• Silverlight horizontal stretch and get position issue

  I have a Grid (container) wich in turn has several grids(subContainers) arranged by rows. Each one of those "subContainers" has diferent columns and controls. And each of those "subContainers" has the horizontal alignment set to stretch, and it has to stay that way, since the layout this viewer depends on it. I use the "container" to set each control on it's adequate position. So far so good. Now comes my headache... I want to remove the control from the grid and put it in a canvas, at the same exact position, only, the position it returns is as if the control is set to the beggining of the grid and not it's true position. For testing purposes, I've set the "subContainters" horizontal alignment to center and (despite the layout is totally wrong) every control is in it's right position when sent to a canvas, wich it doesn't happen when HA = stretch. Here's the code I'm using to get position: GeneralTransform gt = nc.TransformToVisual(gridZoom); Point offset = gt.Transform(new Point()); So you can understand, for example, my first control should be somewhere like (80, 1090), but the point that I get is (3,3). • Performing centralized authorization for multiple applications

  Here's a question that I have been wrestling with for a while. We have a situation wherein we have a number of applications that we have created. These have grown organically over a period of time. All of these applications have permissions code built into them that controls access to various parts of the application depending on whether the currently logged in user has the necessary permissions or not. Alongside these applications is a utility application which allows an administrator to map users to permissions for all applications - the way it works is that every application has code which reads this external database of the said utility application to check if the currently logged in user has the necessary permission or not. Now, the question is this. Should the user-permissions mapping information reside in and be owned by the applications themselves, or is it okay to have this information reside within an external entity/DB (as in this case the utility application's database). Part of me thinks that application permissions are very specific to the application context itself, so shouldn't be separated from the application itself. But I am not sure. Any comments?

• Flex 3 (Action Script): How to access a function from a loaded swf-file ?

  Hi, i load in ActionScript a swf file. So far no Problem, but I didn't found a way to access one of it's functions, the best thing would be if I could access the main function in the mxml part of the swf. • HTML5 Video Element on iPad doesn't fire onclick?

  I am using the video element in my HTML as following:<div id="container" style="background:black; overflow:hidden;width:320px;height:240px" <video style="background:black;display:block" id="vdo" height="240px" width="320px" src="http://mydomain/vid.mp4"</video</div And in javascript I am doing this:var video=document.getElementById('vdo'); var container=document.getElementById('container'); video.addEventListener('click', function(e) { e.preventDefault(); console.log("clicked"); }, false); container.addEventListener('click', function(e) { e.preventDefault(); console.log("clicked"); }, false); On desktop safari/chrome everything is working fine. I can see two "clicked" in the console. But on ipad there is nothing. First I tried with iOS versin 3.2, then I updated it to the latest one 4.2.1 without any success.I found a similar question HTML5 Video Element on iPad doesn't fire onclick or touchstart events? where it suggests not to use controls in video tag and I am not using it.

• Refresh page in browser without resubmitting form

  I'm an ASP.NET developer, and I usually find myself leaving the webpage that I'm working on open in my browser (Chrome is my browser of choice, but this question is relevant for any browser). My workflow typically goes like this: I write code, I rebuild my project in Visual Studio, and then I flip back to my browser with Alt-Tab and hit F5 to refresh the page. This is fine and dandy if a form hasn't been submitted since the page was opened. But if I've been clicking around on ASP.NET form controls, the page has posted form data a number of times, so hitting F5 causes the browser to (sensibly) pop up a confirmation message, e.g., "Confirm Form Resubmission: The page that you're looking for used information that you entered...". Sometimes I do want to resubmit the form, but more often than not, I just want to start over with the page (rather than resubmit form data). The way I usually get around this is to simply add some query string data to the URL so that the browser sees it as a fresh page request, e.g.: page.aspx becomes page.aspx? (or vice-versa). My question is: Is there a better way to quickly request a fresh version of a webpage (and not submit form data) in any of the major browsers? It seems like a no-brainer to me for web development, but maybe I'm missing something. What I'd love to see is something like the last item in this list: F5: refresh page Ctrl-F5: refresh page (and force cache refresh) Alt-F5: request fresh copy of the page without resubmitting the form

