  • Can I create a custom roleprovider through a WCF service?

    I have a web application that accesses a database through a wcf service. The idea is to abstract the data from the web application using the wcf service. All that works fine but I am also using the built in roleprovider using the SqlRoleManager which does access the aspnetdb database directly. I would like to abstract the roleprovider by creating a custom roleprovider in a wcf service and then accessing it through the wcf service. I have created the custom role provider and it works fine but now I need to place it in a wcf service. So before I jump headlong into trying to get this to work through the WCF service, I created a second class in the web application that accessed the roleprovider class and changed my web config roleprovider parameters to use that class. So my roleprovider class is called, "UcfCstRoleProvider" and my web.config looks like this: <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="UcfCstRoleProvider"> <providers> <add name="UcfCstRoleProvider" type="Ucf.Security.Wcf.WebTests.UcfCstRoleProvider, Ucf.Security.Wcf.WebTests" connectionStringName="SqlRoleManagerConnection" applicationName="SMTP" /> </providers> </roleManager> My class starts like this: public class UcfCstRoleProvider : RoleProvider { private readonly WindowsTokenRoleProvider _roleProxy = new WindowsTokenRoleProvider(); public override string ApplicationName { get { return _roleProxy.ApplicationName; } set { _roleProxy.ApplicationName = value; } } As I said, this works fine. So the second class is called BlRoleProvider that has identical properties and parameters as the roleprovide but does not implement RoleProvider. I changed the web.config to point to this class like this: <roleManager enabled="true" defaultProvider="BlRoleProvider"> <providers> <add name="UcfCstRoleProvider" type="Ucf.Security.Wcf.WebTests.BlRoleProvider, Ucf.Security.Wcf.WebTests" connectionStringName="SqlRoleManagerConnection" applicationName="SMTP" /> </providers> </roleManager> But I get this error. "Provider must implement the class 'System.Web.Security.RoleProvider'." I hope I have explained well enough to show what I am trying to do. If I can get the roleprovider to work through another class in the same application, I am sure it will work through the WCF service but how do I get past this error? Or maybe I took a wrong turn and there is a better way to do what I want to do??

  • WPA2 authentication fails on Ubuntu 12.04 using Rosewill RNX-N1

    Decided to reduce the clutter in the house and replace a wired connection with a wireless one on my wife's system using USB network device Rosewill RNX-X1. I can see and connect to unprotected network, but WPA2 authentication repeatedly fails. RNX-X1 works on other systems (including TV); also have 2 of 'em and tried each. Worth noting that I recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink and so switched routers. The system connected successfully to previous router (Linksys EA4500) using WPA2. Would think it is the router (Actiontec C1000A) but all other devices (TV, iPad, Windows, Blackberry, and Squeezebox) connect ok. Would appreciate some diagnostic guidance and insight (phrased for a newbie!)   • With sqlalchemy how to dynamically bind to database engine on a per-request basis

    I have a Pylons-based web application which connects via Sqlalchemy (v0.5) to a Postgres database. For security, rather than follow the typical pattern of simple web apps (as seen in just about all tutorials), I'm not using a generic Postgres user (e.g. "webapp") but am requiring that users enter their own Postgres userid and password, and am using that to establish the connection. That means we get the full benefit of Postgres security. Complicating things still further, there are two separate databases to connect to. Although they're currently in the same Postgres cluster, they need to be able to move to separate hosts at a later date. We're using sqlalchemy's declarative package, though I can't see that this has any bearing on the matter. Most examples of sqlalchemy show trivial approaches such as setting up the Metadata once, at application startup, with a generic database userid and password, which is used through the web application. This is usually done with Metadata.bind = create_engine(), sometimes even at module-level in the database model files. My question is, how can we defer establishing the connections until the user has logged in, and then (of course) re-use those connections, or re-establish them using the same credentials, for each subsequent request. We have this working -- we think -- but I'm not only not certain of the safety of it, I also think it looks incredibly heavy-weight for the situation. Inside the __call__ method of the BaseController we retrieve the userid and password from the web session, call sqlalchemy create_engine() once for each database, then call a routine which calls Session.bind_mapper() repeatedly, once for each table that may be referenced on each of those connections, even though any given request usually references only one or two tables. So the create_engine() calls occur on every request... I can see that being needed, and the Connection Pool probably caches them and does things sensibly. But calling Session.bind_mapper() once for each table, on every request? Seems like there has to be a better way. Obviously, since a desire for strong security underlies all this, we don't want any chance that a connection established for a high-security user will inadvertently be used in a later request by a low-security user.

