  • Testing system where App-level and Request-level IoC containers exist

    My team is in the process of developing a system where we're using Unity as our IoC container; and to provide NHibernate ISessions (Units of work) over each HTTP Request, we're using Unity's ChildContainer feature to create a child container for each request, and sticking the ISession in there. We arrived at this approach after trying others (including defining per-request lifetimes in the container, but there are issues there) and are now trying to decide on a unit testing strategy. Right now, the application-level container itself is living in the HttpApplication, and the Request container lives in the HttpContext.Current. Obviously, neither exist during testing. The pain increases when we decided to use Service Location from our Domain layer, to "lazily" resolve dependencies from the container. So now we have more components wanting to talk to the container. We are also using MSTest, which presents some concurrency dilemmas during testing as well. So we're wondering, what do the bright folks out there in the SO community do to tackle this predicament? How does one setup an application that, during "real" runtime, relies on HTTP objects to hold the containers, but during test has the flexibility to build-up and tear-down the containers consistently, and have the ServiceLocation bits get to those precise containers.   • Jquery getJSON cross domain problems

    I cant seem to get my JSON file to work when pulling it in from another domain using JQuerys getJSON. I have placed the callback part at the end of the url but still have no joy. Firebug tells me its a cross domain issue, which seems to make sense as if I place the json file locally the below code (excluding the ?jsoncallback=? works fine) Heres the Jquery part   • How can I validate/secure/authenticate a JavaScript-based POST request?

    A product I'm helping to develop will basically work like this: A Web publisher creates a new page on their site that includes a <script> from our server. When a visitor reaches that new page, that <script> gathers the text content of the page and sends it to our server via a POST request (cross-domain, using a <form> inside of an <iframe>). Our server processes the text content and returns a response (via JSONP) that includes an HTML fragment listing links to related content around the Web. This response is cached and served to subsequent visitors until we receive another POST request with text content from the same URL, at which point we regenerate a "fresh" response. These POSTs only happen when our cached TTL expires, at which point the server signifies that and prompts the <script> on the page to gather and POST the text content again. The problem is that this system seems inherently insecure. In theory, anyone could spoof the HTTP POST request (including the referer header, so we couldn't just check for that) that sends a page's content to our server. This could include any text content, which we would then use to generate the related content links for that page. The primary difficulty in making this secure is that our JavaScript is publicly visible. We can't use any kind of private key or other cryptic identifier or pattern because that won't be secret. Ideally, we need a method that somehow verifies that a POST request corresponding to a particular Web page is authentic. We can't just scrape the Web page and compare the content with what's been POSTed, since the purpose of having JavaScript submit the content is that it may be behind a login system. Any ideas? I hope I've explained the problem well enough. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • Value objects in DDD - Why immutable?

    I don't get why value objects in DDD should be immutable, nor do I see how this is easily done. (I'm focusing on C# and Entity Framework, if that matters.) For example, let's consider the classic Address value object. If you needed to change "123 Main St" to "123 Main Street", why should I need to construct a whole new object instead of saying myCustomer.Address.AddressLine1 = "123 Main Street"? (Even if Entity Framework supported structs, this would still be a problem, wouldn't it?) I understand (I think) the idea that value objects don't have an identity and are part of a domain object, but can someone explain why immutability is a Good Thing? EDIT: My final question here really should be "Can someone explain why immutability is a Good Thing as applied to Value Objects?" Sorry for the confusion! EDIT: To clairfy, I am not asking about CLR value types (vs reference types). I'm asking about the higher level DDD concept of Value Objects. For example, here is a hack-ish way to implement immutable value types for Entity Framework: http://rogeralsing.com/2009/05/21/entity-framework-4-immutable-value-objects. Basically, he just makes all setters private. Why go through the trouble of doing this?

    I want to do a riddle AI chatbot for my AI class. So i figgured the input to the chatbot would be : Something like : "It is blue, and it is up, but it is not the ceiling" Translation : <Object X> <blue> <up> <!ceiling> </Object X> (Answer : sky?) So Input is a set of characteristics (existing \ not existing in the object), output is a matched, most likely object. The domain will be limited to a number of objects, i could input all attributes myself, but i was thinking : How could I programatically build a database of characteristics for a word? Is there such a database available? How could i tag a word, how could i programatically find all it's attributes? I was thinking on crawling wikipedia, or some forum, but i can't see it build any reliable word tag database. Any ideas on how i could achieve such a thing? Any ideas on some literature on the subject? Thank you

  • WCF webHttpBinding with jQuery AJAX - removing/working around same origin policy

