  • Recommend a good db4o viewer

    - by mgroves
I'm playing around with db4o, and I have the Object Manager viewer thingy for Visual Studio. It seems okay, but not exactly on par with tools like HeidiSQL/SQL Studio/etc., not to mention that it locks the db4o file--I can't use my db4o app and Object Manager at the same time. Maybe I'm using it wrong, but regardless, I'd like to know what else is out there. What tools would you recommend for looking at and manipulating db4o files?

  • WinForms Menu Toolstrip Get Status

    - by Yeti
So I have a project where there is some automatic initialization going on through some classes that are created automatically as global variables (yeah they are static instances). At a point inside this (it has no relation with the C# GUI for the user, so it isn't derived from any C# class) I need to see if a flag is set or not. I use toolstrip menu with checked and unchecked status in order to set or unset the flag. The problem is that I have difficulties to see if the flag is checked or not from this static class. My class is inside a different project/namespace and a DLL is created what later is linked to the GUI of the application. The GUI depends from this Manager class so making the Manager class to depend from the GUI is not an option. Nevertheless, I should be able to see its state knowing its name or through some other means. I have tried the following: if(Application.OpenForms[1].Owner.Controls["useLocalImageForInitToolStripMenuItem"].Enabled) { }; Now the problem is that on the upper code snippet I get a nasty error. So how do I do this? The toolstrip menu: The error: See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. ***** Exception Text ******* System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException: Index was out of range. • Why does filter: blur(0) still cause text to blur under Webkit?

    - by johnkavanagh
I've come across a bug today that's taken far longer than I would like to admit to identify. Essentially: setting a filter: blur(0) (or the vendor-specific -webkit-filter) on an element should - I believe - mean that no form of blur is applied. However, having tested this today, it would appear that Webkit based browsers still blur the text within any element with either blur(0) or blur(0px) assigned to it. I've knocked together a quick Fiddle here: http://jsfiddle.net/f9rBE/ These are three identical dixs containing text (no custom fonts): This has absolutely nothing assigned Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Aliquam facilisis orci in quam venenatis, in tempus ipsum sagittis. Suspendisse potenti. One has no styles at all assigned, the other two have blur(0) and blur(0px): .no-blur{} .zero-px-blur{ -webkit-filter: blur(0px); -moz-filter: blur(0px); -o-filter: blur(0px); -ms-filter: blur(0px); filter: blur(0px); } .zero-blur{ -webkit-filter: blur(0); -moz-filter: blur(0); -o-filter: blur(0); -ms-filter: blur(0); filter: blur(0); } If you preview this under Chrome/Safari you'll see that the text in the second two are still blurred: A few things worth noting: This unintentional blurring occurs in Safari on iOS7 devices (both iPhones and iPads); It also occurs on Chrome and Safari under OSX; It doesn't happen under FireFox in OSX. Of course, this isn't supported at all in Firefox just yet so it's hard to tell whether the behaviour I'm seeing is intentional/expected behaviour, or whether this is a bug in Webkit? Is it possible that this is only prevalent in higher-density resolution devices (ie: retina MacBook/iPhone/iPad)? With this in mind, how do you actually overwrite an item that has blur applied to it to set it back to non-blurred?

  • Compile error with acml.h

    - by Aslan986
I'm having some problem compiling a Visual Studio 2008 project in which I use acml.h. I correctly installed amcl package on my computer, version 5.1.0-ifort64. I added the reference to the acml.h directory in Visual Studio Compiler Properties, but when i try to compile i get these errors: 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1510) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1510) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ';' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1510) : warning C4091: '': ignorato a sinistra di 'char' quando non si dichiara alcuna variabile 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1510) : error C2143: errore di sintassi: ';' mancante prima di ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1510) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1510) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1675) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1675) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ';' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1675) : warning C4091: '': ignorato a sinistra di 'char' quando non si dichiara alcuna variabile 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1675) : error C2143: errore di sintassi: ';' mancante prima di ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1675) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(1675) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3511) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3511) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ';' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3511) : warning C4091: '': ignorato a sinistra di 'char' quando non si dichiara alcuna variabile 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3511) : error C2143: errore di sintassi: ';' mancante prima di ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3511) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3511) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3676) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ')' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3676) : error C2144: errore di sintassi: 'char' deve essere preceduto da ';' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3676) : warning C4091: '': ignorato a sinistra di 'char' quando non si dichiara alcuna variabile 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3676) : error C2143: errore di sintassi: ';' mancante prima di ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3676) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ',' 1>C:\AMD\acml5.1.0\ifort64_mp\include\acml.h(3676) : error C2059: errore di sintassi: ')' I apologize for italian language; however they are all sintax errors. • What are the "software" requirements for a 3D video?

    - by Diogo Rocha
Today, looking for the technical explanations about MPEG4, I saw that it can implement the VRML rendering for a 3D video. This makes me wondering about the "software" requirements to make or to see a 3D video. I mean, assuming that I have all the "hardware" requirements(3D monitor, VGA, 3D-camera, etc), what should I need to make and see 3D videos looking over the "software" side? Must I need to make it on MPEG4 instead MPEG1 or MPEG2 because of the VRML support? May I need a specifc 3D codec to open and see 3D videos?? Until today, I believed that a 3D video was just a regular/ordinary video composed of 2 "overlapping layers". PS: This is the first time I'm researching about technical explanations/references about MPEG standards and 3D videos, any help or basic explanations will help.

