• In forms application, is there any Alternative to MsgBox?

  I like how MsgBox stops all further processing until it's clicked but I don't like how it pops that little msgbox in the middle of the screen, which I then have bring to the front if there is a window covering it. Is there a way to do something like a msgbox but keep it on my Form (which is always in view) so I can go ahead and click a button on the form instead of having to bring the little msgbox window on top of windows that may be covering it. I use the msgbox to inform me that a certain situation has happened, which I manually fix and when I'm done I click the MsgBox to continue processing. It'd be nice to have this button right on the form.

Is this maybe a power saving function of the laptop?   I'm working on a program to trigger cut and pastes Pastes i have no problem with (i just dump a string into the clipboard) Cut and or Copys are proving to be a little more difficult The program i have is out of focus and has several hot keys registered with the os ( ctrl+alt+2 ctrl+alt+3 etc) that i want to use to trigger Windows to copy anything that is highlighted in the window that is focused I tried doing a sendkeys SendKeys.Send("^c"); but that seems to work once or twice if at all then stop working. is there a better way to try to trigger windows into coping highlighted content on a different window

• jQuery changing css on navigation when div # scrolls into view

  I'm looking to recreate the effect used on this site: http://www.brizk.com/ The site uses one large page that scrolls down. As you scroll down and pass different sections the menu navigation on the left changes css class to "current" as the corresponding div comes into view. I presume this can be done with jQuery using $(window).height(); I'm fairly new to jQuery and what I want to write is something like this (in laymans terms): Get height of browser window – if div#content1 is 100px from top and/or 200px from bottom change menu a#link1 to '.current' – else remove .current from all menu a links ... and repeat for 4 different content divs. Can anyone point me in the right direction..? Thanks.

  I made patterns: images with the "A" letter of different sizes (from 12 to 72: 12, 14, .., 72) And I tested the method of pattern matching and it gave a good results. One way to select text regions from image is to run that algorithm for all small and big letters and digits of different sizes. And fonts! I don't like it. Instead of it I want to make something like a universal pattern or better to say: scanning image with different window sizes and select those regions where some function (probability of that there is a character at that window) is more than some fixed value. Do you know any methods or ideas to make that function? It must work with original image (grayscale).

  I have an iframe containing a form. I want the form to point to a new window when the user submits it. Basically, the following code should do the trick: <?php var_dump($_POST); ?> <form method="post" action="test_post_to_blank.php" target="_blank"> <input type="text" name="test" value="test" /> <input type="submit" /> </form> The problem is that in IE6 a new window is opened with empty POST data. Is there any other way I can get the job done? This does not occur in newer versions of IE. Thanks in advance ;).

• Equal height divs with footer always at bottom of tallest div

  I was wondering if this were possible, and if it is the best way to go about this: example image (since I'm not allowed to post pics yet ^^) So, not only does each column have to be of equal height, but each column also has its own individual footer. I saw this post httx://stackoverflow.com/questions/1347366/div-at-bottom-of-window-and-adaptable-height-div (I also can't post more than one link....) - how could I rework this technique to apply to the bottom of the divs and not the bottom of the window? *edit - each column will have content that will constantly change and be of variable height. I'm thinking I could just figure out the equal height columns first, then just absolute position a footer div within those columns. Does its parent div then have to be position: relative?

• Figuring out the resource a lock in SQL Server 2000 affects

  I am adding a simple web-interface to show data from a commercial off the shelf (COTS) application. This COTS issues locks on any record the user is actively looking at (whether they intend to edit and update it or not). I have found sp_lock and the Microsoft sp_lock2 scripts and can see the locks, so that's all well and good. However, I cannot figure out how I can tell if a specific record I am about to update has been affected by one of these locks. If I submit the update request and there is in fact a lock, the web-interface will wait indefinitely until the user closes the window in the COTS. How can I either: a) determine before issuing an update that the record has been locked OR b) issue an update that will immediately return with a LOCKED status rather than indefinitely waiting on the COTS user to close their window on that record?

• Anyway to find out the current Windows is in lock mode?

  I have a windows application written in VS 2005. The application makes queries against to sql database in a timer cycle every 2 minutes. If there any data changes, the window will be refreshed with new data. If the user leaves the window, the windows will be automatically locked after a while. There is no sense to keep querying data in ever 2 minutes when the windows is locked; therefore I would like to stop the query when lock is on so that the network data trafic will be reduced and also saves the current windows resources such as memory and CPUs. I am not sure if there is any way to find out the current windows is locked? Not sure if there is any Windows APIs for this purpose if no .Net classes available? My project is in .Net 2.0 and all users are in Windows XP.

• How to remove the file which has opened handles?

  PROBLEM HISTORY: Now I use Windows Media Player SDK 9 to play AVI files in my desktop application. It works well on Windows XP but when I try to run it on Windows 7 I caught an error - I can not remove AVI file immediately after playback. The problem is that there are opened file handles exist. On Windows XP I have 2 opened file handles during the playing file and they are closed after closing of playback window but on Windows 7 I have already 4 opened handles during the playing file and 2 of them remain after the closing of playback window. They are become free only after closing the application. QUESTION: How can I solve this problem? How to remove the file which has opened handles? May be exists something like "force deletion"? EDIT: The code should work regardless of the systems DPI setting (e.g. 120 instead of 96).
