  • iPhone SDK: Orientation (Landscape and Portrait views)

    - by domness
Okay, I've got my normal app which is in portrait mode. I can force my app to go to landscape mode for a view (using navigationcontroller and viewcontroller) like this: - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [[UIDevice currentDevice] setOrientation:UIInterfaceOrientationLandscapeRight]; } But then when I go back to the main menu (tableview) it goes straight back to portrait. I try this code: - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [[UIDevice currentDevice] setOrientation:UIInterfaceOrientationPortrait]; } But that doesn't work.. Any ideas?

  • Frustration with generics

    - by sbi
I have a bunch of functions which are currently overloaded to operate on int and string: bool foo(int); bool foo(string); bool bar(int); bool bar(string); void baz(int p); void baz(string p); I then have a bunch of functions taking 1, 2, 3, or 4 arguments of either int or string, which call the aforementioned functions: void g(int p1) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); } void g(string p1) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); } void g(int p2, int p2) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); if(bar(p2)) baz(p2); } void g(int p2, string p2) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); if(bar(p2)) baz(p2); } void g(string p2, int p2) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); if(bar(p2)) baz(p2); } void g(string p2, string p2) { if(foo(p1)) baz(p1); if(bar(p2)) baz(p2); } // etc. (The implementation of the g() family is just a placeholder. actually they are more complicated.) More types than the current int or string might have to be introduced at any time. The same goes for functions with more arguments than 4. The current number of identical functions is barely manageable. Add one more variant in either dimension and the combinatoric explosion will be so huge, it might blow away the application. In C++, I'd templatize g() and be done. I understand that .NET generics are different. <sigh> But I have been fighting them for two hours trying to come up with a solution that doesn't involve too much copy&paste of code. To no avail. Surely, C#/.NET/generics/whatever won't require me to type out identical code for a family of functions taking five arguments of either of three types? So what am I missing here?

  • Is there a way to make ToEnum generic

    - by maxfridbe
    I would like to do this but it does not work. bool TryGetEnum<TEnum, TValue>(TValue value, out TEnum myEnum) { if (Enum.IsDefined(typeof(TEnum), value)) { myEnum = (TEnum)value; return true; } return false; } Example usage: MyEnum mye; bool success = this.TryGetEnum<MyEnum,char>('c',out mye);

  • What is the difference between array parameters in C

    - by STeN
Hi, what is the difference between following function declarations, which create and return the array in C/C++? Both methods create the array and fill it with proper values and returns true if everything passed. bool getArray(int* array); bool getArray(int* array[]); Thanks Best Regards, STeN

  • Shaders with pygtkglext

    - by qba
Do someone know how to get glsl shaders work in gtk-opengl window? With glut all glCreateProgram etc. functions works, but when I tried to put the same gl code into pygtkglext window, its complaining about NullReference: OpenGL.error.NullFunctionError: Attempt to call an undefined function glCreateProgram, check for bool(glCreateProgram) before calling So then I from OpenGL.GL.ARB.shader_objects import *, but the result is similar: OpenGL.error.NullFunctionError: Attempt to call an undefined function glCreateProgramObjectARB, check for bool(glCreateProgramObjectARB) before calling Any idea will be useful.

  • Deriving from a component and implementing IDisposable properly

    - by PaulH
I have a Visual Studio 2008 C# .NET 2.0 CF project with an abstract class derived from Component. From that class, I derive several concrete classes (as in my example below). But, when I go to exit my Form, though the Form's Dispose() member is called and components.Dispose() is called, my components are never disposed. Can anybody suggest how I can fix this design? public abstract class SomeDisposableComponentBase : Component { private System.ComponentModel.IContainer components; protected SomeDisposableComponentBase() { Initializecomponent(); } protected SomeDisposableComponentBase(IContainer container) { container.Add(this); Initializecomponent(); } private void InitializeComponent() { components = new System.ComponentModel.Container(); } protected abstract void Foo(); #region IDisposable Members bool disposed_; /// Warning 60 CA1063 : Microsoft.Design : Ensure that 'SomeDisposableComponentBase.Dispose()' is declared as public and sealed.* public void Dispose() { // never called Dispose(true); GC.SuppressFinalize(this); } protected virtual void Dispose(bool disposing) { // never called if (!disposed_) { if (disposing && (components != null)) { components.Dispose(); } disposed_ = true; } base.Dispose(disposing); } #endregion } public SomeDisposableComponent : SomeDisposableComponentBase { public SomeDisposableComponent() : base() { } public SomeDisposableComponent(IContainer container) : base(container) { } protected override void Foo() { // Do something... } protected override void Dispose(bool disposing) { // never called base.Dispose(disposing); } } public partial class my_form : Form { private SomeDisposableComponentBase d_; public my_form() { InitializeComponent(); if (null == components) components = new System.ComponentModel.Container(); d_ = new SomeDisposableComponent(components); } /// exit button clicked private void Exit_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.Close(); } /// from the my_form.designer.cs protected override void Dispose(bool disposing) { if (disposing && (components != null)) { // this function is executed as expected when the form is closed components.Dispose(); } base.Dispose(disposing); } } *I note that FX-Cop is giving me a hint here. But, if I try to declare that function as sealed, I get the error: error CS0238: 'SomeDisposableComponentBase.Dispose()' cannot be sealed because it is not an override Declaring that function an override leads to: 'SomeDisposableComponentBase.Dispose()': cannot override inherited member 'System.ComponentModel.Component.Dispose()' because it is not marked virtual, abstract, or override Thanks, PaulH