  • How do I simulate overprinting in Adobe Reader?

    On both Mac and Windows when I print a document there is an advanced screen that allows me to select an option called Simulate Overprinting, however such an option doesn't appear on the Ubuntu version. Wikipedia on overprinting: Overprinting refers to the process of printing one colour on top of another in reprographics. This is closely linked to the reprographic technique of 'trapping'. Another use of overprinting is to create a rich black (often regarded as a colour that is "blacker than black") by printing black over another dark colour. This is an issue for us, as we're trying to print documents that need flattening (this is what overprinting does). Am I missing something here, is there a way to enable overprinting on printed PDFs? Note: Please don't confuse simulate overprinting with overprint preview, of which doesn't apply when printing. Just to show you what I'm looking for, this is the Print > Advanced screen... And this is what I see on the Ubuntu screen, not no option for overprinting

  • WPA2 authentication fails using USB network devices (Linksys and Rosewill)

    Decided to reduce the clutter in the house and replace a wired connection with a wireless one on my wife's system using USB network device Rosewill RNX-X1. I can see and connect to unprotected network, but WPA2 authentication repeatedly fails. Tried the same with a Linksys USB network adapter. Both failed to authenticate. Worth noting that I recently switched from Comcast to CenturyLink and so switched routers. The system connected successfully to previous router (Linksys EA4500) using WPA2. Would think it is the router (Actiontec C1000A) but all other devices (TV, iPad, Windows, Blackberry, and Squeezebox) connect ok. Would appreciate some diagnostic guidance and insight (phrased for a newbie!)   • SQL CLR Stored Procedure and Web Service

    I am current working on a task in which I am needing to call a method in a web service from a CLR stored procedure. A bit of background: Basically, I have a task that requires ALOT of crunching. If done strictly in SQL, it takes somewhere around 30-45 mins to process. If I pull the same process into code, I can get it complete in seconds due to being able to optimize the processing so much more efficiently. The only problem is that I have to have this process set as an automated task in SQL Server. In that vein, I have exposed the process as a web service (I use it for other things as well) and want the SQL CLR sproc to consume the service and execute the code. This allows me to have my automated task. The problem: I have read quite a few different topics regarding how to consume a web service in a CLR Sproc and have done so effectivly. Here is an example of what I have followed. http://blog.hoegaerden.be/2008/11/11/calling-a-web-service-from-sql-server-2005/ I can get this example working without any issues. However, whenever I pair this process w/ a Web Service method that involves a database call, I get the following exceptions (depending upon whether or not I wrap in a try / catch): Msg 10312, Level 16, State 49, Procedure usp_CLRRunDirectSimulationAndWriteResults, Line 0 .NET Framework execution was aborted. The UDP/UDF/UDT did not revert thread token. or Msg 6522, Level 16, State 1, Procedure MyStoredProc , Line 0 A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user defined routine or aggregate 'MyStoredProc': System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.EnvironmentPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. System.Security.SecurityException: at System.Security.CodeAccessSecurityEngine.Check(Object demand, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean isPermSet) at System.Security.CodeAccessPermission.Demand() at System.Net.CredentialCache.get_DefaultCredentials() at System.Web.Services.Protocols.WebClientProtocol.set_UseDefaultCredentials(Boolean value) at MyStoredProc.localhost.MPWebService.set_UseDefaultCredentials(Boolean Value) at MyStoredProclocalhost.MPWebService..ctor() at MyStoredProc.StoredProcedures.MyStoredProc(String FromPostCode, String ToPostCode) I am sure this is a permission issue, but I can't, for the life of me get it working. I have attempted using impersonation in the CLR sproc and a few other things. Any suggestions? What am I missing?

