• Salesforce/PHP - Bulk Outbound message (SOAP), Time out issue - See update #2

  Salesforce can send up to 100 requests inside 1 SOAP message. While sending this type of Bulk Ooutbound message request my PHP script finishes executing but SF fails to accept the ACK used to clear the message queue on the Salesforce side of things. Looking at the Outbound message log (monitoring) I see all the messages in a pending state with the Delivery Failure Reason "java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out". If my script has finished execution, why do I get this error? I have tried these methods to increase the execution time on my server as I have no access on the Salesforce side: set_time_limit(0); // in the script max_execution_time = 360 ; Maximum execution time of each script, in seconds max_input_time = 360 ; Maximum amount of time each script may spend parsing request data memory_limit = 32M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume I used the high settings just for testing. Any thoughts as to why this is failing the ACK delivery back to Salesforce? I can process about 25 requests (That are in 1 SOAP response) but once I go over that I get the timeout error in the Salesforce queue. for 50 requests is usually takes my PHP script 86.77 seconds. Could it be Apache? PHP? I have also tested just accepting the 100 request SOAP response and just accepting and sending the ACK the queue clears out, so I know it's on my side of things. I show no errors in the apache log, the script runs fine. I did find some info on the Salesforce site but still no luck. Here is the link. Also I'm using the PHP Toolkit 11 (From Salesforce). Other forum with good SF help Thanks for any insight into this, --Phill UPDATE: If I receive the incoming message and print the response, should this happen first regardless if I do anything else after? Or does it wait for my process to finish and then print the response? UPDATE #2: okay I think I have the problem: PHP uses the single thread processing approach and will not send back the ACK file until the thread has completed it's processing. Is there a way to make this a mutli thread process? Thread #1 - accept the incoming SOAP request and send back the ACK Thread #2 - Process the SOAP request I know I could break it up into like a DB table or flat file, but is there a way to accomplish this without doing that? I'm going to try to close the socket after the ACK submission and continue the processing, cross my fingers it will work.

• Recognize objects in image

  Hello I am in the process of doing a school project, where we have a robot driving on the ground in between Flamingo plates. We need to create an algorithm that can identify the locations of these plates, so we can create paths around them (We are using A Star for that). So far have we worked with AForged Library and we have created the following class, the only problem with this is that when it create the rectangles dose it not take in account that the plates are not always parallel with the camera border, and it that case will it just create a rectangle that cover the whole plate. So we need to some way find the rotation on the object, or another way to identify this. • ASMX Web Services with SOAP Extension

  I am in the process of setting up a web service for an external client to connect to my client's application and update some information. I went the ASMX route (the rest of the application runs on WCF) because I knew the external client could be very difficult to deal with and I was trying to keep everything as simple as possible. They also aren't a .Net shop which makes things worse. After getting the service setup for them I provided the ASMX URL for them to see how to format the SOAP headers/message content. They have since come back and told me their tool is unable to send them in the format required by .Net and I can either come up with a different way to accept messages or we have to go with FTP. Based on this I have been researching how to intercept their message, reformat it the way my service requires it (which means adding two lines), and then let it process. This path led me to SOAP Extensions which I have been trying to work with but can't seem to figure out. When I have my sample application call the web service from the generated code Add Web Reference provides everything works great until I add in my extension. All it currently does is override ChainStream setting an internal stream equal to the one being passed in and returning a new stream, like this: private Stream newStream = null; private Stream oldStream = null; public override Stream ChainStream(Stream stream) { this.oldStream = stream; this.newStream = new MemoryStream(); return newStream; } I also override ProcessMessage and in it take the contents of oldStream and set newStream equal to that and then write to a different stream with an XmlWriter. I take that new stream and using a StreamReader read it into a string, with the end goal being manipulating it here and setting newStream (which is being used by ChainStream) equal to the contents of this. If I either don't use the extension or I don't do anything in ProcessMessage everything seems fine. Any suggestions to this? As a side note, once I get this working with the generated code from the WSDL I will be moving to a WebRequest to try sending the message to the service. Currently that bombs out with a 415 Unsupported Media Type response. I'm trying to keep this post to one question but if anyone has any tips with using a WebRequest to connect to an ASMX service it would be much appreciated!

