  • VB.NET textbox changed but still hold initial value

    Hi Folks, I've never come across this before: I have a series of text boxes. The text of these boxes get set on page load. then I have a submit button that calls a sub to update the table with the new values (text) in the text box. The problem is it is keeping the original text not the text that is CURRENTLY in the textbox. Anyone come across this before? Or know how to get round it? Cheers, Jonesy

  • Can I have two separate projects, 1 WebForms and 1 ASP.NET MVC, to both point to the same domain?

    Is it possible to setup two separate projects, 1 WebForms and 1 ASP.NET MVC, to both point to the same domain? i.e. both point to different pages within www.somesite.com. Here's some background on the application and why I'm asking. This is a brownfield application that is currently 2.0 WebForms and is full of WebFormy 'goodness' (i.e. ObjectDataSources, FormView controls, UpdatePanels, etc...) There are lost of other 'fun' things in the code base like 600+ Stored Procedures and 200+ line methods in the business layer code that get data from the DB via stored proc, do some processing on the data, build an HTML string using string concatenation and then return that string to the UI layer. What we are planning on doing is developing new features in MVC and slowly converting the existing features over to MVC one at a time. As part of this transition, we will also be re-writing the layers below the UI to clean up the mess there and to do things like replace the stored procedures with NHibernate and introduce an IOC container. I know that you can run WebForms and MVC side-by-side in the same project, however, because we will be making wholesale changes to the way we do many things throughout our entire development stack, I'd like the new stuff to be a completely separate project within the solution. This should help serve as very visual reminder that this is a different way of doing things than before and make it easier to remove the old code as it is no longer needed. What I don't know is, is this even possible? Can two separate project point to the same domain?   • Minimalistic PHP template engine with caching but not Smarty?

    There are loads of questions for "the right" PHP template engine, but none of them is focused on caching. Does anybody know a lightweight, high-quality, PHP 5 based template engine that does the following out of the box: Low-level templating functions (Replacements, loops, and filtering, maybe conditionals) Caching of the parsed results with the possibility to set an individual TTL per item, and of course to force a reload programmatically Extremely easy usage (like Smarty's) Modest in polluting the namespace (the ideal solution would be one class to interact with from the outside application) But not Smarty. I have nothing against, and often use, Smarty, but I am looking for something a bit simpler and leaner. I took a look at Fabien Potencier's Twig that looks very nice and compiles templates into PHP code, but it doesn't do any actual caching beyond that. I need and want a template engine, as I need to completely separate code and presentation in a way that a HTML designer can understand later on, so please no fundamental discussions about whether template engines in PHP make sense. Those discussions are important, but they already exist on SO.

  • .Net System.Mail.Message adding multiple "To" addresses

    I just hit something I think is inconsistent, and wanted to see if I'm doing something wrong, if I'm an idiot, or... MailMessage msg = new MailMessage(); msg.To.Add("[email protected]"); msg.To.Add("[email protected]"); msg.To.Add("[email protected]"); msg.To.Add("[email protected]"); Really only sends this email to 1 person, the last one. To add multiples I have to do this: msg.To.Add("[email protected],[email protected],[email protected],[email protected]"); I don't get it. I thought I was adding multiple people to the "To" address collection, but what I was doing was replacing it. I think I just realized my error -- to add one item to the collection, use .To.Add(new MailAddress("[email protected]")) If you use just a string, it replaces everything it had in its list. Ugh. I'd consider this a rather large gotcha! Since I answered my own question, but I think this is of value to have in the stackoverflow archive, I'll still ask it. Maybe someone even has an idea of other traps that you can fall into.

    I have been building my first ASP.NET MVC web app. I have been using the jQuery autocomplete widget in a number of places like this: <head> $("#model").autocomplete({ source: '<%= Url.Action("Model", "AutoComplete") %>' }); </head> The thing is I have this jQuery code in a number of different places through my web app. So i thought I would create a seperate javascript script (script.js) where I could put this code and then just include it in the master page. Then i can put all these repeated pieces of code in that script and just call them where I need too. So I did this. My code is shown below: In the site.js script I put this function: function doAutoComplete() { $("#model").autocomplete({ source: '<%= Url.Action("Model", "AutoComplete") %>' }); } On the page I have: <head> <script src="../../Scripts/site.js" type="text/javascript"></script> doAutoComplete(); </head> But when I do this I get an Invalid Argument exception and the autocomplete doesnt work. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?Do i need to pass something to the doAutoComplete function?

    === BACKGROUND === Hello, so I've published a Web-App (still in "Beta") which uses the Flickr API to get information for the photos of a particular Flickr user and generates IPB code to post any of his/her images. While Flickr now gives you the IPB code to show the image and link back to the photo site directly on its site, my App also has the option of embeding the title, description, select EXIF data, location information, etc. into the post for the IPB forum. === PROBLEM === I've most recently added the option to integrate a Google Maps image of the photo's geolocation data into the post by using the Google Static Maps API. The problem is that the image URL I have is in the following form (including IPB [IMG] tags): [IMG]http://maps.google.com/maps/api/staticmap?zoom=16&size=600x600&maptype=hybrid&markers=19.387687,-99.251732&sensor=false[/IMG] Which shows this example image (In practice the image size is user selectable): However, some IPB forums seem to not support dyamic image URLs which gives me a broken image, I'd like to replace the [IMG]http://maps.google.com/maps/api/staticmap?zoom=16&size=600x600&maptype=hybrid&markers=19.387687,-99.251732&sensor=false[/IMG] with something like [IMG]http://maps.google.com/maps/api/staticmap/map0000001.png[/IMG] which should be supported by all IPB forums.   • ASP.NET and Winforms: What PDF reporting tools are out there and recommended?