I have been a developer for 2 years now and currently aiming for a certain company that requires a web developer with a minimum experience of 3 years. I imagine the interview will have the basic object oriented topics like (Abstraction, Polymorphism, Inheritance, Design patterns, UML, Databases and ORMs, SOLID principles, DRY principle, ...etc) I have these topics covered, but what I'm looking forward to is bringing up topics such as Efferent Coupling, Afferent Coupling, Instability, The law of Demeter, ...etc. Till few days ago I never knew such concepts existed (maybe because I'm a communication engineer basically not a CS graduate.) I am very interested in WPF and I was wondering whether it would be too early for me to start learning how to use it? For reference, I am about 400 pages into 'Head First C#' and I've written a program that can quickly tag image files for moving into a predefined folder or to delete (Allows the user to pull images off of a camera memory card and sort VERY quickly).   • cant get ubuntu to work with windows 8

    ive been trying to dual boot Ubuntu with windows 8 but so far I haven't been able too. the laptop im using is a HP Pavilion g6-2240sa pre-installed with windows 8. ive made the bootbale USB with Ubuntu 12.10, it installs but when I restart the computer boot straight into windows, no grub boot options. I can get into Ubuntu once by doing an advanced restart and booting from the Ubuntu partition. I can use Ubuntu fine but once I restart or shutdown, I do the advanced restart again and the Ubuntu partition is now gone and I have to reinstall. i used this tutorial to install Ubuntu, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNCSbTyUzoM After i have to reinstall and still no grub boot menu, i used the boot repair to re-install it. once i rebooted the computer it went straight to windows again and the Ubuntu partition was gone. can i dual boot windows 8 and unbuntu 12.10 with the grub so i can pick what OS to boot into when the computer is starting, and without the partition going AWOL????   • A strong component keeps everything together

    Most of the times you implement a WebCenter Content based system, you require some sort of customization. Sometimes these customizations need a Java class or two, or libraries (for example, the JavaMail API), or Database Objects (like new tables, views, indexes, etc). I have seen that libraries and Database Objects are usually put in place using manual steps. This means that the library jar files are copied to one of the common classes directory (set in the Content CLASSPATH variable) and/or the database scripts are executed manually. I have also seen people place the custom Java classes in the common classes directory. While this may seem like an easy solution, think about a scenario where you need to disable or uninstall the component or if you have to upgrade or migrate the system. You have to keep these manual steps documented and execute them every time you encounter the above scenarios. It is very common that some of these manual steps are missed when you have multiple teams and people working on the system. Here are a few points to ponder upon: Place all your custom Java classes within your component. Create a new directory, say ${COMPONENT_DIR}/classes, and place your code there. You can choose to bundle all your classes into a jar or you can place the entire class directory structure. Add a path entry to the Build Settings so that it is bundled with the component when you build it. You also need to update the Custom Class Path and the Custom Class Path Load Order under the Advanced Build Settings. This will ensure that the system CLASSPATH is updated to add this new directory. Create a new component for any new library that you want to add. Add the appropriate path entries to the Build Settings so that it is bundled with the component when you build it. You also need to update the Custom Class Path, Custom Class Path Load Order and/or the Custom Library Path under the Advanced Build Settings. Enter a comma separated list of features that this component will provide. When you create other components that will use the features exposed by this component, make sure that you specify a dependency to this library component by specifying the comma separated list of features in the Advanced Build Settings. The component wizard allows you to create custom install/uninstall Java code. The wizard will create a install filter class when you check the “Has Install” checkbox on the “Install/Uninstall Settings” tab. Consider using this filter class to create database objects when you install the component and drop the objects when you uninstall the component. If you do a lot of custom component development, consider creating a install/uninstall Java class, which can execute queries defined within the component. To sum up, whenever you write a new custom component, make sure that you bundle everything within the component.

The numbers above represent forum and thread ID's I am trying to set an Advanced filter, which will rewrite/report the page views in Google Analytics in following form: http://www.mysite.com/forum-67.html http://www.mysite.com/thread-29036.html Can someone please assist me in creating an Advanced Google Analytics filter which will enable me to see URL's so they can be live and send to correct page. Is there another method to achieve what I'm looking for ? Obviously there will be a need for some RegExp matches, but I cannot get around it.

I can make some basic algorithms and mostly use jQuery for interactive elements on webpages, and as I need to do more advanced things I get the feeling that my knowledge is lacking. In most cases I find a code, it takes me quite some time to understand it, but I don't understand why it is written as it is. I have no background in computer science, so I'm not sure weather I should go to the basics, or get some advanced javascript book/course. How can I make that jump from using JS for scripting to become a real programmer?
