    Case Management is a new addition to Oracle BPM in release 11.1.1.1.7 (PS6). This new release contains the Case Management engine, see blog Léon at  http://leonsmiers.blogspot.nl/ for more details.  However, currently this release does not contain a case portal. The case management API's, just like the already existing Oracle BPM API's, help in developing a portal page with relative ease. This blog will use some real life examples from the EURent casemanagement application and portal application developed by Oracle. The Oracle BPM Case Management API is a Java Based API that enables developers to programmatically access the new Case Management functionalities. It is an elaborate API that can access all the functionalities of Oracle Case Management. I will describe two of those functionalities in this blog: retrieving case data as DOM (http://www.w3.org/DOM/) and attaching a document to a case. Libraries First of all when creating a Case Management project you will need to attach the following libraries: These contain all the classes that are in the Case Management API. Service client To do anything with the BPM CaseManagement API in general it is necessary to create a CaseManagementServiceClient Object. The Case Management service client is the central piece of the Case Management API. It can be used to retrieve two different types of services.   • ObjectStorageHelper<T> now available for Windows 8 RTM

    In October 2011 I wrote a blog post entitled ObjectStorageHelper<T> – A WinRT utility for Windows 8 where I introduced a little utility class called ObjectStorageHelper<T> that I had been working on while noodling around on the Developer Preview of Windows 8. ObjectStorageHelper<T> makes it easy for anyone building apps for Windows 8 to save data to files. How easy? As easy as this: var myPoco = new Poco() { IntProp = 1, StringProp = "one" }; var objectStorageHelper = new ObjectStorageHelper<Poco>(StorageType.Local); await objectStorageHelper.SaveAsync(myPoco); Compare that to the plumbing code that you would have to write otherwise: var Obj = new Poco() { IntProp = 1, StringProp = "one" }; StorageFile file = null; StorageFolder folder = GetFolder(storageType); file = await folder.CreateFileAsync(FileName(Obj), CreationCollisionOption.ReplaceExisting); IRandomAccessStream writeStream = await file.OpenAsync(FileAccessMode.ReadWrite); using (Stream outStream = Task.Run(() => writeStream.AsStreamForWrite()).Result) {     serializer.Serialize(outStream, Obj);     await outStream.FlushAsync(); } and you can see how ObjectStorageHelper<T> can help save a Windows 8 developer quite a few headaches.   • Facebook Comments and page SEO

    Facebook's recently launched commenting system for blogs loads comments in an iframe, instead of loading them inline. Since blog comments can often contribute significantly to the page's SEO, is it a good idea to use Facebook's system on my blog? Or, does Google recognize iframe content as a part of the page and treats it as such? (It's noteworthy that Disqus.com does not use iframes and loads all comments inline)

  • Trying to install wordpress inside rails app with nginx and fastcgi

    I have a rails app (let's call it myapp) running at www.myapp.com. I want to add a wordpress blog at www.myapp.com/blog. The webserver for the rails app is thin (see the upstream block). The wordpress runs with php-fastcgi. The rails app works fine.   • YAHOO and BING support for Index, Image and Mobile sitemaps

    I know Google webmaster supports submitting Image, mobile, video and other types of sitemaps. YAHOO also mentions about mobile site map here. But does it support Image and video sitemaps. I could not find if BING supports any of these types other than XML sitemaps. Can someone please point me to any documentation on submitting Index, Image and Mobile sitemaps. Also does YAHOO and Bing support index sitemap files?

