But I cannot add those modules on running kernel. # pwd /lib/modules/2.6.32-131.0.15.el6.x86_64 # ls | grep ko usbip_common_mod.ko usbip.ko vhci-hcd.ko # modprobe usbip FATAL: Error inserting usbip (/lib/modules/2.6.32-131.0.15.el6.x86_64/usbip.ko): Required key not available # insmod usbip.ko insmod: error inserting 'usbip.ko': -1 Required key not available How can I add it? Do I need to rebuild whole kernel? TIA, giobuon

  • Macbook Pro - Randomly sleeps and won't wake up

    - by James
All, I have a Macbook Pro 13" (mid 2009) that has had a long time issues which seems to be getting worse. Occasionally, I will go to wake the computer with the keyboard and can't wake it. The HDD spins up, the light on the front of the computer stops blinking, but as soon as it seems like the display should light up, the HDD stops and the light begins blinking again. More rarely, the computer will suddenly sleep while I am using it and then enters the same sleep loop. The only way to resume working on the computer is to wait. Doing a hard restart just puts it right back into the 'sleep loop.' Here is an excerpt from kernel.log showing the laptops apparent narcolepsy: Jun 5 22:20:40 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: Wake reason: OHC1 Jun 5 22:20:40 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: Previous Sleep Cause: 5 Jun 5 22:20:40 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 6 of Hub at 0x4000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2) Jun 5 22:20:40 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: HID tickle 31 ms Jun 5 22:20:41 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: 00000000 00000020 NVEthernet::setLinkStatus - not Active Jun 5 22:20:45 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: MacAuthEvent en1 Auth result for: 20:4e:7f:48:c0:ef MAC AUTH succeeded Jun 5 22:20:45 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: wlEvent: en1 en1 Link UP Jun 5 22:20:45 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: AirPort: Link Up on en1 Jun 5 22:20:45 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: en1: BSSID changed to 20:4e:7f:48:c0:ef Jun 5 22:20:46 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: AirPort: RSN handshake complete on en1 Jun 5 22:20:48 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: 00000000 00000020 NVEthernet::setLinkStatus - not Active Jun 5 22:20:54 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: Jun 5 22:20:55 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: Wake reason: OHC1 Jun 5 22:20:55 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: Previous Sleep Cause: 5 Jun 5 22:20:55 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 6 of Hub at 0x4000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2) Jun 5 22:20:55 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: wlEvent: en1 en1 Link DOWN Jun 5 22:20:55 james-hales-macbook-pro kernel[0]: AirPort: Link Down on en1. • Compiling the Linux kernel, how much size is needed?

    - by ant2009
I have downloaded the newest most stable Linux kernel, 2.6.33.2. I thought I would test this using VirtualBox. So I create a dynamically sized harddisk of 4 GB. And installed CentOS 5.3 with just the minimum packages. I setup the make menuconfig with just the default settings. After that I ran make and got the following error: net/bluetooth/hci_sysfs.o: final close failed: No space left on device make[2]: *** [net/bluetooth/hci_sysfs.o] Error 1 make[1]: *** [net/bluetooth] Error 2 make: *** [net] Error 2 The amount of space I have left is: # df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 3.3G 3.3G 0 100% / /dev/hda1 99M 12M 82M 13% /boot tmpfs 125M 0 125M 0% /dev/shm My virtual size is 4 GB, but the actual size is 3.5 GB. $ ls -hl total 7.5G -rw-------. 1 root root 3.5G 2010-04-13 14:08 LFS.vdi How much size should I give when compiling and installing a Linux kernel? Are there any guidelines to follow when doing this? This is my first time, so just experimenting with this.

  • ORACLE using function parametes in where claus

    - by Gainder
Hello, I have created a simple static function in oracle 10g to get the reference of an object based on his pk. STATIC FUNCTION getRef(nome IN VARCHAR2) RETURN REF folder_typ IS fl_r REF folder_typ := null; BEGIN SELECT REF(fl) INTO fl_r FROM folder_tab fl WHERE fl.nome = nome; RETURN fl_r; END getRef; This gives me an error because he could't fetch the row. If insted of WHERE fl.nome = nome; I write WHERE fl.nome = 'folder1'; insted of passing it as parameter it works. I think im not using the parameter in the right way. How can I use it?