  • Opt-out of copy constructor

    - by sheepsimulator
This might be a silly question, but... I've been writing a number of classes that utilize non-copyable members. These classes are never initialized via the copy constructor in my source. When I try to compile without supplying my own copy-constructor, g++ throws out many errors about how it can't build a default copy constructor, due to the non-copyable member objects. Is there a way to tell the compiler to just not give me a copy constructor?

  • Why does one loop take longer to detect a shared memory update than another loop?

    - by Joseph Garvin
I've written a 'server' program that writes to shared memory, and a client program that reads from the memory. The server has different 'channels' that it can be writing to, which are just different linked lists that it's appending items too. The client is interested in some of the linked lists, and wants to read every node that's added to those lists as it comes in, with the minimum latency possible. I have 2 approaches for the client: For each linked list, the client keeps a 'bookmark' pointer to keep its place within the linked list. It round robins the linked lists, iterating through all of them over and over (it loops forever), moving each bookmark one node forward each time if it can. Whether it can is determined by the value of a 'next' member of the node. If it's non-null, then jumping to the next node is safe (the server switches it from null to non-null atomically). This approach works OK, but if there are a lot of lists to iterate over, and only a few of them are receiving updates, the latency gets bad. The server gives each list a unique ID. Each time the server appends an item to a list, it also appends the ID number of the list to a master 'update list'. The client only keeps one bookmark, a bookmark into the update list. It endlessly checks if the bookmark's next pointer is non-null ( while(node->next_ == NULL) {} ), if so moves ahead, reads the ID given, and then processes the new node on the linked list that has that ID. This, in theory, should handle large numbers of lists much better, because the client doesn't have to iterate over all of them each time. When I benchmarked the latency of both approaches (using gettimeofday), to my surprise #2 was terrible. The first approach, for a small number of linked lists, would often be under 20us of latency. The second approach would have small spats of low latencies but often be between 4,000-7,000us! Through inserting gettimeofday's here and there, I've determined that all of the added latency in approach #2 is spent in the loop repeatedly checking if the next pointer is non-null. This is puzzling to me; it's as if the change in one process is taking longer to 'publish' to the second process with the second approach. I assume there's some sort of cache interaction going on I don't understand. What's going on?

  • What's a regular language?

    - by Javier Badia
I've read that you can't parse HTML with regular expressions because HTML is not a regular language. I tried searching Wikipedia, but I didn't understand a word of what the various related articles said. Can someone explain, in simpler terms, what's a regular (or non-regular) language, and why non-regular languages can't be parsed with regexes?

  • Is O_NONBLOCK being set a property of the file descriptor or underlying file?

    - by Daniel Trebbien
From what I have been reading on The Open Group website on fcntl, open, read, and write, I get the impression that whether O_NONBLOCK is set on a file descriptor, and hence whether non-blocking I/O is used with the descriptor, should be a property of that file descriptor rather than the underlying file. Being a property of the file descriptor means, for example, that if I duplicate a file descriptor or open another descriptor to the same file, then I can use blocking I/O with one and non-blocking I/O with the other. Experimenting with a FIFO, however, it appears that it is not possible to have a blocking I/O descriptor and non-blocking I/O descriptor to the FIFO simultaneously (so whether O_NONBLOCK is set is a property of the underlying file [the FIFO]): #include <errno.h> #include <fcntl.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <unistd.h> int main(int argc, char **argv) { int fds[2]; if (pipe(fds) == -1) { fprintf(stderr, "`pipe` failed.\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } int fd0_dup = dup(fds[0]); if (fd0_dup <= STDERR_FILENO) { fprintf(stderr, "Failed to duplicate the read end\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } if (fds[0] == fd0_dup) { fprintf(stderr, "`fds[0]` should not equal `fd0_dup`.\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } if ((fcntl(fds[0], F_GETFL) & O_NONBLOCK)) { fprintf(stderr, "`fds[0]` should not have `O_NONBLOCK` set.\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } if (fcntl(fd0_dup, F_SETFL, fcntl(fd0_dup, F_GETFL) | O_NONBLOCK) == -1) { fprintf(stderr, "Failed to set `O_NONBLOCK` on `fd0_dup`\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } if ((fcntl(fds[0], F_GETFL) & O_NONBLOCK)) { fprintf(stderr, "`fds[0]` should still have `O_NONBLOCK` unset.\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; // RETURNS HERE } char buf[1]; if (read(fd0_dup, buf, 1) != -1) { fprintf(stderr, "Expected `read` on `fd0_dup` to fail immediately\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } else if (errno != EAGAIN) { fprintf(stderr, "Expected `errno` to be `EAGAIN`\n"); return EXIT_FAILURE; } return EXIT_SUCCESS; } This leaves me thinking: is it ever possible to have a non-blocking I/O descriptor and blocking I/O descriptor to the same file and if so, does it depend on the type of file (regular file, FIFO, block special file, character special file, socket, etc.)?

