  • Storing information inside YAML

    - by yuval
I looked through the YAML for ruby documentation and couldn't find an answer. I have a list of several employees. Each has a name, phone, and email as such: Employees: Name | Phone | Email john 111 [email protected] joe 123 [email protected] joan 321 [email protected] How would I write the above information in YAML to end up with the following ruby output? employees = [ {:name => 'john', :phone => '111', :email => '[email protected]'}, {:name => 'joe', :phone => '123', :email => '[email protected]'}, {:name => 'joan', :phone => '321', :email => '[email protected]'} ] This is how I parse the YAML file: APP_CONFIG = YAML.load_file("#{RAILS_ROOT}/config/config.yml") Thank you!

  • Cucumber Textmate Highlighting

    - by yuval
I am trying to get highlighting for Cucumber to work with Textmate. I already installed the Cucumber Textmate Bundle (which is supposed to include the highlighting). I am working with Ryan Bates' Railscasts theme (description for it is in the about page) for textmate, but for some reason In order to, As a, I want, etc do not get highlighted in foobar.feature located in my features folder. Seems like it's working for for Ryan in his "Beginning with Cucumber" screencast. Any help? Thanks!

  • How do I get autotest (ZenTest) to see my namespaced stuff?

    - by Blaine LaFreniere
Autotest is supposed to map my tests to a class, I believe. When I have class Foo and class FooTest, autotest should see FooTest and say, "Hey, this test corresponds to the unit Foo, so I'll look for changes there and re-run tests when changes occur." And that works, however... When I have Foo::Bar and Foo::BarTest, autotest doesn't seem to make the connection, and whenever I edit Foo::Bar, autotest does not re-run Foo::BarTest Am I doing something wrong? EDIT: File structure might be helpful. Here it is: Module and class files: lib/foo.rb lib/foo/bar.rb lib/foo/baz.rb Test files: test/unit/foo/bar.rb test/unit/baz.rb I would think that autotest is able to make the connection between Foo::Bar and Foo::BarTest, but apparently it doesn't.

  • Using named_scopes on the join model of a has_many :through

    - by uberllama
Hi folks. I've been beating my head against the wall on something that on the surface should be very simple. Lets say I have the following simplified models: user.rb has_many :memberships has_many :groups, :through => :memberships membership.rb belongs_to :group belongs_to :user STATUS_CODES = {:admin => 1, :member => 2, :invited => 3} named_scope :active, :conditions => {:status => [[STATUS_CODES[:admin], STATUS_CODES[:member]]} group.rb has_many :memberships has_many :users, :through => :memberships Simple, right? So what I want to do is get a collection of all the groups a user is active in, using the existing named scope on the join model. Something along the lines of User.find(1).groups.active. Obviously this doesn't work. But as it stands, I need to do something like User.find(1).membrships.active.all(:include => :group) which returns a collection of memberships plus groups. I don't want that. I know I can add another has_many on the User model with conditions that duplicate the :active named_scope on the Membership model, but that's gross. has_many :active_groups, :through => :memberships, :source => :group, :conditions => ... So my question: is there a way of using intermediary named scopes when traversing directly between models? Many thanks.

  • Ruby daemons and frequency

    - by mplacona
Hi, I've written this ruby daemon, and was wondering if somebody could have a look at it, and tell me if the approach I've taken is correct. #!/usr/bin/env ruby require 'logger' # You might want to change this ENV["RAILS_ENV"] ||= "production" require File.dirname(__FILE__) + "/../../config/environment" $running = true Signal.trap("TERM") do $running = false end service = Post.new('http://feed.com/feeds') logger = Logger.new('reader.log') while($running) do # Log my calls logger.info "Run at #{Time.now}" service.update_from_feed_continuously # only run it every 5 minutes or so sleep 300 end I feel like this last loop is not quite the right thing to do, and can be memory intensive, but I'm not sure. Also, the 5 minutes seem to never happen exactly every 5 minutes, and I'll see variations of 4-6 minutes. thanks in advance

  • Paperclip and xhr.sendAsBinary

    - by Denis
    Hi, I use paperclip to add a file to my model. I want to use the new feature of firefox 3.6, xhr.sendAsBinary, to send a file with an ajax request. Here is how I build my request : var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest(); xhr.open("POST", "/photos?authenticity_token=" + token + "&photo[name]=" + img.name + "&photo[size]=" + img.size); xhr.overrideMimeType('text/plain; charset=x-user-defined-binary'); xhr.sendAsBinary(bin); name and size are saved in my model without problem but the file itself is not catched by paperclip. my model class Photo < ActiveRecord::Base has_attached_file :photo, :styles => { :medium => "300x300>", :thumb => "100x100>" } end the migration def self.up add_column :photos, :photo_file_name, :string add_column :photos, :photo_content_type, :string add_column :photos, :photo_file_size, :integer add_column :photos, :photo_updated_at, :datetime end and my controller # POST /photos # POST /photos.xml def create @photo = Photo.new(params[:photo]) respond_to do |format| if @photo.save format.html { redirect_to(@photo, :notice => 'Photo was successfully created.') } format.xml { render :xml => @photo, :status => :created, :location => @photo } else format.html { render :action => "new" } format.xml { render :xml => @photo.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end end end Any idea how to solve this issue? Thanks

  • Why do I get this error when I try to push my SQLite3 to Postgresql (via Taps) on Cedar Stack?