  • Clone an Azure VM using Powershell

    In a few months time I will, in association with Technitrain, be running a training course entitled Introduction to SQL Server Data Tools. I am currently working on putting together some hands-on lab material for the course delegates and have decided that in order to save time in asking people to install software during the course I am simply going to prepare a virtual machine (VM) containing all the software and lab material for each delegate to use. Given that I am an MSDN subscriber it makes sense to use Windows Azure to host those VMs given that it will be close to, if not completely, free to do so. What I don’t want to do however is separately build a VM for each delegate, I would much rather build one VM and clone it for each delegate. I’ve spent a bit of time figuring out how to do this using Powershell and in this blog post I am sharing a script that will: Prompt for some information (Azure credentials, Azure subscription name, VM name, username & password, etc…) Create a VM on Azure using that information Prompt you to sysprep the VM and image it (this part can’t be done with Powershell so has to be done manually, a link to instructions is provided in the script output) Create three new VMs based on the image Remove those three VMs Simply download the script and execute it within Powershell, assuming you have an Azure account it should take about 20minutes to execute (spinning up VMs and shutting the down isn’t instantaneous). If you experience any issues please do let me know. There are additional notes below. Hope this is useful! @Jamiet  Notes: Obviously there isn’t a lot of point in creating some new VMs and then instantly deleting them. However, this demo script does provide everything you need should you want to do any of these operations in isolation. The names of the three VMs that get created will be suffixed with 001, 002, 003 but you can edit the script to call them whatever you like. The script doesn’t totally clean up after itself. If you specify a service name & storage account name that don’t already exist then it will create them however it won’t remove them when everything is complete. The created image file will also not be deleted. Removing these items can be done by visiting http://manage.windowsazure.com. When creating the image, ensure you use the correct name (the script output tells you what name to use): Here are some screenshots taken from running the script: When the third and final VM gets removed you are asked to confirm via this dialog: Select ‘Yes’

  • What does the `dmesg` error: "composite sync not supported" mean?

    Question: I see [ 20.473125] composite sync not supported and several such entries when I run dmesg. What do they mean? Background: I'm trying to debug a problem where my laptop won't suspend. Since acpi seems happy and I can suspend easily from the command line, I've turned to tracking down all boot-up errors/warnings.     I am looking to create a similar tunnel effect in COCOS2D (iOS). Could anyone suggest any pointers? ref Video 1 ref Video 2 Till now I have tried with several ring shape sprites with decreasing scale and positioned center to a same point and keeping Z decreasing as well for each smaller sprite. With that, animating it with CCScaleTo and changing the size to 2.0 with animation duration but it does not come anyway near to the tunnel effect shown in the reference. Thanks, sam

  • AdventureWorks 2014 Sample Databases Are Now Available

      Where in the World is AdventureWorks? Recently, SQL Community feedback from twitter prompted me to look in vain for SQL Server 2014 versions of the AdventureWorks sample databases we’ve all grown to know & love. I searched Codeplex, then used the bing & even the google in an effort to locate them, yet all I could find were samples on different sites highlighting specific technologies, an incomplete collection inconsistent with the experience we users had learned to expect.  I began pinging internally & learned that an update to AdventureWorks wasn’t even on the road map.  Fortunately, SQL Marketing manager Luis Daniel Soto Maldonado (t) lent a sympathetic ear & got the update ball rolling; his direct report Darmodi Komo recently announced the release of the shiny new sample databases for OLTP, DW, Tabular, and Multidimensional models to supplement the extant In-Memory OLTP sample DB.  What Success Looks Like In my correspondence with the team, here’s how I defined success: 1. Sample AdventureWorks DBs hosted on Codeplex showcasing SQL Server 2014’s latest-&-greatest features, including:  In-Memory OLTP (aka Hekaton) Clustered Columnstore Online Operations Resource Governor IO 2. Where it makes sense to do so, consolidate the DBs (e.g., showcasing Columnstore likely involves a separate DW DB) 3. Documentation to support experimenting with these features As Microsoft Senior SDE Bonnie Feinberg (b) stated, “I think it would be great to see an AdventureWorks for SQL 2014.  It would be super helpful for third-party book authors and trainers.  It also provides a common way to share examples in blog posts and forum discussions, for example.”  Exactly.  We’ve established a rich & robust tradition of sample databases on Codeplex.  This is what our community & our customers expect.  The prompt response achieves what we all aim to do, i.e., manifests the Service Design Engineering mantra of “delighting the customer”.  Kudos to Luis’s team in SQL Server Marketing & Kevin Liu’s team in SQL Server Engineering for doing so.
