  • No audio with headphones, but audio works with integrated speakers

    My speakers work correctly, but when I plug in my headphones, they don't work. I am running Ubuntu 10.04. My audio card is Realtek ALC259 My laptop model is a HP G62t a10em In another thread someone fixed a similar issue (headphones work, speakers not) folowing this: sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (or some other editor instead of Vi) Append the following at the end of the file: alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel options snd-hda-intel model=auto Reboot but it doesnt work for me. I have reinstalled the following packages and rebooter: -alsa-hda-realtek-ignore-sku-dkms -alsa-modules-2.6.32-25-generic -alsa-source -alsa-utils -linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic -linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic-pae -linux-sound-base -(i think i listed them all) After rebooting, the audio worked, both in speakers and headphones. I have no idea which is the package that made my audio work, but it certainly was one of them. [/SOLUTION]

  • Wireless is detected, but not connecting. Ethernet works. How to correct the wireless address?

    I am running Ubuntu 14.04 with cable internet, and my wireless is detected and connected, but I cannot connect to the internet. I know the problem is with my machine because other machines are connecting to the same router just fine. I can connect via ethernet just fine as well. Here are some notable tests: ping 192.168.0.105 works with 0% packet loss, but ping 192.168.0.1 has 100% packet loss. When I plug in my ethernet, ping 192.168.0.1 works with 0% packet loss. My wireless name is tg, and the router ip is 192.168.0.1 (where I can enter username and password). I suspect that I need to change my wireless address from 192.168.0.105 to 192.168.0.1.     There is a new version of jtreg available. The primary new feature is support for tests that have been written for use with TestNG, the popular open source testing framework. TestNG is supported by a variety of tools and plugins, which means that it is now possible to develop tests for OpenJDK using those tools, while still retaining the ability to have the tests be part of the OpenJDK test suite, and run with a single test harness, jtreg. jtreg can be downloaded from the OpenJDK jtreg page: http://openjdk.java.net/jtreg. TestNG support jtreg supports both single TestNG tests, which can be freely intermixed with other types of jtreg tests, and groups of TestNG tests. A single TestNG test class can be compiled and run by providing a test description using the new action tag: @run testng classname The test will be executed by using org.testng.TestNG. No main method is required. A group of TestNG tests organized in a standard package hierarchy can also be compiled and run by jtreg. Any such group must be identified by specifying the root directory of the package hierarchy. You can either do this in the top level TEST.ROOT file, or in a TEST.properties file in any subdirectory enclosing the group of tests. In either case, add a line to the file of the form: TestNG.dirs = dir ... Directories beginning with '/' are evaluated relative to the root directory of the test suite; otherwise they are evaluated relative to the directory containing the declaring file. In particular, note that you can simply use "TestNG.dirs = ." in a TEST.properties file in the root directory of the test group's package hierarchy. No additional test descriptions are necessary, but test descriptions containing information tags, such as @bug, @summary, etc are permitted. All the Java source files in the group will be compiled if necessary, before any of the tests in the group are run. The selected tests within the group will be run, one at a time, using org.testng.TestNG. Library classes The specification for the @library tag has been extended so that any paths beginning with '/' will be evaluated relative to the root directory of the test suite. In addition, some bugs have been fixed that prevented sharing the compiled versions of library classes between tests in different directories. Note: This has uncovered some issues in tests that use a combination of @build and @library tags, such that some tests may fail unexpectedly with ClassNotFoundException. The workaround for now is to ensure that library classes are listed before the test classes in any @build tags. To specify one or more library directories for a group of TestNG tests, add a line of the following form to the TEST.properties file in the root directory of the group's package hierarchy: lib.dirs = dir ... As before, directories beginning with '/' are evaluated relative to the root directory of the test suite; otherwise they are evaluated relative to the directory containing the declaring file. The libraries will be available to all classes in the group; you cannot specify different libraries for different tests within the group. Coming soon ...   • Using Windows Previous Versions to access ZFS Snapshots (July 14, 2009)