    I have ActiveReports for .Net which is a great tool, however the version I have is not going to support Visual Studio 2010. Active Reports quite pricey, so just wondering if there are any better alternatives out there at a competitive price or even open source, before I consider upgrading. I am looking for a reporting tool specifically, that has a designer and is programmable etc, not looking for something that can just produce PDF, eg iTextSharp etc. Output will primarily be PDF for web and windows applications. Using various databases, SQL Server, SQL Server Express, Azure and SQLite, so not sure SQL Server reporting services will work for all these cases. All coments appreciated.

  • Preserve data in .net mvc

    I am implementing a search module with result page support paging. The example provided by NerdDinner passes pagenumber as a parameter for the Index action, and the action uses the pagenumber to perform a query each time the user hit a different page number. My problem is that my search take many more criteria such as price, material, model number etc. than just simple pagenumber. Therefore, I would like to preserve the criteria after users' first submission, so that I only have to pass the pagenumber back and forth. Using ViewData is not possible because ViewData get cleared once it is sent to the View. Is there any good way to preserve the criteria data as I wish?

    Under a timeline, therefore the salient point is "quickly" and willing to throw some $ at it too (doesn't have to be a free solution). Looking for an RSS feed generator usuable in .NET framework 2.0. Ideally it would be easy to use (inferred quick) but flexible enough to support the multiple standards (shown part way down this page). We have the business classes in .NET and want to publish RSS feeds on the ASP.NET website. Any software that's good? Doesn't have to be free. Must support .NET framework 2.0 Thanks.

  • Why do all my sites randomly stop in iis?

    I have a GoDaddy Account with a virtual hosting environment. For some reason every few weeks, all of our sites (both websites and FTP sites) are stopped. I restart them and they start normally, but I would like to prevent this from happening in the future. It is an iis thing. When you open up iis you can see that each of the sites has been stopped in iis. Also, I have tried looking at the event viewer and I don't see anything, but I am not sure what I am looking for.

    I have a DataGrid and everytime I change value of it's embeded dropdwonlist I get: "System.Web.HttpException: The IListSource does not contain any data sources." I have a data grid which loads fine: Name column is editable. I have a dropdownlist these : DataDataGrid gets its value from a table. (Select Name, Address From Persons) Dropdown list also gets list of names from the same table. So DataGrid and dropdownlist are bound to 2 different datasets. The ModelState says that "The Id field is required", but I haven't set that to be so. Is there something automatic going on here? EDIT - Reason Revealed The reason for the issue is answered by Brad Wilson via Paul Speranza in one of the comments below where he says (cheers Paul): You're providing a value for ID, you just didn't know you were. It's in the route data of the default route ("{controller}/{action}/{id}"), and its default value is the empty string, which isn't valid for an int. Use the [Bind] attribute on your action parameter to exclude ID. My default route was: new { controller = "Customer", action = "Edit", id = " " } // Parameter defaults EDIT - Update Model technique I actually changed the way I did this again by using TryUpdateModel and the exclude parameter array asscoiated with that.   • Using ASP.NET SQL Membership Provider, how do I store my own per-user data?

    I'm using the ASP.NET SQL Membership Provider. So, there's an aspnet_Users table that has details of each of my users. (Actually, the aspnet_Membership table seems to contain most of the actual data). I now want to store some per-user information in my database, so I thought I'd just create a new table with a UserId (GUID) column and an FK relationship to aspnet_Users. However, I then discovered that I can't easily get access to the UserId since it's not exposed via the membership API. (I know I can access it via the ProviderUserKey, but it seems like the API is abstracting away the internal UserID in favor of the UserName, and I don't want to go too far against the grain). So, I thought I should instead put a LoweredUserName column in my table, and create an FK relationship to aspnet_Users using that. Bzzzt. Wrong again, because while there is a unique index in aspnet_Users that includes the LoweredUserName, it also includes the ApplicationId - so in order to create my FK relationship, I'd need to have an ApplicationId column in my table too. At first I thought: fine, I'm only dealing with a single application, so I'll just add such a column and give it a default value. Then I realised that the ApplicationId is a GUID, so it'd be a pain to do this. Not hard exactly, but until I roll out my DB I can't predict what the GUID is going to be. I feel like I'm missing something, or going about things the wrong way. What am I supposed to do?

    I have downloaded the [IIS Diagnostics Toolkit (x86)][1] [1]: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=9bfa49bc-376b-4a54-95aa-73c9156706e7&displaylang=en and I was wondering how to use it. I'm not a system admin just a developer trying to work my way around a strange problem. I have an iis server running php(not my choice) and every once in a while the application will not allow anyone to log in and then a little while later it just starts working again. I look in the event viewer and don't see anything and the iis logs are no help either. I read somewhere about someone using the the toolkit to diagnose there problem. I just need a little guidance on how to use this tool. Thanks.

  • Worker processes not starting in IIS 7.5. What should I check?

    I have a Windows 7 machine (Windows version 6.1.7601 SP1 Build 7601) with IIS installed. At some point the installation appears to have become 'corrupted' in some way, as any requests are now met with the message: Service Unavailable HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable. In IIS manager IIS is started and the app pool I am using reports itself as 'Started', yet there is no w3wp.exe process listed in the process list in task manager (I am a local admin and have clicked the 'Show processes from all users' button. I have enabled logging for the web site (at default location of %SystemDrive%\inetpub\logs\LogFiles), but this folder is empty. I am assuming that this log output is written by w3wp.exe as it handles requests (no w3wp.exe, no log file?). Presumably there is another layer of request handling that is responsible for starting the worker processes, does thsi layer have log files I can check, and/or can I uninstall/re-install that layer?
