• Antenna Aligner Part 7: Connecting the dots

  The app is basically ready, so I eagerly started to sort out creating the application entry in iTunes Connect. It's mostly intuitive actually, although I did have to create yet another icon for iTunes sized 512x512 pixels, damn lucky I did the original graphics as vector! It took me longer to write the application description than anything else, I'm so not a tech author! I didn't like the way you have to 'make up' an SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) number. I have to do some googling to find out that it really doesn't matter what it is! It should be more obvious what to do from the actual website itself. That aside, the rest of it was actually fairly straightforward. As well as the details of the application, iPhone and iPad screenshots were also required. This posed somewhat of a problem. The iPhone ones were easy (as I have one!), but I do not (yet) own an iPad . So I thought I'd leave the iPad screenshots out for now. Once the application details were sorted, I moved onto the rights and pricing. At the start of the project I had made the decision that I wouldn't charge any more than the lowest amount £0.59. I believe there is a market for this, but as my first foray into app development I didn't want to take the mick. I did realise, however, that I had built my app with a developer certificate and provisioning profile. This was fairly quickly corrected, and again Nomad made this very easy to switch over to the distribution certificate and provisioning profile. With a sense of excitement I cracked open iTunes connect and clicked the upload button ... ...slight snag... . when the Nomad project was started, Apple allowed uploads of these binaries via iTunes Connect. But this is no longer possible, the only upload path is via the Application Loader available from the Apple Developer program. This itself has one limitation, it only runs on a mac! D'OH!!!  Actually my language was somewhat more colourful when this fact came to light. After picking my laptop up off the floor and putting it back together... ok only joking, but I did nearly throw it out of frustration!... I started to consider the options; I briefly entertained the idea of buying a cheap mac from ebay... no, that defeats the whole object of what I'm doing, plus my wife wouldn't be impressed there are some guys out there in the interweb who will upload your app for a small fee...but I don't really like the idea of giving some faceless email address my apple developer login details, as well as my app binary! find some willing friend with a mac who would kindly let me use it... obviously this is the only sensible option. In the meantime, I informed the Nomad team about this slight 'issue' and they are currently investigating possible solutions...

• Primefaces tabview: set the active index on tab change

  I've got a tab view that contains two tab. When I switch from tab 1 to tab 2, I'm calling some code that executes a validation and updates some values. Depending on the result of this validation, I would like to stay on tab 1, or go to tab 2, and refresh the tabs' content. I thought adding an update attribute to p:ajax would render the whole tabview but only the tabs and/or the tabs' content is re rendered. And weirdest of all, if I change update=":form:tabview" to update=":form" or update="@form", I only receive the tab's content in the ajax response - the component disappears from the page! My bean is viewscoped, I'm using Primefaces 3.5, JSF 2.1 and Tomcat 7. Any idea? Thanks.

• reading the file name from user input in MIPS assembly

  I'm writing a MIPS assembly code that will ask the user for the file name and it will produce some statistics about the content of the file. • How to interpolate hue values in HSV colour space?

  Hi, I'm trying to interpolate between two colours in HSV colour space to produce a smooth colour gradient. I'm using a linear interpolation, eg: h = (1 - p) * h1 + p * h2 s = (1 - p) * s1 + p * s2 v = (1 - p) * v1 + p * v2 (where p is the percentage, and h1, h2, s1, s2, v1, v2 are the hue, saturation and value components of the two colours) This produces a good result for s and v but not for h. As the hue component is an angle, the calculation needs to work out the shortest distance between h1 and h2 and then do the interpolation in the right direction (either clockwise or anti-clockwise). What formula or algorithm should I use? EDIT: By following Jack's suggestions I modified my JavaScript gradient function and it works well. • CSS layout problem on Firefox with filling space between end of left column and footer

  Basically, the left column is supposed to extend to the footer with the continuous red color. However, in Firefox on pages with lots of text, the column does not extend to the footer and leaves a large white gap--see site: http://library.luhs.org/JHSII/about.html I've tried readjusting the heights, creating the sticky footer, and other things I've read about on this site. So I admit that I'm stumped, and what's really odd is that the layout seems to work in IE as there is no white space! • Complex Entity Framework linked-graphs issue: how to limit change set / break the graph?

  I have an EDMX containing Sentences, and Words, say and a Sentence contains three Words, say. Appropriate FK relationships exist between the tables. I create some words: Word word1 = new Word(); Word word2 = ... I build a Sentence: Sentence x = new Sentence (word1, word2, word3); I build another Sentence: Sentence y = new Sentence (word1, word4, word5); I try to save x to the database, but EF builds a change set that includes everything, including y, word4 and word5 that aren't ready to save to the database. When SaveChanges() happens it throws an exception: Unable to determine the principal end of the ... relationship. Multiple added entities may have the same primary key. I think it does this because Word has an EntityCollection<Sentence> on it from the FK relationship between the two tables, and thus Sentence y is inextricably linked to Sentence x through word1. So I remove the Navigation Property Sentences from Word and try again. It still tries to put the entire graph into the change set. What suggestions do the Entity Framework experts have for ways to break this connection. Essentially what I want is a one-way mapping from Sentence to Word; I don't want an EntityCollection<Sentence> on Word and I don't want the object graph to get intertwined like this. Code sample: This puts two sentences into the database because Verb1 links them and EF explores the entire graph of existing objects and added objects when you do Add/SaveChanges. But in the situation where I've got data files that are separated by commas, I'm currently doing something like: sed 's/,/ /g' data | myprog Can I modify the format string in the fscanf() function to accept both delimitation formats?

• Problems with jQuery getJSON using local files in Chrome

  I have a very simple test page that uses XHR requests with jQuery's $.getJSON and $.ajax methods. The same page works in some situations and not in others. Specificially, it doesn't work in Chrome on Ubuntu. I'm testing on Ubuntu 9.10 with Chrome 5.0.342.7 beta and Mac OSX 10.6.2 with Chrome 5.0.307.9 beta. It works correctly when files are installed on a web server from both Ubuntu/Chrome and Mac/Chrome (try it out here). It works correctly when files are installed on local hard drive in Mac/Chrome (accessed with file:///...). It FAILS when files are installed on local hard drive in Ubuntu/Chrome (access with file:///...).   I've installed Mercurial per MT's knowledge base file here. Working with it server side using ssh from my Mac works fine. I can initialize repositories and the like, but pulling from the server or pushing from my Mac produces an error I don't understand.
