  • UIAlertView -show causing a memory leak

    I'm relatively new to iPhone Development, so this may be my fault, but it goes against what I've seen. :) I think that I'm creating a UIAlertView that lives just in this vaccuum of the 'if' statement. NSData *data = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&response error:&error]; if(!data) { // Add an alert UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"Error" message:@"Unable to contact server" delegate:nil cancelButtonTitle:@"Ok" otherButtonTitles:nil]; NSLog(@"retain count before show: %i", alert.retainCount); [alert show]; NSLog(@"retain count before release: %i", alert.retainCount); [alert release]; NSLog(@"retain count after release: %i", alert.retainCount); return nil; } However, the console logs baffle me. retain count before show: 1 retain count before release: 6 retain count after release: 5 I've tried also adding: alert = nil; after the release. That makes the retain count 0, but I still show a leak. And if it helps, the leak's Responsible Frame is UIKeyboardInputManagerClassForInputMode. I'm also using OS 4 Beta 3. So anyone have any ideas how a local UIAlertView's retain count would increment itself by 5 when calling -show? Thanks for your help!

  • Error creating Rails DB using rake db:create

    Hi- I'm attempting to get my first "hello world" rails example going using the rails' getting started guide on my OSX 10.6.3 box. When I go to execute the first rake db:create command (I'm using mysql) I get: simon@/Users/simon/source/rails/blog/config: rake db:create (in /Users/simon/source/rails/blog) Couldn't create database for {"reconnect"=>false, "encoding"=>"utf8", "username"=>"root", "adapter"=>"mysql", "database"=>"blog_development", "pool"=>5, "password"=>nil, "socket"=>"/opt/local/var/run/mysql5/mysqld.sock"}, charset: utf8, collation: utf8_unicode_ci (if you set the charset manually, make sure you have a matching collation) I found plenty of stackoverflow questions addressing this problem with the following advice: Verify that user and password are correct (I'm running w/ no password for root on my dev box) Verify that the socket is correct - I can cat the socket, so I assume it's correct Verify that the user can create a DB (As you can see root can connect and create a this DB no problem) simon@/Users/simon/source/rails/blog/config: mysql -uroot -hlocalhost Welcome to the MySQL monitor.   • NSPredicates, scopes and SearchDisplayController

    Building a search with some custom objects and three scopes: All, Active, and Former. Got it working with the below code: - (void)filterContentForSearchText:(NSString*)searchText scope:(NSString *)scope { [[self filteredArtists] removeAllObjects]; for (HPArtist *artist in [self artistList]) { if ([scope isEqualToString:@"All"] || [[artist status] isEqualToString:scope]) { NSComparisonResult result = [[artist displayName] compare:searchText options:(NSCaseInsensitiveSearch|NSDiacriticInsensitiveSearch) range:NSMakeRange(0, [searchText length])]; if (result == NSOrderedSame) { [[self filteredArtists] addObject:artist]; } } } } This works fine and takes scope into account. Since I wanted to search four fields at at time, this question helped me come up with the below code: - (void)filterContentForSearchText:(NSString*)searchText scope:(NSString *)scope { [[self filteredArtists] removeAllObjects]; NSPredicate *resultPredicate = [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"familyName CONTAINS[cd] %@ OR familyKanji CONTAINS[cd] %@ OR givenName CONTAINS[cd] %@ OR givenKanji CONTAINS[cd] %@", searchText, searchText, searchText, searchText]; [[self filteredArtists] addObjectsFromArray:[[self artistList] filteredArrayUsingPredicate:resultPredicate]]; } However it no longer takes scope into account. I have been playing around with if statements, adding AND scope == 'Active', etc. to the end of the statement and using NSCompoundPredicates to no avail. Whenever I activate a scope, I'm not getting any matches for it. Just a note that I've seen approaches like this one that take scope into account, however they only search inside one property.