• Push Trunk or Push Branch to Production

  I'd like to get an idea of some processes on build process with Tortoise SVN. Primarily I'm wondering do you push: The Mainline Trunk A branch after QA has grabbed it into a working copy locally and tested the branch and then some build pushes that branch The problem I have is I work at a craphole (hey, it is what it is and I'm venting on stackoverflow, you better believe it..good way to relieve stress due to complete utter chaos) and we have no formal process for pushing anything. In fact even worse my boss directly codes against production. When I have changes, he pushes the mainline trunk. The problem becomes when I make database changes on our Dev database for lets say Branch A. Well...that breaks Branch B and C. I have like 4 projects going on at once! Why? Well, I will not get into that (chaos). So consequently I rename a table field, or add a field or whatever in SQL Server and walla, now my other branches have stale code pointing to previous field names. So what happens? I have to merge certain changes to this branch, to that branch, etc. It feels like a war zone. Finally, what happens is I try to only merge the minimum. Lets say I made DB changes for Branch A's code but now I had to jump back on Branch B's project. Well I need to merge "some" of A's changes over for those database changes so that B's code is not going to bomb out and is able to work with the new table changes. Finally boss pushes the mainline trunk to production. Now I get an email "you forgot to remove the hyperlink for this". That hyperlink was actually a feature I added in Branch A. But what he's talking about here is he just pushed the mainline trunk to production which now has my merged changes from Branch B and any database scripts for Branch A because remember I had some DB changes and if he pushes code, it's got to reflect those changes thus some partial database changes must also be pushed even if it's not related to this project. Well...I missed the hyperlink, so kill me. Maybe that's why we need a build process boss? (sorry, it's been a nightmare working here which is why this thread is getting so detailed). Anyway, obviously this is a nightmare. And he dictates almost everything. The only reason we have source control is because I've worked on hard core teams and that's the first thing you setup. Well there was none here. Problem is I can't dictate the structure..he does but he's never really used source control!! My God. So we have no QA. This is an e-commerce website. That's another huge issue. So consequently I'm expected to be perfect. That means mainline trunk needs to be perfect for whatever we're pushing, whatever branch feature. Is this luda? wtf do I do? I could go off on him after tying so many times tactfully to explain that we need a freakin build process (not just copy local mainline trunk to production!) but I've tried to push before and got yelled at. So I gave up on that. So it will help me tremendously to know how others are pushing their source from Tortoise to production. I was not the person pushing when I was on previous teams so really I'm not too versed in build processes. We are a fairly good size e-commerce site and get a couple millions hits a month.

  I'm in the process of implementing a cross-platform (Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux) application which will do lots of CPU intensive analysis of financial data. The bulk of the analysis engine will be written in C++ for speed reasons, with a user-accessible scripting engine interfacing with the C++ testing engine. I want to write several scripting front-ends over time to emulate other popular software with existing large user bases. The first front will be a VisualBasic-like scripting language. I'm thinking that LLVM would be perfect for my needs. Performance is very important because of the sheer amount of data; it can take hours or days to run a single run of tests to get an answer. I believe that using LLVM will also allow me to use a single back-end solution while I implement different front-ends for different flavors of the scripting language over time. The testing engine itself will be separated from the interface and testing will even take place in a separate process with progress and results being reported to the testing management interface. Tests will consist of scripting code integrated with the testing engine code. In a previous implementation of a similar commercial testing system I wrote, I built a fast interpreter which easily interfaced with the testing library because it was written in C++ and linked directly to the testing engine library. Callbacks from scripting code to testing library objects involved translating between the formats with significant overhead. I'm imagining that with LLVM, I could implement the callbacks into C++ directly so that I could make the scripting code work almost as if it had been written in C++. Likewise, if all the code was compiled to LLVM byte-code format, it seems like the LLVM optimizers could optimize across the boundaries between the scripting language and the testing engine code that was written in C++. I don't want to have to compile the testing engine every time. Ideally, I'd like to JIT compile only the scripting code. For small tests, I'd skip some optimization passes, while for large tests, I'd perform full optimizations during the link. So is this possible? Can I precompile the testing engine to a .o object file or .a library file and then link in the scripting code using the JIT? Finally, ideally, I'd like to have the scripting code implement specific methods as subclasses for a specific C++ class. So the C++ testing engine would only see C++ objects while the JIT setup code compiled scripting code that implemented some of the methods for the objects. It seems that if I used the right name mangling algorithm it would be relatively easy to set up the LLVM generation for the scripting language to look like a C++ method call which could then be linked into the testing engine. Thus the linking stage would go in two directions, calls from the scripting language into the testing engine objects to retrieve pricing information and test state information and calls from the testing engine of methods of some particular C++ objects where the code was supplied not from C++ but from the scripting language. In summary: 1) Can I link in precompiled (either .bc, .o, or .a) files as part of the JIT compilation, code-generation process? 2) Can I link in code using that the process in 1) above in such a way that I am able to create code that acts as if it was all written in C++?

