• Your experience with haxe and other languages that compile to PHP?

  I would like to hear oppinions from people who have used a language that compiles to php. One such language I know is Haxe. Other ones I've read about are Kira and Pharen. How well do these languages integrate with PHP? Is it relatively easy to write a plugin for a PHP CMS in them? How mature are their implementations and tools? Would you recommend them to someone who has to use a php cms but hates php?

• Performance tracking/monitoring in games

  Let's say I have an online game with a downloadable client / browser plugin. I want to track performance of my software and automatically send summary to the server. Let it be fps, latency, load time, physics step calc. time, whatever... I also want tools to perform data analysis: per session stats, per hardware stats, avgs, totals, diagrams, etc. So that I could see what are the real world hotspots / bottlenecks. Is there any common out-of-the-box / SaS solution?

• Bay Area JUG Roundup 2010 - A Good Time for All

  The first Bay Area JUG Roundup (#roundup10) convened at Oracle HQ on Wednesday evening, in the palatial surroundings of the Oracle Conference Center. (Yes, there will be more!) A couple hundred people were there, I'd say. More came out of this meetup than a bunch of new contacts and some mild indigestion (or even a mild hangover): - We (meaning, Oracle) announced the opening of the eight annual Duke's Choice Awards. As described on the Web page, "The awards celebrate extreme innovation in the world of Java technology and are granted to the best and most innovative projects using the Java platform." Entries will be accepted through July 1, with winners announced at JavaOne 2010. - Even more exciting, we offered a sneak preview of the Java Road Trip, a cross-country, 20-stop bus tour this Summer involving one rock-star bus, one full-time blogger/videographer, a whole bunch of Java demos and speakers, and lots of beer and prizes. Stay tuned for more info about this. - Sonya Barry, Java.net community manager, announced the beta.java.net project - which will be the end result of the java.net migration to a Kenai back-end and retooled social/community layer (already in progress). Sonya also announced that Maven support for Java.net projects is imminent, with just a contract to be signed in the next couple of weeks. • No SQLCompact Edition Support IN VS 2013

  Firstly apologies if this is a poor question - I am an engineer not a programmer. I have spent time moving from Visual Basic to C#. I have started C#/SQL tutorials. I have noticed VS 2013 has stopped supporting the compact edition database normally used for standalone desktop apps. Somebody has kindly written a plugin to re-implement support. I have also noticed a belief circulating that SQLite is to replace the compact edition. Would anybody be able to advise if this was accurate - I am slightly confused as to which database is best suited for desktop app development inside VS 2013. Any comment greatly appreciated. • How to play Minecraft Classic?

  First off, I've read through this question: How to install minecraft?. I'm interested in the free web-embedded version (for demo purposes), not the paid and downloaded .jar file. I removed the open-java whatever that Ubuntu prefers to use. I installed sun-java6-jre. Then I ran sudo update-alternatives --config java to ensure I was using Sun's Java. Restarted my browsers, then tried to start the game from: http://www.minecraft.net/play.jsp It pops a prompt to make sure I really want to allow direct interaction between minecraft.net and my computer, I agree. The in browser display mumbles something about loading a library, then darkness. The page doesn't crash, ps shows the java plugin process, all seems well except the game doesn't load. I see the same behaviour on Chromium 11.0.662.0 (73963) as Firefox 4 RC1.

• 12.04 How do I disable the long press Super key from showing the shortcuts window?

  Note this is the long press and not the one for the short press as mentioned here How do I disable the Super key? The super key has been a modifier long before Unity came, and I have used it on Compiz Zoom feature. So holding super down and moving the mouse scroll would zoom in and out the screen. But now in 12.04 the shortcut list screen pops up and it is irritating. I have also tried changing the keys to control +super + mouse scroll and a similar thing happens. Is there anyway to disable or change the long press super key for this, I have searched Compiz Unity plugin, the Systems Preferences - Keyboard shortcuts settings and haven't been able to find this.

• How to attach WAR file in email from jenkins

  We have a case where a developer needs to access the last successfully built WAR file from jenkins. However, they can't access the jenkins server. I'd like to configure jenkins such that on every successful build, jenkins sends the WAR file to this user. I've installed the ext-email plugin and it seems to be working fine. Emails are being received along with the build.log. However, the WAR file isn't being received. The WAR file lives on this path in the server: /var/lib/jenkins/workspace/Ourproject/dist/our.war So I configured it under Post build actions like this: The problem is that emails are sent but the WAR file isn't being attached. Do I need to do something else?