    Hi Guys, I have an application build in C#, for saving sms, MMS and contacts from the mobile attached via data cable. i am able to save sms and contacts but it gives an error of invalid parameters, my code for saving is if (iRet == PCCSErrors.CONA_OK) { dataVersit = (CAContentAccess.CADataDefinitions.CA_DATA_VERSIT)Marshal.PtrToStructure(bufData, typeof(CAContentAccess.CADataDefinitions.CA_DATA_VERSIT)); byte[] bVersitObject = new byte[dataVersit.iDataLength]; Marshal.Copy(dataVersit.pbVersitObject, bVersitObject, 0, dataVersit.iDataLength); System.IO.Stream ios = System.IO.File.Open(fileDlg.FileName, System.IO.FileMode.Create); ios.Write(bVersitObject, bVersitObject.GetLowerBound(0), dataVersit.iDataLength); ios.Flush(); ios.Close(); } else { PCCAPIUtils.ShowErrorMessage("CAReadItem", iRet); }

  • Possible to write an implement of RAIDZ or RAIDZ2 for the MD driver in the Linux kernel?

    - by Pharaun
I am curious on if it is possible to have an implement of RAIDZ and/or RAIDZ2 in the MD driver in the Linux kernel? From my understanding of it is that the RAIDZ version is equivalent to a RAID 5, and that a RAIDZ2 is equivalent to a RAID 6. The main difference is that the stripe size can be variable for RAIDZ as opposite to RAID 5/6 from my understanding, which helps performance. So what I am wondering is would it be possible to add this performance enhancing technique to RAID 5 & 6 in the MD driver in the kernel? Or is it tied too closely to how the ZFS works?

  • First Come, First Served process scheduling

    - by user253530
i have 4 processes: p1 - bursts 5, priority: 3 p2 - bursts 8, priority: 2 p3 - bursts 12, priority: 2 p4 - bursts 6, priority: 1 Assuming that all processes arrive at the scheduler at the same time what is the average response time and average turnaround time? For FCFS is it ok to have them in the order p1, p2, p3, p4 in the execution queue?

  • How to create proc under /proc/driver?

    - by Mustika_wiguna
I want to create a proc file under /proc/driver directory. I would like to use a macro like proc_root_driver (or something else provided) rather than use "driver/MODULE_NAME" explicitly. I use create_proc_entry : ... struct proc_dir_entry *simpleproc_fops_entry; simpleproc_fops_entry = create_proc_entry(MODULE_NAME, 0400, NULL /* proc_root_dir */); ... After googling, I found suggestion to use proc_root_driver, but when I use it, error "proc_root_driver undeclared in this function". And also, proc_root_driver is not available in linux/proc_fs.h. I have tried to declare structure like this: struct proc_dir_entry proc_root; struct proc_dir_entry *proc_root_driver = &proc_root; Errors gone, but proc file didn't exist under /proc/driver or /proc Anyone here can help me? Thanks in advances.

  • NULL pointer dereference in swiotlb_unmap_sg_attrs() on disk IO

    - by Inductiveload
I'm getting an error I really don't understand when reading or writing files using a PCIe block device driver. I seem to be hitting an issue in swiotlb_unmap_sg_attrs(), which appears to be doing a NULL dereference of the sg pointer, but I don't know where this is coming from, as the only scatterlist I use myself is allocated as part of the device info structure and persists as long as the driver does. There is a stacktrace to go with the problem. It tends to vary a bit in exact details, but it always crashes in swiotlb_unmap_sq_attrs(). I think it's likely I have a locking issue, as I am not sure how to handle the locks around the IO functions. The lock is already held when the request function is called, I release it before the IO functions themselves are called, as they need an (MSI) IRQ to complete. The IRQ handler updates a "status" value, which the IO function is waiting for. When the IO function returns, I then take the lock back up and return to request queue handling. The crash happens in blk_fetch_request() during the following: if (!__blk_end_request(req, res, bytes)){ printk(KERN_ERR "%s next request\n", DRIVER_NAME); req = blk_fetch_request(q); } else { printk(KERN_ERR "%s same request\n", DRIVER_NAME); } where bytes is updated by the request handler to be the total length of IO (summed length of each scatter-gather segment).