    The Previous Versions tab on the Windows desktop provides a straightforward, intuitive way for users to view or recover files from ZFS snapshots.  ZFS snapshots are read-only, point-in-time instances of a ZFS dataset, based on the same copy-on-write transactional model used throughout ZFS.  ZFS snapshots can be used to recover deleted files or previous versions of files and they are space efficient because unchanged data is shared between the file system and its snapshots.  Snapshots are available locally via the .zfs/snapshot directory and remotely via Previous Versions on the Windows desktop. Shadow Copies for Shared Folders was introduced with Windows Server 2003 but subsequently renamed to Previous Versions with the release of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.  Windows shadow copies, or snapshots, are based on the Volume Snapshot Service (VSS) and, as the [Shared Folders part of the] name implies, are accessible to clients via SMB shares, which is good news when using the Solaris CIFS Service.  And the nice thing is that no additional configuration is required - it "just works". On Windows clients, snapshots are accessible via the Previous Versions tab in Windows Explorer using the Shadow Copy client, which is available by default on Windows XP SP2 and later.  For Windows 2000 and pre-SP2 Windows XP, the client software is available for download from Microsoft: Shadow Copies for Shared Folders Client. Assuming that we already have a shared ZFS dataset, we can create ZFS snapshots and view them from a Windows client. zfs snapshot tank/home/administrator@snap101zfs snapshot tank/home/administrator@snap102 To view the snapshots on Windows, map the dataset on the client then right click on a folder or file and select Previous Versions.  Note that Windows will only display previous versions of objects that differ from the originals.  So you may have to modify files after creating a snapshot in order to see previous versions of those files. The screenshot above shows various snapshots in the Previous Versions window, created at different times.  On the left panel, the .zfs folder is visible, illustrating that this is a ZFS share.  The .zfs setting can be toggled as desired, it makes no difference when using previous versions.  To make the .zfs folder visible: zfs set snapdir=visible tank/home/administrator To hide the .zfs folder: zfs set snapdir=hidden tank/home/administrator The following screenshot shows the Previous Versions panel when a file has been selected.  In this case the user is prompted to view, copy or restore the file from one of the available snapshots. As can be seen from the screenshots above, the Previous Versions window doesn't display snapshot names: snapshots are listed by snapshot creation time, sorted in time order from most recent to oldest.  There's nothing we can do about this, it's the way that the interface works.  Perhaps one point of note, to avoid confusion, is that the ZFS snapshot creation time isnot the same as the root directory creation timestamp.   • Git on Windows 7 expecting Linux? /dev/null not found error

    I have installed git (not GitHub) on Windows 7 x64 Home Premium, and I cannot get it to work. Opening Git Bash outputs the following: Welcome to Git (version 1.9.4-preview20140815) Run 'git help git' to display the help index. Run 'get help <command>' to display help for specific commands. sh.exe": /dev/null: No such file or directory sh.exe": /dev/null: No such file or directory sh.exe": /dev/null: No such file or directory sh.exe": /dev/null: No such file or directory sh.exe": /dev/null: No such file or directory sh.exe": /dev/null: No such file or directory Andy@ANDY-DELL ~ $ If I open the Git GUI, I get a this box: Title: git-gui: fatal error Content: fatal: open /dev/null or dup failed: No such file or directory Git Gui requires Git 1.5.0 or later. I also tried GitHub for Windows, but I got an internet connection error when attempting to clone a repo, even though my connection is fine. Is this possibly related? I have learned so far that /dev/null is the Linux version of the Windows NUL, but why is it trying to do this on Windows? Thanks in advance.