  • VERY strange stack overflow in C++ program

    Hello, I wrote a program some time ago (Mac OS X, C++, SDL, FMOD) and it perfomed rather good. But lately I wanted to extend its functionality and added some more code to it. And now, when I run it and try to test the new functionality, the program crashes with SIGABRT. Looking into debugger, on function stack I see: _kill kill$UNIX2003 raise __abort __stack_chk_fail odtworz <-- my function that was was modified As far as I know, "__stack_chk_fail" indicates a stack overflow. But that's not the weirdest thing about it. In this function "odtworz", I have some code like this: ... koniec = 0; while ( koniec == 0 ) { ... if (mode == 1) { ... } else if (mode == 2) { ... } else if (mode == 3) { ... } } mode is a global variable and is set to value "2" in a function before. And now imagine - if I delete the third if statement (mode == 3) which never gets executed in this mode, the program doesn't crash! Deleting code that doesn't even get to be executed helps the situation! Now, I don't want to delete this code because it's for other mode of my program. And it works fine there. So any hints where I can search? What could be possibly wrong with this?

    I love my Delphi 4 but at the same time I see the need to talk to windows .net This is a recompiled dll that I found on sourceforge.net/projects/delphinet/ (DelphiNet03.zip) by some nice people that fund the dll from some were. The real answer is to make this dll so that fits into Delphi as true Delphi code, and not a dll clip on. So we can make objects that use dot net in Delphi. Because I’m not an assembly freak, I’m freaking out a little with a wee sweek for help! 1/ How do I link the asm code with the data info at the bottom of this code. Can some one show me which calls to look for to make this link to data. 2/ I need to find the beginning of all the procedures and functions, but I cannot find a ‘RET’ statement.     I've seen many questions and answers about mapping strings to enums and vice-versa, but how can I map a series of localized strings to enums? Should I just create an extension method like this that returns the proper string from a resource file? Is there a way to localize attributes (like "Description") that are used in solutions like this? Which is the preferred solution - extension method or attributes. It seems to me that this isn't the intended purpose of attributes. In fact, now that I think about it, if I were to use an extension method an attribute seems like something I'd use to specify a key in a resource file for the localized string I want to use in place of the enum value. EDIT - example: Given the following enum, public enum TransactionTypes { Cheque = 1, BankTransfer = 2, CreditCard = 3 } I would like a way to map each type to a localized string. I started off with an extension method for the enum that uses a switch statement and strongly typed references to the resource file. However, an extension method for every enum doesn't seem like a great solution. I've started following this to create a custom attribute for each enumerated value. The attribute has a base name and key for the resource file containing localized strings. In the above enum, for example, I have this: ... [EnumResourceAttribute("FinancialTransaction", "Cheque")] Cheque = 1, ... Where "FinanacialTransaction" is the resx file and "Cheque" is the string key. I'm trying to create a utility method to which I could pass any value from any enumeration and have it return the localized string representation of that value, assuming the custom attribute is specified. I just can't figure out how to dynamically access a resource file and a key within it.

  • How do I get SSIS Data Flow to put '0.00' in a flat file?

    I have an SSIS package with a Data Flow that takes an ADO.NET data source (just a small table), executes a select * query, and outputs the query results to a flat file (I've also tried just pulling the whole table and not using a SQL select). The problem is that the data source pulls a column that is a Money datatype, and if the value is not zero, it comes into the text flat file just fine (like '123.45'), but when the value is zero, it shows up in the destination flat file as '.00'. I need to know how to get the leading zero back into the flat file. I've tried various datatypes for the output (in the Flat File Connection Manager), including currency and string, but this seems to have no effect. I've tried a case statement in my select, like this: CASE WHEN columnValue = 0 THEN '0.00' ELSE columnValue END (still results in '.00') I've tried variations on that like this: CASE WHEN columnValue = 0 THEN convert(decimal(12,2), '0.00') ELSE convert(decimal(12,2), columnValue) END (Still results in '.00') and: CASE WHEN columnValue = 0 THEN convert(money, '0.00') ELSE convert(money, columnValue) END (results in '.0000000000000000000') This silly little issue is killin' me. Can anybody tell me how to get a zero Money datatype database value into a flat file as '0.00'?