  • Does the type in this KVC validation method matter?

    - by dontWatchMyProfile
For example, in the docs a KVC-style validation method is implemented like this: -(BOOL)validateAge:(id *)ioValue error:(NSError **)outError They used id* as the type for ioValue. Since that's not part of the method signature, I wonder if it would hurt to do something like: -(BOOL)validateAge:(NSNumber *)ioValue error:(NSError **)outError Is this still fine with KVC?

  • Best way to test for a variable's existence in PHP; isset() is clearly broken

    - by chazomaticus
From the isset() docs: isset() will return FALSE if testing a variable that has been set to NULL. Basically, isset() doesn't check for whether the variable is set at all, but whether it's set to anything but NULL. Given that, what's the best way to actually check for the existence of a variable? I tried something like: if(isset($v) || @is_null($v)) (the @ is necessary to avoid the warning when $v is not set) but is_null() has a similar problem to isset(): it returns TRUE on unset variables! It also appears that: @($v === NULL) works exactly like @is_null($v), so that's out, too. How are we supposed to reliably check for the existence of a variable in PHP? Edit: there is clearly a difference in PHP between variables that are not set, and variables that are set to NULL: <?php $a = array('b' => NULL); var_dump($a); PHP shows that $a['b'] exists, and has a NULL value. If you add: var_dump(isset($a['b'])); var_dump(isset($a['c'])); you can see the ambiguity I'm talking about with the isset() function. Here's the output of all three of these var_dump()s: array(1) { ["b"]=> NULL } bool(false) bool(false) Further edit: two things. One, a use case. An array being turned into the data of an SQL UPDATE statement, where the array's keys are the table's columns, and the array's values are the values to be applied to each column. Any of the table's columns can hold a NULL value, signified by passing a NULL value in the array. You need a way to differentiate between an array key not existing, and an array's value being set to NULL; that's the difference between not updating the column's value and updating the column's value to NULL. Second, Zoredache's answer, array_key_exists() works correctly, for my above use case and for any global variables: <?php $a = NULL; var_dump(array_key_exists('a', $GLOBALS)); var_dump(array_key_exists('b', $GLOBALS)); outputs: bool(true) bool(false) Since that properly handles just about everywhere I can see there being any ambiguity between variables that don't exist and variables that are set to NULL, I'm calling array_key_exists() the official easiest way in PHP to truly check for the existence of a variable. (Only other case I can think of is for class properties, for which there's property_exists(), which, according to its docs, works similarly to array_key_exists() in that it properly distinguishes between not being set and being set to NULL.)

  • Logical equality in C

    - by andrew cooke
[It seems odd this doesn't exist, so apologies in advance if it's a duplicate] I want to test for logical equality in C. In other words, I want to know whether two values would be equal if both were converted in the normal way associated with logical expressions. In C99, I think that (bool)a == (bool)b gives what I want. Is that correct? What is the normal way of writing this in traditional C?

