  • Implementing an Online Waiting Room

    My organization is building a new version of our ticketing site and is looking for the best way to build an online waiting room when the number of users in our purchase path exceeds a certain limit. The best version of this queue would let new users in after existing users have either completed their purchase or have exceeded a timeout limit after entering the path. I'm trying to get an idea of how this has been implemented by other organizations. Has anyone out there done something similar or have any experience with this? We have some ideas, but I'd like to get a sense of what solutions have been tried and what problems those solutions have run up against. Just to be complete, this site is being built in Ruby on Rails, though I'd love to hear about how people have solved this regardless of platform.

Can somebody PLEASE tell me how to make this movie loop and replay from the beginning non stop ( any code would help). Second, is MCRYPT_RIJNDAEL_256 compatible with AES-128? Finally, how would I let another party decrypt a file I've encrypted? They would need to know which encryption was used and I am not sure what to tell them.

  • How to capture live camera frames in RGB with DirectShow

    I'm implementing live video capture through DirectShow for live processing and display. (Augmented Reality app). I can access the pixels easily enough, but it seems I can't get the SampleGrabber to provide RGB data. The device (an iSight -- running VC++ Express in VMWare) only reports MEDIASUBTYPE_YUY2. After extensive Googling, I still can't figure out whether DirectShow is supposed to provide built-in color space conversion for this sort of thing. Some sites report that there is no YUV<-RGB conversion built in, others report that you just have to call SetMediaType on your ISampleGrabber with an RGB subtype. Any advice is greatly appreciated, I'm going nuts on this one. Code provided below.   • Font serialization in vb.net

    Hello all, as the title says , I need to serialize my font. I have tried the following approach unfortunately to no avail. This is what I have and what happens; I have a drawing application and certain variables and properties need to be serialized. (So , Xml.Serialization has been used.) Now this has already been done in a huge portion and I've created some other attributes which needed to be serialized and it works. There is one base class and classes such as drawablestar, drawableeclipse ,etc. all inherit from this class. As does my drawabletextboxclass. The base class is Serializable as can be seen in the sample below. It looks like this... If I load my saved file it shows me the correct location and correct size of drawn objects. If I open my xml file I can see all values are correctly saved ( including my FontFamily ). Also the color which can be adjusted is saved and then properly displayed when I load a previously saved drawing. Of course because the coordinates work, if I insert a textField ,the location where it is being displayed is correct. However here comes the problem , my fontSize and fontfamily don't work. As you can see I created them in the base class, However this does not work. Is my approach completely off? What can I do ? Before saving img14.imageshack.us/i/beforeos.jpg/ After loading the Font jumps back to Sans serif and size 12. I could really use some help here..   • Problems with with A* algorithm

    I'm trying to implement the A* algorithm in Java. I followed this tutorial,in particular, this pseudocode: http://theory.stanford.edu/~amitp/GameProgramming/ImplementationNotes.html The problem is my code doesn't work. It goes into an infinite loop. I really don't know why this happens... I suspect that the problem are in F = G + H function implemented in Graph constructors. I suspect I am not calculate the neighbor F correclty.   • Error installing pkgconfig via macports

    I installed Macports 1.8.2 from a DMG. That seemed to install fine. I ran sudo port selfupdate to make sure my ports tree was current. I then tried to install bindfs as I want to mount some directories in my OS X file system (like you can do with mount --bind in linux). pkgconfig and macfuse are two dependencies of bindfs.   • How to publish an ASP.NET MVC application to a free host

