQuery autocomplete function, how to add support for words not available in the database yet?

  Hi, I'm looking to implement a tag system like how SO uses on their site, where users can specify multiple tag words. However, on top of all the other autocomplete functions available as jquery plugins, I also want to allow users to enter new words not in the database. Does anyone know of any plugin that can do that? Or if there isn't, how one can add that functionality to an existing autocomplete function?   Hi! I'm trying to make a C# program which will use a C .dll (unfortunately, the .dll doesn't have good documentation) to access a smart card. One of the functions of the .dll uses name of the reader as argument. My problem is that I don't know how to get the name. • Confusing rails div id naming

  I have started using jQuery and rails. I have made a simple form that submits to the database and updates the page without reloading with ajax. In my jQuery functions I used $"#new_comment" for the id name (in my application.js and create.js.erb files) but on my articles/show view file, I named the div "add_comment" and it works.. I renamed it new_comment and it breaks! Can someone explain it please? I get an error: "no action responded to 1" My function in my controller is "create".

  Hey Guys, I want to create a section in my site, where a user has a few simple update buttons. Each of these update buttons will be going to the server, and will do a long crunching behind the scene. While the server crunches data, I want the user to have a some kind of progress indicator, like progress bar or textual percentage. I'm using jQuery as my javascript library, and CodeIgniter (PHP) as the server-side framework, if it's important... What I was thinking about is using PHP's flush() function to report progress status to jQuery, but I'm not sure that jQuery's ajax functions are reading the output before it's complete... So any advice/explanation would be useful and helpful! Thanks :)

• Fetching custom Authorization header from incoming PHP request

  So I'm trying to parse an incoming request in PHP which has the following header set: Authorization: Custom Username Simple question: how on earth do I get my hands on it? If it was Authorization: Basic, I could get the username from $_SERVER["PHP_AUTH_USER"]. If it was X-Custom-Authorization: Username, I could get the username from $_SERVER["HTTP_X_CUSTOM_AUTHORIZATION"]. But neither of these are set by a custom Authorization, var_dump($_SERVER) reveals no mention of the header (in particular, AUTH_TYPE is missing), and PHP5 functions like get_headers() only work on responses to outgoing requests. I'm running PHP 5 on Apache with an out-of-the box Ubuntu install.

  I have a C# Windows Forms project open with some C# code in it. Question: How can I have an F# file that I can write F# code in but still referencing all the C# code I have on Form1.cs (including the GUI). I can successfully do this: - Create a C# Windows Forms project - Create a F# Library project - Reference the F# Library DLL from my C# project - That way I can call F# functions from C# But I still can't see my buttons and textboxes from F# I understand that that is because it's a library and it can't reference System.Windows.Forms So how do I fix this? I don't want it to be a library or this or that, I just want it to be a file that will allow me to write F# code while being able to reference my C# Form and code. I guess you can say I want an F# file that is also a "partial class Form1" so that I can continue writing code for the same Project, but using F# instead. How do I do that?

Should I implement IEquatable or just override Object.Equals()? From MSDN: This method determines equality by using the default equality comparer, as defined by the object's implementation of the IEquatable.Equals method for T (the type of values in the list).   I'm working on a large computer science school project using java and SQlite. After finding out that the zentus.org wrapper errors on databases with ON DELETE and ON UPDATE clauses set, I have changed to the other wrapper found at http://www.ch-werner.de/javasqlite. However, I find the documentation lacking somewhat when trying to get an overview on how it works and how to use it, and the function descriptions are very very short, and you have to scan through every function and somewhat guess how they work and what they do. I wasn't able to find any guides on google on how to use it. My question: Does anyone know a link for a guide or tutorial for the ch-werner.de/javasqlite wrapper, or else can give me a basic code example, or give a quick overview of querying the database and the most used functions, and how to use them?