• adobe flash not working firefox or chromium

  I'm new to ubuntu but I think I did everything right. Adobe flash says its installed and I've uploaded the latest Firefox and Chromium. When I go to youtube all I see is a black screen where the video should be and no image, Same in chromium, but at least chromium says it can't load plugin. Have tried various fixes on this web site but to no avail. Have to be doing something wrong or missing some step while quietly going crazy. Can someone please help me?

• Compiz stop working

  I'm on a laptop sony vaio, vng-nw330f with ubuntu 11.10. One day I used my computer normally, I shutdown and the other day when I turn on it again, all was different. Compiz effects is not working at all, it doesn't matter what plugin (from ccsm) i enable or disable, nothings happens, nothings changes. I tried next commands: unity --reset unity --reset-icons sudo rm -rf .config .gnome .gnome2 .gnome2_private .compiz .icons .fonts .nautilus .themes .qt .local (from my home directory) gconftool-2 --recursive-unset /apps/compiz-1 I try reinstalling compiz (I remove compiz from software center and installed it again). I have just a couple of weeks using ubuntu, I'm not sure if exist a desktop call it unity 3d, but I think that it's missing. I want the graphics interface of ubuntu 11.10 by default.

  Many places online have pointed out to configure chromium proxy via command can be achieve with the following line chromium-browser --proxy-server=[username]:[password]@[host]:[port] but I got this result on every request. Here's the output in the command line right after executing the previous command. (They do not appear to be relevant. There are no new command line output when I try to visit a page) libGL error: failed to authenticate magic 30 libGL error: failed to load driver: vboxvideo ATTENTION: default value of option force_s3tc_enable overridden by environment. What else can I try to figure this out? [Edit] Going to chrome://net-internals/#proxy and reading "Effective proxy settings" if I do chromium-browser with no flags, I get Use DIRECT connections. • Firefox 11: Adobe Flash not being recognized on certain websites

  I have Adobe Flash Plugin v11.2r202 in Firefox 11.0, on Kubuntu 11.10 64-bit. Flash works flawless on Youtube. However, certain websites claim that I need a more recent version of Flash Player. That is, of course, a wrong assumption. Because I have the latest version installed. Also, I tried Firefox add-on "flash aid". It didn't help. For example, on this website: http://htwins.net/scale2/ It says "You need a more recent version of Adobe Flash Player." Whereas in Chromium or Opera, it works. What is the problem there?

• Identity Propagation for Web Service - 11g

  I came across this post from Beimond on how to do identity propagation using OWSM.As I have mentioned in the past here, here and here - Beimond has a number of excellent posts on OWSM. However I found one part of his comment puzzling. I quote: "OWSM allows you to pass on the identity of the authenticated user to your OWSM protected web service ( thanks to OPSS ), this username can then be used by your service. This will work on one or between different WebLogic domains. Off course when you don't want to use OWSM you can always use Oracle Access Manager OAM which can do the same." The sentence in red highlights the issue i find puzzling. In fact I just discussed this particular topic recently here. So let me try and clarify on a few points: a) OAM is used for Web SSO. b) OWSM is used for securing Web Services. You cannot do identity propagation using OAM for Web Services. c) You use SAML to do identity propagation across Web Services. OAM also supports SAML - but that is the browser profile of SAML relevant in the context of Web SSO and is not related to the SAML Token Profile defined as part of the WS-Security spec.

• Error opening .wmv file

  I tried to open a .wmv file in Thunderbird. I was asked to download files in order to have it accessible. At the end of the installation An error occurred - Location not found. error message displayed with just the OK button available. Now when I press the Play button just the error message displays so I am not sure which packages need to be installed/uninstalled. I have installed Ubuntu 12.04 (32-bit) with open-jdk-7. Error was generated when installing: GStreamer ffmpeg video plugin It seemed that it took a while to have the process completing all steps of the download / install before the error message displayed.

• Is there an alternative Skype client?

  I love Ubuntu, but one thing I think is a pain is skype for it. It's outdated, buggy and generally just not as smooth as a lot of the other Ubuntu software. Is there an alternative for it? I'm not speaking about another IM like AIM or Live Messenger. Put another piece of software like the native app that comes with Ubuntu, that allows me to sign into Skype as well? Or is there perhaps a plugin for the native Ubuntu chat app that allows Skype contacts, calling etc. etc.