    I have a hybrid asp.net web forms / mvc application that I recently converted to .net 4 with mvc2. I have set-up that application to run on IIS 7.5 (on Windows 7) and the web forms part of the site is running okay but the MVC part is not. Whenever I try and access a page that needs to go through the routing engine I get HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Module IIS Web Core Notification MapRequestHandler Handler StaticFile Error Code 0x80070002 I'm debugging this web site through VS2010 (so I've set-it-up to use IIS instead of Cassini) and when I put a break point in the Application_Start function it is never hit so the routes are never registered. When I put a break point in the Page_Load function in one of the aspx page code-behinds it gets hit. So it seems that the problem is that the route is not being registered. What am I missing?

  • Trying to run chrooted suPHP with UserDir, getting 500 server error

    I've managed to get suPHP working fine with UserDir (i.e. PHP files run from the /home/$username/public_html) directory, but I can't get it to work when I chroot it to the user's home directory. I've been following this guide: http://compilefailure.blogspot.co.nz/2011/09/suphp-chroot-gotchas.html And adapting it to my needs. I'm not creating vhosts, I just want PHP scripts to be jailed to the user's home directory. I've gotten to the part where you use makejail and set up a symlink. However even with the symlink set up correctly, PHP scripts won't run. This is what's shown in the Apache error log: SoftException in Application.cpp:537: Could not execute script "/home/jimmy/public_html/test.php" [error] [client 127.0.0.1] Caused by SystemException in API_Linux.cpp:444: execve() for program "/usr/bin/php-cgi" failed: No such file or directory The thing is, if I try running either of the following commands in the terminal it works without any issues: /home/jimmy/usr/bin/php-cgi /home/jimmy/public_html/test.php /usr/bin/php-cgi /home/jimmy/public_html/test.php I've been trying for hours to get this going and documentation for this kind of stuff is almost non-existent. If anyone could help me out with this, I'd be extremely grateful.

The client now wants the website to appear to be running under www.otherdomain.com/whatson/brand/ Since the website is umbraco it won't run under a subfolder. I wanted to use ISAPI rewrite to proxy requests to www.domain.com using the following rule in a .htaccess at www.otherdomain.com/whatson/brand/ RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/$1 [P,L] However, when I apply this I get an ugly 500 Internal Server Error. There's nothing in the event log.   • Windows 7 Folder Redirection (GPO)

    Hi - I have been fighting this issue for a day or two now, so I am looking for some insight. I am taking over admin duties in a domain of 800 users, and the previous admins really did not employ much of any GPO settings for the clients of the Domain. In each site, there is a location on the file server where "Home" folders were manually created. EX: \server\home\enduser Whenever a user got a machine, the admin would manually right-click on the "My Documents" folder and manually enter the path to the home folder. We are planning to start putting Windows 7 machines on the Network, and I am wanting to automate as much as I can, everything that was not done in the past. Since everyone has exising "Home" folders I have been fighting and trying to get Folder Redirection to work with a new Windows 7 machine (In a Test OU). I am getting all kinds of errors and I can't get the Windows 7 "Documents" folder to redirect to the users EXISTING home folders. As I stated earlier, all of the Home folders were (and still are) manually created on the File Server and are set with the following Security permissions - Domain Admins - Full Control euser (end user) - Modify (Everything but Full) Can someone point me in the right direction on the proper setting to put in the Folder Redirection GPO to get this to work with the Existing Home folders. I can't seem to make it work but I will keep trying. Thanks In Advance !

  • How can I get TFS 2010 to build each project to a separate directory?

    In our project, we'd like to have our TFS build put each project into its own folder under the drop folder, instead of dropping all of the files into one flat structure. To illustrate, we'd like to see something like this: DropFolder/ Foo/ foo.exe Bar/ bar.dll Baz baz.dll This is basically the same question as was asked here, but now that we're using workflow-based builds, those solutions don't seem to work. The solution using the CustomizableOutDir property looked like it would work best for us, but I can't get that property to be recognized. I customized our workflow to pass it in to MSBuild as a command line argument (/p:CustomizableOutDir=true), but it seems MSBuild just ignores it and puts the output into the OutDir given by the workflow. I looked at the build logs, and I can see that the CustomizableOutDir and OutDir properties are both getting set in the command line args to MSBuild. I still need OutDir to be passed in so that I can copy my files to TeamBuildOutDir at the end. Any idea why my CustomizableOutDir parameter isn't getting recognized, or if there's a better way to achieve this?