  • Tips on Managing Podcast Subscriptions

    - by Ben Griswold
I listen to a silly number of technical podcasts. I listen to enough of them that it is literally impossible to keep up. I nearly gave up and started dropping feeds from my subscription list when I heard Craig Shoemaker talk about his Polymorphic Podcast fast feed. The idea is he provides the same content at a higher speed so you can listen to his complete show in 3/4th the time. I tried it out with his recent jQuery Secrets with Dave Ward interview and I was shocked with the feed quality. It was a super clear, understandable conversation which only took a fraction of the time commitment. I experimented a bit and played the normal recording at 2x speed on my iPhone and the quality was once again just fine. But now I'm saving half of the time. I'm curious as to how you might manage your podcast subscriptions. Can you offer any tips or advice on how to get the best bang for your buck when it comes to technical podcast listening?

  • Is there an Unobtrusive Captcha for web forms?

    - by KP
What is the best unobtrusive CAPTCHA for web forms? One that does not involve a UI, rather a non-UI Turing test. I have seen a simple example of a non UI CAPTCHA like the Nobot control from Microsoft. I am looking for a CAPTCHA that does not ask the user any question in any form. No riddles, no what's in this image.

  • Query an XmlDocument without getting a 'Namespace prefix is not defined' problem

    - by Dan Revell
I've got an Xml document that both defines and references some namespaces. I load it into an XmlDocument object and to the best of my knowledge I create a XmlNamespaceManager object with which to query Xpath against. Problem is I'm getting XPath exceptions that the namespace "my" is not defined. How do I get the namespace manager to see that the namespaces I am referencing are already defined. Or rather how do I get the namespace definitions from the document to the namespace manager. Furthermore tt strikes me as strange that you have to provide a namespace manager to the document which you create from the documents nametable in the first place. Even if you need to hardcode manual namespaces why can't you add them directly to the document. Why do you always have to pass this namespace manager with every single query? What can't XmlDocument just know? The Code: XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument(); xmlDoc.Load(programFiles + @"Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\HfscBookingWorkflow\template.xml"); XmlNamespaceManager ns = new XmlNamespaceManager(xmlDoc.NameTable); XmlNode referenceNode = xmlDoc.SelectSingleNode("/my:myFields/my:ReferenceNumber", ns); referenceNode.InnerXml = this.bookingData.ReferenceNumber; XmlNode titleNode = xmlDoc.SelectSingleNode("/my:myFields/my:Title", ns); titleNode.InnerXml = this.bookingData.FamilyName; ... • iphone calls both if and else at the same time?

    - by David Schiefer
Hi, I need to determine what file type a file is and then perform a certain action for it. this seems to work fine for some types, however all media types such as videos and sound files get mixed up. I determine the file type by doing this: BOOL matchedMP3 = ([[rowValue pathExtension] isEqualToString:@"mp3"]); if (matchedMP3 == YES) { NSLog(@"Matched MP3"); } I do this for various file types and just define an "else" for all the others. Here's the problem though. The iPhone calls them both. Here's what the log reveals: 2010-05-11 18:51:12.421 Test [5113:207] Matched MP3 2010-05-11 18:51:12.449 Test [5113:207] Matched ELSE I've never seen anything like this before. This is my "matchedMP3" function: BOOL matchedMP3 = ([[rowValue pathExtension] isEqualToString:@"mp3"]); if (matchedMP3 == YES) { NSLog(@"Matched MP3"); NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSFileManager *manager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; self.directoryContent = [manager directoryContentsAtPath:documentsDirectory]; NSString *errorMessage = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingString:@"/"]; NSString *urlAddress = [errorMessage stringByAppendingString:rowValue]; MPMoviePlayerController *moviePlayer = [[MPMoviePlayerController alloc] initWithContentURL:[NSURL fileURLWithPath:urlAddress]]; moviePlayer.movieControlMode = MPMovieControlModeDefault; moviePlayer.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; [moviePlayer play]; } and here's the else statement: else { NSLog(@"Matched ELSE"); [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setObject:rowValue forKey:@"rowValue"]; NSString*rowValue = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] objectForKey:@"rowValue"]; NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSFileManager *manager = [NSFileManager defaultManager]; self.directoryContent = [manager directoryContentsAtPath:documentsDirectory]; NSString *errorMessage = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingString:@"/"]; NSString *urlAddress = [errorMessage stringByAppendingString:rowValue]; webViewHeader.prompt = rowValue; [documentViewer setDelegate:self]; NSString *encodedString = [urlAddress stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; //Create a URL object. NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:encodedString]; //URL Requst Object NSURLRequest *requestObj = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url]; //Load the request in the UIWebView. [documentViewer loadRequest:requestObj]; [navigationController pushViewController:webView animated:YES]; } I can't see a reason why it wouldn't work. What happens is that both the webview and the MediaPlayer toggle their own player, so they overlap and play their sound/video a few secs apart from each other. Any help would be appreciated & thank for you taking the time to read through my code.
