    The run-up to Oracle OpenWorld 2010 San Francisco--and the launch of Fusion Applications--was a busy time for many of us working on the applications business at Oracle. The great news was that the Oracle Applications general sessions, sessions, demogrounds and other programs were very well attended and well received. Unfortunately, for this blog, the work wasn't done there. Yes, there haven't been many additional blog entries since the previous one, which one industry analyst told us "That's a good post!" That being said, our New Year's Resolution is to blog more frequently about what's been keeping us busy since Oracle OpenWorld San Francisco.   • Cloning a WebCenter Portal Managed Server

    I had to run some tests on a WebCenter Portal application deployed in a cluster. I've got a development VM with WebCenter PS4 (this also works on PS5) and I was trying to figure out how could I easily add a new managed server to my single-node domain, and make it a cluster. Creating the machine and cluster are a piece of cake, you can do it pretty quick through WLS Console. Now, you'd guess that using the clone option on WLS Console would do the magic of cloning an existing instance, right? Well, it does, but all you get is an "empty" managed server: with no target libraries.  It was a good surprise to find that WebCenter provides a way of cloning an existing WebCenter Portal managed server through a simple WLST command: cloneWebCenterManagedServer  This is a screenshot of my starting point. I want to clone WC_CustomPortal managed server: These are the steps to clone my WC_CustomPortal managed server: 1. In the command line, invoke WLST. It should be on <ORACLE_HOME_for_component>/common/bin/wlst.sh. In my case, it is ./product/Middleware/WebCenterPortal/common/bin/wlst.sh 2. Connect to the Admin Server:  connect ('<wls_admin_username>','<password>','t3://<server>:<port>') 3. Execute the following command: wls:/webcenter/serverConfig> cloneWebCenterManagedServer(baseManagedServer='WC_CustomPortal', newManagedServer='WC_CustomPortal2', newManagedServerPort=8893, verbose=1) I've turned on verbose output on purpose so I could see what the script was doing while executing.   • web.xml - Java Servlet Filters and WebSphere - URL Pattern issues

    Hi, So we are running a web application that has been tested on Tomcat, Glassfish, WebLogic and WebSphere. All run correctly except WebSphere. The issue is that filters are not processed for files under a certain directory. For example I have a filter that checks the user's lanuage from browser cookies and another that get the user's username, in the web.xml there are configured like so: <!-- ****************************** --> <!-- * Security context filtering * --> <!-- ****************************** --> <filter> <filter-name>SetSecurityContextFilter</filter-name> <filter-class> com.test.security.SecurityContextServletFilter </filter-class> </filter> <!-- ****************************** --> <!-- ** Locale context filtering ** --> <!-- ****************************** --> <filter> <filter-name>SetLocaleFilter</filter-name> <filter-class> com.test.locale.LocaleServletFilter </filter-class> </filter> <filter-mapping> <filter-name>SetSecurityContextFilter</filter-name> <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern> </filter-mapping> <filter-mapping> <filter-name>SetLocaleFilter</filter-name> <url-pattern>/*</url-pattern> </filter-mapping> Both filters set a static threadlocal variable which can be accessed from a static getter, but when the same file 'test.jsp' invokes the getters, under 'contextroot/js' they return the default values (as if unset) while under 'contextroot/pages' they are correct. Namely, that it needs to match not only on a node's attribute at one level, but also on the value of an attribute a node level below that, to get that node's value.   • Proper way to implement IXmlSerializable?

    Once a programmer decides to implement IXmlSerializable, what are the rules and best practices for implementing it? I've heard that GetSchema() should return null and ReadXml should move to the next element before returning. Are these true? And what about WriteXml: should it write a root element for the object or is it assumed that the root is already written? How should child objects be treated and written. Here's a sample of what I have now.   • Java parsing XML document gives "Content not allowed in prolog." error

    I am writing a program in Java that takes a custom XML file and parses it. I'm using the XML file for storage. I am getting the following error in Eclipse. [Fatal Error] :1:1: Content is not allowed in prolog. org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: Content is not allowed in prolog. at com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.parsers.DOMParser.parse(DOMParser.java:239) at com.sun.org.apache.xerces.internal.jaxp.DocumentBuilderImpl.parse(DocumentBuilderImpl.java:283 ) at javax.xml.parsers.DocumentBuilder.parse(DocumentBuilder.java:208) at me.ericso.psusoc.RequirementSatisfier.parseXML(RequirementSatisfier.java:61) at me.ericso.psusoc.RequirementSatisfier.getCourses(RequirementSatisfier.java:35) at me.ericso.psusoc.programs.RequirementSatisfierProgram.main(RequirementSatisfierProgram.java:23 ) The beginning of the XML file is included: <?xml version="1.0" ?> <PSU> <Major id="IST"> <name>Information Science and Technology</name> <degree>B.S.</degree> <option> Information Systems: Design and Development Option</option> <requirements> <firstlevel type="General_Education" credits="45"> <component type="Writing_Speaking">GWS</component> <component type="Quantification">GQ</component> The program is able to read in the XML file but when I call DocumentBuilder.parse(XMLFile) to get a parsed org.w3c.dom.Document, I get the error above. It doesn't seem to me that I have invalid content in the prolog of my XML file. I can't figure out what is wrong. Please help. Thanks.
