• ERROR 1005 (HY000): Can't create table 'tmp' (errno: 13)

  Hi, I'm Running Mysql on ubuntu 9.10, the process of Mysql is running as root, I'm using root account when logging to Mysql, which I gave all privileges, I'm using my own db(not mysql), I can create a table, but when i try to create Temporary table i get this error: ERROR 1005 (HY000): Can't create table 'tmp' (errno: 13) For this query: CREATE TEMPORARY TABLE tmp (id int); I've plenty of space in my hard drive, all permissions are granted(also var/lib/mysql have mysql permissions). • How does heap compaction work quickly?

  They say that compacting garbage collectors are faster than traditional memory management because they only have to collect live objects, and by rearranging them in memory so everything's in one contiguous block, you end up with no heap fragmentation. But how can that be done quickly? It seems to me that that's equivalent to the bin-packing problem, which is NP-hard and can't be completed in a reasonable amount of time on a large dataset within the current limits of our knowledge about computation. What am I missing?

• Is there an implementation of Tom Kyte's STRAGG function supporting SQL Server?

  STRAGG function implemention returns a result as a single column value. Implementation for Oracle seems pretty generic and can be consumed for different tables (and relationships). Could similar behavior be achieved for SQL Server. A search in the web, appears to return only hard coded implementations and not a generic one. Do we have any known solution for Sql server?

  Can somebody explain briefly the differences between a "WSS Web Application" and a normal "IIS Website"? I have read that a WSS web application is a "special" IIS Website with WSS featured. I also know that the content of a web application is stored in an SQL Server Website(called the content database) whereas an IIS Website stores it on a hard disk on the server. A point-by-point difference would be appreciated.

  Is it feasible to use the yield keyword to implement a simple state machine as shown here. To me it looks like the C# compiler has done the hard work for you as it internally implements a state machine to make the yield statement work. Can you piggy-back on top of the work the compiler is already doing and get it to implement most of the state machine for you? Has anyone done this, is it technically possible?

I have a code table where each row has an upper and lower range column, and I need an entry that represents a range where the upper range is the maximum value an int can hold(sort of like a hackish infinity). • Single Regex for filtering roman numerals from the text files.

  I am stuck in between of a problem where only one pass of regular expression is allowed( some old hard code). I need the regex for roman numerals. I have tried the standard one i.e. ^(?i)M*(D?C{0,3}|C[DM])(L?X{0,3}|X[LC])(V?I{0,3}|I[VX])$, but the problem is it allows null( '') values also. Is there any way around to check is problem?

But with the upcoming version of Windows and Microsoft's flagship language, I am having a hard time understanding why Microsoft isn't pushing C# to its fullest potential to give it more exposure via their market share? In addition can be interpreted as "Is C# and the .Net framework suitable to run a modern OS like Windows 7" Btw this is not a flaming question, but curiosity. I use C# daily and really love it.