    - by rhodee
I've done quite a bit of research on Heroku Dev Center and I am now looking to the community for help. Here is my problem. I can not push my db to Heroku Cedar Stack. I am trying to migrate a sqlite database to postgresql via Taps gem. When I am ready to deploy I run: bundle install --without production heroku run db:push I get the following result: Running db:seed attached to terminal... up, run.17 sh: db:seed: not found heroku run rake db:migrate And when I run the migration: heroku run rake db:migrate I get the following: Running rake db:migrate attached to terminal... up, run.18 rake aborted! No Rakefile found (looking for: rakefile, Rakefile, rakefile.rb, Rakefile.rb) /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rake.rb:2367:in `raw_load_rakefile' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rake.rb:2007:in `block in load_rakefile' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rake.rb:2058:in `standard_exception_handling' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rake.rb:2006:in `load_rakefile' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rake.rb:1991:in `run' /usr/local/bin/rake:31:in `<main>' Everytime I push to Heroku (git push heroku master) it fails because my gem file is attempting to install sqlite3 gem-even though its inside of the development and test groups in my Gemfile. My database.yml production environment still points to sqlite adapter even after I have run the following command successfully: heroku config:add BUNDLE_WITHOUT="test development" --app app_name_on_heroku Out of ideas. Please help. If its useful I can post results of my gemfile, heroku ps and logs. Cheers UPDATE: After following @John's direction I now receive the following terminal message. • Fields_for dynamic label

    - by sebajb
I have dynamic form which has a set of values. I created a partial which contains text fields which I display. Next to each of them I would like to display a label containing the title of the text. For instance First Name, and Last Name would not be known previously. How do I go about doing that? It seems that I cannot access the attributes directly. But when I use the label field, the variable name in the label is displayed not the actual value.

  • Help combining these two queries

    - by Horace Loeb
I need a SQL query that returns results matched by EITHER of the following SQL queries: Query 1: SELECT "annotations".* FROM "annotations" INNER JOIN "votes" ON "votes".voteable_id = "annotations".id AND "votes".voteable_type = 'Annotation' WHERE (votes.vote = 't' AND votes.voter_id = 78) Query 2: SELECT "annotations".* FROM "annotations" INNER JOIN "songs" ON "songs".id = "annotations".song_id INNER JOIN "songs" songs_annotations ON "songs_annotations".id = "annotations".song_id INNER JOIN "users" ON "users".id = "songs_annotations".state_last_updated_by_id WHERE (annotations.referent IS NOT NULL AND annotations.updated_at < '2010-04-05 01:51:24' AND (body = '?' • Search french via Thinking Sphinx in ROR project

    - by Daniel
Hello everyone: How can I use sphinx to search french words which the entries in the db is actually english? The situation is: I have a ROR project with a table in the db called "categories", and the category names are in english, category has many "question" entries. In localization file config/locals/fr.yml, these categories were translated to french. Consider about expandability, we can't change the category names in the db to french. User can search by type part of the key word. Here is a example: Category Name: Health and Medical In french: Santé et médecine so how can I do this: type "Santé médecine abc" in the search field and sphinx will return the "questions" under "Health and Medical" category and have keyword "abc"?

  • How to create this MongoMapper custom data type?

    - by Kapslok
I'm trying to create a custom MongoMapper data type in RoR 2.3.5 called Translatable: class Translatable < String def initialize(translation, culture="en") end def languages end def has_translation(culture)? end def self.to_mongo(value) end def self.from_mongo(value) end end I want to be able to use it like this: class Page include MongoMapper::Document key :title, Translatable, :required => true key :content, String end Then implement like this: p = Page.new p.title = "Hello" p.title(:fr) = "Bonjour" p.title(:es) = "Hola" p.content = "Some content here" p.save p = Page.first p.languages => [:en, :fr, :es] p.has_translation(:fr) => true en = p.title => "Hello" en = p.title(:en) => "Hello" fr = p.title(:fr) => "Bonjour" es = p.title(:es) => "Hola" In mongoDB I imagine the information would be stored like: { "_id" : ObjectId("4b98cd7803bca46ca6000002"), "title" : { "en" : "Hello", "fr" : "Bonjour", "es" : "Hola" }, "content" : "Some content here" } So Page.title is a string that defaults to English (:en) when culture is not specified. I would really appreciate any help.

  • Rack rSpec Controller Tests with Rack Middleware issue

    - by Roman Gonzalez
Howdy, I'm having big trouble testing with rSpec's controller API. Right now I'm using a middleware authentication solution (Warden), and when I run the specs, the proxy added by the middleware is not there, and all the authentication tests are throwing NilPointerExceptions all over the place. It seems rSpec is not adding the middleware to the final app on purpose, and I would like to know if there is a way to monkey patch rSpec in order to make that go. I already tested the whole thing with cucumber, however this is a refactoring of an old authentication version and there is several Controller tests that depend on authentication logic in order to work. Thanks in advance.

  • Webrat says it can't find some text, but the text is actually there

    - by Jason
I have a webpage that has a form button on it called "delete", and a cuke scenario that has the line: And I should see "delete" When I run the scenario, I get this error: expected the following element's content to include "delete" ...and it dumps the webrat page to stdout and the "delete" is, in fact, not there. So far so good. However, when I tell webrat to show me the page before the error happens: Then show me the page And I should see "delete" ...Safari fires up and shows me the page, and in Safari there's the "delete" button, totally there. Why is webrat not finding the form button? I've also had this same problem with form fields, such as text inputs that have a value in them when the page loads, but webrat says there's nothing there. Looking at it in Safari shows, again, that the field does have the right text in it. Is this a bug, or is webrat just not suitable for checking form elements? Is there a different way to do this? Thanks!

I'm sending a byte array to a piece of hardware. The first 7 bytes contain data and the 8th byte is a checksum. The 8th byte is the Least Significant Byte of the sum of the first 7 bytes. Examples that include the correct checksum. The last byte of each of these is the checksum 200-30-7-5-1-2-0-245 42-0-0-1-176-0-148-39 42-0-0-3-177-0-201-118 How do I calculate the checksum? Thanks, Seth