    Hi, I'm using a free web host (0000free) which supports ASP.NET MVC, but it uses Mono. This is the first time I deploy an MVC application, so I'm a little confused as to where I need to deploy it. I have Visual Studio 2010 and I used its Publish Feature (i.e. right click on the project name and click publish) and I tried several things: Publish method: FTP to the root folder. Publish method: FTP to the publich_html folder. Publish method: File System to the root folder. Publish method: File System to the publich_html folder. Publish method: File System to a local directory on my computer and then FTP to root and also tried the public_html folder. I went into the cPanel (control panel) to try and see if ASP.NET has to be added/enabled for my web site, but I didn't see anything there. I can't browse to Index.aspx nor can I redirect to it from index.html (as suggested from other posts on the host forum), right now I have a link from index.html to Index.aspx but it's not working either (see http://www.mydevarmy.com) I've also tried renaming Index.aspx to Default.aspx, but that doesn't work either.     I've run into an odd problem where Automtor.app on Snow Leopard crashes on launch. At some point in the past, I put a copy of iPhoto.app into my public directory to copy over to another machine. Now, Automator.app won't run unless my public directory has a copy of iPhoto.app in it. If I remove it, Automator.app crashes on launch.     I'm trying to configure under Linux (Kubuntu 9.10) a VPN I already use from Windows. I installed the network-manager-pptp package and added the VPN under Network Manager.   • Upgraded Ubuntu, all drives in one zpool marked unavailable

    I just upgraded Ubuntu 14.04, and I had two ZFS pools on the server. There was some minor issue with me fighting with the ZFS driver and the kernel version, but that's worked out now. One pool came online, and mounted fine. The other didn't. All drives in the unmountable zpool are marked UNAVAIL, with no notes for corrupted data The pools were both created with disks referenced from /dev/disk/by-id/. Symlinks from /dev/disk/by-id to the various /dev/sd devices seems to be correct zdb can read the labels from the drives. Pool has already been attempted to be exported/imported, and isn't able to import again. Is there some sort of black magic I can invoke via zpool/zfs to bring these disks back into a reasonable array? Can I run zpool create zraid ... without losing my data? Is my data gone anyhow?

  • Unable to remove limit on memory usage for PHP script.

    The Situation I am having an issue with a PHP script getting the following error message: Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 359923712) (tried to allocate 72 bytes) in /path/to/piwik/core/DataTable.php on line 969 The script I'm running is: /path/to/piwik/misc/cron/archive.sh I am assuming the numbers are Bytes, which means that total is approximately 360MB. For all intents and purposes, I have increased the memory limits on the server well above 360MB, yet this is the number (give or take a byte) it consistently errors out at. Please note: This question is not about fixing a memory leak in the script, nor about why the script itself is using so much memory. The script is part of the Piwik archiving process, so I cannot just fix any memory leaks, etc. For more info on this script and why I am increasing the memory limit, see "How to setup auto archiving" The question Given that the script is attempting to use over 360MB of memory, which I cannot change, why does it not seem possible for me to increase the amount of memory available to php on my server? What I've tried Increasing PHP's memory_limit Given the php.ini file: php -i | grep php.ini Configuration File (php.ini) Path => /usr/local/lib Loaded Configuration File => /usr/local/lib/php.ini I have edited that file, so the memory_limit directive reads; memory_limit = -1 Restart Apache, and check the new value has stuck; $ php -i | grep memory_limit memory_limit => -1 => -1 Run the script, and get the same error. I've also tried 1G, 768M, etc, all to the same result (ie; no change). Update 22nd June: Based on Vangel's help, I have attempted to set post_max_size to 20M in combination with setting memory_limit. Again, this has no effect. Removing the memory limit on child processes of Apache I have found and edited the httpd.conf file to make sure there is no RLimitMEM directive. I then used WHM's Apache Configuration Memory Usage Restrictions to generate a restriction, which it claimed was at 1000M (and confirmed by checking httpd.conf). Both of these resulted in no change to the script erroring at 360MB. Increasing the per process memory limits of Linux The current limits set on the system: $ ulimit -m 524288 $ ulimit -v 524288 I have attempted to set both of these to unlimited: $ ulimit -m unlimited $ ulimit -v unlimited $ ulimit -m unlimited $ ulimit -v unlimited Once again, this has resulted in absolutely no improvement in my problem. I was attempting to simply redirect the page to the HTTPS version if it determined that HTTPS was off, but instead it's displaying an HTML page rather than actually redirecting; and even odder, it's displaying it as text/plain!   • Setting environment variables in OS X