• Making XNA Play Nice With 3DS Max, Boundiing Spheres

  I'm using 3DS Max 2010 with the KW x-porter plugin, which outputs a .X file (just downloaded the very latest version). Note, that models I make in Milkshape don't seem to be having these problems. I've also tried to export an FBX file from 3DS Max 2010 and have been getting similar results. What are your suggestions in terms of exporting *.3DS models to a workable XNA form? What tools do you use?. • Tuning B2B Server Engine Threads in SOA Suite 11g

  Background B2B 11g has a number of parameters that can be tweaked to tune the engine for handling high volumes of messages. These parameters are also known as B2B server properties and managed via the EM console.  This note highlights one aspect of the tuning exercise and describes the different threads, that can be configured to tune the performance of a B2B server. Symptoms The most common indicator of a B2B engine in need of a tuning is reflected in the constant build-up of messages in an internal JMS queue within the B2B server. It is called B2B_EVENT_QUEUE and can be monitored via the Weblogic server console. Whenever such a behaviour is seen, it usually results in general degradation of performance. Remedy There could be many contributing factors behind a B2B server's degradation of performance. However, one of the first places to tune the server from the out-of-the-box, default configuration is to change the number of internal engine threads allocated within the B2B server. Usually the default configuration for the B2B server engine threads is not suitable for high-volume of messaging loads. So, it is necessary to increase the counts for 3 types of such threads, by specifying the appropriate B2B server properties via the EM console, namely, Inbound - b2b.inboundThreadCount Outbound - b2b.outboundThreadCount Default - b2b.defaultThreadCount The function of these threads are fairly self-explanatory. In other words, the inbound threads process the inbound messages that are coming into the B2B server from an external endpoint. Similarly, the outbound threads processes the messages that are sent out from the B2B server. The default threads are responsible for certain B2B server-specific special tasks. In case the inbound and outbound thread counts are not specified, the default thread count also dictates the total number of inbound and outbound threads. As found in any tuning exercise, the optimisation of these threads is usually reached via an iterative process. The best working combination of the thread counts are directly related to the system infrastructure, traffic load and several other environmental factors.

• A certain flash application causes a system crash

I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 and I have an nvidia (GTS 250) card with the "post-release updates" version of the driver. OFFTOPIC: Yes, it's the solutions manual. I'm self-studying so I don't have a professor to check my work. Please don't judge me :)

• Advantages of Hudson and Sonar over manual process or homegrown scripts.

  My coworker and I recently got into a debate over a proposed plan at our workplace. We've more or less finished transitioning our Java codebase into one managed and built with Maven. Now, I'd like for us to integrate with Hudson and Sonar or something similar. My reasons for this are that it'll provide a 'zero-click' build step to provide testers with new experimental builds, that it will let us deploy applications to a server more easily, that tools such as Sonar will provide us with well-needed metrics on code coverage, Javadoc, package dependencies and the like. He thinks that the overhead of getting up to speed with two new frameworks is unacceptable, and that we should simply double down on documentation and create our own scripts for deployment. Since we plan on some aggressive rewrites to pay down the technical debt previous developers incurred (gratuitous use of Java's Serializable interface as a file storage mechanism that has predictably bit us in the ass) he argues that we can document as we go, and that we'll end up changing a large swath of code in the process anyways. I contend that having accurate metrics that Sonar (or fill in your favorite similar tool) provide gives us a good place to start for any refactoring efforts, not to mention general maintenance -- after all, knowing which classes are the most poorly documented, even if it's just a starting point, is better than seat-of-the-pants guessing. Am I wrong, and trying to introduce more overhead than we really need? Some more background: an alumni of our company is working at a Navy research lab now and suggested these two tools in particular as one they've had great success with using. My coworker and I have also had our share of friendly disagreements before -- he's more of the "CLI for all, compiles Gentoo in his spare time and uses Git" and I'm more of a "Give me an intuitive GUI, plays with XNA and is fine with SVN" type, so there's definitely some element of culture clash here.

My adsense dashboard is stating I've received a few clicks; but across it still states my account earnings and balance at $0.00. When / How will I start seeing money earned to my account?