  • Where can I get a Linux distro iso based on a 2.4 kernel?

    - by Mike
I need to get my hands on an ISO file for a Linux distribution with a 2.4 kernel. I'm looking for an ISO specifically so I can use it with my Oracle VirtualBox. Since 2.4 is so old these days, I'll explain that I'm looking for it because my company uses an ancient 2.4 uClinux distro on our ancient hardware in our devices. I'd like to run some "desktop" tests using the same kernel version as what's in the hardware. As far as I can tell I can't run uCLinux on a desktop, so next best thing, I'd like to get anything running 2.4.

  • Wifi works but doesn't start automatically on ubuntu 11.10

    - by Nikita Kononov
Good evening everyone, I have got an issue which I hope you will help me to solve. I was trying to update my Kernel in ubuntu from this web-site http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.2-rc4-oneiric/ And everything went smooth. But, for some reason, my wifi doesn't work in new Kernel so I decided to switch back to my old one 3.0.0-17 generic and to my surprise WIFI doesn't start automatically eventhou it was working. What I mean is that I have to click on wifi icon and put a mark Enable Wireless. This is not a really serious issue but I don't like switch on everytime at log in my WIFI because before that it was working when system started. What is the cause of this and how to fix it. Thank you very much for you help.

  • AMD FX CPU drivers/patch

    - by Mubeen Shahid
I am using Ubuntu since 2009 on notebooks with Intel CPUs. However now, that I am using AMD's FX 6300, I am interested in knowing if there exists anything from Ubuntu (specifically any kernel enhancements/drivers/patches) for AMD's FX "family 15h" Piledrivers. Reason: I would like to have a kernel which uses the hardware to its full capacity, be able to use the latest instruction sets, for max. performance. I did some tests, started with compiling stable 3.9.7 on my 12.04 LTS box, and during compilation I choose processor vendor AMD (unchecked Intel/VIA/etc.), and when I started Ubuntu with this compiled kernel, in the section "System Settings - Additional Drivers" I found that, in addition to graphic card's drivers, there were AMD family 15h drivers also. However, I would prefer something in this regard tested/signed by Ubuntu developers. P.S: 1- the kernel that I have compiled has some issues with Nvidia graphics drivers, so I deleted kernel 3.9.7 and installed signed 3.8.xx from Ubuntu repositories. 2- incase if somebody is planning to advise me to install "AMD64", I am not talking about AMD64 (which is in fact for 64-bit platform).

  • Realtek RTL8168/8111E onboard NIC not recognized - the everlasting problem?

    - by Nikioko
I used the newest vendor driver for my onboard NIC (board: ASUS M5A97 Pro) and those sites to get it running on kernel 3.0: http://www.twm-kd.com/linux/realtek-rtl81688111e-and-ubuntu-linux/ The problem now is, that this doesn't work with either kernel 3.1 or 3.2: https://code.google.com/p/r8168/issues/detail?id=6 My question is: does anyone have a solution to get it run on the newest kernel? Or is this a plaque I have to carry forever?

  • Steps to rebuild gspca_kinect driver module?

    - by Bobby Ray
I recently purchased a Kinect for Windows and quickly discovered that the camera drivers included in linux kernel 3.0+ aren't compatible with the Kinect for Windows hardware revision. After looking at the source code it seems like a tiny modification is all that is required for compatibility, so I've been trying to recompile the driver - to no avail. I've been referring to this article and this one as well, though they are a bit outdated. When I try to compile the module, I get an error because the header file "gspca.h" can't be found in the include path. I located the missing header in my filesystem, but the file itself is empty. I've also tried downloading the kernel source (3.2.0-24-generic), which allowed me to compile the module, but when I load the module I get an error. -1 Unknown symbol in module Is there a standard way to go about this without first building the kernel? Will building the kernel ensure that I can build the module? Thanks

