    We have a .NET application talking to Oracle 10g. Our DBA recently pulled a list of queries where executions is equal to parse_calls. We assumed that this would help us find all of the unparameterized queries in our code. Unexpectedly, the following query showed up near the top of this list, with 1,436,169 executions and 1,436,151 parses: SELECT bar.foocolumn FROM bartable bar, baztable baz WHERE bar.some_id = :someId AND baz.another_id = :anotherId AND baz.some_date BETWEEN bar.start_date AND (nvl(bar.end_date, baz.some_date + (1/84600)) - (1/84600)) Why is executions equal to parse_calls for this query?

    Hi, I am trying to make a materialized view in Oracle (I am a newbie, btw). For some reason, it doesn't like the presence of sub-query in it. I've been trying to use LEFT OUTER JOIN instead, but it's returning different data set now.     According to my last question about how to create folder here I find some codes that s.b before write it! looking : (sorry for limitation i cant put codes here) they try to Create a bat file,by oracle outfile text_IO,file_type then they write these statement! body_of_file = 'Net use x: \\address' body_of_file += 'md' || filename body_of_file += 'start '|| file name then open bat file and write inside it! then they call it by HOST!!!! like: Host('cmd /c \\address\.x.bat host_folder'|| sysdate); but they can easily and directly by calling HOST! and also I dont know why they code just can in oracle 6i!!!! we use 2 oracle 6i and 10g. please would you help me : 1- why this code dont work in 10g? 2- which way is better?create a batch file and create folder or use HOST for run each command?(in my Idea both is same,How about u?)

In my Administration-Tool (TOAD) I can see them very well: "Mantel für Damen" (Jacket for Women) This is my C# Code (simplified): var oracleCommand = new OracleCommand(sqlGetArticles, databaseConnection); var articleResult = oracleCommand.ExecuteReader(); string temp = articleResult.Read()["SomeField"].ToString(); Console.WriteLine(temp); The output is: "Mantel f?r Damen" Tryed on Debugging (moving mouse over variable), Debug-Window, Console-Window, File. I think I have to specify the Encoding/Character Set somwhere. But where?

    I have to generate some update statements based off a table in our database. I created the following script which is generating the update statements I need. But when I try to run those scripts I am getting errors pertaining to unescaped single quotes in the content and &B, &T characters which have special meaning in oracle. I took care of the &B and &T problem by setting SET DEFINE OFF. Whats the best way to escape single quotes within the content?   • Where can I find a list of 'Stop' words for Oracle fulltext search?

    I've a client testing the full text (example below) search on a new Oracle UCM site. The random text string they chose to test was 'test only'. Which failed; from my testing it seems 'only' is a reserved word, as it is never returned from a full text search (it is returned from metadata searches). I've spent the morning searching oracle.com and found this which seems pretty comprehensive, yet does not have 'only'. So my question is thus, is 'only' a reserved word. Where can I find a complete list of reserved words for Oracle full text search (10g)? Full text search string example; (<ftx>test only</ftx>) Update. I have done some more testing. Seems it ignores words that indicate places or times; only, some, until, when, while, where, there, here, near, that, who, about, this, them. Can anyone confirm this? I can't find this in on Oracle anywhere. Update 2. Post Answer I should have been looking for 'stop' words not 'reserved'. Updated the question title and tags to reflect.

    I would like to synchronize access to a particular insert. Hence, if multiple applications execute this "one" insert, the inserts should happen one at a time. The reason behind synchronization is that there should only be ONE instance of this entity. If multiple applications try to insert the same entity,only one should succeed and others should fail. One option considered was to create a composite unique key, that would uniquely identify the entity and rely on unique constraint. For some reasons, the dba department rejected this idea. Other option that came to my mind was to create a stored proc for the insert and if the stored proc can obtain a global lock, then multiple applications invoking the same stored proc, though in their seperate database sessions, it is expected that the stored proc can obtain a global lock and hence serialize the inserts. My question is it possible to for a stored proc in oracle version 10/11, to obtain such a lock and any pointers to documentation would be helpful.

    Hi, We're getting this error once a day on a script that runs every two hours, but at different times of the day. ERROR at line 1: ORA-04068: existing state of packages has been discarded ORA-04061: existing state of package body "PACKAGE.NAME" has been invalidated ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called: "PACKAGE.NAME" ORA-06512: at line 1 Could someone list what conditions can cause this error so that we could investigate? Thanks. UPDATE: Would executing 'ALTER SESSION CLOSE DATABASE LINK DBLINK' invalidate a state of the package?