• Can't run my servlet from tomcat server even though the classes are in package

The servet class is in the appropriate folder (i.e under the package name). I also added the jar files needed in my servlet into lib folder. the web.xml file maps the url and defines the servlet.   I have a script, testforeground.php, that kicks off a background script, testbackground.php, then returns while the background script continues to run until it's finished. Both the foreground and background scripts write to the output file correctly when I run the foreground script from the command line using php-cgi: C:\>php-cgi testforeground.php The above command starts a php-cgi.exe process, then a php-win.exe process, then closes the php-cgi.exe almost immediately, while the php-win.exe continues until it's finished. • SQL Server 2005 Blocking Problem (ASYNC_NETWORK_IO)

  I am responsible for a third-party application (no access to source) running on IIS and SQL Server 2005 (500 concurrent users, 1TB data, 8 IIS servers). We have recently started to see significant blocking on the database (after months of running this application in production with no problems). This occurs at random intervals during the day, approximately every 30 minutes, and affects between 20 and 100 sessions each time. All of the sessions eventually hit the application time out and the sessions abort. The problem disappears and then gradually re-emerges. The SPID responsible for the blocking always has the following features: WAIT TYPE = ASYNC_NETWORK_IO The SQL being run is “(@claimid varchar(15))SELECT claimid, enrollid, status, orgclaimid, resubclaimid, primaryclaimid FROM claim WHERE primaryclaimid = @claimid AND primaryclaimid < claimid)”. This is relatively innocuous SQL that should only return one or two records, not a large dataset. NO OTHER SQL statements have been implicated in the blocking, only this SQL statement. This is parameterized SQL for which an execution plan is cached in sys.dm_exec_cached_plans. This SPID has an object-level S lock on the claim table, so all UPDATEs/INSERTs to the claim table are also blocked. HOST ID varies. Different web servers are responsible for the blocking sessions. E.g., sometimes we trace back to web server 1, sometimes web server 2. When we trace back to the web server implicated in the blocking, we see the following: There is always some sort of application related error in the Event Log on the web server, linked to the Host ID and Host Process ID from the SQL Session. The error messages vary, usually some sort of SystemOutofMemory. (These error messages seem to be similar to error messages that we have seen in the past without such dramatic consequences. We think was happening before, but didn’t lead to blocking. Why now?) No known problems with the network adapters on either the web servers or the SQL server. (In any event the record set returned by the offending query would be small.) Things ruled out: Indexes are regularly defragmented. Statistics regularly updated. Increased sample size of statistics on claim.primaryclaimid. Forced recompilation of the cached execution plan. Created a compound index with primaryclaimid, claimid. No networking problems. No known issues on the web server. No changes to application software on web servers. We hypothesize that the chain of events goes something like this: Web server process submits SQL above. SQL server executes the SQL, during which it acquires a lock on the claim table. Web server process gets an error and dies. SQL server session is hung waiting for the web server process to read the data set. SQL Server sessions that need to get X locks on parts of the claim table (anyone processing claims) are blocked by the lock on the claim table and remain blocked until they all hit the application time out. Any suggestions for troubleshooting while waiting for the vendor's assistance would be most welcome. Is there a way to force SQL Server to lock at the row/page level for this particular SQL statement only? Is there a way to set a threshold on ASYNC_NETWORK_IO waits only?

• can a python script know that another instance of the same script is running... and then talk to it?