  • Looking for Reachability (2.0) Use Case Validation

    - by user350243
There is so much info out there on using Apple's Reachability example, and so much is conflicting. I'm trying to find out of I'm using it (Reachability 2.0) correctly below. My App use case is this: If an internet connection is available through any means (wifi, LAN, Edge, 3G, etc.) a UIButton ("See More") is visible on various views. If no connection, the button is not visible. The "See More" part is NOT critical in any way to the app, it's just an add-on feature. "See More" could be visible or not anytime during the application lifecycle as connection is established or lost. Here's how I did it - Is this correct and/or is there a better way? Any help is Greatly Appreciated! lq // AppDelegate.h #import "RootViewController.h" @class Reachability; @interface AppDelegate : NSObject <UIApplicationDelegate> { UIWindow *window; UINavigationController *navigationController; RootViewController *rootViewController; Reachability* hostReach; // NOT USED: Reachability* internetReach; // NOT USED: Reachability* wifiReach; } @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UIWindow *window; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UINavigationController *navigationController; @property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet RootViewController *rootViewController; @end // AppDelegate.m #import "AppDelegate.h" #import "Reachability.h" #define kHostName @"www.somewebsite.com" @implementation AppDelegate @synthesize window; @synthesize navigationController; @synthesize rootViewController; - (void) updateInterfaceWithReachability: (Reachability*) curReach { if(curReach == hostReach) { NetworkStatus netStatus = [curReach currentReachabilityStatus]; BOOL connectionRequired = [curReach connectionRequired]; // Set a Reachability BOOL value flag in rootViewController // to be referenced when opening various views if ((netStatus != ReachableViaWiFi) && (netStatus != ReachableViaWWAN)) { rootViewController.bConnection = (BOOL *)0; } else { rootViewController.bConnection = (BOOL *)1; } } } - (void) reachabilityChanged: (NSNotification* )note { Reachability* curReach = [note object]; NSParameterAssert([curReach isKindOfClass: [Reachability class]]); [self updateInterfaceWithReachability: curReach]; } - (void)applicationDidFinishLaunching:(UIApplication *)application { // NOTE: #DEFINE in Reachability.h: // #define kReachabilityChangedNotification @"kNetworkReachabilityChangedNotification" [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver: self selector: @selector(reachabilityChanged:) name: kReachabilityChangedNotification object: nil]; hostReach = [[Reachability reachabilityWithHostName: kHostName] retain]; [hostReach startNotifer]; [self updateInterfaceWithReachability: hostReach]; [window addSubview:[navigationController view]]; [window makeKeyAndVisible]; } - (void)dealloc { [navigationController release]; [rootViewController release]; [window release]; [super dealloc]; } @end

  • How to interpret Objective-C errors?

    - by Greg Maletic
I'm getting the following error: 2010-05-11 17:46:28.475 MyApp[54112:5e1b] bool _WebTryThreadLock(bool), 0x140faa0: Tried to obtain the web lock from a thread other than the main thread or the web thread. This may be a result of calling to UIKit from a secondary thread. Crashing now... Is there any way for me to figure out where [54112:5e1b] is in my code, so I can try to narrow down the error? Thanks.

  • problem with fifos linux

    - by nunos
I am having problem debugging why n_bytes in read_from_fifo function in client.c doesn't correspond to the value written to the fifo. It should only write 25 bytes but it tries to read a lot more (1836020505 bytes (!) to be exact). Any idea why this is happening? server.c: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <string.h> #include <errno.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <fcntl.h> #include <sys/wait.h> #include <signal.h> #include <pthread.h> #include <sys/stat.h> typedef enum { false, true } bool; //first read the int with the number of bytes the data will have //then read that number of bytes bool read_from_fifo(int fd, char* var) { int n_bytes; if (read(fd, &n_bytes, sizeof(int))) { printf("going to read %d bytes\n", n_bytes); if (read(fd, var, n_bytes)) printf("read var\n"); else { printf("error in read var. errno: %d\n", errno); exit(-1); } } return true; } int main() { mkfifo("/tmp/foo", 0660); int fd = open("/tmp/foo", O_RDONLY); char var[100]; read_from_fifo(fd, var); printf("var: %s\n", var); return 0; } client.c: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <string.h> #include <errno.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <fcntl.h> typedef enum { false, true } bool; //first write to fd a int with the number of bytes that will be written afterwards bool write_to_fifo(int fd, char* data) { int n_bytes = (strlen(data)) * sizeof(char); printf("going to write %d bytes\n", n_bytes); if (write(fd, &n_bytes, sizeof(int) != -1)) if (write(fd, data, n_bytes) != -1) return true; return false; } int main() { int fd = open("/tmp/foo", O_WRONLY); char data[] = "some random string abcdef"; write_to_fifo(fd, data); return 0; } Help is greatly appreciated. this is the method definition: public static bool TryValidateObject( Object instance, ValidationContext validationContext, ICollection<ValidationResult> validationResults, bool validateAllProperties ) what i am confused is the validateAllProperties parameter, I understand when it is true-validate all properties. What about when it is false, not validate all properties, but which property will be validated?

