  • loading fixtures for django tests

    - by alexarsh

I have cms_sample app and a fixtures folder inside with cms_sample_data.xml I use the following in my test.py: class Funtionality(TestCase): fixtures = ['cms_sample_data'] I do use TestCase of django.tests and not unittest. But the fixtures are not loaded. What am I missing? Thanks, Arshavski Alexander.

  • How to run qtestlib unit tests from QtCreator

    - by extropy
I am developing a GUI application in Qt Creator and want to write some unit tests for it. I followed This guide to make some unit tests with QtTestlib and the program compiles fine. But how do I run them? I would like them to be run before the GUI app starts if debug buid and not run if release build.

  • Error while creating tests in Visual Studio

    - by Benjol
When I try to generate a unit test for the following method (in a public static class) private static string[] GetFields(string line, char sep) { char[] totrim = { '"', ' ' }; return line.Split(sep).Select(col => col.Trim(totrim)).ToArray(); } The Tests output says: While trying to generate your tests, the following errors occurred: This method or property cannot be called within an event handler. It works if I make the function public - I've tried running Publicize.exe manually, it doesn't complain, but doesn't make any difference either.

  • Integrating YUI tests with CruiseControl

    - by Dan R
I am using YUI to test my JavaScript app, and want to integrate the test results into my CruiseControl build system. How can I use CruiseControl to run the tests? I initially thought about using the JUnit plugin to drive the tests, but that is a no go. Does anyone else have this working? (Please note: Changing either YUI or CruiseControl isn't an option for me.)

  • Common utility functions for Perl .t tests

    - by zedoo
Hi I am getting started with Test::More, already have a few .t test scripts. Now I'd like to define a function that will only be used for the tests, but accross different .t files. Where's the best place to put such a function? Define another .t without any tests and require it where needed? (As a sidenote I use the module structure created by Module::Starter)

  • who wrote 250k unit tests for webkit?

    - by amwinter
assuming a yield of 3 per hour, that's 83000 hours. 8 hours a day makes 10,500 days, divide by thirty to get 342 mythical man months. I call them mythical because writing 125 tests per person per week is unreal. can any wise soul out there on SO shed some light on what sort of mythical men write unreal quantities of tests for large software projects? thank you.

  • Run PHPUnit Tests in Certain Order

    - by dragonmantank
Is there a way to get the tests inside of a TestCase to run in a certain order? For example, I want to seperate the lifecycle of an object from creation to use to destruction but need to make sure that the object is set up first before I run the other tests.

  • Include Unit tests in the same package as the source code in Java

    - by TheDelChop
Guys, I'm getting back into Java after a long stint in the Ruby world and I've got a question about JUnit tests and the source I'm testing. If I've got a package of graphics code for my company, lets call it com.example.graphics, should I include my tests in that package too or should they be included in a seperate package, like com.example.graphics.test? Thanks, Joe

  • Run NUnit 2.5.5 tests in Gallio 3.1

    - by Daz Lewis
Hi, I'm trying to get Gallio running some existing NUnit tests but they're not showing in Gallio. The assembly loads into Gallio fine and I can run them fine via Resharper within the VS IDE. I created a really simple NUnit test in VS and this also doesn't show so I know it's not something weird in my existing tests. Any ideas?

  • Simulating a missing gem in Ruby unit tests

    - by ktex
Is there any way to simulate the absence of a gem for certain unit tests, short of actually uninstalling and then reinstalling the gem during testing? I am writing a command line utility, and want to make sure that my tests cover cases where a user may not have all of the gems that I support. For instance, I am using fsevents — a Leopard-specific package for monitoring filesystem events — that will never be present on other systems, as well as a growl gem that's purely optional.

  • How deep are your unit tests?

    - by John Nolan
The thing I've found about TDD is that its takes time to get your tests set up and being naturally lazy I always want to write as little code as possible. The first thing I seem do is test my constructor has set all the properties but is this overkill? My question is to what level of granularity do you write you unit tests at? ..and is there a case of testing too much?

  • Perfom python unit tests via a web interface

    - by 47
Is it possible to perform unittest tests via a web interface...and if so how? EDIT: For now I want the results...for the tests I want them to be automated...possibly every time I make a change to the code. Sorry I forgot to make this more clear

  • Selenium tests: html vs code?

    - by gustavogb
Is it better to write/record selenium tests in html format and run them directly in the server with "-htmlSuite" or to write the tests in java/C#/... and run them in the server using selenium-rc? What is the recommended solution?

  • Global.asax for Unit Tests?

    - by AngryHacker
In my MSTest UnitTest project, before running any tests, I need to execute some commands. Is there a feature, kind of like Global.asax is for web based projects, that will let me kick off something before any tests run?

  • How to run tests in plugins?

    - by Daniel Engmann
We have splitted our grails application into several inplace-plugins. Now we want to have the tests in the same plugin like the classes which they test. Is it possible to configure our application (e.g. in BuildConfig.groovy) so that the tests in the plugins are executed too when we run "test-app"?

  • Creating Tests at Runtime

    - by James Thigpen
Are there any .NET testing frameworks which allow dynamic creation of tests without having to deal with a hokey Attribute syntax? Something like: foreach (var t in tests) { TestFx.Run(t.Name, t.TestDelegate); } But with the test reporting as you would expect... I could do something like this with RowTests et al, but that seems hokey.

