• Blank Cacti Graphs

  I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and I'm having an issue with Cacti 0.8.8b not displaying any data in graphs. The graphs are being created and I see files in /var/lib/cacti/rra. The device in cacti shows that that it's able to query snmp and ping is alive. The graphs are still empty though. snmpwalk 127.0.0.1 -v2c -c public works as it should. It walks all MIBs. I'm quite perplexed as to why this isn't working any longer. It was graphing data but then it just stopped. And when it was graphing data it was graphing it intermittently. Edit MySQL Data This may be the coolest feature so far; users will be able to edit the data in a MySQL table using MS Excel in a very friendly and intuitive way.  Edit Data supports inserting new rows, deleting existing rows and updating existing data as easy as playing with data in an Excel’s spreadsheet and pushing changes back to the server.  Also this version contains the following bug fixes: Enabled the following checkboxes in the Append Data's Advanced Options dialog and added code in the Append Data dialog to use the checkboxes as follows: Automatically store the column mapping for the given table     If checked the current mapping will be stored automatically after clicking the Append button if the append operation is successful and there is no mapping for the current connection.schema.table already; the new mapping is stored with a proposed name of Mapping. Reload stored column mapping for the selected table automatically     If checked the first Stored Mapping found where all column names in the source grid match all column names in the target grid is automatically selected and applied when the Append Data dialog is loaded. Fixed code in Append Data that applies a stored column mapping to skip target columns where the associated mapping is empty (saved as a -1). Enclosed the Add-In's startup code in a try-catch block in order to log any possible error thrown during startup; and added information messages to the log at the beginning of the Add-In's startup code and at the end of the shutdown code.  Also changed the wrapper method that calls the MySQLUtility to write messages to the log to make logging easier, thus changed the log call throughout all the code that contains a try-catch block. Added code to the main wix configuration file to check if a newer version is already installed and if so abort the installation Fixed code to refresh the Import Procedure Form's preview grid's data source to repaint its contents every time the Call button is pressed. Added code to re-pull connections after connections are migrated from Excel to Workbench. Fixed code so when the Append Data's Automatic Mapping is performed any subsequent change on a mapping resets the mapping to a Manual Mapping. Added code to the InfoDialog class to set the button text to "Show Details" or "Hide Details" depending on the status of the Details text container. Fixed a GUID in the main wix configuration file so now previous versions are uninstalled during a new installation. Added an option to the Export Data's Advanced Options dialog to remove columns with no data, by default the Export Dialog will only flag those columns as Excluded. Added code to display a warning and paint a column red if the column name in the Export Data dialog is not set, display a warning if the table name is not set, and stack warnings but not display them if a column is Excluded, warnings are displayed normally for columns if they are not Excluded anymore.  Added code to prevent the Append and Export of Data if more than 1 selection is made (selecting more than 1 area holding the Ctrl key while selecting Excel cells). Fixed problem that prevented MySQL for Excel from loading when Display settings in Windows 7 is set to Adjust to Best Performance (Oracle bug 14521405 - UNHANDLED EXCEPTION IS THROWN WHEN LOADING MYSQL FOR EXCEL). Fixed code that renames the auto-generated Primary Key column when the Table name changes since it was not detecting if a column with the same name already existed in the table. The column duplication was not actually happening, it looked that way because the automatically generated PK column was not detecting a column had that same name. Fixed code in Export Data dialog to always set an empty string instead of null to the MySQLDataColumn properties that stores MySQL data types (MySQLDataType, RowsFrom1stDataType and RowsFrom2ndDataType). Added code to display a warning and color red a column which Data Type has not been set by the user or has been manually cleared. Added code to output to the application log exception messages consistently in all places where exceptions are catched. • Web services, J2EE, Spring, DB integration project ideas - maybe data mining related?

  I am a graduate Computer Science student (Data Mining and Machine Learning) and have good exposure to core Java (3 years). I have read up on a bunch of stuff on the following topics: Design patterns, J2EE Web services (SOAP and REST), Spring, and Hibernate Java Concurrency - advanced features like Task and Executors. I would now like to do a project combining this stuff -- over my free time of course -- to get a better understanding of these things and to kind of make an end to end software (to learn the best design principles etc + SVN, maven). Any good project ideas would be really appreciated. I just want to build this stuff to learn, so I don't really mind re-inventing the wheel. Also, anything related to data mining would be an added bonus as it fits with my research but is absolutely not necessary since this project is more to learn to do large scale software development.