  I'd like to prevent multiple instances of the same long-running python command-line script from running at the same time, and I'd like the new instance to be able to send data to the original insance before the new instance commits suicide. How can I do this in a cross-platform way? Specifically, I'd like to enable the following behavior: "foo.py" is launched from the command line, and it will stay running for a long time-- days or weeks until the machine is rebooted or the parent process kills it. every few minutes the same script is launched again, but with different command-line parameters when launched, the script should see if any other instances are running. if other instances are running, then instance #2 should send its command-line parameters to instance #1, and then instance #2 should exit. instance #1, if it receives command-line parameters from another script, should spin up a new thread and (using the command-line parameters sent in the step above) start performing the work that instance #2 was going to perform. So I'm looking for two things: how can a python program know another instance of itself is running, and then how can one python command-line program communicate with another? Making this more complicated, the same script needs to run on both Windows and Linux, so ideally the solution would use only the Python standard library and not any OS-specific calls. Although if I need to have a Windows codepath and an *nix codepath (and a big if statement in my code to choose one or the other), that's OK if a "same code" solution isn't possible. I realize I could probably work out a file-based approach (e.g. instance #1 watches a directory for changes and each instance drops a file into that directory when it wants to do work) but I'm a little concerned about cleaning up those files after a non-graceful machine shutdown. I'd ideally be able to use an in-memory solution. But again I'm flexible, if a persistent-file-based approach is the only way to do it, I'm open to that option. More details: I'm trying to do this because our servers are using a monitoring tool which supports running python scripts to collect monitoring data (e.g. results of a database query or web service call) which the monitoring tool then indexes for later use. Some of these scripts are very expensive to start up but cheap to run after startup (e.g. making a DB connection vs. running a query). So we've chosen to keep them running in an infinite loop until the parent process kills them. This works great, but on larger servers 100 instances of the same script may be running, even if they're only gathering data every 20 minutes each. This wreaks havoc with RAM, DB connection limits, etc. We want to switch from 100 processes with 1 thread to one process with 100 threads, each executing the work that, previously, one script was doing. But changing how the scripts are invoked by the monitoring tool is not possible. We need to keep invocation the same (launch a process with different command-line parameters) but but change the scripts to recognize that another one is active, and have the "new" script send its work instructions (from the command line params) over to the "old" script.

• Windows App. Thread Aborting Issue

  I'm working on an application that has to make specific decisions based on files that are placed into a folder being watched by a file watcher. Part of this decision making process involves renaming files before moving them off to another folder to be processed. Since I'm working with files of all different sizes I created an object that checks the file in a seperate thread to verify that it is "available" and when it is it fires an event. When I run that particular piece of code in unit test it works, the factory object is returned, and the conversion happens correctly. But when I run it within the process I get up to the... moExcelApp = new Application(); part of converting an .xls or .xlsx to a .csv and i get a "Thread was being Aborted" error. Any thoughts? Update: There is a bit more information and a bit of map of how the application works currently. Client Application running FSW On File Created event Creates a FileObject passing in the path of the file. On construction the file is validated: if file exists is true then, Thread toAvailableCheck = new Thread(new ThreadStart(AvailableCheck)); toAvailableCheck.Start(); The AvailableCheck Method repeatedly tries to open a streamreader to the file until the reader is either created or the number of attempts times out. If the reader is opened, it fires the FileAvailable event, if not it fires the FileUnAvailable event, passing back itself in the event. The client application is wired to catch those events from inside the Oncreated event of the FSW. the OnFileAvailable method then calls the rename functionality which contains the excel interop call. If the file is being renamed (not converted, extensions stay the same) it does a move to change the name from the old file name to the new, and if its a conversion it runs a conversion factory object which returns the correct type of conversion based on the extensions of the source file and the destination file name. If it is a simple rename it works w/o a problem. If its a conversion (which is the XLS to CSV object that is returned as a part of the factory) the very first thing it does is create a new application object. That is where the application bombs. When i test the factory and conversion/rename process outside of the thread and in its own unit test the process works w/o a problem. I'm getting the notion that I'm going to have to reconsider the design.