    Hi, I'm using malloc to make an error check of whether memory can be allocated or not for the particular array z1. ARRAY_SIZE is a predefined with a numerical value. I use casting as I've read it's safe to do so. long double *z1 = (long double *)malloc(sizeof (long double) * ARRAY_SIZE); if(z1 == NULL){ printf("Out of memory\n"); exit(-1); } The above is just a snippet of my code, but when I add the error checking part (contained in the if statement above), I get a lot of compile time errors with visual studio 2008. It is this error checking part that's generating all the errors. What am I doing wrong? On a related issue with malloc, I understand that the memory needs to be deallocated/freed after the variable/array z1 has been used. For the array z1, I use: free(z1); z1 = NULL; Is the second line z1 = NULL necessary? Thanks a lot...

  • How can I set PivotField.Calculation in Excel/VSTO?

    I'm trying to set the Calculation property on an OLAP PivotField with VSTO 3.0. For example: pivotField.Calculation = XlPivotFieldCalculation.PercentOf; If I do the above, the value I assign does not stay (Excel appears to revert the change). I suspect the reason is that the BaseField property of the PivotField also needs to be populated (as PercentOf needs a BaseField). But it appears to me that you can't set the BaseField property until you've set the Calculation property (otherwise you get a COMException). I've tried to set ManualUpdate on the PivotTable to true, but with VSTO this rarely works, as this gets reverted immediately back to false. Note, that this seems to work fine in VBA as you can assign multiple values in a single statement, like this: With ActiveSheet.PivotTables("PivotTable1").PivotFields("[Measures].[Reseller Sales Amount]") .Calculation = xlPercentOf .BaseField = "[Geography].[Geography].[Country]" .BaseItem = "[Geography].[Geography].[Country].&[France]" .NumberFormat = "0.00%" End With But with C#/VSTO there's no construct like this (that I know of) and I'm stuck not able to do something like the above. Further note, Calculation values that don't require a BaseField, e.g., XlPivotFieldCalculation.xlPercentOfTotal, get set just fine. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

    I'm connection to mssql server through pyodbc, via FreeTDS odbc driver, on linux ubuntu 10.04. Sqlalchemy 0.5 uses DATETIME for sqlalchemy.Date() fields. Now Sqlalchemy 0.6 uses DATE, but sql server 2000 doesn't have a DATE type. How can I make DATETIME be the default for sqlalchemy.Date() on sqlalchemy 0.6 mssql+pyodbc dialect? I'd like to keep it as clean as possible.     Here's the case: After computer being hacked, we are in a rush to backup all data out to other computer. As a result, the mysql databases are not backup out as sql statement. What we have done is backup out all the physical files/folders in the C drive to new computer. Eg: C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 4.1\data In this case, all data for mysql are inside unreadable file. Inside data folder consist of files like ib_logfile0, ib_logfile1, but not ib_data1 All database's table structure format are inside each respective folder. (Some folder have .frm, .opt) (some other folder have .frm, .myd, .myi) How can I retrieve back the data from the database in a new computer? I tried to install the same mysql version(4.1) at new computer, then replace all backup files inside data folder into this mysql in new computer. Then restart mysql service. When I restart, it fail: Could not start mysql service on local computer. error 1067: process terminated unexpectedly. But what is the result of lub(T1,T2)? This para 15.12.2.7 is just a bit too much ... BTW, I'm using 1.6.0_18 on Windows. PS: I know that Float f2 = false? (Float) 1.0f: false?     I have to do queries on uncommitted changes and I tried to use transactions, but I found that it do not work if there are exceptions. I made a simple example to reproduce the problem. I have a database with only one table called "Tabella" and the table has two fields: "ID" is a autogenerated integer, and "Valore" is an integer with a Unique constraint. Then I try to run this code: using (TransactionScope scope = new TransactionScope()) { Db1Container db1 = new Db1Container(); try { db1.AddToTabella(new Tabella() { Valore = 1 }); db1.SaveChanges(); } catch { } try { db1.AddToTabella(new Tabella() { Valore = 1 }); db1.SaveChanges(); //Unique constraint is violated here and an exception is thrown } catch { } try { db1.AddToTabella(new Tabella() { Valore = 2 }); db1.SaveChanges(); } catch { } //scope.Complete(); //NEVER called } //here everything should be rolled back Now if I look into the database it should contain no records because the transaction should rollback, instead I find two records!!!! One with Valore=1 and one with Valore=2. I am missing something? It looks like the second call to SaveChanges method rollback its own changes and "deletes" the transaction, then the third call to SaveChanges commits the changes of the first and the third insert (at this point it is like the transaction not exists). I also tried to use SaveChanges(false) method (even without calling AcceptAllChanges method), but with no success: I have the same behaviour. I do not want the transaction to be rolled back automatically by SaveChanges, because I want to correct the errors (for example by user interaction in the catch statement) and make a retry. Can someone help me with this? It seems like a "bug", and it is giving me a really big headache...