  Hello I am trying to implement a solution for updating form controls without using a delegate. But i get 'l' is not declared error. As you can see im very new to VB or any OOP. I can get the second solution on that page to work (using delegates) but i have quite a few things to do in this thread and it seems like i would need to write a new delegate sub for each thing, which seems wasteful. What i need to do is select the 1st item from a combobox, update a textbox.text with the selected item, and pass the selected item to a function. Then wait for x seconds and start again, selecting the second item. I can get it to work in a single threaded application, but i need the interface to remain responsive. Any help greatly appreciated. EDIT: OK so changing the syntax worked for the example. However if i change it from Label1.CustomInvoke(Sub(l) l.text = "hello world!") (which worked just fine) to: Dim indexnumber As Integer = 0 ComboBox1.CustomInvoke(Sub(l) l.SelectedIndex = indexnumber) I get a cross threading error as though i didnt even use this method: Cross-thread operation not valid: Control 'ComboBox1' accessed from a thread other than the thread it was created on. So now im back to where i started? Any further help very much appreciated.

  Hi, I am a asp.net developer and don't know much about patterns and architecture. I will very thankful if you can please guide me here. In my web applications I use 4 layers. Web site project (having web forms + code behind cs files, user controls + code behind cs files, master pages + code behind cs files) CustomTypesLayer a class library (having custom types, enumerations, DTOs, constructers, get, set and validations) BusinessLogicLayer a class library (having all business logic, rules and all calls to DAL functions) DataAccessLayer a class library( having just classes communicating to database.) -My user interface just calls BusinessLogicLayer. BusinessLogicLayer do proecessign in it self and for data it calls DataAccessLayer funtions. -Web forms do not calls directly DAL. -CustomTypesLayer is shared by all layers. Please guide me is this approach a pattern ? I though it may be MVC or MVP but pages have there code behind files as well which are confusing me. If it is no patren is it near to some patren ? pleaes guide thanks

  I guess I have just hit a mental block with this one; maybe some fresh eyes will help. Basically I have a few instance of the class "menu-item" which when clicked call the click function via jQuery and bring up a video. Instead of giving each on an id as well as a class I am trying to find which instance of the class was clicked (1, 2, 3, etc). • ASP ListView - Eval() as formatted number, Bind() as unformatted?

  I have an ASP ListView, and have a very simple requirement to display numbers as formatted w/ a comma (12,123), while they need to bind to the database without formatting (12123). I am using a standard setup - ListView with a datasource attached, using Bind(). I converted from some older code, so I'm not using ASP.NET controls, just form inputs...but I don't think it matters for this: <asp:SqlDataSource ID="MySqlDataSource" runat="server" ConnectionString='<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString1 %>' SelectCommand="SELECT NUMSTR FROM MY_TABLE WHERE ID = @ID" UpdateCommand= "UPDATE MY_TABLE SET NUMSTR = @NUMSTR WHERE ID = @ID"> </asp:SqlDataSource> <asp:ListView ID="MyListView" runat="server" DataSourceID="MySqlDataSource"> <LayoutTemplate> <div id="itemplaceholder" runat="server"></div> </LayoutTemplate> <ItemTemplate> <input type="text" name="NUMSTR" ID="NUMSTR" runat="server" value='<%#Bind("NUMSTR")%>' /> <asp:Button ID="UpdateButton" runat="server" Text="Update" Commandname="Update" /> </ItemTemplate> </asp:ListView> In the example above, NUMSTR is a number, but stored as a string in a SqlServer 2008 database. I'm also using the ItemTemplate as read and edit templates, to save on duplicate HTML. In the example, I only get the unformatted number. If I convert the field to an integer (via the SELECT) and use a format string like Bind("NUMSTR", "{0:###,###}"), it writes the formatted number to the database, and then fails when it tries to read it again (can't convert with the comma in there). Is there any elegant/simple solution to this? It's so easy to get the two-way binding going, and I would think there has to be a way to easily format things as well... Oh, and I'm trying to avoid the standard ItemTemplate and EditItemTemplate approach, just for sheer amount of markup required for that. Thanks!

• Data confusion - Selecting data in one DataGridView based on selection in another