    Since my ISP restricts some incoming connections, I can't access remotely to my home pc. What I'm trying to do is make a reverse ssh connection from my home's router with Tomato firmware to the office computer, so I can access remotely from the office with that open connection. What I'm doing is running the following from the router: ssh -R 12345:localhost:22 oUser@office Then I leave run top open to keep the connection alive.     So, for my clients to who have sites hosted on my server, I create user accounts, with standard home folders inside /home. I setup an SSH jail for all the collective users, because I really am against using a separate FTP server. Then, I installed ACL and added acl to my /etc/fstab — all good. I cd into /home and chmod 700 ./*. At this point users cannot see into other users home directories (yay), but apache can't see them either (boo) . I ran setfacl u:www-data:rx ./*. I also tried individual directories. Now apache can see the sites again, but so can all the users. ACL changed the permissions of the home folders to 750. How do I setup ACL's so that Apache can see the sites hosted in user's home folders AND 2. Users can't see outside their home and into others' files.     I try to configure a DD-WRT as a PPTP client. The VPN Server is Windows Server 2003. This is my scenario: The Windows 2003 Server has set to give to the VPN Client the 10.0.0.81 fixed IP and to add a network route to the remote home. At the remote home I have changed the PPTP Options at DD-WRT to make the connection. The VPN connection is successfully established. ...and Windows successfully add the route to the remote home 192.168.2.X. From the remote home I can successfully access any computer from the VPN server side. The problem is when I try to access the remote home from the Server side. From Server side I only can access\ping DD-WRT ( by VPN Client IP - 10.0.0.81). What's wrong? How I need to do to be a site-to-site VPN? This is what happen when I try to tracert the remote home from local home.

    vsftpd on ubuntu after sudo apt-get install vsftpd Then did configuration as in the attached /etc/vsftpd.conf file. Anonymous ftp allows cd to the upload directly and allows put myfile.txt which gets created on the server but then the client hangs and never proceeds. The file on the server remains at 0 bytes. So I copied the CSS, IMG and JS folders from my Django installation into /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/contrib/admin/media/ and it still didn't work

  • IIS 6 ASP.NET default handler-mappings and virtual directories

    I'm having a problem with setting a default mapping in IIS 6. I want to secure *.HTML files with ASP.NET forms authentication. The problem seems to have something to do with using virtual directories to hold the html files. Here's how it's setup: sample directory tree c:/inetpub/ (nothing in here) d:/web_files/my_web_apps d:/web_files/my_web_apps/app1/ d:/web_files/my_web_apps/app2/ d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/ app1 and app2 both access the same html_files directory, so html_files is set as a virtual directory in the web apps in IIS... sample web directory tree //app1/html_files/ (points to physical directory: d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/) //app2/html_files/ (points to physical directory: d:/web_files/my_web_apps/html_files/) If I put a file called test.html in the root of //app1/ and then add the default mapping to the asp.net dll and setup my security on the root folder with deny="?", then accessing test.html works exactly as expected. If I'm not authenticated, it takes me to the login.aspx page, and if I am authenticated then it displays test.html. If I put the test.html file in the html_files directory I get a totally different behavior. Now the login.aspx page loads and I stuck some code in to check if I was still authenticated: <p>autheticated: <%=User.Identity.IsAuthenticated%></p> I figured it would say false because why else would it bother to load the login page? Nope, it says true - so it knows i'm authenticated, but it won't give me access to the test.html file. I've spent several hours on this and haven't been able to solve it. I'm going to spend some more time on google to see if I've missed something. Fingers crossed.