    Despite the warning that questions that can be answered are preferred, this question is more a request for comments. I apologize for this, but I feel that it is valuable nonetheless. The problem to set up environment variables such that they are available for GUI applications has been around since the dawn of Mac OS X. The solution with ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist never satisfied me because it was not reliable, and bash style globbing wasn't available. Another solution is the use of Login Hooks with a suitable shell script, but these are deprecated. The Apple approved way for such functionality as provided by login hooks is the use of Launch Agents. Things that can be improved: The shell script has a #filename="$1" in it. This is not accidental, as the file name should be feeded to the script by the launch agent as an argument, but that doesn't work. It is possible to put the script in the launch agent itsself. I am not sure how secure this solution is, as it uses eval with user provided strings. It should be mentioned that Apple intended a somewhat similar approach by putting stuff in ~/launchd.conf, but it is currently unsupported as to this date and OS (see the manpage of launchd.conf). I guess that things like globbing would not work as they do in this proposal. Finally, I would mention the sources I used as information on Launch Agents, but StackExchange doesn't let me [1], [2], [3]. Again, I am sorry that this is not a real question, I still hope it is useful.

  • WiX 3 Tutorial: Generating file/directory fragments with Heat.exe

    In previous posts I’ve shown you our SuperForm test application solution structure and how the main wxs and wxi include file look like. In this post I’ll show you how to automate inclusion of files to install into your build process. For our SuperForm application we have a single exe to install. But in the real world we have 10s or 100s of different files from dll’s to resource files like pictures. It all depends on what kind of application you’re building. Writing a directory structure for so many files by hand is out of the question. What we need is an automated way to create this structure. Enter Heat.exe. Heat is a command line utility to harvest a file, directory, Visual Studio project, IIS website or performance counters. You might ask what harvesting means? Harvesting is converting a source (file, directory, …) into a component structure saved in a WiX fragment (a wxs) file. There are 2 options you can use: Create a static wxs fragment with Heat and include it in your project. The pro of this is that you can add or remove components by hand. The con is that you have to do the pro part by hand. Automation always beats manual labor. Run heat command line utility in a pre-build event of your WiX project. I prefer this way. By always recreating the whole fragment you don’t have to worry about missing any new files you add. The con of this is that you’ll include files that you otherwise might not want to. There is no perfect solution so pick one and deal with it. I prefer using the second way. A neat way of overcoming the con of the second option is to have a post-build event on your main application project (SuperForm.MainApp in our case) to copy the files needed to be installed in a special location and have the Heat.exe read them from there. I haven’t set this up for this tutorial and I’m simply including all files from the default SuperForm.MainApp \bin directory. Remember how we created a System Environment variable called SuperFormFilesDir? This is where we’ll use it for the first time. The command line text that you have to put into the pre-build event of your WiX project looks like this: "$(WIX)bin\heat.exe" dir "$(SuperFormFilesDir)" -cg SuperFormFiles -gg -scom -sreg -sfrag -srd -dr INSTALLLOCATION -var env.SuperFormFilesDir -out "$(ProjectDir)Fragments\FilesFragment.wxs" After you install WiX you’ll get the WIX environment variable. In the pre/post-build events environment variables are referenced like this: $(WIX). By using this you don’t have to think about the installation path of the WiX. Remember: for 32 bit applications Program files folder is named differently between 32 and 64 bit systems. $(ProjectDir) is obviously the path to your project and is a Visual Studio built in variable. You can view all Heat.exe options by running it without parameters but I’ll explain some that stick out the most. dir "$(SuperFormFilesDir)": tell Heat to harvest the whole directory at the set location. That is the location we’ve set in our System Environment variable. –cg SuperFormFiles: the name of the Component group that will be created. This name is included in out Feature tag as is seen in the previous post. -dr INSTALLLOCATION: the directory reference this fragment will fall under. You can see the top level directory structure in the previous post. -var env.SuperFormFilesDir: the name of the variable that will replace the SourceDir text that would otherwise appear in the fragment file. -out "$(ProjectDir)Fragments\FilesFragment.wxs": the full path and name under which the fragment file will be saved. If you have source control you have to include the FilesFragment.wxs into your project but remove its source control binding. There is nothing too complicated about this. In the end it turns out that this sort of automation is great! There are a few other ways that Heat.exe can compose the wxs file but this is the one I prefer. It just seems the clearest. Play with its options to see what can it do.
