• How do you change the default collation of MySql for rake db:create:all in rails?

  In my rails app I am running rake db:create:all in order to create the databases and I am prompted that the collations do not match. Is there a way to change the default MySQL collation? If not what is the best way around this? Thanks

  I vaguely remember reading a blog entry (written by a well-known blogger I think) about how to model price changes over time, and that you could model most changes by saving two dates only (two columns in a db). The blog talked about prices on a website changing over time and how you could figure out the right price to charge knowing only when the purchase had been made. Very vague, I know, but my google-fu is failing me, everyone at IRC are busy talking about other stuff and I don't know what to do! :)

  I have existing code for tracking multi-touch positions and then rotating and scaling the item - in this case an image - appropriately. The code works really well and in itself is perfect, however for this particular task, I need the rotation ONLY. I have looked at other routines on the internet to handle multi-touch rotation but all the ones I tried had issues in some way or other, whereas the above code is spot on for scale and rotate actions. Any help appreciated!

• How do I link ASP.NET membership/role users to tables in db?

  I am going to use forms authentication but I want to be able to link the asp.net users to some tables in the db for example If I have a class and students (as roles) I'll have a class students table. I'm planning to put in a Users table containing a simple int userid and ASP.NET username in there and put userid wherever I want to link the users. Does that sound good? any other options of modeling this? it does sound a bit convoluted?

  Which files are the actual files holding the data in the tables in a mysql db? I went to /var/lib/mysql/ and I can see there a bunch of relatively small directories corresponding to my tables, and a lot of files named servername-bin.0000001 etc. Is the data stored in those files?

  I have a very strange problem. It only shows from time to time, on several devices. Can't seem to reproduce it when I want, but had it so many times, that I think I know where I get it. At first, the memory statistics is: PID PPID USER STAT VSZ %MEM %CPU COMMAND 17731 15488 root S 1104 5% 7% ./sqlite3multiwrite When the printf() in while(1){} of main() prints the 150, the memory statistics is: PID PPID USER STAT VSZ %MEM %CPU COMMAND 17731 15488 root S 1552 5% 7% ./sqlite3multiwrite It sounds that after 150 for-cycles, the memory used by sqlite3multiwrite increase from 1104KB to 1552KB. What does it mean? memory leak or other thing?