  • Python/Django tests running only one test at a time

    - by user2876296
    I have a unittest for my view class TestFromAllAdd(TestCase): fixtures = ['staging_accounts_user.json', 'staging_main_category.json', 'staging_main_dashboard.json', 'staging_main_location.json', 'staging_main_product.json', 'staging_main_shoppinglist.json'] def setUp(self): self.factory = RequestFactory() self.c = Client() self.c.login(username='admin', password='admin') def from_all_products_html404_test(self): request = self.factory.post('main/adding_from_all_products', {'product_id': ''}) request.user = User.objects.get(username= 'admin') response = adding_from_all_products(request) self.assertEqual(response.status_code, 404) But I have a few more classes with tests and I cant run them all at the same time: python manage.py test main doesnt run tests, but if i run; python manage.py test main.TestFromAllAdd.from_all_products_html404_test , runs one test;

  • How can I write automated tests for iptables?

    - by Phil Frost
I am configuring a Linux router with iptables. I want to write acceptance tests for the configuration that assert things like: traffic from some guy on the internet is not forwarded, and TCP to port 80 on the webserver in the DMZ from hosts on the corporate LAN is forwarded. An ancient FAQ alludes to a iptables -C option which allows one to ask something like, "given a packet from X, to Y, on port Z, would it be accepted or dropped?" Although the FAQ suggests it works like this, for iptables (but maybe not ipchains as it uses in the examples) the -C option seems to not simulate a test packet running through all the rules, but rather checks for the existence for an exactly matching rule. This has little value as a test. I want to assert that the rules have the desired effect, not just that they exist. I've considered creating yet more test VMs and a virtual network, then probing with tools like nmap for effects. However, I'm avoiding this solution due to the complexity of creating all those additional virtual machines, which is really quite a heavy way to generate some test traffic. It would also be nice to have an automated testing methodology which can also work on a real server in production. How else might I solve this problem? Is there some mechanism I might use to generate or simulate arbitrary traffic, then know if it was (or would be) dropped or accepted by iptables?

  • How to refactor an OO program into a functional one?

    - by Asik
I'm having difficulty finding resources on how to write programs in a functional style. The most advanced topic I could find discussed online was using structural typing to cut down on class hierarchies; most just deal with how to use map/fold/reduce/etc to replace imperative loops. What I would really like to find is an in-depth discussion of an OOP implementation of a non-trivial program, its limitations, and how to refactor it in a functional style. Not just an algorithm or a data structure, but something with several different roles and aspects - a video game perhaps. By the way I did read Real-World Functional Programming by Tomas Petricek, but I'm left wanting more.

  • Is it dangerous to substitute unit tests for user testing? [closed]

    - by MushinNoShin
Is it dangerous to substitute unit tests for user testing? A co-worker believes we can reduce the manual user testing we need to do by adding more unit tests. Is this dangerous? Unit tests seem to have a very different purpose than user testing. Aren't unit tests to inform design and allow breaking changes to be caught early? Isn't that fundamentally different than determining if an aspect of the system is correct as a whole of the system? Is this a case of substituting apples for oranges?

  • How do I check that my tests were not removed by other developers?

    - by parxier
I've just came across an interesting collaborative coding issue at work. I've written some unit/functional/integration tests and implemented new functionality into application that's got ~20 developers working on it. All tests passed and I checked in the code. Next day I updated my project and noticed (by chance) that some of my test methods were deleted by other developers (merging problems on their end). New application code was not touched. How can I detect such problem automatically? I mean, I write tests to automatically check that my code still works (or was not deleted), how do I do the same for tests? We're using Java, JUnit, Selenium, SVN and Hudson CI if it matters.

  • What Are Some Tips For Writing A Large Number of Unit Tests?

    - by joshin4colours
I've recently been tasked with testing some COM objects of the desktop app I work on. What this means in practice is writing a large number (100) unit tests to test different but related methods and objects. While the unit tests themselves are fairly straight forward (usually one or two Assert()-type checks per test), I'm struggling to figure out the best way to write these tests in a coherent, organized manner. What I have found is that copy and Paste coding should be avoided. It creates more problems than it's worth, and it's even worse than copy-and-paste code in production code because test code has to be more frequently updated and modified. I'm leaning toward trying an OO-approach using but again, the sheer number makes even this approach daunting from an organizational standpoint due to concern with maintenance. It also doesn't help that the tests are currently written in C++, which adds some complexity with memory management issues. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  • Making Separate Assemblies For Different Types Of Tests For The Same Component?

    - by sooprise
I was told by a few members here that splitting up my unit tests into different assemblies for different components is the best way to structure unit tests. Now, I have a few questions about that idea. What are the advantages of this? Organization, and isolation of errors? Let's say I have a component named "calculator", and I create an assembly for the unit tests on "calculator". Would I create a separate assembly for the integration tests I want to run on "calculator"? Or is the definition of an integration test a test across multiple components, like "calculator" and whatever else, which would require a separate assembly to test both of them together? In that case, would I have one assembly to do all of the integration testing for every component combination?