• Part 1 - 12c Database and WLS - Overview

  The download of Oracle 12c database became available on June 25, 2013.  There are some big new features in 12c database and WebLogic Server will take advantage of them. Immediately, we will support using 12c database and drivers with WLS 10.3.6 and 12.1.1.  When the next version of WLS ships, additional functionality will be supported (those rows in the table below with all "No" values will get a "Yes).  The following table maps the Oracle 12c Database features supported with various combinations of currently available WLS releases, 11g and 12c Drivers, and 11g and 12c Databases. I plan to write some related blog articles not to duplicate existing product documentation but to introduce the features, provide some examples, and tie together some information to make it easier to understand. How do you get started with 12c?  The easiest way is to point your data source at a 12c database.  The only change on the WLS side is to update the URL in your data source (assuming that you are not just upgrading your database).  You can continue to use the 11.2.0.3 driver jar files that shipped with WLS 10.3.6 or 12.1.1.  You shouldn't see any changes in your application.  You can take advantage of enhancements on the database side that don't affect the mid-tier.  On the WLS side, you can take advantage of using Global Data Service or connecting to a tenant in a multi-tenant database transparently. If you want to use the 12c client jar files, it's a bit of work because they aren't shipped with WLS and you can't just drop in ojdbc6.jar as in the old days.  You need to use a matched set of jar files and they need to come before existing jar files in the CLASSPATH.  The MOS article is written from the standpoint that you need to get the jar files directly - download almost 1G and install over 600M footprint to get 15 jar files.  Assuming that you have the database installed and you can get access to the installation (or ask the DBA), you need to copy the 15 jar files to each machine with a WLS installation and get them in your CLASSPATH.  You can play with setting the PRE_CLASSPATH but the more practical approach may be to just update WL_HOME/common/bin/commEnv.sh directly.  There's a change in the transaction completion behavior (read the MOS) so if you think you might run into that, you will want to set -Doracle.jdbc.autoCommitSpecCompliant=false.  Also if you are running with Active GridLink, you must set -Doracle.ucp.PreWLS1212Compatible=true (how's that for telling you that this is fixed in WLS 12.1.2).  Once you get the configuration out of the way, you can start using the new ojdbc7.jar in place of the ojdbc6.jar to get the new JDBC 4.1 API's.  You can also start using Application Continuity.  This feature is also known as JDBC Replay because when a connection fails you get a new one with all JDBC operations up to the failure point automatically replayed.  As you might expect, there are some limitations but it's an interesting feature.  Obviously I'm going to focus on the 12c database features that we can leverage in WLS data source.  You will need to read other sources or the product documentation to get all of the new features.

• Development platform for 2D web and mobile games

  Is there a game development platform -- similar to Torque, or Unity -- which can be used to deploy 2D games on the following platforms: Web iOs Android Xbox Live Arcade (Preferred but not required) And which has an integrated or mature physics engine? Perhaps, even a built in editor? I've looked at the following possibilities but I've found something missing in each one. Of course in each case I may be guilty of misconception. Corona SDK (No web deployment, no windows support) Torque 2D (No web deployment) Flash + Flash Punk or Flixel (No native android deployment, and I'm not sure if it is stable on mobile platforms) Unity + SpriteManager2 (Not really optimised for 2D games, and I haven't seen enough advanced 2D examples -- like say platformers -- to really have any confidence in using it for something like this) Has anyone had any luck with this?

• HDWF [was OHDF]

  Acronyms, acronyms ... same name (Oracle Healthcare Data Warehouse Foundation). Now it goes by HDWF. Don't ask me why. HDWF Version 2.0 was released quietly on 12 May. I'm told it is available on eDelivery. I've been spending more time working on HDWF this month. There's no question Oracle is moving at full-steam on this one. I've even spent a few nights this week working on India time with the team over there. We're busy moving Oracle's Operating Room Analytics application onto the new HDWF enterprise healthcare model. It's really been a great illustration of the comprehensiveness of the model. It was easily able accomodate all of the information required by ORA downstream.

• Any thoughts on Squarespace as a blogging platform?

  I'd like to start a blog and I'm leaning towards a hosted, paid platform. I don't want to maintain a Web server. I also don't want the hosting company to put their own ads or branding on my site. Squarespace looks interesting, though kind of pricey. About the same price as TypePad I guess. (I might consider TypePad, but I personally find their UI difficult to use.) WordPress is cheaper but I think they're more known for their software than their hosting. Has anyone tried Squarespace? Are there other options I should consider? Thanks.

  I'm interested in dabbling in Nintendo DS, 3DS, or GBA development. I would like to know what my (legal) options for development tools and IDEs are. In particular, I would not consider moving in this direction unless I can find: A programming language that has managed memory (garbage collection) A unit testing tool akin to JUnit, NUnit, etc. for unit tests I would also prefer if other tools exist, like code-coverage, etc. for that platform. But the main thing is managed memory and unit testing. What options are out there?

Auch Oracle selbst legt noch mal nach: Zu den 50 Spezialisierungen im OPN Programm werden bis Ende des Jahres weitere 20 hinzukommen, die das Programm für Branchen wie das Gesundheitswesen, Energieversorger oder Retail attraktiv machen sollen.   Just wrapping up the contents of the November 2012 issue of Profit... I found this snippet of an interview I did with Team Oracle mechanics Clyde Greene and Chad Colberg when I was in Gary, IN this summer working on a photo shoot about Team Oracle for the current issue. We were standing around in a hangar as the Team prepared for the Chicago Air and Water Show, chatting about the engineering and design of the Oracle Challenger III aerobatic plane. • Smart Grid Gateway and New Meter Data Management released

  Two products have just been released and are available from edlivery.oracle.com. Smart Grid Gateway 2.0.0 - A new product to integrate to Smart Grid networks Meter Data Management 2.0.1 - A new version of the Meter Data Management product. These products are the first products to use the brand new version of the Oracle Utilities Applicaton Framework (V4.1). The new framework builds up on FW2.2 and FW4.0.2 to add exciting new features (this is just a subset): Support for Database Vault Enhancements to Business Object Maintenance Batch Statistics Portal for benchmarking Custom template user exit support File permissions now consistent with other Oracle products Use of Universal Connection Pool for all database pool access Ability to manage the batch data cache Over the next few weeks I will be publishing articles and updates to existing whitepapers to highlight all the new features.

• Live examples of the Windows Azure Platform running Java and Ruby on Rails