  This probably isn't the best way to do what I want, but I can't think of anything else to try... NB: I'm using Visual Basic.NET My form has 2 DataGridView controls. One of these is bound to a DataSet, the other isn't visible - at least not until the user selects a uniqueidentifier cell in the 1st grid. When the user makes this selection, the 2nd grid will become visible and display the row from another with the same id as the one selected in the 1st grid. So, basically, I want to dynamically display data in one grid based on user selection in another grid. My code looks like this so far...   I've created a htmlhelper extension to reduce the amount of repetitive markup when creating forms: public static MvcHtmlString RenderField<TModel, TValue>(this HtmlHelper<TModel> htmlHelper, Expression<Func<TModel, TValue>> expression) { return htmlHelper.DisplayFor(expression, "formfield"); } The idea being that inside my views I can just write @Html.RenderField(x=>x.MyFieldName) and it will print the label and the field's content with the appropriate div tags in place already. Inside the displaytemplates folder I have created formfield.cshtml containing the following: <div class="display-group"> <div class="display-label"> @Html.LabelFor(x => x) </div> <div class="display-field"> @Html.DisplayFor(x => x) </div> </div> Unfortunately it doesn't appear that it is possible to nest DisplayFor inside a display template (it doesn't render anything). I don't want to just using @Model because then I won't get checkboxes for boolean values, calendar controls for dates etc. Is there a good way around this?

• Loading more than 10 images on iPhone??

  I'm trying to add more than 10 pictures on ScrollView. But if the variable 'i' is bigger than 10, 'UIImage *image' is empty. The imageName seems to correct. But I don't know why it does not load image. Does anybody sees the problem?? And one more thing. If I do like that, does iOS controls memory automatically? I mean it's kind of wasting memory if all (more than 10) images are loaded on memory even they are not displayed. I've heard that iOS loads images only displayed on screen and free images those are not displayed. Is that right? Thanks for reading.

  Ok so I am very new to html and the web. Right now I am trying to generate list items on the fly and then have them post back to the web server so I know what the person is trying to obtain. Btw, the code running behind is C#. • How do I force all Tree itemrenderers to refresh?

  I have item renderers in an mx.controls.Tree that I need to refresh on demand. I have code in the updateDisplayList that fires for only some of the visible nodes no matter what I do. I've tried triggering a change that they should all be listening for; I have tried clearing and resetting the dataProvider and the itemRenderer properties. private function forceCategoryTreeRefresh(event : Event = null) : void { trace("forceCategoryTreeRefresh"); var prevDataProvider : Object = CategoryTree.dataProvider; CategoryTree.dataProvider = null; CategoryTree.validateNow(); CategoryTree.dataProvider = prevDataProvider; var prevItemRenderer : IFactory = CategoryTree.itemRenderer; CategoryTree.itemRenderer = null; CategoryTree.itemRenderer = prevItemRenderer as IFactory; _categoriesChangeDispatcher.dispatchEvent(new Event(Event.CHANGE)); } The nodes refresh properly when I scroll them into view (e.g. the .data gets set), but I cannot force the ones that already exist to refresh or reset themselves. Any ideas?

  Imagine, we have a wpf class library with a window1.xaml and a resource dictionary res.xaml defined in it. I know how to use styles that defined in the res.xaml for the controls that defined into the window: <Window x:Class="...Window1"> <Window.Resources> <ResourceDictionary> <ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> <ResourceDictionary Source="res.xaml"/> </ResourceDictionary.MergedDictionaries> </ResourceDictionary> <\Window.Resources> </Window> So we can use the dictionary's styles for all elements into the window (except the window element... I don't know how to set the style from the res.xaml for the window :( ). I saw the article where describes how to create and use attached property to add resource dictionaries to a FrameworkElement.Resources.MergedDictionaries list. It's good! We can do the same as we done in the example above but we can use the window style now. It looks like this: <Window x:Class="...Window1" xmlns: resources="..." resources:SharedResources.MergedDictionaries="res.xaml"> </Window> That's good but VS2008 cannot recognize resources from res.xaml in design time. So we have a sad situation: all styles from res.xaml are available in run-time but in the design-time VS cannot display the window (it can't find the mentioned styles). Does anybody know how to fix this situation?

• On checkbox checked show radio button

  Hello, I would like to ask for a little help here, since I haven't got any big knowledge in Javascript, nor in jQuery. I need to show 5 radio buttons when a checkbox is checked, the checkboxes represent languages that the user speaks, so for each of the selected, there should appear 5 separate radio buttons for how good they speak it(1 to 5). I tried to do it with jQuery, but I did not manage to get very far away...   I have created a web app version of my previous crawler app and the initial form has controls to allow the client to make selections and start a search 'job'. These searches 'jobs' will be run my different threads created individually and added to a list to keep track of. Now the idea is to have another web form that will display this list of 'jobs' and their current status and will allow the jobs to be cancelled or removed only from the server side. This second form contains a grid to display these jobs. Now I have no idea if I should create the threads in the initial form code or send all user input to my main class which runs the search and if so how do I pass the the thread list to the second form to have it displayed on the grid. Any ideas really appreciated.