Because with 32bits signed 2^31 = overflows to 29. Which works! Prototype in PHP $r = $x - (($x - $y) & (($x - $y) / (29))); Actual code for LEADS (you can only do one math function PER LINE!!! AHHHH!!!) In order to find the the MAX values I can only perform the following functions Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Add, NOT, AND ,OR Let's say I have two numbers A = 60; B = 50; Now if A is always greater than B it would be simple to find the max value MAX = (A - B) + B; ex. 10 = (60 - 50) 10 + 50 = 60 = MAX Problem is A is not always greater than B. I cannot perform ABS, MAX, MIN or conditional checks with the scripting applicaiton I am using. Is there any way possible using the limited operation above to find a value VERY close to the max?

(Logic & Assignment operators) There are questions about the benefits of a language using short-circuit code, but I'm wondering what are the benefits for a programmer? Is it just that it can make code a little more concise? Or are there performance reasons? I'm not asking about situations where two entities need to be evaluated anyway, for example: if($user->auth() AND $model->valid()){ $model->save(); } To me the reasoning there is clear - since both need to be true, you can skip the more costly model validation if the user can't save the data. This also has a (to me) obvious purpose: if(is_string($userid) AND strlen($userid) > 10){ //do something }; Because it wouldn't be wise to call strlen() with a non-string value. What I'm wondering about is the use of short-circuit code when it doesn't effect any other statements. For example, from the Zend Application default index page: defined('APPLICATION_PATH') || define('APPLICATION_PATH', realpath(dirname(__FILE__) . '/../application')); This could have been: if(!defined('APPLICATION_PATH')){ define('APPLICATION_PATH', realpath(dirname(__FILE__) . '/../application')); } Or even as a single statement: if(!defined('APPLICATION_PATH')) define('APPLICATION_PATH', realpath(dirname(__FILE__) . '/../application')); So why use the short-circuit code? Just for the 'coolness' factor of using logic operators in place of control structures? To consolidate nested if statements? Because it's faster?

  • How to encrypt Amazon CloudFront signature for private content access using canned policy

    Has anyone using .net actually worked out how to successfully sign a signature to use with CloudFront private content? After a couple of days of attempts all I can get is Access Denied. I have been working with variations of the following code and also tried using OpenSSL.Net and AWSSDK but that does not have a sign method for RSA-SHA1 yet. The signature (data) looks like this {"Statement":[{"Resource":"http://xxxx.cloudfront.net/xxxx.jpg","Condition":?{"DateLessThan":?{"AWS:EpochTime":1266922799}}}]} This method attempts to sign the signature for use in the canned url. SELECT [t0].[LocationHourID], [t0].[LocationID], [t0].[StoreNumber] FROM [dbo].[Locations_Hours] AS t0 WHERE ([t0].[LocationID] = 4019) I cannot figure out why SubSonic is omitting the nvarchar fields when it generates the SELECT statement. Anyone got any ideas?

    I'm having a problem with LINQ. I have 2 tables (Parent-child relation) Table1: Events (EventID, Description) Table2: Groups (GroupID, EventID(FK), Description) Now i want to create an Event an and a child. Event e = new Event(); e.Description = "test"; Datacontext.Events.InsertOnSubmit(event) Group g = new Group(); g.Description = "test2"; g.EventID = e.EventID; Datacontext.Groups.InsertOnSubmit(g); Datacontext.SubmitChanges(); When i debug, i can see that after inserting the event. the EventID has gotten a new value (auto increment). But when Datacontext.SubmitChanges(); gets called. I get the following exception "The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint ... I know this can be solved by creating a relation in the LINQ diagram between Events and groups. And then setting the entity itself. But i don't want to load the events everytime i ask a list of groups. All i need is some way that when inserting the group fails, the event insert won't be comitted in the database. Sorry if this is a bit unclear, My english isn't really good. Thanks in advance!