  • Context switches much slower in new linux kernels

    - by Michael Goldshteyn
We are looking to upgrade the OS on our servers from Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Unfortunately, it seems that the latency to run a thread that has become runnable has significantly increased from the 2.6 kernel to the 3.2 kernel. In fact the latency numbers we are getting are hard to believe. Let me be more specific about the test. We have a program that has two threads. The first thread gets the current time (in ticks using RDTSC) and then signals a condition variable once a second. The second thread waits on the condition variable and wakes up when it is signaled. It then gets the current time (in ticks using RDTSC). The difference between the time in the second thread and the time in the first thread is computed and displayed on the console. After this the second thread waits on the condition variable once more. So, we get a thread to thread signaling latency measurement once a second as a result. In linux 2.6.32, this latency is somewhere on the order of 2.8-3.5 us, which is reasonable. In linux 3.2.0, this latency is somewhere on the order of 40-100 us. I have excluded any differences in hardware between the two host hosts. They run on identical hardware (dual socket X5687 {Westmere-EP} processors running at 3.6 GHz with hyperthreading, speedstep and all C states turned off). We are changing the affinity to run both threads on physical cores of the same socket (i.e., the first thread is run on Core 0 and the second thread is run on Core 1), so there is no bouncing of threads on cores or bouncing/communication between sockets. The only difference between the two hosts is that one is running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with kernel 2.6.32-28 (the fast context switch box) and the other is running the latest Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with kernel 3.2.0-23 (the slow context switch box). Have there been any changes in the kernel that could account for this ridiculous slow down in how long it takes for a thread to be scheduled to run?

  • Debugging random reboots

    - by M132
I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 with 3.16.1 kernel compiled from source, and when I leave my PC running for a long time, it always reboots after about 4-8 days. Nothing is displayed on the screen, everything just freezes for about 3 seconds (and if there was any sound playing, it keeps repeating over and over), and then reboots. This issue also affects kernels compiled by Canonical's build bots. I already tried to debug it with: rsyslog kexec-tools netconsole kernel module None of them seem to be working however. Are there any better methods to check, what exactly fails here? If there's an issue with RAM for example, shouldn't kernel report this in dmesg, or cause a kernel panic?

  • Update Grub on Squeeze - Kernel downgrade due VMware Server

    - by vodoo_boot
Hi! I happen to run into various problems regarding grub and kernels. I don't really care about the kernel internas. All I want is VMware server in that dedicated root-server. 1.) What is a bzImage vs. vmlinuz? kaze:~# ls /boot/ System.map-2.6.32-5-amd64 bzImage-2.6.33.2 config-2.6.33.2 initrd.img-2.6.32-5-amd64 System.map-2.6.33.2 bzImage-2.6.35.6 config-2.6.35.6 vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-amd64 System.map-2.6.35.6 config-2.6.32-5-amd64 grub I updated my menu.lst (grub2): timeout 5 default 0 fallback 1 title 2.6.32.5 kernel (hd0,1)/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-5-amd64 root=/dev/sda2 panic=60 noapic acpi=off title 2.6.35.6 kernel (hd0,1)/boot//bzImage-2.6.35.6 root=/dev/sda2 panic=60 noapic acpi=off title 2.6.32.3 kernel (hd0,1)/boot//bzImage-2.6.33.2 root=/dev/sda2 panic=60 noapic acpi=off That doesn't do well... I think the vmlinuz file is missing initrd or so. Dunno. In fact I don't give too much about kernel boot voodoo as long as it works. update-grub(2) does not work. Does anybody know what magical trick there is to get the 2.6.32-5 booting? 2.) I thought t follow the Deban wiki.. I cannot get header-files for the installed 35.6 or 33.2 kernel in the repositories. I cannot build foreign headers because they will not match the running kernel. So how does one deal with that situtation? I'd prefer not to have to downgrade the kernel. Thanks for any answers!

  • Apparmor not starting with kernel LSM error

    - by Roberto Aloi
Starting apparmor on a Ubuntu Lucid Lynx gives the following: user@host:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor start * Starting AppArmor profiles * AppArmor not available as kernel LSM. ...fail! Googling a bit, I found the following bug report - marked as fixed -: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/375422 Which seems to be my exact case. My kernel is 2.6.32-21-generic. Any idea on how to solve the issue?