  • check if directory exists c#

    - by Ant
I am trying to see if a directory exists based on an input field from the user. When the user types in the path, I want to check if the path actually exists. I have some c# code already. It returns 1 for any local path, but always returns 0 when I am checking a network path. static string checkValidPath(string path) { //Insert your code that runs under the security context of the authenticating user here. using (ImpersonateUser user = new ImpersonateUser(user, "", password)) { //DirectoryInfo d = new DirectoryInfo(quotelessPath); bool doesExist = Directory.Exists(path); //if (d.Exists) if(doesExist) { user.Dispose(); return "1"; } else { user.Dispose(); return "0"; } } } public class ImpersonateUser : IDisposable { [DllImport("advapi32.dll", SetLastError = true)] private static extern bool LogonUser(string lpszUsername, string lpszDomain, string lpszPassword, int dwLogonType, int dwLogonProvider, out IntPtr phToken); [DllImport("kernel32", SetLastError = true)] private static extern bool CloseHandle(IntPtr hObject); private IntPtr userHandle = IntPtr.Zero; private WindowsImpersonationContext impersonationContext; public ImpersonateUser(string user, string domain, string password) { if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(user)) { // Call LogonUser to get a token for the user bool loggedOn = LogonUser(user, domain, password, 9 /*(int)LogonType.LOGON32_LOGON_NEW_CREDENTIALS*/, 3 /*(int)LogonProvider.LOGON32_PROVIDER_WINNT50*/, out userHandle); if (!loggedOn) throw new Win32Exception(Marshal.GetLastWin32Error()); // Begin impersonating the user impersonationContext = WindowsIdentity.Impersonate(userHandle); } } public void Dispose() { if (userHandle != IntPtr.Zero) CloseHandle(userHandle); if (impersonationContext != null) impersonationContext.Undo(); } } Any help is appreciated. Thanks! EDIT 3: updated code to use BrokenGlass's impersonation functions. However, I need to initialize "password" to something... EDIT 2: I updated the code to try and use impersonation as suggested below. It still fails everytime. I assume I am using impersonation improperly... EDIT: As requested by ChrisF, here is the function that calls the checkValidPath function. Frontend aspx file... $.get('processor.ashx', { a: '7', path: x }, function(o) { alert(o); if (o=="0") { $("#outputPathDivValid").dialog({ title: 'Output Path is not valid! • C++ Class Access Specifier Verbosity

    - by PolyTex
A "traditional" C++ class (just some random declarations) might resemble the following: class Foo { public: Foo(); explicit Foo(const std::string&); ~Foo(); enum FooState { Idle, Busy, Unknown }; FooState GetState() const; bool GetBar() const; void SetBaz(int); private: struct FooPartialImpl; void HelperFunction1(); void HelperFunction2(); void HelperFunction3(); FooPartialImpl* m_impl; // smart ptr FooState m_state; bool m_bar; int m_baz; }; I always found this type of access level specification ugly and difficult to follow if the original programmer didn't organize his "access regions" neatly. Taking a look at the same snippet in a Java/C# style, we get: class Foo { public: Foo(); public: explicit Foo(const std::string&); public: ~Foo(); public: enum FooState { Idle, Busy, Unknown }; public: FooState GetState() const; public: bool GetBar() const; public: void SetBaz(int); private: struct FooPartialImpl; private: void HelperFunction1(); private: void HelperFunction2(); private: void HelperFunction3(); private: FooPartialImpl* m_impl; // smart ptr private: FooState m_state; private: bool m_bar; private: int m_baz; }; In my opinion, this is much easier to read in a header because the access specifier is right next to the target, and not a bunch of lines away. I found this especially true when working with header-only template code that wasn't separated into the usual "*.hpp/*.inl" pair. In that scenario, the size of the function implementations overpowered this small but important information. My question is simple and stems from the fact that I've never seen anyone else actively do this in their C++ code. Assuming that I don't have a "Class View" capable IDE, are there any obvious drawbacks to using this level of verbosity? Any other style recommendations are welcome!

  • C# MultiThread Safe Class Design