  Hi, I'm trying to Convert a Bitmap (SystemIcons.Question) to a BitmapImage so I can use it in a WPF Image control. I have the following method to convert it to a BitmapSource, but it returns an InteropBitmapImage, now the problem is how to convert it to a BitmapImage. A direct cast does not seem to work. Does anybody know how to do it? • Rendering WPF DrawingGroup to single ImageSource

  Currently I'm using a System.Windows.Media.DrawingGroup to store some tiled images (ImageDrawing) inside the Children-DrawingCollection property. Well the problem is now, this method gets really slow if you display the entire DrawingGroup in an Image control, because my DrawingGroup can contain hundreds or even thousands of small images it can really mess up the performance. So my first thought was to somehow render a single image from all the small ones inside the DrawingGroup and then only display that image, that would be much faster. But as you might have figured out I haven't found any solution so simply combine several images with WPF Imaging. It would really be great if someone could help with this problem or tell me how i can improve the performance with the DrawingGroup or even use another approach. One last thing, currently I'm using a RenderTargetBitmap to generate a single BitmapSource from the DrawingGroup, this approach isn't really faster, but it makes the scrolling and working on the Image control at least a little smoother.

  When I install PIL using easy_install or buildout it installs in such way, that I must do 'import Image', not 'from PIL import Image'. However, if I do "apt-get install python-imaging" or use "pip -E test_pil install PIL", all work fine. I tried to use Brushes.Transparent as the brush when drawing the text, and it was successfully not showing at all. That means I get full transparency to work, but not partial transparency.

My Scanner id is scanning a java.util.String, figured buffering it to memory would reduce I/O since the search here is being performed thousands of times on a relatively small file. The performance increase compared to scanning a BufferedReader(FileReader(File)) was probably less than 1%, the process still looks to be taking a LONG time. I've also traced execution and the slowness of my overall conversion process is definitely between the first and last like of the lookup method. In fact, so much so that I ran a shortcut process to count the number of occurrences of various identifiers in the .csv-style files (I use 2 lookup methods, this is just one of them) and the process completed indexing approx 4 different identifiers for 50,000 records in less than a minute. Compared to 12 hours, that's instant. Some notes (updated): I don't necessarily need the pattern-matching behaviour, I only get the first field of a line of text so I need to match line breaks or use Scanner.nextLine(). All ID numbers I need start at position 0 of a line and run through til the first block of whitespace, after which is the name of the corresponding object. I would ideally want to return a String, not an int locating the line number or start position of the result, but if it's faster then it will still work just fine. If an int is being returned, however, then I would now have to seek to that line again just to get the ID; storing the ID of every line that is searched sounds like a way around that. Anything to help me out, even if it saves 1ms per search, will help, so all input is appreciated. Thankyou! Usage scenario 1: I have a list of objects in file A, who in the old-style system have an id number which is not in file A. It is, however, POSSIBLY in another csv-style file (file B) or possibly still in a .txt report (file C) which each also contain a bunch of other information which is not useful here, and so file B needs to be searched through for the object's full name (1 token since it would reside within the second column of any given line), and then the first column should be the ID number. If that doesn't work, we then have to split the search token by whitespace into separate tokens before doing a search of file C for those tokens as well. Much like a person's name. As per a comment, I will pre-compile the regex for my objectSearchToken, which is just [\r\n]+. What's ending up happening in file C is, every single line is being checked, even the 95% of lines which don't contain an ID number and object name at the start. Would it be quicker to use ^[\r\n]+.*(objectname) instead of two separate regexes? It may reduce the number of _match executions. The more general case of that would be, concatenate all tokensBefore with all tokensAfter, and put a .* in the middle. It would need to be matching backwards through the file though, otherwise it would match the correct line but with a huge .* block in the middle with lots of lines. The above situation could be resolved if I could get java.util.Scanner to return the token previous to the current one after a call to findWithinHorizon. I have another usage scenario. Will put it up asap.

• Serverside image processing

  I am designing a web application that does server side image processing in real time. Processing tasks include applying different effects like grayscale, blur, oil paint, pencil sketch etc on images in various formats. I want to build it using java/servlets which I am already familiar with. I found 3 options, 1) Use pure java imaging libraries like java.awt or http://www.jhlabs.com/ip/index.html 2) Use command line tools like Gimp/ImageMagick 3) Use c,c++ image libraries that have java bindings. I don't know which of the above options is good keeping the performance in mind. It looks like option 2) and 3) are good performance wise, but I want to be sure before I rule out 1). I have also heard gimp cannot be run using command line unless gtk or xwindows is already installed on the server. Will there be any such problems with 2) or 3) while running them server side? Also please suggest any good image processing libraries for this purpose.