    So I'm trying to create a C# WCF REST service that is called by jQuery. I've discovered that jQuery requires that AJAX calls are made under the same origin policy. I have a few questions for how I might proceed. I am already aware of; 1. The hacky solution of JSONP with a server callback 2. The way too much server overhead of having a cross-domain proxy. 3. Using Flash in the browser to make the call and setting up crossdomain.xml at my WCF server root. I'd rather not use these because; 1. I don't want to use JSON, or at least I don't want to be restricted to using it 2. I would like to separate the server that serves static pages from the one that serves application state. 3. Flash in this day in age is out of the question. What I'm thinking: is there anything like Flash's crossdomain.xml file that works for jQuery? Is this "same-origin" policy a part of jQuery or is it a restriction in specific browsers? If it's just a part of jQuery, maybe I'll try digging in the code to work around it.

  • Define "Validation in the Model"

If not, I apologise in advance. If you come from the Validation in the Model camp - does Model mean OOP representation of data (i.e. Active Record/Data Mapper) as "Entity" (to borrow the DDD terminology) - in which case you would, I assume, want all Model classes to inherit common validation constraints. Or can these rules simply be part of a Service in the Model - i.e. a Validation service? For example, could you consider Zend_Form and it's validation classes part of the Model? The concept of a Domain Model does not appear to be limited to Entities, and so validation may not necessarily need to be confined to this Entities. It seems that you would require a lot of potentially superfluous handing of values and responses back and forth between forms and "Entities" - and in some instances you may not persist the data recieved from user input, or recieve it from user input at all.

  • Parallelizing L2S Entity Retrieval

    Assuming a typical domain entity approach with SQL Server and a dbml/L2S DAL with a logic layer on top of that: In situations where lazy loading is not an option, I have settled on a convention where getting a list of entities does not also get each item's child entities (no loading), but getting a single entity does (eager loading). Since getting a single entity also gets children, it causes a cascading effect in which each child then gets its children too. This sounds bad, but as long as the model is not too deep, I usually don't see performance problems that outweigh the benefits of the ease of use. So if I want to get a list in which each of the items is fully hydrated with children, I combine the GetList and GetItem methods. So I'll get a list and then loop through it getting each item with the full cascade. Even this is generally acceptable in many of the projects I've worked on - but I have recently encountered situations with larger models and/or more data in which it needs to be more efficient. I've found that partitioning the loop and executing it on multiple threads yields excellent results. In my first experiment with a list of 50 items from one particular project, I did 5 threads of 10 items each and got a 3X improvement in time. Of course, the mileage will vary depending on the project but all else being equal this is clearly a big opportunity. However, before I go further, I was wondering what others have done that have already been through this. What are some good approaches to parallelizing this type of thing?

  • jquery sortable item cached? #sortable items: '.class1' filter is not working when class is changed

  • Declare private static members in F#?

    I decided to port the class in C# below to F# as an exercise. It was difficult. I only notice three problems 1) Greet is visible 2) I can not get v to be a static class variable 3) I do not know how to set the greet member in the constructor. How do i fix these? The code should be similar enough that i do not need to change any C# source.   • VB Classes Best Practice - give all properties values?

    Sorry if this is a bit random, but is it good practice to give all fields of a class a value when the class is instanciated? I'm just wondering if its better practice to have a constuctor that takes no parameters and gives all the fields default values, or whether fields that have values should be assigned and others left alone until required?   • Compiling a bunch of stuff in the folder (java, on a mac)

    two questions: how do i compile a .java file that isn't on my username (like something in documents or some other sub folder) if i have multiple .java files and i compile one that contains method that are contained in the others does the compiler compile those other files. heres an example of the second question. example1.java: class example1 { main () { example2.method () } } example2.java: class example2 { method () } When i compile example1.java will example2.java also be compiled?

  • Sproutcore SC.arrayProxy, where is in the docs?

    I'm reading the getting started guide of sproutcore, about the Todo app. Around the beginning they tell to instantiate a controller from the SC.arrayProxy class. But this class is not present in the docs!!! and even in google is nowhere to be found! where does it come out from?? EDIT: I discovered that SC.arrayProxy is only in sproutcore 2! I wonder what are the differences from SC.arrayController

  • UIHint can not resolve template in abstract models

DocumentFileId { get; set; } } The problem is Cannot resolve template 'File', while there is File.cshtml in View editor templates. The point is, if I don't define MyClass as an abstract class, error will be solved. My question is, why editor template can not resolve in abstract classes, and how can I handle it?
